About 10 chimes later Saliss returned, two people in tow. A man, tall and influential looking, strode into Roshtah and Xeona's room. He sat down in the chair by the far wall hands clasped tightly before him. They were the only things that displayed his stress and uncertainty, as his face was impassive as he gazed at the Benshira. Obviously, he couldn't see the ghost, and so thought that he only had one interviewer. Saliss, however, frowned at the missing Xeona, gazing around the room as if that would help her find the ghost. She scowled before leading the maid into the next room.

She kindly instructed the terrified woman to sit, and the maid did so, worried. She was stiff, with wide eyes and messy hair, and her hands were clutched into tight fists. Unlike the ambassador, her distress at the current situation was obvious, and the woman went to no means to hide it. She said nothing to her two interviewers at first, but instead stared blankly at the table, only glancing up when someone began speaking to her.

The Ravokain, however, was much more friendly to Roshtah. "Good morning... I'm Saveé Arandu. You are?" There was a polite stiffness in his voice as he leaned back into his chair, and his eyes were impassive. When he asked the question, however, a single eyebrow raised while he waited for an answer.

OOCLet's get this started! Just ask a few questions at a time... maybe one or two per person? And have fun with your interviewee!

Fear. Lorick both loved and hated fear. It was, of course, a useful emotion for eliciting information, but it was also an emotion that tended to elicit bad information. In this case, though, perhaps it was possible to direct the woman's memory in a way that might cause her to remember things the way he needed her to remember them. Loaded words that could work in his favor. But first things were first. He needed to know what he was working with.

"Greetings," Lorick began. The woman had glanced up when he spoke, and he noted the terror in her eyes. He, in return, gave the woman an even stare. Not his usual, unnerving one, just a plain stare. From his position leaning against the wall, Lorick appeared nonchalant and uncaring.

"I'm sure my associate Aider here can explain better than I, but as you know we are investigating the events preceding the unfortunate demise of the Ravokian ambassador," Lorick continued. "Obviously, any information you can provide to assist us would be most helpful, but perhaps we should start with the basics. Where were you at the time of the murder?"

It was a simple question, but still a loaded one. Lorick needed more information if he was to frame this woman. If she was a witness she could just as easily have been an accomplice, or even a culprit. But to fabricate evidence, one needed an element of truth. He just hoped the woman's answer was something he could twist to his own ends.

Aider just nodded as he pulled the empty chair out from underneath the table and took a sit. He looked up at the maid, who looked worse for wears. Her hair a mess and she looked extremely stressed out. He smiled, it may not be Loricks strong suit to talk to 'innocent' women in distress. But for Aider, its simple.
"Take your time, don't rush anything. I know you've had to deal with a lot recently." he said with a friendly smile. "Now, when you are ready, will you please awnser my friends question". He leaned back in the chair, appearing relaxed and like nothing was bothering him in this world. Truth was to be honest, nothing was. He had one person that pegged at his mind, but other then that he was happy. Happy to sleep with who he pleased and do what he please, without pissing off the monks and for that he was grateful to Uphis, he had a safe place to live and a chance to make some cash.

Hey all, just wanted to say I am sorry for any delays and failed promises. I am getting ready for a huge trip out of the country as well as taking on a lot of extra shifts at work. The creative side of my brain hasn't been active as of late.

As Saliss dropped of the suspect to Roshtah, she seemed to think that Xeona had abandoned the entire thing and left. Xeona wished that he could explain, but that would also mean that the ambassador would know he's here, too, so he kept his trap shut. Xeona stood ready to cut in if the interview went in the wrong direction, but Roshtah had to complete the talking first. Xeona also hoped, for Savée's sake, that he wasn't going to lie or play some tricks.

Interviewing!- Seasonal Quest

Postby Roshtah on September 25th, 2013, 11:37 pm

The one and only Saliss walked into the room, sat the important man down, and started to look for Xeona. Roshtah winked at Saliss in hopes that she would see and understand that he had not abandoned the scene. He was unsure how she would take the awkward gesture at her if she saw it at all.

"Good morning... I'm Saveé Arandu. You are?" Mr. Arandu said extending his hand.

"A beautiful morning Saveé Arandu, thank you for reminding me." Roshtah said with a sarcastic ring to it. "You can call me R, but enough about me. I'll start with some questions that we can both answer very easily. If you want me to answer, just state your response than say 'What about you'. I think it's pretty clear so far so let's start. What is your favorite color?" He paused as the man answered, paying close attention to his face and hands, "Mine is green, thanks for asking. How many people are in your family and what relation do they have to you?" He listened to the man's answers while intently looking at the man's hands and face.

Roshtah's reasoning behind his rather forward attitude and close observation of the man was a trick that his father told him about. A poker trick. He said that all men have a truth face, a certain way they act or say things when they are speaking truthfully. When an opponent is bluffing he would break his 'truth face'. He could twitch, change his tone of voice, or simply act differently in general. Roshtah, hopefully, put him off guard to where he would focus on only telling the truth, giving Roshtah a base. Since Roshtah didn't know to well what he was looking for since he never played too much poker himself but as their was nothing to distract him, he could concentrate.

Naturally when he started talking he completely forgot that Xeona was present since he was focused on his new character.

The maid stared at Lorick in slight horror at the blunt question, though calmed down obviously when Aider spoke. Still... she was stiff, and her words betrayed it. "I... I... I don't know EXACTLY when the murder happened... but... I guess it was when I was helping Savée Arandu... one of the Ambassadors..." She floundered helplessly, looking up at the two men as if asking to not think about the horrible things she'd seen. She fixed her long dark hair habit-like, using it almost as a relaxant to calm herself. The woman took a few deep breaths, eyes closed, before gazing back up at her interrogators, a little more determination in her eyes.

"I was helping Mr. Arandu with his dinner... he'd spilled it all over himself... gravy and everything. I helped tidy up the mess, and find him a new change of clothes..." She drifted off into silence, all the images after that flicking through her head, and her visage paling again.

Mr. Arandu himself seemed quite surprised at Roshtah's blunt and sarcastic, and a little bit offended. Sniffing slightly, he took back his hand with a feeling of insult to it. "R? Huh. I give you the grace of my name, and you only give me a letter of yours. Nykans..." He snorted, but focused blandly on the interrogator, his hands relaxing slightly at the interaction. He was getting a little carried away, forgetting the horrible sight he'd caught a glimpse of earlier.

"Favorite Color?" He demanded back at the Benshira's question. "What kind of question is that?" After a moment of glaring and silence, he gave in. "Orange, if you must know. And yours?" It was said with a forced tone, as if he really did not feel like saying this. He crossed his arms grumpily, leaning back in his seat. "Family members..." he muttered at the next question, lapsing into thought for a moment. "I have... 4. My mother, who is still alive. My father is dead. So is my brother. My sister still lives in Ravok, married to an Ebonstryfe. I'd rather not list all the non-direct relations." He glared at Roshtah accusingly, though what he was actually accusing the man of was subject to question. What the Benshira had done was successfully irritate his new guest.

Lorick considered the woman's response in his mind, turning and tumbling it around and trying to come up with a way to turn it to his advantage. Sadly she hadn't admitted to much. She was with the ambassador at the time, and apparently had assisted him with cleaning up spilled dinner. There was at present no way to confirm nor deny any of what she was saying. The best thing to do is to get her to talk more. To say more.

Lies were easier to weave when you had more information. When the target is tired or stressed. And the best way to get someone into that state was to keep them talking. Keep them talking and pounce on mistakes they make, small inconsistencies in their stories that were inevitable. For the time being, Lorick remained silent. It seemed Aider was more suited to this sort of interview; he'd only intervene if the man seemed to be getting a bit too honest for his own good.

Aider nodded sitting straight up in his chair.
"Very good. So you were with this Arandu the entire time?" he asked, his voice soft. "Do you know of anyone who may have wanted to murder the ambassador?" he added, looking her in the eye. He waited for a tick before looking back at his partner, who was noticeably quiet. Frankly he didn't seem like the type to keep his mouth shut. He re-adjusted in his seat and looked back at the maid. He figured he'd add one more question before letting her speak. "This ambassador that you where with... Is he normally clumsy?" he asked, she probably wouldn't know. But still better to ask then leave it be.

Xeona watched the conversation with a concerned look on his face. What was this kind of questioning? The only thing Roshtah had achieved was angering the ambassador. Xeona thought of appearing and helping out, but decided to do so after the next line of questioning. Roshtah probably had a secret goal with all this, but it was still heading in a direction they both didn't want it to go in.

Roshtah got what he wanted. He wanted the Ambassador to think. What he was suppose to think about is not hard to manipulate. Like when someone says "Don't think about a pink dog" you think about a pink dog. This was simply a rather unnecessarily elaborate rouse to get the ambassador to think about what Roshtah wanted him to think about. At this point Roshtah thought of a few different ways to approach this new situation. The first was to continue asking random questions until the man cracked, but that would take far longer than he could afford. Second, he could sit back quietly, stare, and be as distant as possible. This might work since the man had such a very large ego and clearly loved the attention. The last would be to start talking about the murder and accuse him, but Roshtah was not sure he his 'truth face' tactic pat down yet. A good attempt in his opinion but it was time to rethink.

Roshtah sat back, shut up, and stared. His eyes carried a non-judgmental glare and while he thought about what to do he let the man talk without interruption and without response.
