Image
Age: 21
Birthday: 77th day of Fall, 492
Birthplace: Syliras
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Height: 5'8
Weight: 160 lbs
Skin Tone: Light to medium

Appearance
Rion is a particularly rough and ragged-looking human of no more than twenty-one, though people often mistake him for as young as eighteen. His youthful features and hairless complexion are mainly responsible for this. If it weren't for his labor hardened physique - grafted by years of hauling grain and tiling soil - he'd likely be mistaken for someone as young as sixteen. He only has his father, and the laws of Syliras, to thank for that.

Along with the juvenile appearance, Rion further boasts a tangle of scraggly blonde hair, which has begun to darken with age over the years. This is complemented by a pair of deep blue eyes - seemingly taking on a light brown color from afar - hovering over a quite angular shaped face. All in all, though, Rion has kept himself considerably well for someone who lived his whole life on a farm.

Personality
Image
When a bird is kept in a cage, it yearns to fly freely among the clouds. When a dog is born inside a box, it craves the gentle breeze of the forest, if only because of its natural instincts. Neither of these analogies apply to the man named Rion Whitestone. He isn't some guy who's obsessed with birds to the point that he dreams of the day he can sprout wings and take off. He also isn't some playful little dog who only wants to go into the woods for the fun of it. More so, Rion is driven by his own curiosity.

Despite the ailment taking the lives of billions of house cats, he still allows his inquisitive mind to have a say in his everyday life. Its part of the reason he left Syliras in the first place. Not to say he can't put a lid on his own mind every now and again, as Mizahar is a dangerous place. Sometimes its just better to have some questions unanswered. Still, on occasion, Rion can go overboard trying to find information...

Another important thing to note is that, in his twenty years of living in Syliras, he has never once encountered anyone that either wasn't human, or didn't look human. Because of this, his approach to other races is the utmost casual and relaxed. He has no reason to fear them, so why would he avoid meeting someone unfamiliar to him. If it means he'll learn about new cultures, what's the problem?

Now don't make the mistake of thinking Rion is just some naïve boy who doesn't know how dangerous Mizahar is. He knows from stories that Mizahar can be a deadly adversary to the untrained adventurer. However, because the worse thing he's come across was a bear in the woods, he is unaware of the true dangers of the outside world. Yet that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Rion knows he's unprepared, that he might get hurt, that there's a high chance he'll parish in the woods, and it's because of that knowledge of danger that he journeyed into the woods in the first place. The feeling of uncertainty - that there's a high chance he will die in battle - is what makes it all worthwhile.

He loves the rush of danger, the taste of his own blood, the scars he takes home at the cost of victory. Over the years, it has grown to an obsession, though he isn't addicted to the simple prospect of violence. His real interest lies instead in the adrenaline rush that accompanies the battle. The natural response that every person projects, to Rion, is and intoxicating experience greater than the most potent alcoholic beverage can bring on.

But don't make the mistake of believing Rion is just some blood thirsty lunatic always looking for his next chance to get pulverized. In fact, he himself hides the fact that he enjoys the thrill of battle, which prevents it from rising up in his body and turning him into the next great psychotic killer. So you won't be seeing Rion licking the blood from his sword in the middle of a fight any time soon.

Moving on, it should also be noted that Rion is, despite the previous factors, often described by others as shy and even reluctant in appearance. In actuality, this isn't that far from the truth. Rion does become a little nervous when around people he is unfamiliar with, which is ironic considering where he grew up. He even has to go as far as forcing himself to talk to people when his nerves get the best of him.

Howbeit, when he does warm up to to them, people actually find him to be generally good-natured and even easy to get along with, though this is mainly because Rion doesn't like to argue. In his opinion, arguing is a boring and pointless waste of time, so why would he want to do it. He will, however, debate with someone should he be passionate enough about the topic. Otherwise, he'll just give up and decide to change the subject to relieve boredom.

Pushing ahead, it's also worth mentioning that Rion has one more major quality in his personality, which can be seen as either a strength or a flaw depending on how you look at it. Rion is quick to both forgive and forget people's past transgressions. Even if he gets angry at someone, he's usually okay after a couple hours to himself.

The way he sees it, the past is in the past so why bother dedicating revenge for something that happened a couple years back. It's very rare that Rion ever decides to hold a grudge, though it's not at all impossible. Nevertheless, as of late, Rion has no grudges of any kind to speak of.

This of course doesn't imply that Rion is just one big pushover. As we've stated before, Rion is a bit violent on the inside so he's always open to duking it out if he's pushed far enough. Fortunately, he hasn't been pushed as of yet and thus has no real fighting experience outside hunting in the woods.

The History of Rion

Image

The story of Rion began in Syliras on the eve of the 77th day of Fall, 492 AV. There, a young lad by the name of Rion Whitestone was born into a semi-privileged world of farmers. It was a pretty boring, straight-forward life of doing nothing but picking grain and earning his keep in the Mithyrn Outpost, where all the other farmers worked. He would be joined in this peaceful life by only his father, Sine Whitestone, who taught him the basics of agriculture and farming. Together, they made enough to get by, and then some, without a single incident to disturb their peace. This added to the feeling of boredom always growing inside Rion.

That was until one fateful day in the middle of winter. At the time, Rion was taking a walk through the main city with a friend of his - a squire he had befriended named Pense, who was now acting as his "personal guard." He knew about the city so Rion thought it better to let the squire guide him from place to place. It was as they were doing this that they first came across Aldreda.

Aldreda wasn't the name of some beautiful maiden - or even a female at all - but instead of a sword, handcrafted and sharpened to perfection. Rion found it when he was walking out of a flower shop. It was just sitting there at his feet, nearly tripping him up as he approached it. Picking it up, Rion admired it for only a second before he remembered the presence of his friend. A knight like Pense, even if he was a squire, would probably want to run around town looking for the swords owner so as to return it. Since he'd never owned, or even held, a sword before, Rion wasn't too eager to go around putting up lost sword signs. So he instead decided to hide it away under his cloak.

Though this ruse worked on the squire, Rion knew it wouldn't have the same effect on the well trained knights at the outpost. He knew right away that the sword would be easily spotted, so he instead decided to bury it under snow while Pense wasn't looking. He'd return for it the next day, taking his father with him rather than the honorable knight. If he was going to tell anyone about the sword, he wanted it to be someone he could trust.

Retracing his steps, he found the place where he'd buried the sword - marked by a twig sticking out of the ground - the next day. Pulling out the twig, he reached in the snow and pulled out Aldreda, still in perfect condition despite its overnight freeze. Rion did have to hold it with gloves, though, because it was so cold.

When he showed it to his father, he somehow expected him to be happy that his son had found such a beautiful sword. Instead, Sien looked on in disgust, his feelings magnified down on the sword. He's the one that called it Aldreda. It was a name he was familiar with...because he'd given it to the sword. Aldreda was supposed to have been far away from Syliras, traveling the world with its new owner. It's presence here led Sien to only one conclusion.

Without another word, Sien began his return to the Mithyrn Outpost. While he assumed that meant his father was unhappy with the sword, Rion frankly didn't care. There was something about Aldreda that he just liked enough to keep it around. Despite his brain telling him to leave the sword behind and get on with his life, he kept it with him. Not only that, but he brought it back with him as he returned to Mithyrn Outpost.

Of course he wasn't allowed admittance walking around with a broadsword for potentially taking out the other farmers. However, Rion didn't hesitate to spout his determination, stating that either Aldreda stayed or they both left. Unfortunately, the knights could actually afford one less farmer, so Rion was sent on his business.

Exiled from Mithryn Outpost, Rion decided to retire to the main gates of Syliras, where he could wield his new sword proudly. He was only there for a couple of hours before a crazy idea began to form in his head. But in that time, a thousand thoughts had been running through his mind, and they all revolved around the beautiful Aldreda. It was the craziest idea he'd ever come up with, but it would lead to the most important decision of his life...Rion had decided to take a trip into the Bronze woods.

Armed with only Aldreda and his knowledge of farming, Rion was an easy target for any approaching predator. However, he was fortunate enough to only be stopped by a coyote on this adventure. Sadly, it wasn't alone. By the time a sixth coyote had showed up, Rion was already burdened by blood loss and the inability to wield Aldreda with both hands. At the end of it all, Rion was stumbling into the city with barely concealed wounds. Though he managed to recover thanks to some herbs and bed rest, the fight with the coyotes also brings on an unforeseen effect. As Rion was left to do little more than sit and recover, a slightly disturbing idea started to creep into his mind.

Despite the fact that he was nearly mauled by dogs, not only did he hold no resentment towards the coyotes, but he even found...enjoyment out of the fight. He had actually liked meeting and even being attacked by the dogs. As he sat, still shaking from the experience, he felt a strange feeling of euphoria come over him. It was a feeling Rion was unaccustomed to, having lived a delicate and peaceful life. He wanted to experience it again.

It wasn't until a year later, though, that he actually returned to the woods. In that time, both his father and Pense had tried many times to get Rion back to the farm. But Rion's mind was set on not returning until Aldreda was allowed in.

In fact, over time, he didn't even want to return. After that first experience in the woods, Rion was hooked on hunting. Seeing as he couldn't convince him to stop, Pense decided to instead accompany Rion when he went into the woods. He still felt honor-bound to fulfill his duty as the farmer's self-proclaimed bodyguard.

In spite of Rion's reluctance to have Pense around, it turned out that he would really be what kept him from the final blow of a thousand pound grizzly bear. Though Pense didn't actually accompany him to the battle, as Rion had sneaked away to hunt, the squire did save his life when he jabbed a sword through the grizzly. If it wasn't for him, he would have died only nineteen at the hands of a wild and vicious adversary. But the strangest thing was, Rion was actually okay with that.

Nonetheless, he decided to stay away from the woods for a few months after this, since he had to recover from the bear wounds. It was only recently that his wounds had healed enough that he could journey again. Only, rather than simply looking to go for another hunt, Rion was looking for a much larger scale project: traveling the entire world of Mizahar. He wanted to see past Syliras, to the land of blue people and transforming animals. To feel the rush of dread and danger as he took on the forces of nature. To see all the beauty and majesty that Mizahar held. He wanted to see it all with his owns two eyes.

Thus, Rion decided to finally leave his hometown of Syliras behind. His last words to everyone...were a warning not to follow him.

Relationship Log

Friends
Image
Halona Mabel

Technically the first person Rion met in the wild, Halona is a Kelvic with the ability to transform into a wolf, though one that's fluffed up like a poodle. Besides being the first friend he's made outside of Syliras, Halona was also the first Kelvic that Rion met in his entire life. Though Rion doesn't know her that well, based off of what he's seen, he views Halona as an...interesting person who could potentially make a life-long friend.

Image
Kizora DuLonite

Though he met the Kelvic at roughly the same time as Halona, Rion's relationship with Kizora borders more on the line of association than real friendship. However, this is simply because he hasn't has as much time to get to know her. Still, he does want to be friends with her.

Rivals
Image
Medhozic

Though his true name is Medhozic, Rion has given this Ethaefal the name Gray, since he told him upon their first encounter to call him whatever he wanted. In terms of their actual relationship...that's a difficult subject. Rion doesn't know Gray that well, but in the short time they've met, it was made obvious how different the two men were. Gray is a hunter. Rion is a vegetarian. Gray is a tactician. Rion follows his instincts. Gray is cold and distant. Rion is easy going and open.

However, what they do have in common is the fact that they both love the woods for one reason or another. While Rion goes for the freedom, Gray is only interested in cutting up beasts for money. However, he does seem to have just as much fun as Gray in the heat of battle. Of course, all Gray has to do is shoot an arrow while Rion has to go on a slashing spree.
