[OOC] Ivory Heart

Welcome to the OOC chatter thread!

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

That is another issue I am going to have to address. Only Sahova should have golems sophisticated enough enough to perform those kinds of tasks so there will have to be a new system put in place to deal with that kind of thing.

Edward ! :((

And it's so hard to get him to the Catholicon too, with all the stairs and so on ;)

I would like to keep the dear pumps, but it would be nice if Lucis could take the water from a lake on top one of the peaks instead. If it's possible to have a lake up there. Maybe if the reimancers created a lake ... I have a really hard time figuring out how to power the transport of water all the way up with nothing else than primitive wooden waterwheels and diffuse fantasy air compression "devices". Hadn't even thought of sewers too. This will send me to join Ed at the hospital.

The transportation system and other machinery is easy to deal with. Perhaps the devices in the crafting premises will soon not be animated anymore. I don't know how important the animation is though. Perhaps the devices are created with gadgeteering only, in the future lore ? Or else I guess there will be more human workers.

When it comes to Ornea spotting a certain special and very humanoid looking suspected automaton visiting Lucis : I have no problem to change her reasons for this to something else and edit my posts in our thread at Lucis a little bit, Sal. It's no problem.

Same for the thread at Maeki Cho's (for Sal and Alses). I can just call the location "a house in Lhavit" as we are only using the kitchen and not doing animation. We can disuss in PM a bit.

Are the pumps really that complicated, Animation-wise? When I envisaged them, I saw them as simply mindlessly pulling water up from the Amaranthine and into cisterns etc. The amount of water raised could be controlled by turning the pumps on or off, as necessary; the Animation was the motive force more than anything else :P .

EDIT: And beaten to it by Ornea! I'd quite like to keep Animation in the city, for the aforementioned reasons.

Ooh, also, you've talked a bit about what Lhavit isn't (shiny eth city of magic), so I was wondering what your overall vision for the place was, Mirage :) .

Right now I am going to move ahead with the thought that somehow the water works and pump systems are not controlled by animation, as I am trying to take the magic completely out of the city except under special circumstances. I will look at what is there and see if I cannot devise another way for it all to work, and if I can't I will be talking with Gossamer and a few others on some possible ideas. The idea though is to NOT have this city run on magic as that was never really supposed to be what this city was about.

As for what I am imaging for the city, to be honest I am still forming that picture. From its very beginning Lhavit has been modeled into the 'perfect' city and everything that came after that has just added more and more levels to create a city that is pretty much a Utopia that should not be able to exist in Mizahar at all. While I do imagine in the end Lhavit will be better off than many cities, especially in Kalea, I want to create an environment that is much more realistic. Even if the city was founded by a fallen Goddess and Eth's it should not be quite so modern and well off, for lack of a better term right now.

So the end goal is not 100% in sight yet, however I do know I want to discontinue Lhavit's dependence upon magic to survive. I want to create a more balanced system of classes than what we have in place now. I understand its cool to say we can sit down and have tea with anyone despite class and wealth, but in reality there will be at least some divide which I want to emphasize. It may not be as obvious as in say Wind Reach, but it still needs to be there. Finally I want to get rid of the elements of Lhavit that borrow themes from OTHER cities, such as the vastness of the library, the quality of silk that can be produced, and the level of magical acceptance. Skyglass and its construction needs to be brought more attention, and it should be obvious how magic works in the city and what its purpose is.

That is what I have so far, and the more I dig the more the picture is beginning to come together. I don't want to diminish Lhavit, I want to bring out its real potential as an RP city. It will be a difficult and tricky process, but well worth it in the end.

Regarding getting water up to the peaks, you could always redefine just how big those peaks are. Maybe a donkey pulled rotary and pully system for bringing up buckets, or some kind of vertical water wheel thingy.

Heck, you could have large water towers and some kind of aqueduct system to catch, store and distribute water on the peaks in the first place, rather than hoisting it up from ground level. Could even offer some potential story lines for players. Imagine a particularly hot summer where the peak water towers run dry and people are forced to gather water from below, with possible dangers laying in wait.

Finally, Mirage, perhaps it might be an idea to set up a change log thread sticky, where you can document and the players can keep track of changes as you implement them. The change log could be in the first post, so they don't get lost among other posts assuming we would be discussing things there.

Are there any updates on Remarkable Things? I read that Gossamer intended to revamp the reward system, but I haven't been able to find anything else on the subject.

I have a few pictures from real life I thought I'd share, just as an input.
Views of Popa Taungkalat Monastery in Myanmar (Burma) and Mount Popa (linked from google pics).

These pictures are awesome! I think we could use a few of these haha. Ill start the thread in the development forum soon and then we can start adding pictures and stuff for later ^.^

Also I may very well be removing the perk point system from Lhavit entirely, either that or talk to Goss about a game wide one. That will be a project for later however as I want to focus on getting the lore up to date before I look at all the other development stuff :)
