Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Lyn'nice jumped slightly at Lillian's sudden proclamation, her startled expression melting into a smile. This place, The Sanctuary what a great place to grow up in. Space to run, animals aplenty, and caring people were everywhere of all races. She was almost envious that Lillian would get to grow up here. Not that there was anything with her own childhood in Mura...But... It seemed so free here.
Following Caelum down the rows of plants she thought back to how small they had been when everyone had planted them. They were all growing well. Settling down by the Red Root she gave a nod in responds to the wave Caelum had given her and began delicately picking off dead leaves and buds. She listened to her newly dubbed teacher. "Breakbone Fever? Yeah, I've heard of it. Never seen a case up close though." She pulled a bloom close to her face. "Mmm, it's very nice. If the flowers don't cure anything, could they be used in an herbal soap or maybe some other herbal cosmetics? They'd smell wonderful!" She gave the flowers another smell. "Feel free to point out any other sweet smelling blooms I could experiment with... Lotions and soaps sound like something I could dabble in."
Lyn'nice smiled back at Caelum. he had a nice smile she noted. "So you'll work the insides of people and I'll work with the external healing." She laughed, "In time we'll be quite the team, or at least I hope we will." She sat and watched the race between dog and girl finally deciding to cheer her on." |

“The boneset herb was named for the fever it treats.” Caelum bobbed his head in a nod, thoughtful eyes moving along the rows of plants even as he unthinkingly stuck his fingers in the soil of the adjacent fern-leafed flower. “There are a number of medicinal herbs that are named like that, actually. They’ll have colloquial names that seem completely extraordinary to, say, a Zeltivan scholar who has never actually been to Lhavit to study the iridescent gloaming flowers.”
Truth was, neither had Caelum ever been to Lhavit. In his younger years, he had avoided it as staunchly as he avoided Cyphrus. A forsaken ethaefal had no desire to seek the company of his former brethren, after all; but everything was different now and more and more the physician found himself thinking of making a journey there for more than one reason. It wasn’t time, however. There was a great deal that required his presence in Riverfall before he could think of going somewhere so far away that it would keep him out of touch for so long.
That was a strange realization that he had rooted.
“I think this hibiscus needs moving,” he said abruptly, frowning at the wilted plant. “Can you help me find a better location for it? I don’t think it’s getting enough sunlight in this portion of the garden.” It was bushy and lush, or it would be lush under better conditions. He shifted and tugged up the sleeves of his tunic to begin working his fingers gently into the surrounding soil, intending to loosen the dirt around the root ball.
As he worked, he continued in his teaching, going over medicinal properties of the plant. “Hibiscus is a diuretic and is a flavorful substitution for the more common ones when on hand to treat things such as fluid retention. It also helps stomach inflammation and improves circulation to the extremities. It’s great for treating loss of appetite and irritation and swelling caused by upper respiratory problems.”
He cast her a distracted smile. “It also smells good. Tastes great. So perfect for use, maybe, in one of your lip balms or the like. I use it in a lot of my tea infusions.” |

"A better place.. Let me see it." By see she meant using her sight to see what the plant and dirt had to say. She touched the dirt and roots, listening to what it had to say. "For now... more to the west? Yes, west. But as for a long term plan in my opinion, you should pot it so when winter hits everything will be fine." She smiled.
Lyn'nice listened to Caelum's talk of tea and such and found herself bursting in with her own opinions and likes, "I like tea with lots of cloves. It gives you a warm feeling like a warm blanket on a cold day. I once had a tea made from the petals of a cherry blossom tree." She smiled. "I've never tasted anything quite like it." It was only now she noticed her rambling and casual talk. Caelum as Lyn'nice saw him was not casual, not someone you just spoke to without reason.
Maybe it was what he was that gave this impression. A man hurled from the sky to walk among mortals in his ethereal form. Lyn'nice rarely saw him at night, like he hid what he once looked like.
She decided to stay silent to see what he did or how he responded. |

"West, is it?" Caelum cast a glance to the western quarter of the garden. It was rife with a blossoming collection of honeysuckle that sprawled over the short rail lines he had set up and swift growing coleus. He eyeballed the array and then blinked when his dirty smeared daughter bounced her way into his line of sight.
"What's west?" The tiny konti wanted to know, fist full of honeysuckle tubers. They spangled out of fingers and bobbed from the corner of her mouth as she sucked at the sweet blossom.
"It's that way, where Syna sets and the honeysuckle you're stuffing your face with lives." He wrinkled his nose playfully at Lillian. "Run grab me one of the smaller shovels over there. I want the one with the worn out handle, not the new one. It gave Larik callouses." This last was offered conversationally to Lyn'nice while the toddler dashed off to play fetch and carry. One could imagine that Larik with callouses was a fierce, hopping thing. Caelum had been forced to try and swallow his snickers before he could get his hands on the bird man and heal him.
Caelum carefully worked the small hibiscus plant out of the ground and cradled the rootball in his hands, dirt crumbling between his fingers to the ground. He tilted his head in invitation and ambled his way around toward the honeysuckle, horns catching the light in shivering sparks.
"I enjoy cloves in tea too," he confided. "Did you know that clove oil is great for treating sinus infections as well as foot rot'? And that cherry blossom tea you like so much is a great anti-inflammatory. Use some of the blossoms in a light poultice for minor burns."
As they neared the honeysuckle patch, Caelum offered the hibiscus plant to Lyn'nice for sake keeping and snatched the shovel from Lillian in a playfully quick gesture that set the toddler to giggling. He dropped down to work the shovel blade into the soil to make a plot for their transplant. |

Lyn'nice made a face at Larik getting callouses. She hadn't been around him very much, she had to admit. But from what little she had seen she could assume how Caelum's healing of him had been.
"I had no idea either of those could do anything like that, and here I just thought they were tasty!" Smiling she gave a small giggle, something she hadn't intended on doing and became horribly embarrassed making sure to watch every word that she spouted.
She took the plant with great care from Caelum, who began to dig a hole for the transplant. Lyn'nice silently watched him only to have her attention stolen by the little dirt covered Konti every so often. With an amused smiled she looked at the little girl, "My dear, do you EVER need a bath! But I suppose I do as well." She laughed to the girl. "We need to get that dirt out of your hair or your scalp will be all itchy..." Lyn'nice warned but purposely didn't mention she knew this from experience.
Once the hole was ready she handed off the plant to Caelum to place, helping pat down the soil around it. A pair of small hands found their way in helping too. Standing back for a better view, the plant looked happy as did the little girl running about the plant. |
