Whenever Matthew spoke, the Myrian felt obliged to listen. Where she had been born and raised, the voice of a woman almost always more valuable than that of a man's. The jungle itself seemed to mirror the matriarchal order that existed within the two societies that existed there. The females ran respective cities and families, they led troops into battle, and thus reigned the dominate gender. Across the Suvan was a very different world. The roles were flipped, and though Kaie had always held fiercely to what little beliefs she carried with her in the barbarian lands, something about the harlot exempted him from such discrimination.

From the moment she had met him she knew he wasn't like the others. He appeared...disconnected in a way. It was in his speech, and the queer look he gave her when something she said piqued his interest. He was not fiercely passionate and emotionally driven. He did not partake in senseless acts of suicidal heroism or self-righteous pride. Matthew was pragmatic and logical. Balanced, was perhaps another good description. As enigmatic was he was, it was the presence of the aforementioned traits that had proven him to be good council. She might even daresay she trusted the barbarian man, and he would be the very first.

"I guess you have a few good points," Kaie allowed unwillingly, inclining her head to acknowledge his reasoning. The entire populace in Syliras was defended fiercely by the knighthood, but here in Sunberth? That was quite another story. Surely it was the whore that suffered most here out of all the common people, except the slaves. And then there was that bit about her behavior. On that count he certainly had her. Though the Myrian had become well acquainted with Common and frequent gestures like the handshake, there were plenty of social norms lost upon her. His final statement and "reminder" sealed her fate.

She should have seen it coming. Oh, of course she felt the gush of his ambiance and noted the smolder within his icy eyes. The potency of his entire being had overwhelmed her the moment he had chosen his next move. The Myrian was frozen solid like a deer within sight of the archer. Before she could so much as react, his lips were upon hers and his hand upon the small of her back. Soaked brown hair was tugged, forcing her body into a sensual, feminine arch that gave him all he had set out to achieve. She could feel the warmth of his breath between the collision of their lips, the way his tongue teased toward her own.

And she was kissing him back. She followed his rhythm. The woman pressed her bare body against his. Her left hand moved to the side of his neck, the thumb resting upon his jawline. The right hand had found its way to palm his pectoral. She didn't want to want him, but it didn't seem like she was given much choice in the matter. He was the forbidden fruit she could have if she just dared to reach. He had been right that day, the one she realized he had been reminding her of. There was a piece of her that would always belong to him. A piece so sweet and tantalizing it couldn't be so easily replaced. It would never be forgotten no matter how far from these foreign dirts she fled. The kiss only once more verified that truth. And just like that, Matthew had defeated her and they both knew it.

"Yeah, I think I'm willing to reconsider," Kaie breathed once he had retreated from her. There was a blaze in her wide eyes that threatened to burn him alive in a wildfire of lust. A coy grin tugged at her lips. "When do I start?"

[Ruby's Scarlet Sanctum] A Better Place to Crash

"Of course I do." His response would sound almost sassy if not for that neutral tone he somehow always managed to use. In truth, he really wasn't trying to be rude. He was simply quite aware that he did have a few good points. He wasn't sure why she sounded so reluctant, though. Was he not good company, or was there another reason? A Myrian sort of thing, maybe? He sometimes felt that he understood Kaie better than he understood most other women, but then she was always happy to do something that proved him wrong. The Myrians were an interesting sort and he actually found himself interested in the idea of meeting more. Perhaps he could one day visit the jungle her and Razkar had spoken of so fondly. One day, a day when he wasn't aware of how quickly that he would be scalped and eaten. If the stories about her people were true, anyways.

He appreciated her body and her kiss on a multitude of levels. There were few women who he thought would make a good harlot, his standards being higher than most. Kaie was one of those women. The natural arch of her body pressed her breasts flat against the expanse of his chest, a pressure that seemed to mold into him naturally, bodies fitting like two pieces of the same puzzle. It was a different sort of closeness, just a breath closer than most other people would be when they pressed against him, though it was something the skilled harlot was extremely aware of. Perhaps it was just the way her body was, toned and trained from countless acts of violence over the expanse of her lifetime. He encouraged it, hand possessive on the small of her back, fingertips curling into a bit of a claw to drag fingernails across he skin and briefly mix pain with her pleasure. Their tongues clashed in a steady flicker of slow and patient motion, reminding Matthew of the time they had trained back in Syliras. In a way, she was something a challenge. He could see how this was a tease for her, taunting her with a forbidden fruit that she could bite into if she simply offered the coin. But that would go against her pride, wouldn't it. Something he did not understand or have, but something that he felt was a very important piece of all the little things that made up his Myrian companion.

They were apart then, Matthew taking a small step back to put distance between them. He opened his mouth to respond but then paused yet again, blue eyes flickering as he took note of the look in her eyes. In a moment that would perhaps please Kaie, Matthew took another calculated step backwards, finding that he didn't actually trust Kaie when she had that rather primal fire flickering in her amber stare. Perhaps that was the meaning to the idea of 'playing with fire'.

He tilted his head, considering, watching. "We can talk to Ruby, I am fairly sure you would be able to start today if you so pleased. Is there anything you need to do first? Do you need a tour of the town, do you have any questions? I will help with what I can."

The Harlot realized that he felt something like a piece of prey when he was under her stare. He wasn't sure how he felt about that. By the way her lips were twitching, she seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.

Additional Comments

I loved this thread. Matthew's way of thinking always makes me laugh. I love the way these two interact with each other but it's interesting to see that Matthew comes out the dominance one. The power of sex appeal wins out!
