Pulren's day had started with but a simple notion to uphold a promise made to his Sergeant in the time he'd remained outside of Zeltiva, the chance of watching over Ricky's little one being the first that would test how well the Guardsmen could handle the joys and pains of babysitting. Only for a day did he have to do this unless of course Pulren found himself wanting to spend more time with the child, in turn giving Godfather McCenry a break from constant care taking in the role of a family figure he played. Pulren had been given the essentials he would need to watch Martin along with the bag used to carry them around, a useful carrying item left behind by the mother Telion before they departed on the ever daunting trip to the city of Syliras. Inside that bag was a spare diaper should Martin come to need a change, which would happen more often that Pulren might anticipate, along with a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread wrapped to serve as his food. There were other things too Pulren might need but nothing of worth to note as of now, as they were headed towards the place of study the young Guardsmen sought to find.

The instruction Pulren was given was pretty simple, when Martin grew hungry he needed only a piece of milk soaked bread. When given enough of that he wouldn't eat anymore and then Pulren could assume he was done, as for Martin's behaviors that tended to vary. More often than not Martin would have a fit or two that led into cries for his parents, namely due to the fact he missed the loving mother and father that had still yet to show up to return him back home. But he knew little of what had been going on, as he was just a small child that only understood the fact his parents hadn't shown in days. As Pulren walked with Martin in his arms, wrapped in his blanket, and with the bag slung over his shoulder, he looked to the grand building that stood as the library upon the University grounds. All while he'd been walking here the child had curiously watched the transitions of his environment, but especially paid more attention to Pulren himself along the way.

He was a new face really, someone he'd seen a few times, but never really connected to. That would likely change this season, depending on the amount of times Pulren decided to watch the child. Nevertheless Martin was a curious child that did his best to grasp at Pulren's sleeves, if not attempt to grapple the guard's chin as he would often reach up to the man's lips.

oocThat's my starting post for you. :) I'll let you pick it up from here and carry it along where you wish to go. Enjoy the babysitting!

Pulren respected mothers more and more as he made his way toward the library. Carrying his own supplies for studying as well as a tiny human was difficult and he only had to do it for the day. He was happy that he could help the Mazes and also give Portraits a break, but he wondered as they walked if he would be able to do a good job. He was responsible for another person's life, which wasn't new, but every responsibility down to eating certainly was.

Looking down at the kid, Pulren grinned. It brought a smile from the child, which only made Pulren's grow as well. "You're a good looking kid, Martin. Are you sure you are the Sarge's?" Pulren couldn't help but laugh out loud, ribbing his friend and squad leader. Martin couldn't understand him anyway, so no harm done. "Nah, he's a good man and I'm sure you will be loved and cared for your whole life, buddy." Still smiling, Pulren felt a small pang of petty jealousy, but the sounds Martin made wiped those clean.

Pulren stopped short of the entrance and looked at Martin. He wanted to try to convey something to the kid without being harsh. "Okay, buddy. When we go inside, we need to be quiet, okay?" Looking at the child, he knew that Martin had no conception of what he meant, so he pointed into the library and then put his finger to his lips and went, 'Shh'. he quickly followed it with a smile so as not to upset the kid.

Shrugging and praying to Laviku, Pulren entered the hallowed chambers of knowledge with his new little study partner. All he could do was hope for the best.

With Pulren's direct way of showing attention towards the baby Martin would at best present the man with a smile, his eyes locked curiously on Pulren's face as he pressed onward towards the solitary place of silence that he sought out. When the time came for him to try and make a point that Martin was to be quiet, the baby at first watched the finger as it went up before the mouth. With Pulren's notion to shush the child's mouth opened a little as he thought to reach for the finger, only to try and in return mirror Pulren and look at his own finger as he started to suck on it. Sure the attempts to try and see if Martin would understand were both silly and worth a shot, but honestly did anybody really expect a baby as young as Martin to fully understand the concept of being quiet?

No! But who gives a damn, babies for one were too cute. Thus with his entrance into the library, he would catch the eye of some as they watched him pass on. The fact he had a little one with him was definitely bound to draw attention, but such a reaction was simply natural and hardly fretting over compared to other things. The child was indeed quiet at first but that was due to seeing the new place he'd discovered for the first time, as the smell of old dusty tomes would no doubt great the two as they were well into the building and on their way towards wherever Pulren chose to study. Martin's eyes were full of wonder and curiosity, a few occasional turns in the way Pulren held him suggested, that he was definitely a bundle of excitement that wanted to explore. He was around that age of course, where he could crawl and get into things he shouldn't. Pulren would have to take care if he were to engage in his studies, Martin was simply far too rambunctious to be kept in one place for far too long.

oocIt's a little short I know but at best it'll allow you to get started on Pul's study time, from there you can expect a few babysitting challenges to arise depending on how you situate both Pulren and Martin. ;)
