Drykas Looking For Blood Relations

Postby Colt on August 18th, 2014, 7:38 pm

Hey there, all! As it says on the tin, I’m looking for some blood relatives for Shahar. His story so far is this: Shahar was born into the Windheel pavilion of the Emerald clan by the name of Khasr, but due to amnesia that appeared two years ago he does not remember them. However, while he was separated from them by the Djed storm of 512, I’ve had it in my head for awhile that the Windheel pavilion did, in fact, make it to shelter and are just fine, plying their trade and as healthy as ever. I’m looking for someone to be a member of that pavilion, perhaps a sibling or cousin who would be interested in flashbacks and perhaps, eventually, a reunion.

As I’ve written it so far, the Windheel pavilion, while part of the Emerald clan, doesn’t hunt as much as it processes the fruit of hunts. Leatherworking, bonecarving, the channelling of different goods into the hands that would pay the most for them. Khasr’s uncle, as well as Khasr himself, were exceptions to this rule and helped the pavilion out by bringing back kills that they didn’t have to pay for. This served a dual purpose; while Khasr and his uncle were both fine enough hunters, both of them were socially uneasy with the rest of the pavilion. His uncle was the brother of the third wife who moved into the pavilion for reasons I haven’t come up with yet. Khasr’s mother died in childbirth, marking him as a bad luck child, and to top it off his mother had previously made enemies with the first wife and that dislike passed to Khasr. This translated to both Khasr and his uncle spending a great deal of time away from the pavilion, although they still interacted and ate meals with the family.

Khasr didn’t really like most of the adults in his family, and he especially hated his eldest half-brother, but other children would probably have received lukewarm attention instead of outright hostility. In terms of flashpacks, Khasr could exchange hunting knowledge in exchange for other things like games or candy or even skinning/tanning/leatherworking knowledge. A family member would have to be of the Emerald clan, and would probably have some skill related to leatherworking/boneworking/whatever, although that’s certainly flexible. I do already have an approved NPC for the Ankhal, as well as some references in flashbacks to the first and second wife. If you’re looking to make a Drykas and this sounds interested to you, PM me and we can exchange details.

Drykas Looking For Blood Relations

Postby Naiya on October 28th, 2014, 9:13 pm

I saw this thread and wanted to add some interesting plot information to the mix.

Shahar is currently caught up in a romance with Rue, one that by all appearances is headed towards marriage. Soon there will be talk of dowry and celebrations to be shared with family.

There are all sorts of possibilities to be had when you add a second family to the mix, in this context the Whindheel Pavilion. So if you happened to be on the fence about such an idea, maybe the potential for conflicts or celebrations will tip you over the edge.

Drykas Looking For Blood Relations

Postby Lian Windrunner on November 1st, 2014, 6:20 pm

I'm not certain if this is something that would work or not since Lian was born into the Sapphire Clan. His immediate family (parents and sibs) are all dead. But it's possible that he had an aunt or older cousin that married into the Windheel Pavilion. If that's the case, he would have spent some time visiting his relative and their kids as a child. So he could be a relative through marriage and have met Khasr while visiting the pavilion.

That might even give them a connection in the present as well as the past if you'd be interested in that. Lian might vaguely recognize Shahar if he saw him, and eventually realize that he'd been a cousin through marriage.

Drykas Looking For Blood Relations

Well, Merivaika left her family when she was quite young, so doesn't really remember them. But Ive left them conpletely vague, so it won't be a problem.

Drykas Looking For Blood Relations

Postby Khida on December 28th, 2014, 7:26 pm

I just wanted to drop in and bump this request, because it's still open!

Here are my thoughts on what else a Windheel PC might get involved in:

In addition to exploring history with Shahar/Khasr, there's a lot of interactions which can be developed in the present. Not only is there his relationship with Rue, but Shahar already has a first wife -- that would be my PC -- and is looking after the former captive Hope. In essence, he has the nucleus of a potential Pavilion of his own. This nucleus could be something the Windheels scorn (his women include a Kelvic and a foreigner, after all!), envy, admire, or even seek to absorb back into their own ranks, depending on how the pox, the Zith attack, and other events in recent years have affected their well-being.

The two groups have potential for a business relationship: the primary profession of the Dawnwhispers is hunting, after all, and the Windheels could make good use of their kills. If they were so inclined. We could also explore professional animosity, if they remained disposed against their returned cursed child and perhaps everyone associated with him.

There are prospects for a mentorship sort of relationship as well. Speaking for myself, Khida could very much use a model of a proper Drykas Pavilion. There's a great deal of the culture she hasn't been able to explore as of yet, and I would love to have someone to work on those aspects with. Whether or not the Windheels decide they approve of Shahar. There are sea changes plotted for Khida's future, and I will cheerfully tie the Windheels into as many of them as apply, if there's a PC to play with. :)

Not to mention, however the relationship between the Windheels and the Dawnwhispers starts, there are endless ways to permute it over time. We can build a reconciliation arc and reaffirm kinship, or perhaps drive wedges between them to become rivals, or anything on the spectrum between.

Long story short: Creating a Windheel would be an instant hook into a number of potential plotlines. If you're interested in the Drykas, and any of these ideas appeal to you, please reply or send a PM Shahar's way!
