75th of Summer, 514

Suresslynn sighed as she looked at the shop she had just gotten employed at, then shook herself. "Well, time to go to work..." she said as she pushed open the door and smiled at Mistress Sahfri. "Good morning, ma'am." she said cheerfully, her mood instantly improved by the sight of the four armed woman, a welcome reminder of her desert home. The Dhani looked around the shop, taking a deep breath of all the chemicals in the room and smiling.

Sahfri looked up at the Dhani and returned the smile, waving the one arm that wasn't making an antidote. "Good morning, Suresslynn. We need to make an antidote for copperhead venom, we've had a few people get bitten by them lately." she said, pointing at the place where the ingredients had been set out for her. The Dhani nodded and walked over to the place set aside for her and started working on the copperhead venom antidote.

After a moment, she set aside her first bottle of antidote, then thought about something. "Copperheads...I don't think I'm familiar with that kind of snake. One of the natives, I assume, but do they frequently bite humans or are they like most Ekytolian breeds that couldn't give two petch's about humans as long as they don't step on them?" Suresslynn smiled as she set aside her second bottle. It had been a long time since she had mixed antidotes, and she'd forgotten how much fun it was.

Sahfri took a moment before answering her employees question. "Yes, it's a native, and you're right, it's as relaxed as most Ekytolian breeds, but lately there's just been more bites than usual. Perhaps they nested closer to the traveled areas than they usually do." she said as she set aside another bottle. "And, Suresslynn, I would prefer if you would refrain from crude language while in my shop." she said, turning and giving the Dhani a reproachful look.

"Sorry, ma'am." Suresslynn said, having the good grace to look ashamed as she turned back to her antidote mixing.

(The Stormhold Salves) Suresslynn's first day on the job

Postby Suresslynn on August 29th, 2014, 12:23 am

Suresslynn and Sahfri had been working for a little over a bell before the first customer of the day walked into the shop. Suresslynn looked up at the human and let Sahfri deal with the customer as she worked on her antidote mixing. She was still working on copperhead antidotes, and she felt she had the mix down as well as she could get it. Or at least that was what she thought before she noticed the mix she was currently working on turning an unnatural pinkish color. "Um...where do you keep your "bad mixture" disposal, ma'am?" she asked the Eypharian woman.

Sahfri looked up at Suresslynn and sighed before giving the Dhani a forgiving smile. "In the back, Suresslynn." she said. The green eyed woman nodded and smiled ruefully before she picked up the failed antidote with a pair of tongs and carried it to a small sectioned off area where all bad mixes were disposed of in a steel container. After opening the lid and depositing the bad mix, vial and all, in then bin and closing it again, the Dhani went back to her mixing station and sat down, looking over the ingredients to see what she had done wrong. "Too much of this." she said, holding up a small vial of an herb particular to the area. Seeing as how Suresslynn wasn't great at reading common, and Sahfri didn't really have the time to teach her better, the two women had sort of worked out a system that let the Dhani find things based on how they looked.

"Thank you, ma'am." she said, blushing slightly as she picked up another empty vial and started mixing again as Sahfri went and started cataloging the herbs and other products in the shop while the Dhani worked on the antidotes.

(The Stormhold Salves) Suresslynn's first day on the job

Postby Suresslynn on August 29th, 2014, 3:09 am

A mere three chimes after the last customer, another person came into the shop and as Sahfri was working on the herbs, Suresslynn set aside her work with antidotes and faced the man. "Hello and welcome to The Stormhold Salves. What can I help you find, sir?" she said, looking up at the man who had entered the shop.

"Yes...I've heard that there are a number of people being bitten by a snake in the region. A...copperhead, I believe. As I am traveling to the Mithryn Outpost, I might encounter the creature, and I wished to purchase some antidote." he said, his voice slightly snobbish, making the Dhani was a higher ranked member of the local society.

Smiling at the man, she picked up a bottle of the freshly bottled antidote and handed it to the man. "That's two doses, made just this morning sir. They cost one hundred gold mizas." she said, smiling at the man, who took the vial and handed over the mizas.

"Beastly creatures, snakes. I can't believe such a vile creature is allowed to roam free, biting as they will." the man said as he pocketed the bottle of antidote, his uneducated opinion about her animal cousins causing Suresslynn's face to freeze for a moment.

Looking at the man, Suresslynn gave him a cold smile as filled with venom as her fangs. "Will that be all, sir?" she said, her tone laced with such faked pleasantness that the man cringed and shook his head before walking out of the shop.

Suresslynn sighed as she turned back to her mixes, then looked up as she felt a hand on her shoulder. "I can understand your feelings, Suresslynn, and agree with your sentiment, but it would do better for you if you control yourself better. The knighthood will already look upon you with suspicion for your trade. It would not be wise for you to earn a reputation for antagonizing the locals." she said, smiling gently as she returned to her own mixing.

Suresslynn sighed slightly, then nodded. "You're right, of course. It gets under my scales...or skin, I guess. Either way, it gets right down to the nerves when people mistreat snakes in such a way." she said with a frustrated growl as she set aside another vial of antidote.

(The Stormhold Salves) Suresslynn's first day on the job

Postby Suresslynn on August 29th, 2014, 2:18 pm

Several bells passed with the shop doing a quiet, but steady stream of business. Owing to her somewhat off-putting disposition, Suresslynn was usually not the one who dealt with customers, instead leaving that to Sahfri while she mixed antidotes and occasionally fetched some kind of herb or other item for the Eypharian woman while she dealt with the customers. It wasn't exactly a friendly atmosphere, as the two Ekytolian women didn't know each particularly well, but it was a pleasant one, the two mostly quiet but there wasn't any real friction between the two and the hours seemed to go faster for Suresslynn at least with a companion to help pass the time.

However, as it was getting into evening, another customer came in, his expression similar to someone who was being forced to walk through a manure pile in fancy clothes. "I require an antidote for a horse that was bitten by a copperhead snake." he said, his tone so superior that Suresslynn was surprised his swollen ego hadn't yet taken a physical form.

"Of course, sir. Here's a vial of two doses, at a price of 100 gold mizas." Sahfri said, handing the egotistical man a bottle of the antidote they had been making so much of that morning.

The man took the bottle with a sneer and looked at it. "And are you sure this will work? On horses and humans, I mean. Not just...others?" his lip curling at the Eypharian woman, who simply smiled and nodded. "Hmm...are you entirely sure?" he asked, still sneering.

Suresslynn turned to the man and smiled at him, her eyes as cold and flat as they were in her snake form. "It will work, ssssir. I'm sssomething of an expert on sssnakess mysself, and that antidote will work on horsssess and men ass well assss it will on uss." she said, playing up her hissing accent to the point where it would have been insulting if she had done it to another Dhani.

The man simply paid Sahfri and left after that, giving Suresslynn a somewhat unnerved look as he walked out the door. Sahfri waited quietly until the man was gone, then let out a short laugh. "That was not nice, Suresslynn. But appreciated, I must admit." she said, smiling slightly as she went back to work tending to the herbs in the shop.

"Not a problem at all, ma'am. Just don't tell anyone I used that accent. My mother would be so mad she'd probably travel all the way up here just to punish me for it." she said, chuckling slightly as she set aside another vial of antidote.

(The Stormhold Salves) Suresslynn's first day on the job

Postby Suresslynn on August 29th, 2014, 5:19 pm

Eventually, the evening passed into night and Sahfri locked the door to the shop. "Suresslynn, let's get everything cleaned up and ready for tomorrow." she said, tossing the Dhani a duster. The viper simply nodded and smiled slightly as she started cleaning the surfaces of the shop, taking special care around the fragile bottles and other containers so that she didn't break or spill any of the valuable items in the shop and lose the shop the money that could be made from them while Sahfri set about sweeping the floor.

It took the two women roughly half a bell to get the shop cleaned and everything put away, and at the point Suresslynn was ready to go back to where she was sleeping and maybe hunt down a couple mice before going to sleep. Or maybe just going to sleep and eating in the morning, she wasn't sure. Either way, she tired and a little hungry. "I'll see you tomorrow, ma'am." she said, waving to Sahfri as she left the shop while the Eypharian just smiled and waved back. Looking back on the day, Suresslynn had rather enjoyed her time at the shop, though one thing stuck out at her from very early in the morning. "Why on earth were the Copperheads acting so aggresively...possibly they had to move their nests out, but even then it's a little odd to have an increase in a need for antidote just from that...unless Sahfri doesn't keep as much antidote stocked as the antidote shops back home do...either way, perhaps I should look into it. she thought quietly as she walked back to where she was sleeping.

(The Stormhold Salves) Suresslynn's first day on the job

And the grades come rolling in.

Overall Comments
Lynn,

I did enjoy reading and grading this thread, however we had some issue with the lack of real skill usage and training in this thread. I understand it's a job thread by intention but I suggest doing more on the skills used within =D

Graders Please Note :
As Ball is getting closer and closer to maxing out Pyken as a skill, I would like to request that in places where Ball is not doing enough to constitute Pyken XP if Pyken technique lores could be issued instead.

Examples of proper XP level for Pyken would be: Ball developing or refining his technique by adding new thing against an actual moving target, not a dummy.

The use of basic skills alone are not enough to accomplish XP at Ball's current level of Pyken.

Thank you.

I will be handling all Ball related posts on Mondays @ 1800 my time *
