1st day of Winter, 514 AV

There was only a hint of chill in the air as Nivel ventured out into the training grounds in the early mourning of the first day of Winter. She had a lot of training she needed to catch up on and the start of a new season was the best day to go about doing it. The grounds were fairly empty at this time of day but the cold weather had made them even more barren than usual. It was possible that more Squires and knights would show up later after they applied the necessary coverage they needed to stay warm. The temperature wasn't low enough yet to really affect the pycon, but it was sure to get colder. For now she was able to go out freely without worrying about extra layers.

Flux was the skill that Nivel desperately needed practice on so once she found the most secluded area in the Grounds she started the necessary gestures to channel her power. After her little ritual of erratic arm and tail moments she was ready to start her training. Moving the energy to her upper body she threw a few punches taking the time to make sure her form was perfect and that she evenly distributed the energy. She still a good deal of energy in her legs so that she could stand up right but there also needed to be added strength in her attacks as well. Once the process had gotten easier she increased her speed and extended her punches out in length. While she normally could easily stretch her arms out to decent lengths doing so the flux was a bit harder to preform especially when she also had to make sure everything was perfect.

She was being very careful not to use to much Flux and tire herself out too soon. She still had a few things she wanted to do before she was forced to stop. Learning new pycon moves she could combine with her flux ablities was high on her list. Nivel felt if she practiced the moves with flux from the get go it would be much easier to preform them while using flux later on.

Nivel's basic from of attack had always been turning her arms into whips but she also had the sword arms, and the club arms she would sometimes use in her fights. It about time she switched things up and taught herself something knew, the question was what. Nivel didn't have the shape shifting abilities to try anything to drastic while also maintaining her flux and just the general power needed behind the move to make it effective. Tall folk sometimes thought shape changing was easy for a pycon but it was actually quite a complex endeavour. There was multiple things a pycon had to focus on, Nivel could only maintain forms that were different than herself for so long before she was throne back into her natural form. She would have to think simple.

Nivel usually shifted her ears into her arms to preform her attacks but thought she would do the reverse this time around. Her bat winged ears were almost the shape of an axe it wouldn't be hard to turn herself into one. She carefully shifted her arms into her ears and moulded them to the right shape all while maintaining the desired level of energy. Nivel wasn't as familiar with the shape of an Axe so it was a little hard to do. Once in the form she swung herself as one did with an axe but quickly lost balance and fell over. She lost the form and her djed went back to normal flow. It was a little frustrating but she did the gestures again, this time a slight head ache started to come almost immediately.

Nivel knew to take the head ache as a sign to take things slow and that she would need to stop soon. She hadn't injured herself with her flux yet and she wasn't the least bit interested in starting now. The Mage Squire would need every limb in working order if she was to be a Knight, but most of all she needed to be alive. It seemed easy to lose control and kill yourself and others around you with magic, so it was best to use precaution at all times.

The Axe Manoeuvre needed a bit of work but Nivel wanted to try something else instead of trying to prefect the move. Since her opponents were always taller than her she would need to use attacks with long range. When tall folk want to go long range they use arrows or slings, both were hard to replicate with her body. She wondered if she could launch a part of her body and create her own kind of projectile. It didn't seem to out of the real of possibilities, all she would really have to do is throw a really hard punch and separate her fist at the right time. Although as she had seen by her last bright idea, Theory and reality were very different.

With all her might she threw a punch as she pushed a portion of energy to back it up as well as a bit more clay to bulk it up in mass. She released the massive fist but with the added weight the fist launched into the ground in front of her making a rather large noise. Nivel was understandably disappointed but there was definitely force behind it so it wasn't a complete failure. The squire would just need to focus on keeping her fist steady, which sounded easy enough if it weren't for all the other things she needed to focus on to make it work.

She was very tired at this point, and it seemed like it was time to pack it in for another day. She would need a full day break from magic before she would attempt more training like this. Her Djed reserves needed replenishing and that took a bit of time, especially for a novice like her. She was still haunted by the whispers that she experienced in the fall after her and Garland fought those Yukman. She never wanted to experience those terrifying voices or the head aches that felt like a sword digging into her nexus ever again.

2nd Day of Winter, 514 AV

Nivel woke up feeling more tired than usual, but it was what she expected. As soon as she tired to move the ache of her over strained body became evident. It wasn't too bad but it was enough to remind her to take it easy. After gorging on a bit of clay she felt a little better but she new meditation would make her feel even more at ease.

She disengaged the energy flow from her vision so that she wouldn't be distracted from any visual stimuli and tried to focus on attaining a calmed state. She pretended she was a giant bird soaring through the mountains, observing the pine trees and snowy peaks. After a chime her body seemed to be less in pain but still not quite at full just yet. Only time could bring her back to normal, she would have to entertain herself with her other hobbies until she was her old self again.

Her sewing kit was located right in front of her little sock bed, but Nivel being as small as she was lived under the bed of Imellion. There was little light to be had under the massive tall folk bed that she slept under so the pycon would have to pull the kit out if she were to see what she was doing. Luckily the kit wasn't too heavy despite being nearly twice the size of Nivel, she was able to push it out from under the bed with little difficulty.

Nivel rummaged through her sewing kit in search of a needle, some thread and a few scraps of fabric to sew together. She obtained a needle about the size of a rapier and a purple skien of thread which she quickly but clumsily threaded through the eye of the needle. She implanted her rapier through the first scrap of fabric and then tied if off before jamming her pointy craft weapon through another scap and uniting the two pieces together. She weaved in and out through the fabric like she was attacking a monster with a sword. It didn't take her long before she realized this activity was actually pretty stressful and was bringing the ache in her nexus back to the surface.

She paused a moment for some brief breathing exercises before deciding on another activity. She had already learned a bit about Herbs from the Herbalist Ashryn and wanted to continue her pursuit of this knowledge. She still wasn't completely sure what she would do with this information but she none the less headed for the Archive.

She walked up to the front desk unnoticed by Sir Otryn, She climbed up to the desk which startled them man but not the armoured knights in the back that remained fairly static.
"oh! what can I help you with.." He strained his face as he tried to think of what the Pycons name was "..Nivel"
"oh I'm here to learn about Herbalism. Do you know of any books I should look for?"
The tall folk wore a perplexed look on his face wondering why a pycon would want to know such things
"uh..theres a basic book on the subject in the Nature studies section..Its not hard to find.
"Thank you for the help I'll go look for it." Nivel said happily as she jumped from the desk. Instead of landing as nimbly as she usually does she fell over upon impact
"Are you alright there dear?" The Scribe asked with a touch of concern
"Oh I just did some training and its made me a bit weak today..I should be back to normal tomorrow." Nivel said hoping her statement was true.
"Well remember not to go to hard on yourself little one."
"Okay thanks again" She walked over to the door to the main archive and squished herself through the crack.

Nivel scurried over to the book shelves with a bold sign that read "Nature Studies" in finely calligraphed writing. She stuck to the lower shelves which was luckily where the books she wanted were located. The pycon found a book titled "Herbs for beginners" and riffled through its pages. The book didn't go into to much details about how to harvest the plants but it did give a bit of information on a few plants and were to find them. Nivel focused mostly on the plants associated with healing since it was the application she was most interested in.

The first plant that Nivel became interested in was the "Vyvox" a plant with a long stem and lance-shaped leaves formed of hundreds of tinier leaves. Its most distinguishing feature was the small white flowers that grow in flat combs and clusters. It was used as an antiseptic and coagulant, Nivel didn't know what these words really meant but they had something to do with healing since they were meant to be applied to wounds. It can also be made into a tea, to continue the general healing process. The pycon made note that the flowers must be harvested in whole combs or clusters no smaller.

The second was the "Tolm" plant, a very common plant among hills and lower mountinas. The herb possesses a strong scent and grows on slim, erect stems with long hairy saw-toothed leaves topped in summer by light red flower combs and bunches. It is most often used in teas or tonics to ease pain, aid sleep and relax aching muscles. It didn't have any warning but it seemed that the root was the most important part to harvest. With Nivel's frequent use of Djed she wondered if these herbs really could help her with the aches to her nexus and other forms of over giving.

Nivel felt she had learned enough, She needed to eat more clay and take a nap. Her head ache was back and ruining her concentration, she wished magic didn't come with such hefty costs.
