A Mossful Excursion

The day before Tokie had instructed Savacea to gather some Moss, for what she was still unsure as the woman did not really indulge on the topic. It did not matter though, it was a simple task, or so Savacea thought. To be honest she only had vague knowledge of the stuff, although she knew it preferred moistened areas and figured since Black Rock stayed damp a lot it would not be hard to find. She walked along the path from the Dormitories of where she stayed, heading towards the Northern Docks where the ocean was. She supposed if she was going to be successful in this, that would be the place to look first.

The walk took a little while to get there and she watched what people called the Svefra selling to different patrons their wares. She did not know much of the people, only that they liked the ocean and ships, it was vague but that was all she knew. She walked away from the hustle and bustle of the men and women, and to the rocky shore of the beach. The faint noise of different voices still could be heard over the crashing of the waves, as she walked along the shore line, watching her step as the path was rocky.

She peered along the rocks, saw no moss and was a bit crestfallen. "Perhaps it is too much water so close to the ocean, or maybe the salt keeps it from growing so close.." The Symenestra speculated, walking away from the ocean to continue her investigation in search of this Moss. As she walked further away, the voices seemed to dim making her away from the people, and into a more stone and rock atmosphere. The thought of taking off her shoes occurred to her, though at the present time she decided it was best just to keep them on. Climbing would be such a more simple thing to do in this landscape instead of walking.

Up ahead she spied a small cliff like structure in the stone, it was somewhat smooth and moist from the atmosphere of Black Rock, as she approached it she investigated the structure. It was a dark stone, cool to the surface and not in the sunlight, but in the shade from the other rock structures around it. From this vantage point she could not see onto the cliffs, as it was too far up, but she could tell it was caste in shadows. Savacea looked around her and saw no body, other then the pesky ghosts who did not mind their own business, floating around staring at her. She was not sure if she would ever get used to that.

Savacea slipped her simple sandals off her feet, walking closer to the structure, letting the microscopic hosts come out as she ascended it. Her clawed hands assisting in her climb, as she gracefully scaled the surface with a unnatural ability and speed. It did not take her but a moment to get to the cliff she wanted to reach, she leaped upon it and dilated her pupils in the shadows to get a better view of her surroundings. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the patch of soft green moss she had came for. It was not in the sunlight and in a moist area. She leaned down and looked at the peculiar plant. It was small, looked plush, and did not really have much of a smell to it besides an earthy yet musky aroma.

The raven haired woman slung her silk pack around, sitting it on the stoned floor below her. Reaching her hand out she softly touched the organic pile, it was so soft to the touch and springy, getting on her knees to better cultivate the mass, she reached out and softly pulled. Unfortunately, this rough gesture made that mass crumble into pieces. Savacea let out an exasperated sigh, realizing it was more delicate then it appeared. Sitting back on her heels, she thought for a moment and nodded in her decision. The Symenestra took her index finger, using the clawed finger to lift up at the base of the next mass. It lifted easier, though not really wanting to leave the moist home it had. Carefully, taking her time, she used the nail to sort of cut it out of its home, until the mass completely lifted up from it's home. She exhaled, holding her breath in concentration, and carefully lifted the moss up and putting it to the side. Reaching into her silk pack, she got out a glass jar, placed the moss inside of it, and returned it to her pack. The excursion completed, she was excited to get back to Tokia with her treasured moss, and ask why she needed such a common and easily found plant.

Savacea descended the rock structure and left the Northen Docks as she made her way to the Eastern Bay, where Tokia's shop resided. Entering the earthy smelling cottage, she found Tokia assisting a rather very confused customer. She smirked knowing the feeling all to well, her shop was a mess, even if she says she knows where things were. There was items in every crook and cranny and in such a disarray it almost gave Savacea a headache. The Symenestra resigned herself to a corner by the window, as Tokia got the customer what they needed, and they left still looking confused.

The old woman turned on Savacea, giving her a look that the Symenestra could not read, "So you found it did you?" Savacea gave her a broad and some what sarcastic smile, nodding her head. "Of course." she simply replied, handing her the jar out of her silk pack. Tokia emptied the contents out on the counter and handed her jar back, Savacea placed it back in her pack, and the old woman was smiling at her.

"Well that was an easy assignment, it being your first day. The next will not be as easy, so wipe that look off your face." Tokia laughed and went behind the counter. Savacea held back the childish urge to stick her tongue out at the woman, instead she replied, "I hope the next time you send me out, it will be more difficult. This was just too easy." There was a challenge in her voice, she was not being disrespectful, just wanted to have better assignments in which were more difficult. She herself wanted to be challenged, that way she could learn and grow quicker.

Tokia nodded waving her forward, Savacea followed behind her. They entered a room in the back, there was a smooth flat surface and many different things about. Beakers, bowls, mortar and pestle, a hearth, it was all here. All the utensils needed in crafting a poison was in sight, right before her eyes, she looked over at Tokia a bit shocked and the old woman giggled. "You are free to use this area when ever you wish. Just be careful." Her wrinkled face lifted into a smile, as Savacea's mouth was open at the glorious sight before her, just nodding her head. Tokia lifter her hand to Savacea's chin tapping it, "Close your mouth child, you never know what could fly in it." She said with a chuckle, Savacea's mouth shut promptly, as they stepped inside, Tokia closing the door behind them.

Tokia grabbed the mortar and pestle, handing it to Savacea. She took it in her hands and looked up at Tokia with a slight frown, the old woman then placed the moss inside and waving her hand to Savacea indicating for her to churn the mass of moss. Savacea did so, turning the pestle in her hand, grinding the moss inside the mortar. "I use this space for many things, poison being the least of the uses but it is still a practice of mine. Keep turning dear, a little bit harder, there you go. Now, what I will be doing with the moss is grinding it, then I will place it in a small jar to dry. After it is dried out, I then will turn it into a powder form. This powder will then be added to an aromatic mixture of liquid wraith mint. Moss has a strong scent to it, so this helps hide that scent to someone who has knowledge of it. After it sits for a day, the powder completely disappearing in the liquid, it can then be used to cook a delicious mint treat. This treat though will be highly toxic of course." Tokia sighed and continued, "Once it is ingested, it will be metabolized by the person's digestive tract. It is not deadly, though it will result in a lot of discomfort and weeks of nausea, diarrhea, and occasional vomiting. Tokia stopped a moment in thought then went on, "I suppose if they do not stay hydrated they could die though, but anyway, the Wraith Mint will make them feel calm and soothed for the first day, then the poison will attack them as it will be fully digested by then. It will be harmless enough, but it will cause great discomfort. Okay dear, I think you have grind the moss enough, set it down over there."

Savacea nodded, placing the mortar down where Tokia indicated, grabbing her silk pack and bringing out her blank book, "Can I borrow something to write with for just a moment?" She asked and Tokia handed her a quill to write with. She carefully wrote down what Tokia said about the Moss and poison, then left the book open for the ink to dry, giving her the quill back. "I am not knowledgeable about Moss yet, do you think you could teach me a mineral poison next?" Savacea asked excitedly, Tokia nodded and she almost jumped in excitement, well she would of if it was like her to do so, but she kept herself planted to the floor giving Tokia a big smile that displayed her fangs.

Tokia observed her for a moment, thinking then leaned in to examine her more closely, "I will teach you of mineral poison, but next time you will tell me more about the poison in your fangs, it could be of use to me." Tokia inquired, raising a eye brow. Savacea felt a little awkward but nodded her head, "Of course, anything to know more about this craft. Thank you." Tokia smiled obviously satesfied and went to the mortar to finish up the poison. "Until tomorrow then my dear." She replied and Savacea grabbed her book, placed it in her silk pack, and left the woman to her work. She could not help but wonder if Tokia was making it for a customer or wanted to use it herself on someone. She made a note not to eat anything the Myrian woman offered in the future.
