Lungs of Centipede
32nd Summer, 515 Av

Savacea walked with a purpose, strangely enough she even had a closed mouth smile on her face. The morning air held a moisture to it that she inhaled into her lungs, the scent of salt and rock hitting her senses as she did so. The pink blush of the sunrise could be seen through the thinly fogged sky, as the sun began to rise bringing light to the dreary landscape of Black Rock. Today she would create a poison, that Tokia said would be beneficial for her to learn. With that thought in mind she picked up her speed, not wanting to waste a minute to get there.

Tokia's cottage finally came into view, it was a quaint little cottage that did not resemble much of a shop, as much as a home. Swirls of smoke could be seen coming out of the chimney, as Tokia was likely using the hearth to make a potion. She is at it already I see.. Savacea thought, her grin widening into a smirk as she shook her raven hair. The little Symenestra pushed open the door, entering the cottage. The clutter hit her in the eye, but she smiled fondly at it as she had became accustomed to the old woman's strange organizing, although Mook still did not understand the system. She sighed softly as she headed to where Tokia was in the cottage.

"Good morning." She said in a bright tone, waving slightly at Tokia. The older woman turned, a small smile on her face as she nodded her head at Savacea, Good morning, are you ready to work? The Myrian asked, a bit breathless from her tedious task over the hearth. Sweat beaded on her forehead, as her wrinkled hand came up to shove it off, giving Savacea a toothy grin. The Symenestra nodded a bit enthusaticly, "Always." She simply replied in a determined tone.

Tokia clicked her tongue, shaking her head, then laughed a low laugh. I would not expect you to say anything other. She said, waving the small Symenestra forward. Savacea complied to the gesture, coming up beside Tokia. The Myrian opened a book to a page that was marked and pointed at a large centipede like creature that was illustrated on the tattered page, with a short description under it. I need you to find this, the poison we can create from it is called Carrion Limb. It causes the loss of movement of ones limbs. Could come in handy if you ever find yourself against a foe who swings a sword like a master. Tokia explained what the centipede was, how it was useful, and what it could do.

Savacea nodded as the Myrian was indeed correct. She would not want to go up against someone who could swing a sword and easily kill her, the loss of movement of their limbs could be quite useful as a way to escape them better. "So what do I need to get then?" Savacea asked staring at the illustration, it was a rather large centipede and it was quite grotesque. She did not mind insects, though she did not really like them either. You need the lungs from it. That is the only part that will be useful. I imagine it can be found in the depths of Black Marsh. Tokia said as she tilted her head as if in thought, then righted herself. Savacea gave another nod, although she was reluctant to go back to Black Marsh as it was not a place that was exactly safe. "Before you go though, I do need some things done around the shop. After you are finished here you can set out for Black Marsh." Savacea sighed and got to work, she would have preferred to have an early start, though she understood that Tokia needed help and was more then happy to oblige. The thought of being in Black Marsh when the sun was setting troubled her though.

The Hunt..

Syna was up in the sky, slowly descending downwards as her time on Mizahar was declining and soon Leth would dominate the sky. Savacea hoped she could get in and out of Black Marsh before it was dark, though the possibility was low. The ground beneath her feet was making a slurping sound, the muddy texture making her feet wet. The sparse trees had lichen hanging from their branches, the sun's rays casting eerie shadows upon Black Marsh, as they swayed wraith-like in the slight breeze. The fog billowed and swirled from the moist ground, reaching up with it's spectral like hand to wrap around the base of the trees. It was spine chilling, causing pocks of goose-flesh to appear on Savacea's arms. The aroma of musty earth entering her nostrils, making them flare with disdain, as she continued to walk into the depths of the marsh, with her crossbow in one hand and the bolts in her pack, she hoped the giant Centipede was not overly large. Savacea was a small woman, the crossbow was still very new to her, and besides all that a huge ass centipede frightened the hell out of her. Futhermore, the Symenestra did not mind insects really, she found them disgusting at times, but was not freaked out too badly. However, if the centipede was as big as she was, she was not sure she would be able to not scream like a little girl.

Pushing through her fears of the insect, she continued her excursion, traveling deeper inside the phantasmic marsh. From the corner of her eye she would see a ghostly animal running into the shadows, or a ghostly figure swaying to and fro. Biting her lower lip, she hoped she would not run into a ghost who was panicked or irritated. Slowing her feet down, so they did not make too much noise, she clung to the shadows herself. Trying her best to be stealthy although the trees were few and far between. Consequently, the deeper she walked into the Marsh, the more the goose-flesh upon her skin would grow, with a deep feeling of dread settling inside her. Savacea would jump slightly when she heard a noise echoing through Black Marsh, like the wail of a man damning the skies above for his existence in the world. At times she thought she would see a figure of a woman out of the corner of her eye, quickly dismissing it so her heart would not rip out from her chest in a beating of fear.

Savacea walked for a bell, Syna's bright rays casting outward through the brush inside the Marsh Land. Soon the sun would be setting, she had about a bell more before she would be shrouded in Leth's grace, which she was not really looking forward to. Glancing around her, she saw a tree that looked stable and sturdy, the lichen hanging from its branches like a concealing veil. Throwing her crossbow over her shoulder the best she could, she grabbed the trunk with her clawed hands, ascending the trunk quickly. When she was up inside the tree she found a thick branch to sit upon, resting her back against the back of the base and wrapping her legs around the branch. Savacea then pulled back the string on her crossbow, locking it in place. Pulling out a bolt she placed it between her legs so she could grab it with ease in case the large centipede came upon her perch. The Symenestra sat there and waited, the lichen providing camouflage as she peered through the greenish-white vegetation of the world below her. Patiently waiting like a predator for it's prey.

The Hunt 2..

Note For Grader :
I was not sure exactly what the giant centipede was, looked like, how big it could be as it did not really say. Since centipede's do not have lungs in the real world, this is what I am imagining as to what the poison implies (picture below) so if it is not correct please PM me and let me know and I will make the edits necessary. Thanks! Arthropleura

The Symenestra dilated her pupils so she could see in the dimming light. She did not have night vision like the nocturnal predators, though her vision was slightly better at night then the typical being, therefor she planned on using this to her advantage as Syna was descending steadily. Savacea waited patiently upon her perch. The rough bark of the lichen filled tree making her want to move around, but she held still hoping patience would be kind to her this day. To her left she heard a noise, it was a shuffling on the damp marsh floor below her. The pace was a bit fast, making her think it could not be a centipede. The smaller centipedes did not move very quickly from what she had seen, sure they were more agile then a snail but still was not quick like a spider. Anticipation made her clench her muscles, grasping her crossbow tightly in her hand as she scanned her surroundings with her red, dilated eyes.

Looking below she saw a flash of red against the darkened earth. Savacea turned her gaze towards it, to see a giant centipede. This centipede was long and wide, appearing to be at least four inches long and six inches wide, as it moved swiftly across the ground on its many legs. The head was bulbous with indention for eyes on the side, small black insectual tusks came from the middle of the head. The insect swerved agilely to miss any rocks or obstacles as it made it's way to her perch.

Savacea's pulse quickened, as she raised the crossbow with her right hand, placing a bolt securely inside with her left, then holding the crossbow with both her hands now, she aimed at the centipede that was scurrying across the marsh. She tried to slow her breathing and her body, as the suspense shook her body in trembling excitement. Her eyes sparkling with the same anticipation, as she glared down at her foe. The creature paused for a moment, looking as though it was feeding on some type of vegetation. Now was her chance to strike the disgustingly large centipede. Leaning slightly forward she balanced herself on the tree branch, tightening her legs around it's girth. Aiming for the head of the creature, not wanting to puncture it's lungs she pulled the trigger on the crossbow letting the bolt fly downwards to where it was feasting. Consequently, the bolt missed it's target, sending it off in a hurry. "PETCH!" Savacea yelled into the eerily quiet marsh, as she hurriedly climbed down from her perch. Dismissing the bolt she ran after the strange insect, as it swiftly moved ahead of her.

The Hunt 3..

Pumping her legs she accelerated her speed, breaths coming out in shortened gasps, as she tried to move quickly towards her prey. Her feet hammered against the moist floor, sending sprays of mud and muck up against her legs, as she pounded her sandal clad feet. The large thing could move quicker then she had first thought, as it deftly swerved around the obstacles around it. Savacea did the same, swerving out of the way of things that littered her path, jumping over larger obstacles, until they came to an enclosed like area. Rocks blocked the large centipede's path now, making Savacea grin as it gave pause. Pulling the string back on her crossbow she cocked it, loading a bolt quickly, she aimed. The damned centipede was now crawling up the rock, as if it was a spider with gravity defying abilities. Savacea let out a frustrated noise from deep inside her throat, as she moved in closer aiming her crossbow as she walked.

She sent the bolt flying, aiming for the middle of the Centipede's back this time, but instead it landed at the end of it's tail. The large thing let out a noise that made her blanch, taking a step back. It swung its upper body from side to side, not really having the intelligence necessary to understand who caused the pain in it's lower extremity. Cocking her crossbow once again and loading a bolt she aimed, before she lost the chance. Letting the bolt fly, she was aiming for the head but missed and hit what would be the neck area if it had such a thing. The giant centipede let out a loud gurgling noise into the Black Marsh, sending chills up Savacea's spin. Dismissing the fright, she pulled back the string on her crossbow once more, placing a bolt in securely she lifted it up holding one eye closed as she aimed for the head once more. Dilating her pupils in the now, almost non existent light, she let the bolt fly on an exhale and it finally hit the target. Piercing the large skull and making the centipede fall from the rock it had began to climb.

The red and black centipede fell to the damp ground in a heap. The multiple legs still making a crawling motion as it laid upon it's back. Savacea approached with caution and paused her movement, not wanting to get to close as the little legs still moved, creeping her out slightly. When the hundreds of little legs stopped twitching, she began approaching once again, bringing out her Spider Throwing Knife and a large jar from her pack. She walked carefully, unsure if the thing was dead or not, making little noise with her feet. Standing a few feet away, she raised the knife and threw it at the centipede. The sharp blade lodging itself into the belly of the insect. It did not move or make a noise, indicating that it was indeed dead.

Savacea let out a long and loud breath, not realizing until just then that she had been holding it in. Moving with more confident feet, she yanked the knife out of the giant centipede, blood and something else slugging through the small wound. Thankfully, the large insect was now on it's back, so perhaps she would have a better chance at finding the lungs this way. Starting right below it's head she stuck her blade in fiercely, then sliding it out slightly so only the sharp point was inside of the centipede. Slicing downwards in a slow motion, until she was in the middle of the insect, she went up then sliced back up towards the head, making a long open wound on the bug.

All sorts of things fell out of the centipede once she finished the open space, nothing appeared to be lungs though, with a disappointed sigh she reached her hands inside of the centipede. The texture of slime and moistened organic substances made her gag slightly as she dug around inside of the Centipede. Her hand sloshed through the bodily fluids, until it found something along the lines of what she thought could be a lung. Wrapping her hand gently around the organ she gave a soft tug, releasing the pulpy mass from it's owner, bringing it forth it was indeed a lung. It was a curious looking lung, as it was blackened with a mucous like slime dripping from it's lumped, oval shape. Savacea deposited the lung into the large jar, then placing her elongated, clawed hand back inside of the insect she found the other mass and placed it inside the jar with it's brother. Wiping her hand off on the damp ground, she rose up from the insect, glancing down at it's gutted and curled form. Savacea felt no pity for the ugly centipede, as it was beneficial to her craft to have it's lungs. Instead she shrugged her shoulders, placing a lid on the jar and placing it inside her pack. Retrieving her Knife she stuck it into the wet ground a few times to clean it's shining surface off, then wiped it on her tights to place it in her pack as well. Dismissing the bolts inside of the centipede, she followed their trail back to the tree she was stationed, to make her way out of the Black Marsh and back to Tokia's.

Leth was now rising into the sky, as the Syna disappeared. The moonbeams casting from the glowing orb, made the Marsh look sinister. The lichen hanging from the branches of the sparse trees, swayed in and out of the moonlight, looking like wisps of spirits dancing from the branches. Savacea quickened her pace to Tokia's Tonics, still a half-bell from the entrance. Her feet making the slurping noise as it did earlier. The blood-curdling Marsh was falling behind her as she practically jogged to escape the clutches of the forbidding shadows. Her heart pulsated a swift rhythm against her chest, as the hair upon her neck began to rise, cautioning her that the wraiths of Black Marsh were now coming out to play. Savacea's stride became faster with angst settling inside her, the desperate need to get out pushing her forward.

Finally out of the Black Marsh and on the road to Tokia's her heart began to settle. The Black Marsh at night was no where she wanted to be and she chastised herself for not hitting the mark the first try. The Crossbow was still a learning process for her, she knew this, but she also knew that being out in the foreboding Black Marsh while Leth was ruling the sky was also not okay. Savacea remembered when her and her friend Loda was out in that marsh, something ominous lurked in the shadows, the feeling of evil could be detected in the pit of your stomach. Shivers raced through her body at the memory, as she came to the cottage of Tokia. Light flickered inside, as Tokia was just beginning to close up shop for the night.

Savacea came through the door, she knew she looked an awful sight. Mud adorned her clothes, with blood and slime from centipede guts, and sweat beaded down her face that was more pale from the fear of the Black Marsh still running through her. Tokia looked at her, shock apparent in her eyes as she came forward, "Did you get the..lungs?" The Myrian woman asked hesitantly looking at Savacea's body up and down, her nose turning up slightly in disgust. The Symenestra knew her aroma at this moment likely smelled of dank earth and centipede guts. It was not a fragrance that mingled well with her own body odor from sweating.

The Symenestra let out a sigh, getting the jar out from her pack and holding it up for the woman to view for herself. The Myrians tawny hands reached up, grabbing the jar to bring it closer to her eyes. Examining the black, pulp like lungs that were still slimy looking. Her lip curled in disgust as she handed the jar back to Savacea with a nod, "I suggest you get to boiling them while I finish cleaning and closing the shop. Perhaps wash yourself off a little at the basin while you are at it, you smell of old animal feces." The woman commented, as she walked away to begin her closing procedures. Savacea rolled her eyes and walked to the back of the shop where the work space was located. Sitting the jar down on the smooth table, she walked over to the basin that held water to wash your hands. Grabbing a towel she dipped it into the liquid redemption, soaking it until it was dripping with water. Taking the towel she swiped at her face, neck, chest, then her arms and hands. Placing the now blackened towel back into the murky water she felt a little better, ready to start on making the poison Carrion Limb.

Boiled Lungs of Centipede..

Savacea had to hurry up with boiled the lungs, she had not time to waste. Placing the pot of clean water on the heating elements, she untwisted the cap of the jar that contained the lungs. Tipping the jar over, the lungs splashed inside of the pot, as it slowly began to heat up. Savacea pulled on a pair of gloves, then a mask that was found inside the work space. Standing with her hand on one hip, she patted her sandaled foot impatiently in front of the pot, waiting for it to boil.

Tokia could be heard in the front, sweeping the floor of the shop by the sounds of it, tidying up to close down for the night. Savacea rolled her bottom lip, cursing the water for taking so long to boil. With an exasperated gust of air from her lips, she turned to clean the basin she had recently washed herself with. After it was cleaned and filled with clean water once more, she turned to the pot, looking at the beginning bubbles of a boil. They rose up slowly, indicating that it was about to start rolling. After the bubbles became faster and larger, the water started to boil finally, the blackened lungs dancing around in the water as it did so.

Savacea took a wooden spoon, stirring the lungs around slightly, as jiggled around the bubbles of water. After a ten chimes of boiling them, she took the pot off of the heat, bringing it to place on a towel on the table. Getting a bowl she scooped out the tender lungs into the wooden bowl. She poked one with her spoon and noticed that they had became more fragile now, but they needed to dry out before they could be turned into a powder. A regretful sigh escaped her lips, knowing she would have to leave them here over night to be fully dried out to turn into a powder.

Wrapping a cloth around the top of the small wooden bowl, she then placed a larger bowl on top of the smaller one, to completely cover it. Savacea tilted her head, then removed the larger bowl. Thinking perhaps that would trap the moisture inside, not helping it to dry out. Instead she kept the cloth on top of the small bowl, placing it in a window so the sun would hit it and help dry it out, at least she had hoped for this. Savacea gathered her Crossbow and pack, walking to the front of the store. The Myrian woman was reading, obviously waiting on her to finish her task, "Sorry to keep you waiting, I am done for the night. I will have to finish it tomorrow." Savacea explained with an apologetic smile. Tokia gave a swift nod, putting the book down and walking to the door. "That is fine, see you tomorrow. Please do not forget to take a bath before coming to work though, you really do stink." The woman said, emphasising the Savacea's stink by holding her nose between her index finger and thumb shaking her head. Savacea chuckled at the dramatic gesture, rolling her eyes, "I will think about it." Savacea said teasingly as she walked out of the shop and headed towards the Dormitories. She agreed with Tokia, she really needed a bath. She could smell herself and it was not pleasant at all. Savacea might not be the girly type, but she certainly did not want to walk around with a stink cloud around herself. So she would take a bath before going to bed, impatiently waiting for Syna to rise once more, signaling the start of a new day.
