A hunting expedition

69th of Fall 515AV

Finally loaded up for a hunting trip Thyme made her way out of the city. She had been waiting for this day for quite some time a chance. To possibly bag some prey, either as a predator of the sky or a clumsy. Human, either way food was food what made things even better was that there was a slight nip in the air. Thyme quite enjoyed cold weather, it would take about an hour give or take to get to where she was going on foot less if she weren't bound to two legs. However it was necessary to carry all of this gear in the end it would be worth it.

About an hour of uneventful travel went by.

Finally making it to her destination, a Wooded section next to the bronze watchtower she set up her tent and offloaded her gear into it.

This took about twenty or so minuets to complete.

After everything was set up she begin to strip herself of clothing, so that she could change into a more suitable form for hunting. After she had finished Thyme placed all of her clothing next to her Rucksack and backpack so that she could put them on later. Now bare of clothing Thyme walked outside so that she could enjoy the feeling of the crisp air apon her body before she would begun the. Hunt Thyme Inhaled deeply before transforming, one minuet There was a swirl of bright lights the next in place of thyme. There stood a great horned owl, She shook her body and spread her wings in stretch. "It feels so wonderful to once again be what I truly am!" she had thought to herself. With a few powerful flaps of her wings she became airborne and began to circle the camp she set up.

A hunting expedition

Postby Thyme on October 21st, 2015, 10:16 pm

From an airborne perspective the camp was meek in comparison to its surroundings. And would be difficult for an untrained eye to notice, Thyme didn't see any movement from where she currently was. So she had decided to hunker down on a tree limb close to her camp, on low enough branch to observe the forest floor with minimal effort. Yet high enough not to be noticed by whatever she might be watching at the time. Be it prey, or human, who just happened to be passing by. She saw little movement on the forest floor, witch was a little disappointing to say the least. thyme had a light meal on the way to her current camp sight witch meant that within the hour she needed to find food. the Great horned owl hadn't wanted to change back to her pervious form, nor had she wanted to break into her rations. Just yet

She was stolen from her current though by a flickering movement. Something had passed through the trees about 40 yards away "Oh? Might you be my meal for the day?" Thymes eyes followed the movement of the prey with the utmost attention. Nothing could steal her attention now, nothing...

After two minutes that had seemed to have lasted for hours she had her opportunity to strike, the. Hare had come to rest, and feed in a small clearing. Time felt as though it had slowed down, Thyme stretched her wings out and took off from the tree. She glided silently to her target, making no noise while she made the decent. "Forty, Thirty, Twenty, Ten"
and just like that she was apon the wild hare, by the time it had noticed her...It was too late the Thyme extended her talons and brought herself upright with a single powerful flap of her wings. With her wings fully extended she must have looked like an angle of death to this poor hare. Thyme dug her talons into the hare, right. Bellow the midsection of its spinal cord, the sharp and wickedly curved talons of the great owl sunk into the hares flesh as if it were butter. It tried to escape her grasp by kicking out its hind legs, but that only served to press the hare into the ground. Bringing her head down she severed. Its spinal cord at the base of the skull by biting into the hare with her sharp beak. It went limp almost instantly, She kept her talons and beak sunk into the hare awhile longer to insure that it was dead....It ceased to move

Joyous with the efficiency of her kill she removed her talons from the carcass, it had been some time since last she had bagged some prey. And of this size as well, it was a fat hare. Likely preparing for winter, she had hesitated a moment. Before she ripped the head from the rabbits carcass and broke the legs so that it was lighter and more compact. So that she might bring it back to her perch

After some flight she was back on the branch that she had taken off from
Thyme began to eat her meal.

A hunting expedition

Postby Thyme on October 22nd, 2015, 8:28 pm

Ten minutes after the meal

The Great Horned Owl Thyme sat on the thick and rather nice branch that she had taken off from, and eaten on. At current the thought of building a nest really appealed to thyme. Of course she would consider this for quite some time before actual doing so. "If" she were to do so in the first place. Although sluggish and passive during the current time of the day. Thyme remained alert and observant of her surroundings, a sort of well to do attitude that Thyme had adopted earlier on in life. And would keep, so long as she were alive

Thymes thoughts
"This would be a wonderful place to set up camp. Relative closeness to the city, decent game. I’ll just have to adopt this as my usual camping spot"

Although thyme disliked this city, but it was necessary. She could buy gear and other things there, which she couldn't yet make out here in the wilderness

Thymes thoughts
"That isn't the only bonus to this particular site, when I had killed the hare. I think that I saw, signs of animal activity. Other than what I have recently killed. As well as more hare tracks, if he wasn't the only one then I might have a few more good meals while here."

Spreading her wings once more she glided back down to her tent. landing the small clearing she transformed back into a human, anyone near would be able to easily notice the light that was emitted from the transformation. once more she stood on two legs, Thyme stretched and yawned. "I should find some firewood.." she said out loud to herself

Not caring about her lack of clothing, she began off into the woods that she was in not too long ago while hunting. Finding small sticks of dead wood she began to make a small bundle in her arms. Taking care to snap the twigs and sticks in half so that she could carry more.

With a small armful of sticks she headed back to camp

Four minutes later

Having set the bundle down out in the clearing right outside of the tent she proceed back into the tent to dig around in her rucksack, to find the kindling. and in the back pack to get the flint and steel, neither of the items were hard to find. Nor was it time consuming, with items in hand Thyme went back outside to start a fire, she would first. Start by digging a small dugout for the fire in the soft soil with her hands. Then Thyme would arrange all of the items in a teepee like fashion with the kindling in the center and some twigs and sticks to get it going

Thyme lit the kindling with the flint and steel. It was more difficult than one might think. Once that was started she added some twigs and got the fire going. Once it was a satisfactory size Thyme crossed her legs and sat in front of the fire a small bundle of wood next to her to fuel the fire

A hunting expedition

69 Fall 515

Clyde had decided to make a short journey into the wilds about Syliras, done for various reasons of his own.

First and foremost, he wanted to show his usefulness to Syliras. He'd heard of some bandit problems, and thought helping out with it might gain him some favor. Of course, he planned to do this in front of a knight or squire, where it would have the maximum impact.

Considering finding both a group of bandits together with a knight in need wasn't too likely, Clyde figured it would take him a few days to find what he needed.

Plus, the woods and wilds were large, not every speck of it was populated by bandits. Until he found their haunts, he'd likely just stumble about without finding anyone.

But even if that didn't work, he could always go hunting or resource gathering.

Today he was wearing his more common clothes, and as always had Cha in hand. The blue length of enchanted wood rarely left his grip. Along with that he had a hammer tucked into his belt, his pack and gear on his back, and Rye his guard dog at his side.

Being a dog he was of limited usefulness in combat, but he was good at detecting trouble and giving Clyde that moment to respond when needed. And he was good at detecting prey or predators of the more natural or unnatural varieties.

Clyde continued to wander about, until Rye uttered a low growl to get his attention.

Looking in the direction the dog faced he saw a small trail of smoke, and perhaps some signs on ground level of a flickering fire. The latter was more obscured and not a sure sign, since it was blocked by trees and the plant life on the ground.

“Come Rye, lets go investigate.”

Heading in the direction of the possible fire, Clyde looked about, searching for any sign that a person had passed through. Fires usually indicated people, though he was hard pressed to decide if that meant good people or less good people.

Logically though, a fire meant people. Or the start of a forest fire... Either way, it was worth investigating.

OOC note: You can assume for your post Clyde heads in your direction, and anything up to when he walks into the clearing and spots you.

Thyme jerked her head in the direction of the sound. Footsteps, a voice and a growl.

And the smell, they carried the foul smell of Syliras

Unsure of this unknown persons intent, and the beast that they brought with them Thyme. Attempted to spring up from where she sat, stumbling a tad she managed to get her footing after. Only after she was standing fully
Her eyes darted back and forth between the tent, where her bow was. And the woods that were behind the tent where she had recently acquired some game. But there was another option,

"Sigh"

Quickly she hid behind the tent, and took one deep breath
Of course the light generated from the. Transformation would be noticeable
But from behind the tent it might not have been, with haste Thyme spread her wings. And begun to flap her wings, but due to her unique soft feathers Thymes flight was almost entirely silent. Only those with the keenest of ears might hear the beating of her wings. Instead of retreating to the woods, where it was likely to be safer she perched herself on top of one of the tents support poles. And would await her guests, whether they were hostile or not

A hunting expedition

Clyde headed out into a small clearing, still greeted by Rye's growl.

As they entered Clyde clutched Cha lovingly, as a small child might hold a loved doll or blanket.

Immediately his eyes took in his new surroundings. A tent set up, which likely meant a camp. It was in decent repair, so likely hadn't been abandoned or left there for long.

Next was the campfire. It was still burning, not smoking, which meant it had not been left alone for long either. Either the inhabitants of the camp were nearby, and likely would return soon, or... Or perhaps they were still about, and watching. Why someone would hide as a single person approached though, if that was the case, simply brought more questions. Hiding because they should not be here? Did not want to be found? Because they were afraid, and thought he would attack? Because they were cautious? Or had simply gone away for a bit and would return in time...

Clyde didn't see any signs of a great number of people being in the camp, but with his limited wilderness survival and tracking skills, he was hard pressed to tell how accurate that assumption was.

He checked the grass, and the dirt, the underbrush, but didn't see anything he could see clearly marked passage or number of those to pass.

Along with the tent and fire was an owl, resting atop the tent. Clyde first thought was a pet, perhaps left to guard the camp. Or perhaps a pet simply left behind.

Or, Clyde thought to himself, a kelvic. He couldn't be sure if the bird was one or not, but he'd rather bear in the side of caution. Any fowl or beast could be a kelvic in disguise. Who knew what kind of spies the knighthood used, and for what purposes? Who knew what information they tried to gather in a stealthy manner, while showing their kind face.

He wasn't sure, but he knew it could be done, and so didn't tempt the thought of being complacent.

Clyde walked about the camp, looking at the items and things in various spots. As he walked, he spoke to Rye in a neutral voice. Not loud or shouted, but spoken clearly. It could as easily be a speech given to the dog, as to a person hiding nearby, or the bird on the tent. Any would likely hear, and Clyde purposely left his words vague and without direction so it wouldn't be clear his intent.

“Well then, lets look about this camp, and see what we find. Perhaps something interesting will come up. Or perhaps someone will come out and greet me. Who knows.”

If he finished searching the camp, and was not met, he would continue on and look within the tent, not going completely inside, but looking about at its contents and seeing what was within. All the while as he walked he would keep his awareness and his eyes on the bird, while occasionally looking to the outskirts of the clearing.

If he didn't yet meet anyone, he'd finish his search of the tent, make a loop about it once, and then come to rest next to the fire, facing in between the fire and the tent.

Should Clyde find a set of clothes, as if taken off and then their owners having run off into the woods naked, that would tell him something else also, and likely show further evidence for some thoughts.

If he should do all of this and still not be met, he would let out a sigh, and continue on talking in the same fashion as before, as Rye still continued to let out his low growl, now facing towards the bird on the tent.

“Well, I suppose we'll just sit here and wait, till someone comes back and decides to greet us. After all, I wouldn't want there things taken, and should I leave it some other less scrupulous person might come by and take something. Yes, I suppose I'll just wait here.”

A hunting expedition

Thyme would let the mysterious man, and his dog. Search awhile longer, but once he would get to the opening of the tent to search around she would. Glide down to the opposite side of the campfire, Relative silent for her proximity to the man and his dog. But not entirely unheard she would be. As she made little attempt to be "stealthy" having landed she transformed the. Light would be dazzling and distracting, likely stopping the man from any "Investigating" he was doing and before him. There would be a female with golden brown hair, and "owl" like eyes

"What brings this one to my camp hmm? Hopefully not bringing harm."

Instead of sitting, Thyme would lay down. A position that would be most comfortable for thyme for the time being, but not modest or "decent" in any way. Although thyme hadn't the mind for those things anyways and if she had, she wouldn't have cared.

If the man were to sit down and not say anything Thyme might prop her head up. If he were to sit down and say something, Thyme would sit up and cross her legs. Sitting and listening attentively, her eyes following his every motion, her ears hearing all that he'd have to say. Maybe if he stood there long enough she might get up and do something.

She raised an eyebrow in curiosity and awaited him.

Clyde tensed for a moment as the owl took flight, a motion and sound that wasn't lost on him. The fact that it hadn't flown off when he'd walked into camp or when he'd neared but when he'd been distracted and looking within the tent told him something. Logically if the movement was a wild animal fleeing it would have done so upon first seeing him, not later while noting his distraction.

Plus, he'd never seen a bird able to note distraction, and use that as an opening to move. It seemed to denote more intelligence than a common fowl. This seemed to further prove his idea, or what some might call a general paranoia, that the bird was a kelvic in disguise.

As Clyde turned to face the bird as it landed, there was a flash of light and color and his theory was proven true as the kelvic changed from its animal form to that of a woman.

A naked woman laying out across the ground. Clyde shook his head and rolled his eyes at the silliness of kelvics, prancing about with no modesty in the nude. He'd seen harlots with more manners and modesty than the average kelvic, who often seemed to delight in throwing others off by their unabashed nudity.

Clyde simply ignored it, keeping his focus on her eyes. He found one could tell much more from another's eyes. Plus he didn't want to let her distract him with her flesh. That would be an all to simple ruse to draw his attention, while enemies snuck in from behind and tried to attack him.

He was fairly certain that was one of the oldest tricks in the bandit book, and wasn't going to let himself fall for such a thing.

Clyde didn't sit, instead standing and facing the woman/kelvic, eyeing her with his steady gaze.

“So are you stupid, or do you just think me stupid? Or are you just an idiot? Which is it?”

Although she was met with little more than harsh words, and a even harsher gaze. Thyme was fairly unfazed by all of this, and simply returned the stare there was little that he could tell from her eyes other. Than she was quite curious about him, and there was a mischievous look about her.
The only thing that had disconcerted her was that he had asked if she was stupid, or thought him ignorant. It was more confusing than anything, but still it threw her off slightly

Thyme sat up and tiled her head "Think you ignorant?" She repeated his words in the form of a question "well perhaps it is all of the above, maybe we are all stupid. Maybe it is just you, mayhaps you blundered into a trap. And no matter what direction you back if facing you are plowed, because you are surrounded either way." She raised an eyebrow and then, raised her arms in stretch "Maybe it is me who is the idiot, leaving my only weapon in which I have to defend myself. In the tent over yonder, the very tent that you are currently standing in front of. Blocking me from, as well leaving myself barren and exposed to the ravaging hands and other things of a bandit such as yourself

She crossed her legs and slowly covered her chest with one of her arms. In a gesture that would support her statement. However sarcastic it might be
"Well which is it? she turned his own statement back on him in an act that she hoped would throw him off. Either way she held the gaze that the strange man with a staff had placed apon her. In all truth she was really quite scared of him, and more so of his intentions might be.

A hunting expedition

Clyde mentally groaned to himself as the kelvic's first response was to reply his own words back to him. This was one of the simplest of stalling tactics Clyde knew, and one he'd seen used a dozen times while interrogating someone.

While some might think of this as a casual conversation, Clyde thought of it more as a interrogation, with a hostile witness who didn't perhaps realize they were being interrogated. But so far what he'd seen hadn't assuaged his belief that she might be conning him, or setting him up for some kind of trap. Repeating back ones words was a common way to stall as they thought of something to say in response to what was said to them. To Clyde this meant she had either been thrown off by what he'd said and was trying to make time to properly respond, or she truly was a imbecile.

Her next words though proved even more how foolish she was. If he'd been a bit less restrained, her idle threat would have been the end of it. He could kill her with a twitch of his nose. Petch, he could do it without a twitch or any other gesture, he thought to himself. Of course, she had no way of knowing how foolish her threat was. If it was true though, it was showing her hand and putting him on guard. If it was false, then she was even more of a fool, and liable to get herself killed acting in such a fashion to the wrong person.

As she carried on with her conversation, Clyde became more and more convinced she was either trying to con him or was a complete fool. She admitted she was unarmed, not that there had been any doubt with his state of dress, and then accused him of being a bandit.

In the end she once more repeated his own words back at him, glaring foolishly up at him as he stood there with Cha in hand. He gripped the length of wood tightly in his grip, shaking his head as he glared at the fool girl.

He'd had enough of her idiocy, and wasn't going to play her hand. Either he'd force her hand, and spring the trap if it was to be sprung, or he'd leave the presence of a fool kelvic that seemed likely to get herself and anyone else around her killed.

“Fine, do as you wish, fool. If you are a bandit, and this is a trap, then go ahead and do your worst. If you aren't, well then either way I'm leaving before your idiocy gets me into any more trouble.”

Stamping Cha on the ground once, he felt out a bit within his djed vision, a pulse echoing forth from Cha in a way only Clyde could see or understand. Like a string stretching out the pulse settled onto the kelvic, aligning with her, and giving him a shallow understanding of her and her aura. It meant that he could see her in his djed sight even without looking upon her, useful if she decided to chase after him or tried to signal or attack.

Such a simple technique and on only a single target took not even the time to draw and exhale a full breath.

With that Clyde turned away from the kelvic, and started walking back off in the direction he'd come. He knew if there was a trap, it wouldn't be coming from that direction.

As he walked off he shouted one last thing without bothering to turn and look at the naked girl.

“And put some petching clothes on! Its nearly winter you fool!”
