Clyde headed out into a small clearing, still greeted by Rye's growl.
As they entered Clyde clutched Cha lovingly, as a small child might hold a loved doll or blanket.
Immediately his eyes took in his new surroundings. A tent set up, which likely meant a camp. It was in decent repair, so likely hadn't been abandoned or left there for long.
Next was the campfire. It was still burning, not smoking, which meant it had not been left alone for long either. Either the inhabitants of the camp were nearby, and likely would return soon, or... Or perhaps they were still about, and watching. Why someone would hide as a single person approached though, if that was the case, simply brought more questions. Hiding because they should not be here? Did not want to be found? Because they were afraid, and thought he would attack? Because they were cautious? Or had simply gone away for a bit and would return in time...
Clyde didn't see any signs of a great number of people being in the camp, but with his limited wilderness survival and tracking skills, he was hard pressed to tell how accurate that assumption was.
He checked the grass, and the dirt, the underbrush, but didn't see anything he could see clearly marked passage or number of those to pass.
Along with the tent and fire was an owl, resting atop the tent. Clyde first thought was a pet, perhaps left to guard the camp. Or perhaps a pet simply left behind.
Or, Clyde thought to himself, a kelvic. He couldn't be sure if the bird was one or not, but he'd rather bear in the side of caution. Any fowl or beast could be a kelvic in disguise. Who knew what kind of spies the knighthood used, and for what purposes? Who knew what information they tried to gather in a stealthy manner, while showing their kind face.
He wasn't sure, but he knew it could be done, and so didn't tempt the thought of being complacent.
Clyde walked about the camp, looking at the items and things in various spots. As he walked, he spoke to Rye in a neutral voice. Not loud or shouted, but spoken clearly. It could as easily be a speech given to the dog, as to a person hiding nearby, or the bird on the tent. Any would likely hear, and Clyde purposely left his words vague and without direction so it wouldn't be clear his intent.
“Well then, lets look about this camp, and see what we find. Perhaps something interesting will come up. Or perhaps someone will come out and greet me. Who knows.”
If he finished searching the camp, and was not met, he would continue on and look within the tent, not going completely inside, but looking about at its contents and seeing what was within. All the while as he walked he would keep his awareness and his eyes on the bird, while occasionally looking to the outskirts of the clearing.
If he didn't yet meet anyone, he'd finish his search of the tent, make a loop about it once, and then come to rest next to the fire, facing in between the fire and the tent.
Should Clyde find a set of clothes, as if taken off and then their owners having run off into the woods naked, that would tell him something else also, and likely show further evidence for some thoughts.
If he should do all of this and still not be met, he would let out a sigh, and continue on talking in the same fashion as before, as Rye still continued to let out his low growl, now facing towards the bird on the tent.
“Well, I suppose we'll just sit here and wait, till someone comes back and decides to greet us. After all, I wouldn't want there things taken, and should I leave it some other less scrupulous person might come by and take something. Yes, I suppose I'll just wait here.”
