Welcome to the Q & A Thread. As the title states, this is where we can sort out all of the inconsistencies, discrepancies and insufficiencies in the current lore. Please note that the list will change and grow as time goes on. The more questions that are asked then obviously the more answers we will have. Likewise, as this information is plugged back into its appropriate place in the lore, the list will shrink. Please stop back often to see what's new.

Avanthal Q & A

Q: What sort of tree cover is there in Avanthal?
A: The lore conflicts but the truth is that there are very few trees in the frozen city. Frostfawn Hold is built among a small, sparce forest but not large enough or plentiful enough to sustain true wildlife. The forest is just big enough so that the Hold members can create a faux habitat for their animal friends.

Q: There are no trade routes in the lore for Avanthal. Who do they trade with and how?
A: Avanthal trade with Wind Reach and Lhavit. Most of it is by sea since the bay is too large for wind eagles to fly across.

Q:
A:

More to come.

Avanthal Q & A

Postby Shimoje on May 29th, 2016, 2:28 am

Moreso some stuff I have found and have questions on, but not all are exactly questions - more statements. I am sure I can find more.

• Buildings in the city of Avanthal are portrayed wooden in nature, but we all know that ice reaving is used to make the halls and buidings.
• There are no descriptions of how large the rooms are or a description providing layout of how the halls are constructed.
• The God Rhaus is listed as a following for Vantha, but the lore inside of the city and the threads have no information regarding him.
• There are no listed sea trade routes between Avanthal and other port cities. To include there are no direct roads leading out or into Avanthal, which begs to question how do people find the city and trade with it?
• While being highly religious and having Morwen as a protector and goddess who views Vantha as her Children and the coming of age ceremony being the point at which her children are marked with her gnosis, there is no information regarding to how the ceremony is performed, and how children harsh the rigid temperatures before the coming of age ceremony.
• Marriages among Vantha contradict themselves. It says that they are not designed around love but around functionality and that spouses are not faithful to eachother. It then says that marriage is sacred and shouldn’t be disrespected saying its born of practicality and usefulness to build stronger holds and that love is believed to grow. So if marriages take place to grow holds stronger, they would want the marriages to take place within their own holds, right? So do the females marry into the males household or vice versa? This topic isn’t discussed.
• It is said that Morwen knows secrets to domesticate polarbears, but the lore discusses that Kelvics are used.
• Why are there no areas outside of Avanthal? Hunting in Avanthal requires a cartographer, botanist, doctor, or veterinarian. Area’s outside change and there is animal migrations. As such Botanists have created shelter rings along the landscapes for shelter. In the north where winds are too strong trenches were dug. I know northern ice to be harder than southern personally, but that is fine. Glowing stone are also utilized to mark spots outside of Avanthal – They could be seen from many Km away. As such shouldn’t places be given names for PCs to travel and hunt to?
• One can gather the basics of life by doing jobs in their hold. If this is such, as long as you post for job threads are you allowed to veto the costs of living as well?
• The NPCs have skills lists, but not their levels. This makes it hard to realize exactly how to train from NPCs. Ones of similar holds would see a lot of each other, and their interactions between each other as they are growing would impact what they learn and how. I believe that numbers should be added so that others can utilize the NPCs more openly
• Hours of light. Being this is in the north there would probably only be a few hours of actual daylight. As this is said fire would need to be a light source as the Vantha don’t possess any forms of seeing well in the dark that is annotated. This would imply that other resources either than just ice is used to construct some of their building which might require an un-meltable, unburnable resource.
Shortly after departure of the Tipsy Wench, a deeply held secret started to show itself as Shimoje's mental stability started to become more clear. His hand will bear the mark of Lykata and glow with a symbol of Lormar.

Avanthal Q & A

Shim:

In the Vantha Race Lore:
most Vantha receive a mark from Morwen when they come of age. Morwen's gnosis

In the Ice Reaving Gnosis Lore:
Most Vantha are birthed, if they are born in their homeland, with a mark already etched in their skin from Morwen

So that is one contradiction. Is it at birth, or is it during a Coming Of Age Ceremony?

I agree that its strange how it says that marriages "are not designed around love but around functionality and that spouses are not faithful" but then that they are "sacred". That seems very contradicting in itself, isn't cheating the exact opposite of keeping something sacred?
However my main comment on this issue Shim is you wonder why they would marry out of their Hold is they want to make their Hold stronger. I think I have an answer to that. I'll use Junco's Sister-in-Law, Aumber, as an example. Aumber married into the Frostfawn Hold from the Whitevine Hold. With her she brought some medicinal skills and now uses those skills in her occupation of Animal Doctor. So now if an animal is hurt in either a minor or major way the animal does not need to go to the Whitevine Hold for help, as they probably dont know much about animals to start with. Aumber holds knowledge from both Whitevine and Frostfawn to succeed at her job. I think this is what it means when in marriage they look for ways to make their Hold stronger. It means that every Hold needs each other in one way or another, so in bringing in others it rounds out their skills a little.

It is said that Morwen knows secrets to domesticate polarbears, but the lore discusses that Kelvics are used.

In the Icewatch Lore within the Player Information Forum
These mounts are all Dire Polar bears due to that fact that Morwen knows the secret to choosing Kelvic species.

In the Hunting Lore within the Player Information Forum
Morwen, it is said, knows the secret to having them breed true so that her famous Icewatch have bonded mounts that make a formidable force in defending the city.

What I gather is that the 'Dire Polar Bears' are ALL Kelvics and that Morwen knows not how to 'domesticate' them but how to breed two Dire Polar Bear Kelvics together to ensure an offspring that is also a Dire Polar Bear rather than it being any kind of animal as Kelvics dont inherit their parents specific animal form, just the animal form part.

How does Morwen specifically travel across Mizahar to spread the cold of winter to other regions?

Avanthal Q & A

All the Holds are made of wood. If they were created by Ice Reavers it would require a massive effort to keep them maintained and warm without them melting. Remember children don't have marks, and most Vantha only have one do they aren't immune too cold. The Vantha used all the big wood and imported what they didn't have to create their Holds. That's why there aren't more.
