Fois (Seleer)

Basic Information

Race: Inarta
Birthday & Age : Winter, 489 AV; 21
Gender: Male

Physical Description

Fois stands at 5’10” and weighs around 175 lbs, thus equipped with a relatively tall and fairly athletic body. He has nearly shoulder length auburn hair that he wears loose except for a single small braid wrapped around with blue cloth that he wears on the right side. On the left ear Fois wears an earring, decorated with a blue glass bead. His eyes are also blue, for that matter.

Character Concept

Fois is somewhat more reserved than your average Inarta, though he is quick to show amusement or anger. He is not too keen on showing emotions that he believes makes him look vulnerable (e.g. fear or sadness) to people and usually disguises them with humor or irritation. Fois is more open to Seleer (his Wind Eagle), his birds or when by himself.
He deeply loves and respects birds, and the birds usually respond in a similar manner. From early childhood he spent a lot of time around them and developed a talent and skill for falconry. Fois likes bird more than people, and even values life of these creatures more than that of his fellow Inarta (not to mention outsiders), but he keeps that part to himself.
Despite his reservations and great (even by Inarta standards) fondness to birds, he fits in well into party of people, be it for jokes, entertainment or serious conversations.
Fois is a firm believer of caste system in Wind Reach. However, he does treat Avora as near equals (unless angered or for some other reason), since according to his own philosophy Endal are the most talented and important type of Avora. Fois expects absolute respect from those below the Avora and would not appreciate them even cracking a smile at one of his self-depreciating jokes, though he is more forgiving for the younger Yasi. Also, he detests Endal or Avora engaging in close relationships (even if just purely physical) with the Dek or Chiet (even though, he himself comes from such union).
Fois is also somewhat of a hypocrite, so various standards that he has set for others need not to apply to himself.

Character History

Fois is a twin son of Kevi (Rapon), an Endal, and Sala, a Chiet. His father died hunting before Fois was born, so until 8 years old, his brother and himself were brought up by their mother. It was his mother who introduced Fois to falconry. She didn’t have much to teach, and young boy was quickly left feed his curiosity of the subject on his own. He spent a great deal of his time around falconers, watching them and learning from them. Older falconers liked the Yasi and one of them even gifted a raven fledgling to Fois, when he was 9 years old. Fois named it Rapon, after his father’s Wind Eagle. Even though for the first few years the raven stayed at the falconer’s place, it was Fois’s, and the Yasi had to go there all the time (outside classes and bendi) to be with and look after the bird.

His talent for Falconry has been noticed buy the best of Avora, who were interested in offering Fois an apprenticeship. It was the youthmaster, however, who thought that Fois should try his flair for birds on bonding with a Wind Eagle at least once, before accepting an apprenticeship. The youthmaster had a particular, fairly arrogant Wind Eagle in mind. Fois did so, and in over a period of few months he managed to win over favoritism of the proud bird, becoming an Endal.

From then on Fois has been performing his duties as a rider. As common among Inarta, he had an arm and an eye for a bow and was promising hunter. Carrying on his responsibilities provided sense fulfillment and riding Seleer was a source of immense joy, however, his true passion remained falconry.

Even though Fois took great care of his raven Rapon, in late summer of 510 AV the bird caught some kind of disease that neither Fois, nor any falconers could identify or find a cure for. Rapon passed away that autumn. The event caused Fois great deal of pain and sorrow, much more than when his brother went missing (most likely fell of the cliff) when he was 12.

Fois (Seleer)

Seleer

Image

Age: 12

Appearance: An average sized Wind Eagle that appears fairly sturdy. Seleer is dark brown except for his head and primaries which are in a bit lighter tone of brown. Has a small scar across the beak.

Physical attributes: Seleer is not as strong as he appears to be, however, he is quite much faster than an average Wind Eagle.

Seleer feels vastly superior to lower caste Inarta and non-Inarta, and also to the rest of the Inarta but to a lesser degree. He has a sense of humour and is quite snarky. Seleer is quick to make snide remarks towards Fois, though over the years they have been having increasingly more humour than sneer behind them. Apart from his humour, snideness and sarcasm, he is quite reserved and down to earth (figuratively speaking). And despite his sense of superiority to Inarta, Seleer has a strong sense of duty to the community and is fast to bring back Fois from his daydreaming or babbling about travelling places outside of Wind Reach. Seleer can also become quite jealous if Fois start showing a lot of attention to other birds and a bit less to him.

Fois and Seleer treat each other with mutual respect, which often takes form of making jokes at each other’s expense. Seleer does feel superior to Fois and has made it clear to him. Fois respects this attitude and in exchange the Wind Eagle supresses this feeling and doesn’t openly show it unless angered or in a joke form. To outsiders, thus, it looks as Fois and Seleer are complete equals, and Fois is the closest there is to equal to Seleer that there is among Inarta. Seleer’s refusal to participate in “absurd” dream sharing often leads to Fois confiding his more secret dreams to other birds (which is more of a one way conversation). However, these two often engage in ordinary conversations or “more realistic” dreams and wishes (e.g. the end of winter). Seleer is also always there to offer Fois advice or to remind him of his responsibilities and instil him with the sense of duty to the community.

Bonding: Fois always had great passion, love and respect to birds. And birds tended to repay him the same. As a Yasi he was a talented falconer and was considered to be taken as an apprentice by a few Avora. However, before that Duvin Kakiv, the youthmaster, decided to let Fois move in with a Wind Eagle that was really taking his time to bond with an Inarta. Fois took up this opportunity with excitement and moved into Seleer’s aerie. For the first couple of days, Seleer refused to acknowledge the new arrival and only interacted at all with a couple of Chiet who have been staying in the aerie for quite a while now. Over the coming weeks, however, Seleer took notice of the Yasi and started increasingly paying attention to him. After about a month the Wind Eagle finally spoke to Fois. The hopefuls who had been staying there longer than Fois and hadn’t been paid such privilege took this as a sign that it was time to move on. From then on only Fois and the two Chiet remained in the aerie. Over time Seleer grew to favour Fois over the other two, although even he himself couldn’t actually pin point what he likes about the Yasi so much. As days and weeks passed, the Wind Eagle was barely interacting with the Chiet at all. At one particular night as Fois was talking to Seleer, the bird interrupted him and spoke: “You are not a Yasi. You are an Endal. From today onwards, we will both be carrying this burden of responsibility.”
