Draw Ronan, draw Ronan! *puppy dog eyes*

[Cascade's Scrapbook] About Anything

Just thought I'd get this off my chest...

Is it just me who dislikes it when someone is purposely mean? I don't want to be a hypocrite. Just like everyone else, I have my moments too, and I have my fair share of meanness... but it's not like I tell myself, 'hey, this person is kinda idiotic, time to take some time off my life to let him know how much he lacks intellect'. When I make snide remarks, I usually don't even realize I'm doing it, and I appreciate it when people tell me I'm being unnecessarily mean (that said, I miss Eru, where is she?).

However, what does irk me is when someone says things just for spite, just to make someone else feel dim. It's mean, it's unnecessary, and despite everything, it doesn't actually make you look any smarter. Case in point is that recently I saw a friend having an argument with someone else, and this someone else was wrong, and this someone else didn't just want to admit it. It was a stupid argument. What happened afterwards? This someone else chose to nitpick on other unrelated matters that he was previously not interested in just to pinpoint the mistakes of said friend.

Pointing out mistakes isn't wrong. It's actually helpful. Doing it just to make yourself look smart, though...?

Thus ends my first ever Mizahar rant. I'm not trying to target anyone in particular, and I'm not trying to step on any toes... to be honest, I don't even remember the name of the person I'm referring to. Also, it doesn't apply only to the site. I see this almost every day IRL, and I am constantly wondering why people have the constant need to appear superior.

Just remember that those who feel the need to seem the most superior also feel the most insecure.

[Cascade's Scrapbook] About Anything

*hugs Cassy*

It's basically Alpha Dog mentality. The big dog gets the biggest piece of meat. Just like how the rich and powerful people in this country get all the best, most expensive luxuries in life.

Psychologically, that same mindset of 'if I'm on top, I win and get the rewards,' applies all the way down to the simplest interactions. People want the rewards that come with being King of the Hill, whether those rewards be the big promotion at work, the bigger TV, or just the pride of "I'm right and you're wrong". That communication reward valence motivates people even if they aren't aware of it. This method of communication gives the person a positive, superior feeling. So they keep doing it to feel better about themselves.

That doesn't make it 'right,' but there IS psychology behind it.

Basically, like Phoenix said, it all points to insecurities. Interesting.

Min talked about being on top ...

Sorry. Had to be funny for a moment there.

Putting people down always ends up pulling both people down instead of making anyone feel better, but usually the insulting person doesn't really know any better to notice. It's sad, but don't let it get to you. It only makes those kind of people more than just self destructive when you do.
