The Watchtower changes to blue and Morwen leaves the city to spread Winter to the rest of Mizahar. With the winter goddess away, the weather has lightened around Avanthal and the city is slightly warmer. The city will remain frozen however, there will just be less snow storms and the cold will be slightly less frigid (so say 10 degrees F instead of -5 F). This has caused dangerous breaks in the ice frozen over the sea so fishing and certain hunting expeditions will have to be undertaken with considerably more care.
A rash of crimes breaks out mere days following Morwen’s absence and Icewatch is spread thin yet again. All during the season of Fall tension built between members of the various Holds, much rumbling ensued after the disaster and cleanup of the city following the Djed Storm of Spring, 512. Some felt that perhaps things had remained unfairly equal between the Holds for too long and with Morwen gone they see an opportunity to further their personal goals. Who these people exactly are however, remains a mystery. All that is known is that thefts, altercations, and sabotage both petty and serious have sharply risen for unknown reasons. Icewatch is unsure how to go about punishing crimes or even discovering the culprits as a hundred different fingers are pointed in as many directions and any citizen in Avanthal can be implicated for some crime or another.
With the line of crimes scattered throughout the city, the Icewatch must seek new ways to keep an eye out. There seems to be no evidence to be found at the scenes and witnesses are few in number. Much to the dismay of many citizens, the Icewatch once again gather up the mages in the city. Secret goings on are happening and the city is left in the dark as the Icewatch work with the mages. Rumors spread whether the mages are behind the crimes in retaliation for the earlier treatment or whether they are an asset to the city in this time of crisis.
Toward the middle of the season a string of murders shocks the city and plunges the citizens into a fearful hush. Everyone begins to question their neighbors and wonder if the city will ever be a safe home again. The death of Gensen Iceglaze and Kayin Frostfawn leave everyone wondering who will pick up the leadership in their stead and help lead the city out of its crisis. The shock is intensified when Layota Snowsong is arrested by the Icewatch in connection with the murders.
Jedara Whitevine temporarily steps down from her Icewatch duties to mourn the loss of her husband and hundreds of citizens lend their time and compassion to support her during her period of bereavement. The loss of leadership leads to confusion in Icewatch and Jaerith has stepped up to fill Jedara’s position while she is away.
Everyone in the city begins to feel as though they must look out for themselves and daily interactions become colder and more guarded. Parents are more protective of their children and rarely let them out of their sight. Many citizens wonder what the rest of the season will have in store.
The threat presented by wildlife in the previous season has been investigated though not alleviated. Armed with their knowledge of events Icewatch feels more confident about dealing with the problem and reopens the Icewall Gates to grant citizens access to the surrounding tundra. All citizens are warned to not venture too far from the city unless with a heavily armed and experienced party.
More events will be revealed with time…..
