SRQ:The Better Side of Learning Caution (Chev/Syl/Zelt)

Gods above, Rayes hated being late.

Of course, he hadn’t been formally told that this meeting was occuring, so whether or not he was late was debatable.

Nevertheless, he had been recognized as a member of the traveling party and had been let in, earning a pitying glance and a quick summary of what was happening. Sparing a thankful nod to the fellow that had supplied him with such information, Rayes slipped into the meeting room that just so happened to be completely back.

Someone was speaking, and as he settled comfortably into a spot he realized that it was that blue bigot of a Knight that had been giving sermons for the entirety of the trip. The brawler bit his tongue to keep from snickering as Imass concluded his stirring speech. He didn’t like Knights, not at all, but now he was experiencing the truth of “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Just a year away from Syliras and he had found himself missing them in a strange way, the way you’d miss that annoying goose that always chased you if you got too close. Never really loved, but it made funny noises.

Then the moonchild stepped forward, and Rayes’ amusement fell quiet. He had often been told that this ethereal being was a Knight, but found it just a bit difficult to believe. He bore none of the righteous arrogance of most Knights, instead bearing a cool intelligence that was in odd contrast to the rest of the room. His counsel was sound, if a bit bland.

Another young Knight seemed to have to same idea, and Rayes nearly pissed himself trying not to laugh.

When Markus finished, the Captain’s reply did something to return a measure of calm to the pale man in the back.

Eridanus nodded in acceptance, and Rayes took the moment to step through the herd of people.

“I guess if things go wrong, I might just be a bit useful,” he said, cockiness not quite gone, but muted. “I can do just about anything you need me to, so I reckon I’m volunteering to go along.”

SRQ:The Better Side of Learning Caution (Chev/Syl/Zelt)

Ser Imass listened intently as the others had their say. Lord Eridanus said his piece immediately after the Knight. The Akalak listened as the Son of Leth explained his point was great detail; defining terms and going through each point of reasoning. The Knight trusted and respected Eridanus, but he felt the scholar beat around the bush sometimes. All Imass got out of Eridanus' speech was that it was their duty to use diplomacy first in Sahova. Despite his use of scholarly words, Imass didn't mind. In the end, Eridanus was against slavery and was all up for an assault on the boats.

The Knight shook his head in disapproval at most of Eridanus' speech, but gave him a curt nod at the end when he mentioned taking out the ship and freeing the slaves. Imass chuckled slightly and said to himself, "Eridanus, you want to take all the glory for yourself? You won't invite a fellow brother to fight alongside you?"

Ser Markus Andres responded loudly before Imass could say his thoughts any louder. He rebuked Lord Eridanus and basically called him insubordinate. Not only did he rebuke the Eth, but he had brought up some valid points. Eridanus did seem to be talking about gold and economy, not duty. Perhaps Eridanus was more interested in wealth? Imass couldn't know for sure, plus he wasn't ready to consider Lord Eridanus unreliable just yet. Eridanus had acted in great honor the whole journey. Although Imass had a lot more faith in Eridanus than Markus, he could not completely ignore his Knightly comrade's opinion.

Perhaps Eridanus was just misunderstood? Perhaps he was not articulating correctly? Regarldess, Imass would confront him about it in the future.

His buddy Ser Markus continued on with his thoughts saying that he more or less agreed with the Akalak; however it seemed to Imass that his friend was hesitant to take any great risks. Ser Markus was a warrior at heart. Imass knew this from sparring with him, but the former Zeltivan did not have as much faith in the impossible like Imass. He was more down to earth like his captains, despite being young and hot blooded.

After Ser Markus said his piece, the room fell silent. Even Ser Imass did not want to speak up just yet. The officers gave each other uneasy looks, and then Captain Stalinsa stepped up and made some decisions. He talked about how perspective changed all decision making, and then went directly to rebuke Ser Imass. She did not trust him with responsibility at all. The words were like a flaming dagger to his chest. It hurt and silenced the Knight, but they also sparked the righteous flames of aggression in his heart. He was feeling waves of frustration go through his back and face. He just wanted to lash out, but he held himself back.

Without a word, he turned around and walked out of the hall. He kept his chin up and his chest out, for he still would have his dignity despite being removed from the meeting. He felt like he got slapped in the face, but he did not show that emotion in his face. Instead, he frowned immediately in anger and became extra grim, just like his father. Walking out with loud footsteps, he heard faintly Captain Stalinsa resume once he was at the door. Looking over his shoulder once again, he inhaled deeply and felt the emotions of anger and frustration filled his body.

They did not understand. They thought him to be weak and green simply because of his rank. Had they forgotten was a professional Warrior from Riverfall? He was a most honorable Knight and dutiful, however his violent dark side would not let his zealous side forgive such insults. Ser Imass stood with his back to the door and his hands over his ears. His personalities fought in his mind and built a furious fire of righteous fury. He was prideful and hated when people didn't respect him. Despite all this he would say nothing. He respected the hierarchy and in the end, just as Markus had said, their plan was sound.

Ser Imass grinded his teeth in frustration for a moment longer than began to stride away...

Additional Notes :
Phew! Only two pages but a lot going on here, guys. I liked the complexity and sweeping scale of this thread, though I haven't checked to see if the assault/diplomacy came to anything. The marked contrast between all of you was very well-done, and as far as spelling and grammar went, all flawless.
