"So, where to now?"

The words had startled Kane enough to cause him to jump, having secluded himself deeply inside his mind, his eyes only passively observing the urban landscape as the mental gears turned. He'd been sitting out here for a short while, his fingers slowly drawing across the grimy stubble on his cheeks, having neither shaved nor bathed for at least four days, the action having caused his mind's path to change its track yet again. Though as it was all over now, Kane looked to Maya, who'd placed her hands on her hips, who seemed to be almost beaming with pride, and Kane, though far from the smartest man in Mizahar, could still put two and two together. "Hmm..." Kane, having not expected her to really want to see him, hadn't much planned on any such action, "Well, I'm a bit short on Mizas..." Pausing for a moment, Kane considered his words, weighing their consequence, "Though I can spare a few for the newest glass-smith in Syliras. Where would you like to go?"

Smiling as he finished, Kane thought on the matter; it was quite odd to be offering someone money, considering one he barely knew at that, though he'd never really 'celebrated' anything, rather just commemorated something. Celebrating was a joyous thing, something that probably wouldn't be so bad to experience.

"Spare? Mizas?" asked Maya. She just got her job, and he wanted to pay? "Do not worry yourself, I have plenty to spare, and besides, I now have an income!" Grinning proudly, she ponders for a moment, idly fidgeting with the small glass navel ring she wore.

"Perhaps a round of drinks? I haven't had a good malt in a while. That is, if you drink." She said, once more grinning. She waits for Kane's answer, and for him to get up.

"Do not worry yourself, I have plenty to spare, and besides, I now have an income!" Her generosity was not lost on Kane, though it did strike him as odd that one such as her would be willing to share. Allowing a smirk to creep onto his face, Kane looked to her as a slight lull in the conversation presented itself, though soon enough she killed it off, her face split wide with a toothy grin, "Perhaps a round of drinks? I haven't had a good malt in a while. That is, if you drink." Looking down to the ground before he rose to his feet, left hand still guiding his blade's scabbard, he soon stood over her,

"Of course. Anywhere in particular you had in mind?"

"Of course. Anywhere in particular you had in mind?"

Maya blushes, looking up at Kane. "I only just arrived yesterday, Kane, you know that." She sighed, idly picking lint from her Bryda. Perhaps she should find a shop or stall with a map of Syliras for sale. "Besides, I'm not exactly the person to look to for information on the quality of liquor. Do you know any place that's good, but... Well, cheap?" She didn't want to appear stingy, but her coin purse did have a limit to how much she could take out of it.

Looking around her, she remembers Leena fired that kid on the spot. What is she going to do about the rest of the day? She wondered. Probably just close up shop and work on any out-standing orders. That's what I would have done. Thinking of the shop once more, Maya suddenly smiles. [i]I have a job! Well on my way to becoming.... Becoming what?[i] Maya arrived in Syliras with no plan, no prospects, no dreams... Was she just going to work until she died? Standing outside of a shop, in front of a bench, was perhaps not the best place to think of such matters. Instead, she looked forward to wherever Kane would send them.

"I only just arrived yesterday, Kane, you know that." In truth his mind had discarded that fact, instead opting to offer the choice to her, Kane already begun to wander on the matter, thinking on just where he might go to find a beverage or two, "Besides, I'm not exactly the person to look to for information on the quality of liquor. Do you know any place that's good, but... Well, cheap?" Cheap? Well, this already seems to be my line of expertise... Kane allowed his thoughts to drift, while he had encountered several taverns and other locales, he'd paid them little heed, having much more important matters on the mind at the time, though he did recall the other day, when he'd met John... the talk of a Rearing Stallion? Perhaps that would be a suitable place, besides, he still had to find the place to meet with John later. Rather not thinking on the matter before speaking, Kane's lips moved before his mind,

"I think I know of a place..." Motioning with his right hand for Maya to follow, Kane started down the street, the Castle seeming to be leading him in the direction of choice. The journey was long, relatively speaking, though they soon enough arrived at the Rearing Stallion, no thanks to Kane's lack of both dialogue and knowledge of Syliras' geography. Standing only but an arm's length from the door, Kane looked to Maya briefly before opening the thick set piece, which swung surprisingly well on its hinges. Speaking with his eyes and not his voice, he subtly announced their arrival at the destination in question, the spartan sign that found itself over Kane's figure bearing the crest of the stallion, and read, 'Tavern'. Not terribly creative or original, but if the place deserved the reputation bestowed upon them by the number of patrons within, they didn't need to be.

"I think I know of a place..." He said, motioning for her to follow.

Maya walked along silently, following Kane. They seemed to be heading in the general direction of the castle, so she assumed he knew the way. Since becoming better acquainted with him, the little voice in her head seemed to have quieted down.

Eventually, Kane opened a heavy-looking door, and Maya assumed they arrived. There was a simple sign hanging above the door, with a stallion and the words, 'Tavern'. Well, isn't this just the place you were looking for. Perfect! It's probably abandoned, and he- She glanced inside, seeing that in fact the place was not as empty as she was scared it would be. In fact, it seemed almost every table had at least two people seated at it, creating the illusion of fullness. She spotted two empty stools at the far end of the counter, and nodded, thanking Kane for opening the door. She weaved her way through the tables, then took a seat at the one that was not all the way at the end.

Following Maya's initiative, Kane followed her footsteps, managing to negotiate the maze of tables and patrons without disturbing anyone, despite a close call with his scabbard and a particular mug that was much too close to the table's edge. Eventually he arrived where she'd intended, two empty stools at the end of the counter, and after she took the one she preferred, Kane took his own, the last on the bar. The seat wouldn't of been his first choice, of course, but there were bigger and much more important matters at hand; like the offer of a round. Allowing his weight to shift onto the stool, Kane leaned forward, propping his elbows against the edge of the bar, thinking all the while. His thoughts drifted, mostly to just what to say, having already found himself in another position he didn't really favor, at least not socially. Failing to find any topic on which to speak but the one at hand, looking to Maya as he asked, "Just what are you going to do at the glassworks?"

Both Maya and Kane managed to work their way to the counter. She motioned for the tavern-keep to make his way over to where they were sitting.

"Just what are you going to do at the glassworks?" Came Kane's inquiry. Maya's enthusiasm dimmed just a bit, as she remembered she wouldn't actually do any glass work for a while.

"Work glass, of course," She joked, laughing. "Though truthfully, Leena seems a bit on the cautious side. From now, all I will do is take orders. She wants me to write in Common. I don't see why I can't write in Nari, and then translate it for her, but hey, whatever she wants. She's the one paying me." Making conversation with Kane seemed to be getting easier as she spent more time with him.

She looks up to the bartender, who was standing there impatiently, waiting for them to order. "A gallon Ale, and two mugs," She said, taking two silver Miza out of her purse and flipping them towards him. They landed on the counter with a chink and he picked them up, going to fulfill her order.

"So, what about you? What would you do as a Knight?"

Kane listened as she spoke, often times allowing his gaze to flow from object to object, rarely ever staying fixed on Maya. He didn't mean to be rude, he just could look at the same thing for a length of time, one could say it allowed a sense of boredom to set in, though he was happy to hear that she'd gotten a job, even if she wasn't going to be a glasssmith just yet. Such things took time, he figured, he wanted to be a knight though it would be a while before he got the chance to hold the title, though his thoughts came to an abrupt halt as she ordered the drink for the time being, a whole gallon of ale. Such a purchase undoubtedly influenced Kane's opinion of her, though he should've expected such, considering her restrictive budget, though soon enough she'd returned a question to him, "So, what about you? What would you do as a Knight?"

"Well..." It was a thought that Kane had given little heed to, the situation, as he saw it, was to be dealt with when it came. "It depends really. The first thing I'd do would probably wind up going on tome kind of quest or another, though I'd still be a squire at that point..." Trailing off as he thought, he affixed his stare on the edge of the counter opposite from him, "Depends. Don't know if I would stay around here or not once I become a knight... I mean, there's not really much need for a knight in Syliras, is there?"

It seemed to Maya that Kane didn't give being knight much thought. No doubt he thought he would 'cross that bridge when he came to it'. Although, to be fair, Knighthood was much more complicated than glassblowing, in principle, rather than technique, for Maya knew how difficult glassblowing actually was.

"... I mean, there's not really much need for a knight in Syliras, is there?"

"Not much need?" She asked. "But the Knights are here to keep order, aren't they? Do patrols and investigate crimes, among other knightly duties." As she said this, she realized that the Knights already in the city have that under control. Stupid... Look like a fool, eh? Always a good way to strengthen a relationship. By this time, the bartender had returned with a large clay pitcher filled to the brim with a frothy brown liquid, and in his other hand two earthenware mugs, hung precariously on his digits by their handles. These he sets down, assuming one for Maya and the other for Kane, and pours the first round. Maya, feeling generous, tosses him another silver Miza, which he snatches from the air, nods at her, and then walks away to serve another customer.

"Cheers," She says, holding out her mug.
