[The Great Bazaar] Accidents Happen

Postby Tichi on November 20th, 2013, 12:02 am

Tichi paused at the very end of the bazaar. Her client, a tall woman who decorated clay pots (among other things) and sold them, was busy with a customer at the moment.

Tichi waited for Bolivar to catch up, her eyes sparkling. Her wide smile faded a bit as she studied his expression. "Did I do something wrong? Or say something wrong? I'm still learning, like I said. Though I think I learn pretty fast for a Kelvic. Squirrels are smarter than a lot of people realize."

She shifted the box in her arms a bit as she waited for a response, hoping she hadn't messed up too badly.

So easy to give out who she was. As if he was suppose to give her special treatment at the news. If anything it would have the opposite effect. Still learning but forgetting moments later. It would be hard to treat the kelvic anything more then a second rate citizen. She was far too young to be doing these sort of things herself really.

"You've quite a ways to go if that's the case."

Sounding more like the babysitter of those he had met in Syliras then the voice of reason Bolivar looked back at the woman who had finished talking to her client. Looking back at the two pots confused she looked back at Tichi slightly miffed before looking back at the two pots.

"Don't you still have some explaining to do smart squirrel?"

Tichi resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at Bolivar. Instead she turned to her client. "Sorry about the two broken ones, I had an accident. Ran into him," she indicated Bolivar with a tilt of her head. "Literally. Are the others enough?"

The woman's frown deepened, and Tichi fidgeted. "I could go get two more to replace them. Right now. Out of my own pocket, of course, since I broke them...the potter had plenty of them."

Her client's face cleared, and the woman ran paint-stained fingers through gray-streaked hair with a sigh. "Ah, well then. I suppose that works." She gave Tichi a shrewd look, noting the worn clothing the girl wore. "Be more careful, child. Else you'll break something irreplaceable one day, and find that many people haven't my patience. Or else you'll find all your pay spent in replacing things."

Tichi nodded vigorously. "I'm always careful. It just - well, never mind."

The artist gave her a small smile. "I'll pay you when you come back with the rest. As long as I get them before end of day."

"You'll have them," Tichi promised, then moved away from the woman's stall a bit to be out of the way of customers. She turned to Bolivar and cocked her head, studying his face with a worried expression.

"Does that expression mean you're annoyed with me after all? Or maybe you don't like Kelvics? I can't help what I am..."

Bolivar watched the exchange between the two with mild interest before shrugging slightly. If Bolivar had known the client was a mere woman he wouldn't have given Tichi the extra assurance of his presence. His worry seemed unfounded by the mere acceptance on the peddler's part. Perhaps they could find trouble replacing the clay pots?

Ugh. Listen to yourself. Sounding like a hoodlum.

Rolling his eyes wondering where this sense of danger was coming from Bolivar looked back at the kelvic apologetically. A sharp intake of breathe followed as he drew back witheringly.

"At you? Hardly."

Raising an eyebrow at the wisdom of the kelvic's words. Bolivar shrugged as if to concede the point to Tichi.

"You were fine. Maybe be less vocal about it but you are fine by me so far. Anyways how exactly do you plan to replace those pots? Don't exactly have much time left until the day is over little miss."

Less vocal, well that wasn't exactly a surprise. Tichi was aware she talked too much, but it was hard to turn it off. Things went through her brain and straight out her mouth. Sometimes they seemed to bypass the brain part.

"My name's Tichi - what? Oh petch it, I didn't realize it was so late!" Tichi wailed. "I'll have to run. I'm sorry, I have to go and if you want to come along that's fine but you'll have to keep up with me and I'm sure this is really rude but I have to I'm sorry!"

The last few words were tossed over her shoulder as she took off, heading for the Maiden district at high speed and being very careful not to bump into anyone. Once was enough for the day, really.

Just like the wind she said her goodbyes and left leaving Bolivar with the woman. Looking towards where Tichi was running off to the squire ended up wondering why exactly the kelvic started that direction. Turning back to the woman Bolivar looked wonderingly before deciding to ask just in case.

"These pots are replaceable right?"

Listening for only a few tics left Bolivar wondering why Tichi started off in that direction when the Dyres District was in the opposite direction. Thanking the auntie Bolivar slowly made his way towards the open air markets in search of something relatively worthwhile. Hopefully Tichi would realize this and turn back without causing too much trouble.

Still the squire finding himself not too approving of the kelvic. For one so young to be working already? It didn't really suit him knowing that. Having barely seen any kelvics himself he wouldn't know how quick they were to understand but he doubted that Tichi had enough life experience to be working. Whomever was the parents of the kelvic didn't do right by her. Tichi was lucky to not have run into trouble thus far but how poorly would she fare when trouble rears it's head? Not well Bolivar would imagine.

Looking up to the sky the squire was reminded of how little, in fact, they had until the markets started closing. Awkward as it was Bolivar started jogging towards the Great Bazaar mentally cursing at the Tichi for making him look so foolish. Still to young to be addled with failure or trouble it was more for Bolivar's sake then hers. Seeing someone lose that sparkle of life and being able to do something to prevent it was the worse. At least for the squire who now found himself running despite his earlier objections.

Tichi suddenly realized she was going the wrong way and stopped in her tracks. She spun in a circle, suddenly confused. "Oh no," she moaned. "Why does this always happen when I'm upset?" She pulled at her hair in distress.

Within three chimes Bolivar made his way to the seller's market and within two more found himself an easy replacement for the two pots that looked similar enough to the ones Tichi showed him before. Decent timing seeing as the majority of the merchants were closing shop for the day. Quickly negotiating a price of a few silvers and some coppers Bolivar took the pots in tow before heading back to the woman from before. Waiting a few more chimes until the squirrel kelvic's return Bolivar could feel the curious gaze the woman gave him.

"What is she to you?"

"A stranger I bumped with along the way."

Bringing her lips together before raising a skeptical gaze still not quite convinced took the pots from the squire still wondering what angle the older man was playing at. Putting on a passive facade at the treatment Bolivar merely awaited Tichi's return before preparing his farewells.

"Listen well Tichi. I'll be at the Bittern District when the day starts and the day ends. If you run into any trouble delivering ask for my name I'll be sure to help when I can."

It felt like he was speaking to a child in all honesty but that did diminish his concern regarding the young kelvic. Seeing such a young soul already out and working was distressing in some ways. Hopefully everything panned out but the odds seemed stack against little miss's favor. Shaking his head all types concerned Bolivar gave a long suffering look at Tichi. His mouth gaped slightly but no words came out. It was awkward and Bolivar felt it out of place but he simply could not fully express his concern seeing the young kelvic.

"Well then. I'll be off then."

That was all this squire could do really. Training as a knight was the priority for a squire. Being savior for those in the city came after the back breaking work and deep reflection that nurtured a squire to knighthood. This was probably one of those moments. To find more drive to finish his apprenticeship and be better suited to help. The buying of the clay pots would have to suffice for now. Gripping his hands as he faced away from the scene Bolivar started towards the windmount district.

This city. This city that I chose is little better then Ravok in the problems the peasantry have but it is better enough. I have the power to contribute something more here than in Ravok or Sultros.

Perhaps that was the underlying reason Bolivar came to Syliras. The promise of the chance to do good. In any case Bolivar found himself more then motivated in his want to take the knight's challenge. No more excuses at least for today. Bolivar was going to conquer that horse and make it his own.

oocThat's me exit post. Feel free to post it for grading whenever. Request a point in politics and philosophy for me :)

Tichi blinked in surprise, quite speechless (an unusual concurrence, to be sure). She managed to get out a "Thank you" before Bolivar was gone, then just stood dumbfounded for awhile.

She knew not everyone was violent and mean like her father. But for someone to go out of his way to help a stranger like her? Tichi cocked her head and thought about that a bit. She finally concluded that there was more to people than she knew. A small smile spread across her face before she bounded away, heading off to her next task.

Guys, this thread has replies that are too short, I do advise to write longer. Try to do at least 400-500 words per reply at the minimum.

Bolivar, some of your replies are good while some are too short. I understand that you don't have much to work with Tichi's very short posts though. :) Also, helping people in the city is a commendable act and a must for squires and knights, good job!

Tichi, you don't have to do a "quote" tag to represent your thread partner's speech. You can simply describe them in your own words. Repeating what your partner said is fine sometimes, but when you did it too much, it made the reader felt like someone who lacks in mental faculty... in other words, stupid. :)

My radiance is not bright enough?
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your grade, beam me a PM and we can work it out. :)
