Nyxie nodded, almost sympathetically, though she was actually quite pleased to find a piece of the harlot’s puzzle: his mind and body were disconnected. Which most likely meant that an intimate relationship would need to forge the two together again.

Or at the very least, he probably hasn’t had anyone petch with his mind yet. **cough* The Inverted ;)

“Hm, fascinating,”she uttered, filled with captivation. Her cheeks stayed rosy, the color turning brighter as he described the variety of needs from his buyers. “So you claim to be able to unlock a customer’s deepest desires, and then satisfy them all… in just one night. Impressive. Must be tiring, though. Probably involves fair a bit of acting, at times.” Nyxie’s words were merely meant to give a voice to her train of thought. But she realized that she empathized with his aspiration to be better, in order to earn more mizas. “Yes, it sounds like a job well done would deserve a fairly high price.”The Svefra said it as if it was a matter-of-fact, with a lack of suggestive intonations, showing her respect for the value of his work.

She didn’t expect the mood to change so quickly. Nyxie gripped the chain, staring into the harlot’s eyes, now suddenly intense. The moment passed in a quick tick. She blinked, trying to work out what just happened. It was like she’d seen a glimpse of his second persona; the one he used to seduce and satiate. It was addicting. She wanted more.

The redhead’s lips curled upwards as he spoke of purity. Her voice dropped, infusing it with honeyed innocence,

“It is fitting. I’ve seen nothing impure about you yet, luv.”

And it was true. Matthew never mentioned anything that stood out to be immoral, by Nyxie’s standards. In fact, it seemed that the man was quite selfless with the way he conducted his work. He ensured complete satisfaction and pleasure for others, without deceit, betrayal, dishonesty, nor thoughtlessness.

But her statement wasn’t just a fact. It was also a subtle challenge. If the harlot meant to wear the necklace as a show of rebellion, then he’d have to prove it. He’d have to show her that he’s truly capable of all that he advertised.

The thought made Nyxie feel deliciously audacious. She tugged a tad harder on the chain, pulling him closer to her inviting lips. A sliver of space remained between them, the surrounding water growing warmer, her body only aching to feel the heat of his toned skin against hers. But they remained apart. Separated by an implicit perception of the other’s restraint. Blue eyes glazed over with pure lust as her mind whirled with a sudden flood of carnal fantasies.

…But the feelings were fleeting.

' Some people want the best physical experience they can possibly have. '

' If I want the best in life, I’d have to do the best I can. '

Nyxie let go of the chain. She slowly created a bit of distance between them, legs moving in wide circles beneath her.

Something inside her knew that she wouldn’t feel true pleasure if she couldn’t earn his desire. Buying him would take the fun out of it. Not to mention the loss of precious mizas. The Svefra was a petching cheapskate who’d rather steal than buy anything. Was he worth the price?

Or could she steal his heart?

Nyxie reached a hand up to hold onto the edge of the pier. She contemplated an answer to her reason for being here, wondering whether the truth would cause her any trouble. “My family and I are part of the Draer Dynasty in Kenash. We travel between coastal cities, trading goods grown on our plantation for mizas and… workers.” Saying ‘slaves’ in Syliras would certainly be problematic. “It’s true; I hate it here. The city is overcrowded and filthy. I’m actually heading out to sea tomorrow morning, so I won’t have to stand it any longer,” she smiled, but her eyes spoke differently. They seemed to lack the same gladness that her words tried to suggest.

“Oh, this?” Nyxie turned around, her back to the harlot, both hands holding onto the edge of wooden panels, pulling herself up to rest her elbows on the edge. Her body now dangled, half in the air and half in the water. Nyx figured it would help show off more of the mark. She looked over her shoulder, and smiled at his compliment, shivering slightly from the sudden exposure to the night’s cold air. “Thank you~ I’m a Svefra by birth, and all Svefra are granted with the mark of our divine father, Laviku: God of the sea,” blue eyes glimmered with delight, eager to explain. “The waves can migrate from my back to my hand, depending on whether or not I’m wearing clothing. It’s quite magical, really. It allows me to drink seawater, and control small sea creatures, along with a few other things.”

If Matthew looked closer, he’d notice the almost mesmerizing quality of the design. Touching it would result in a person realizing that the mark was slightly raised, as if the waves were filled with a colorful swirling fluid. Adding pressure to the fluid would move the colors around, making the design look indistinguishable from the movement of real waves.

Nyxie gave the harlot a quick wink. “Feel free to touch~”

In the distance behind Matthew, a grey fin appeared over the surface of the sea, far enough away to be unnoticed. But it was moving closer. Fast.

Fascinating? Well, he was glad to hear that, in a sense. It was nice to see that someone else shared his interest in the art. Well, she didn't exactly share it, she just seemed to understand his intellectual study of it. It wasn't like her approval was needed, he had long since learned that his way of doing things was a very different way of doing things. It was just nice to see that it made sense to someone else, he supposed. "Yes, there is some acting. I need to work on my acting, really. Perhaps I will join a traveling play at some point in the future. That'd be a bit of a career change instead of just training." He mused this over for a moment, blue eyes glittering as they grew distant. He was still patiently going through the motions of treading water though, his whole body on auto pilot as his mind continued to work at a speedy pace.

Nothing impure about him? He wasn't sure if that was good or bad. Was innocence or impurity more desirable? Perhaps a combination of the two, as her honeyed voice seemed to so teasingly hint at. He would need to take some time to sit down and work on that aspect of the whole process.

Ah, she was pulling him closer. He wasn't sure how to react. If she stole a kiss, wouldn't that be the exact same thing as stealing the product? One of the more troubling problems he had come across was how to effectively advertise his product without giving it away for free. He naturally advertised to some extent, letting his body seduce and tease as he had trained it to do. At the same time, that certainly encouraged people to move ahead even though not a single bit of coin had passed from hand to hand. He wasn't sure. Yet another thing that he would have to learn to define when it came to all of this. His body remained close but not touching, the sculpted definition having found the perfect distance where it could twitch and flex while still just barely not touching her.

Thankfully, she let go, saving him the trouble of having to figure out exactly how to handle everything. For being such a thoughtful and intellectual sort of man, sometimes he just thought about things a little too much.

He listened closely to her story. He was barely familiar with where she came from, and not at all familiar with the concept of a Dynasty. He nodded in understanding to the business though, seeing the profit and how it would be quite the thriving way of life. From what maps he had seen, the Suvan was perfect for that sort of trade. He nodded again at her confession to hating the place, having expected as much. How could a spirit as free and wild as the Svefra be consolidated and constrained to a place such as this? His attention was drawn back to her as she pulled herself up, exposing what little she had left on clinging wetly to curves, as well as bare flesh that was beautifully mark. Once again his boldness came into play, the young harlot not hesitating to slowly reach up a hand and lightly touch fingertips to the mark. He blinked a bit as he felt the unique texture of it, slowly trailing the barest of touches down the mark, though he didn't move to any place that was barred off by cloth.

"God of the Sea... Do you live in a house here in Syliras, or in a boat?" He hesitated for a moment, dropping his hand off of her back, his next question perhaps silly. How would he ever know unless he asked? "Or do you somehow live in the ocean? Though, you didn't say the mark granted you the ability to breathe underwater, so perhaps that was a silly question." He pondered it for a moment longer, not at all aware of the grey fin that was approaching. Instead he mused a moment longer, eyes glancing up and down her form quickly, his next words a bit out of left field. "You would likely make a good seductress. You seem to have experience, or it is just natural for you. Perhaps a combination of both. It was hard for me to learn, but I eventually seemed to figure it out."

Nyxie avoided the harlot’s eyes as she stifled a soft moan; his teasingly airy touches were nearly unbearable. Her longing for immediate satisfaction grew stronger, her hold on self control slowly starting to weaken. She couldn’t help it. He made her crave a feeling that she’d always been seeking. He had it, and she desired it.

But Nyx knew he wasn’t going to give in that easily. To him, his body was a product, not a prize. Outside of whatever goes on during a paid session, it seemed like he wouldn’t consider himself as something to be won over. He doesn’t have to be won over. Given the mizas, the harlot would go to work, with zero hesitations.

'Ugh. Maybe I should just pay him. '

The hand on her back dropped, breaking Nyxie’s train of thought. 'Do I live in the ocean?' The redhead chuckled as she plunged back into the water, resurfacing to face Matthew’s curious blue eyes.

“Oh gods, I’d love to live in the ocean. There’s a certain freedom at sea that you can’t get on land. Being a fish in Laviku’s tides would be a dream come true~ Alas, I have no such ability. But the next best thing would be to live on a ship, which is far better than a stationary house, in my opinion. My family and I live aboard my father’s casinor. It’s actually just a little under a mile away, docked with the rest of the merchant trading ships. But not for long. Next stop: the city of illusions.”Nyxie paused, remembering something that he’d mentioned earlier. “Which reminds me, I’ve seen a travelling play once, a couple years back. In Alvadas, actually. You should come by sometime.”

The Svefra didn’t expect such an abrupt tangent---brows raised in surprise at the sudden assertion,

“Seductress?” She smirked, not at all aware that he’d doubled her self-esteem. “Hm. I’m flattered~”Nyxie mused for a moment, allowing herself to wonder what Matthew might be implying. Was he trying to phrase his emotions objectively, by stating the compliment as an observation? There was no way she could tell if he meant that she’d succeeded in seducing him; he could just as easily be aware of her attempts, and not be affected by them. Nyx sighed, but a thoughtful smile complemented her response,

“I’d say it’s a combination of both. I’ve managed to catch the attention of a few men here and there, and I’ve certainly had my fair share of awkward encounters. Trial and error helped me figure out what works and what doesn’t. So far… I learned that confidence is key. And… a certain dash of audacity usually breaks a few boundaries,” an amused look crossed her face as she remembered all the times she’d dared to make the first move. Oddly enough, the redhead usually managed to get what she wanted without having to spend the night at a stranger’s home. For a moment she wondered if it’d be more profitable to sleep over. She could scrounge around the house for more to take. It was something Nyxie decided to consider for later.

Sudden doubts made the redhead tilt her head in thought. She brought her gaze back to Matt as she broke into a charmingly sly grin,

“Luv, if you’re not careful, a compliment like that could make an impressionable young girl easily fall for you. You’re an attractive, seductive, and clearly intelligent young man who says that they’re not looking for intimacy. Would you want to run the risk of having people misread your intentions?” She winked, “Try not to break any hearts on the job, kay~?”

A moment later, her bright blue eyes glittered with curious mischief as she swam closer to his submerged form,

“On the other hand…"If Matthew ever intended on having a little fun, his compliments could surely grant him whatever he wanted. Nyxie's curiosity got the best of her; although it was probably mixed in with a bit of manipulative reasoning. She knew the answer to her next question would grant her another piece of the puzzle,

"Have you ever had sex outside of work?”She fought to keep herself from grinning, trying to maintain a serious composure,“I mean, did you ever do it just to ‘petch around’ for your own pleasure? So… it’d be like having sex without intimacy, but you wouldn’t have to worry about a customer getting their miza’s worth.”

It’d be unadulterated fun~

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Nyxie flicked a glance behind Matthew as he spoke, catching a glimpse of the grey fin coming closer. She’d have to warn him. Although…

'Nah. This’ll be entertaining. '

Unadulterated Fun (Matthew)

His mind was starting to whir. He could feel the gears beginning to turn faster and faster, clicking and grinding as everything started to make sense. He was slow to get started with this craft, but once it was started he was able to see so much more. There was the way she averted her eyes, the way her cheeks had flushed earlier, the simple and subtle signs of her body. Some said seduction was purely instinctive. To Matthew, seduction was a fine science. His blue eyes tilted as she resurfaced before him, but the Svefra might notice that something was different. They weren't as dull as they had been earlier. There was motion behind them, thought. For the briefest of moments, there were dark promises from a man that was completely okay with having her in either the water or the pier, or even both. His eyes were the biggest advertisement of all. Give me the coin and learn what addiction really is.

But then there was that polite smile, a contrast of what was in his eyes. The seductive persona was just that, a persona that was finely crafted and controlled. He listened closely to her thoughts and ideas, nodding slowly at her words. "The idea of living on a ship sounds horrifying to me." Well, he was certainly honest. "The ocean terrifies me. Perhaps it is because there is so much that I simply can't see. Not that it stops me, I still plan on learning... it just makes me hesitate, sometimes." He glanced down at the waters as he swirled his legs, hands still firmly gripping the nearby edge of the pier. Alvadas, she had said? The name was familar, but he couldn't actually remember where it was or if it was even actually something he had heard of. He mused it over, then blinked as she smirked. Was she pleased that he had complimented her? He saw the world in black and white. He had thought she would make a good seductress, so he had simply stated it. She had all the correct qualities for it.

Ah, awkward encounters. He had ran into those as well. He had done quite a bit of study before he had actually attempted anything, but even then he had found that there was still much to learn. Seeing and doing were two very different things. He nodded though, noting a few of her words touched on concepts that he had learned. "A certain level of confidence is definitely a good thing. I have found that it works wonders, myself. I wouldn't exactly call myself confident, I am just not shy. I simply don't understand the whole idea of shy." The brief look of confusion in his eyes reflected his words. The blue windows were easily the most expressive thing about the young harlot.

Peering at her as she slyly teased him, he glanced off to the side and furrowed his brow. "Well, I am a bit of a harlot. Hopefully they understand the danger in falling in love with a man who can be bought for the right price. There are other complications with a man such as myself as well." He didn't really delve into it, though he wasn't trying to be mysterious. It was just simple logic to him. He was for sale, not for love. He didn't even really understand the concept of love. He had wondered if it was because he had never experienced it, but in the end he had realized it wasn't that at all. He understood it too well. Love, like every other emotion, was a science to him. It was a cold logic. Sticking love in the confines of a cold logical prison certainly dampened the flame.

Matthew blinked, back to the current topic at hand. The corners of her lips were twitching. Why were they doing that? He focused on them again, tilting his head like a curious puppy. "No, not for my own pleasure. I petched to practice when I was first starting out. There are certain things that have to be learned in the moment." He paused a moment, then glanced up into her eyes, his next words firm. "I don't worry about a customer getting their miza's worth. I know they will."

For claiming not to be confident, he certainly sounded arrogant. It was only the firm and professional tone that he used that could prevent it from being interpreted as so. He just had a firm belief in himself.

The grey fin still went un-noticed, even as it drew closer. For a man who seemed to be wary of the ocean, he sure wasn't very aware of it.

Unadulterated Fun (Matthew)

Nyxie idly played with a strand of hair while she listened to the harlot, carefully considering her options. In the handful of chimes that they’d spent together, Nyxie had taken a liking to his personality, simply knowing that he was someone she enjoyed talking to. She wanted to see him as a friend… but it grew increasingly difficult to see him as such. Especially in the midst of his teasingly subtle shows of sexual prowess. This aesthetically pleasing man seemed to hold the potential to satiate both her fiendish curiosities and hidden desires. How could she not see him as a means to an end?

If it weren’t for the fact that Nyxie took pride in her ability to get what she wanted for free, she figured they’d already be petching by now. The Svefra was only going to be here for another night. And she’d probably never see him again, right? Besides, the more time she spent trying to steal the product, the less time she’d have to enjoy it.

What a frustrating dilemma.

The Yahal necklace glinted in Leth’s light, catching Nyx’s attention for a brief moment. She quickly raised her gaze to avoid suspicion, as a plan started to develop behind her shrewd blue eyes.

If she had to spend money, she reckoned it’d be best to make a profit off of him first.

Nyxie looked off into the distance, kicking her legs in small circles, pretending to be deep in thought about her response while she sensed the creature get closer. The colors on her back started to shift as she attuned her awareness to connect with her friend. He was moving pretty fast; it seemed like he intended on protecting her. Judging by the distance, it would take another five or so chimes for him to create any trouble. She could tell him to slow down. But what fun would that be?

With a deep sigh, her next words were spoken softly, as if it was an afterthought that she meant to keep to herself.

“I don’t know what love is, Matt.”Seems a little melodramatic for the redhead, but it wasn’t an outright lie. Nyxie never felt like she did anything out of ‘love’. The few people that liked her were people who knew that she could be counted on, but also knew that she’d say and do anything to get what she wanted. Thus, it seemed like everything she did was either out of selfishness or responsibility. Love was never something she needed to give or have.

Nyx looked back up at the harlot, changing her tone to sound self-assured,

“Which is probably why I don’t understand the dangers and complications in loving a harlot. You said it yourself – your work entails a certain detachment between the mind and the body. I’d imagine that a lover would have to understand that disconnect. Sounds simple enough to me.” She shrugged, not knowing what the big deal was.

The harlot’s peculiar reaction to her last question made her immediately forget about her indifference to love. A smirk faintly played at her lips as a brow rose in amusement.

“You’ve never had fun while you petched? Strange. That can’t be true, can it?” She laughed, unable to believe his apparent apathy for sex. “Come on luv, you probably have a favorite position, or a role that you prefer playing, no?”

Matthew knew how to control his seductive persona, but Nyxie didn’t. She was fixated on having him, and on enjoying every moment of being with him. Her brazen questions were simply her way of judging his level of blatant honesty. If he claimed to not be shy, then an answer shouldn’t be difficult to give. Nyx was never shy; she saw shyness as a petty weakness. A pathetic obstacle that prevents a person from doing whatever they really want.

The harlot’s final statement made Nyxie want to roll her eyes, but she refrained. Instead, her breath hitched, while colored cheeks failed to hide her obvious longing. She took a moment to shake her head and chuckle.

“Oh please. I’ve grown up around merchants and businesses my whole life. You’re not going to convince me to buy the merchandise by promoting your confidence in it,” she teased, her tone lightly mocking him. “For all I know, you could be an incredibly talented con-artist.” She swept her hands forwards, pushing the water in front of her, moving her body away from the harlot.

Her next words were firm, lacking any sign of jest. “I need proof, Matthew. And since there aren't any customers around, I can't get a raving review. So…”

She paused for dramatic effect.

“I’m going to need a sample of the product.”

If he was at all aware that there was some sort of plan developing, there was not the slightest show of it behind that passive blue gaze. In a way, he was almost incredibly simple. He was straightforward and honest, open with his ideas and firm with his words. He never tried to speak in riddles, merely said what was on his mind. His simplicity was perhaps complex though, a stark contrast to what was normally encountered in this dangerous world. Usually it was much safer to hold your cards close, to protect your inner thoughts and perhaps try to show them as different thoughts entirely. Here the harlot of a student was though, his stare un-waveringly patient as he answered any questions that she might have. He waited, sensing there was something that she was mulling over, his eyes absentmindedly moving to the moving symbol on her back. It was beautiful to watch, really.

He tilted his head at her confession about love, giving a slow roll of his shoulders in return. "I think that love is an emotion that is further defined by the person who feels it. Each person applies their own definition, even if it is actually all just a single sensation. That, in my mind, is the most logical explanation. Not many people are interested in the logistics of love, though. But I suppose you are right. Someone could love me, and it would be as simple as you say. I suppose I should have said that there are complications in loving me specifically. I would not be able to return it. I do not understand it, or desire it." He offered her a polite smile, blue eyes glimmering for a moment as he took a second to refocus on the kicking of his legs. "I do not mean to make my wares seem any less desirable, though. I apologize if that is the case." He let go of the pier for just a few brief ticks, testing out his ability to keep himself afloat by just kicking with his legs. He was able to do it for a few short ticks, but the muscle soon began to ache and he soon found himself having to grab the edge of the dock again.

Glancing back towards her, he considered her next question only for a moment before slowly shaking his head. "I do not have a favorite position. I know the ins and outs of each position, which to use to achieve what effect. I know which position will put me the deepest, which will tease the sensitive clitoral nub of a woman, and what will give the right angle for brushing another specific spot inside of her. I know the safest ways to practice anal sex, or the different methods of both giving and receiving oral sex. I do not favor any of them over the other, though. Even if I did have a favorite position or a role, it wouldn't matter... unless the customer demanded me to take a stance, I suppose. I am not so sure how I would react in that moment." He considered this new idea, honestly not having though of it before. He would need to prepare himself for it at some point. He liked to think he had a plan in mind for everything, but he was often learning that unexpected variables could rear their head at any given moment.

An eyebrow was raised at her next request, blue eyes blinking.

"A sample? I would question who is the talented con-artist, here. Do you have an idea of what it is you want as a sample, or am I allowed to show a sample of my own crafting?" He stared at her a moment and then spoke again, the color in his stare sharpening as something clicked and turned behind his gaze. "Why is your tattoo moving?"

It was almost ironic that he was so focused on the Svefra herself that he didn't notice the obvious answer to his question was quite nearby.

Nyxie scrunched her nose in confusion. “If love is an emotion, I don’t think it should be hard to define.” She mulled over his reasoning while her body bobbed in the water. “An emotion is a natural instinct, isn’t it? And if love was an instinct like happiness, sadness, or fear… why would a person have trouble knowing what love is?”

It was a question worth pondering. Nyxie had heard stories of love from other Svefra from the Suvan Sea, and it was always as if people became consumed by it. During one season, they’d be hard at work earning mizas for themselves. But then they meet someone. And the next season, they’d be off meandering with their newfound sweetheart, having to earn mizas to pay for their escapades---all in the name of love. And then they experience all sorts of emotions because of love: joy, lust, jealousy, surprise, despair, etc.. By the end of the season, they’re back to doing their job, claiming that they'd fallen out of love and would never want their heart broken ever again. No, love was certainly not an emotion.

“I think love is more like a sickness of sorts.”

Woops. Nyxie wasn’t sure if she meant to say that aloud. She shrugged, figuring it was best to continue her train of thought in the hopes that the harlot would understand her reasoning.

“It’s just that it doesn’t seem logical for love to be an indefinable emotion. To me, it makes more sense to say that people become stricken with… ‘symptoms’ of love,” Nyxie wasn’t a doctor, by any means. But thinking of love as a syndrome made it sound a lot more rational. ‘Each person applies their own definition’ because each person probably experiences different symptoms,” she gazed at the harlot with a crooked smile. “And then the combination of symptoms are somehow supposed to be characteristic of what love is. I guess that just means I’ve never been afflicted by the signs of such an illness before.” Another shrug. She wasn’t quite sure if Matt would agree with equating the state of ‘being in love’ with ‘being sick’.

Nyxie held onto the pier, needing time to relax before her tavan’s inevitable arrival. “Matthew, if you really are what you claim to be, I wouldn’t doubt that you’d know what to do in order to please a customer,” she chuckled, knowing it was useless to try and control the flush of her otherwise pale skin. “There’s really no need to apologize. Like I said before, it’s just that I’m not quite sure whether I’d enjoy myself without knowing that the person I’m having sex with is enjoying themselves too. I’d want the both of us to have fun… I’d want it to be reciprocal. Otherwise…”, she knitted her brows and frowned.

“I think my mind would be bothered by the fact that I’m being selfish.” Nyxie tilted her head, attempting to look earnest. It truth, the young Svefra rarely had a problem with being selfish; it was normal for her to be chiefly concerned with her own personal profit. She was sure that seeing true pleasure in the eyes of another only served to increase her own carnal indulgence. But it wouldn’t hurt to try and convince this man of her seemingly selfless concerns, if only to weasel her way out of losing precious coin.

The timing worked out well; Nyxie knew she wouldn’t be able to answer his final questions. She glanced behind his curious face in time to react to the sound of parting waves,

“KAI, NO!”

The command was ignored, as expected. The creature came rushing towards them with no signs of slowing down. By the time Matthew turned around to see what was coming at him, it would be too late. Kai head-butted his backmod permission given :D with enough force to knock the wind out of his lungs, pushing the man forward, making him collide into Nyxie. She let go of the pier and instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck in an attempt to seem like she needed his help to stay afloat. They struggled to no avail. The shark continued to circle around them, firmly head butting their bodies, splashing water over their heads as they both tried to kick and thrash their way out of this mess…

A carefully controlled mess, that is.

Nyxie’s mark glowed and swirled, active in its power to command her tavan. She ordered him to be gentler, not wanting Matthew to leave with bruises on his toned skin. The chaos was perfect. She managed to slip her fingers around the closure of the harlot’s necklace and snapped it open. With a practiced sleight of hand, Nyxie pulled the chain away, hiding it in her fist as she pushed Matt to the side and swam over to get in front of her favorite blunt-nosed friend.

“Heeyy there, slow down buddy! Yea, that’s a good boy,” she kept her back to the harlot as she nuzzled his snout. “Don’t worry Kai, that man’s not going to hurt me, he’s my friend~”

Her arm went around the head of the bull shark, making sure to keep her fist clenched underneath his tummy. Nyxie faced her friend with an apologetic smile. To Matthew, it would look as if the Svefra was holding the shark beside her, under her arm, keeping the harlot safe from harm. Her other hand fluidly moved back and forth, calmly treading in the sea once again.

“I’m so sorry, Matt. I hope you don’t mind; he’s just so ferociously protective of me,” she looked down to Kai, who now opened his mouth wide, showing all his pointed teeth. “Kai says sorry, too. Right bud?” Nyxie laughed as the shark bumped into her side with a snort. He knew her too well.

“Now… where were we?”

OOCApologies for the late reply~ We should be able to wrap this thread up soon; Nyxie will probably try to make an exit in the next post (in order to safely stash her loot :P )

Unadulterated Fun (Matthew)

Matthew nodded as he absorbed her words, understanding them and seeing what he felt was wisdom from them. He didn't flinch or even really blink when she described love as a sickness, merely waited for her to further explain her viewpoint. He was quite open to views other than his own, perhaps dangerously so. He was defined by logic, so if someone ever had a logic that trumped his own... he would very readily assume their belief for himself if the logic was indeed sound. Really, her definition of love was one that he could easily understand when compared to most definitions that he had either given or heard. He was a mind that had studied medicine after all, so turning an emotional concept into a scientific concept certainly helped the idea push into his understanding quite a bit more. His stare grew a bit distant as he reviewed over her words, safely scribed away somewhere deep inside his brain. The Harlot leafed through the book he had mentally created, practically editing his concept of love right there on the spot.

His eyes soon refocused on her words, his head tilting towards her. He didn't need that much time to think before speaking, his soft voice void of all hesitation. "Do not misunderstand, I would enjoy it to an extent. I feel pleasure and arousal, even if it is a profession. My body still works like any other. I also wouldn't consider it selfish. You would be surprised at how much pleasure someone can get merely from the act of fully focusing on the needs and wants of their partner." He had encountered some people in his profession who had chosen it as a career merely because of the sheer amount of satisfaction they received from fulfilling every last need of their customer. Sometimes the greatest form of arousal was achieved through the simple and pure act of focused servanthood to satisfaction. It varied from person to person, though. Arousal, desires, lusts, needs, wants... even though he had only studied for a short time, he had soon found that there were more variations than he could imagine.

While he wasn't really going as far as to consider her a selfless person, she had certainly led him to believe that one of her concerns was a feeling of selfishness. Her subtle social manipulation was working wonders, really.

He practically had come to the answer for his last question on his own when the creature struck him. At first a rush of fear flooded his veins, his mind working on overdrive. His mental thought process moved at blazing speeds, much faster than his body could ever hope to react to the sudden threat. Was it a danger? That was discarded along with the fear as he realized it was probably a friend of the Svefra. His body briefly tightened against Nyxie's as the fear ran its course, muscle flexing and lungs gasping for air. One hand instinctively swept up to grab the pier, anchoring him as he watched the circling creature. For a moment, doubt flooded his mind. Was it a friend of the Svefra? Yes, she had called to it. He watched it, unable to tear his eyes away, his instinctive impulsive fear only barely held back by both logic and the fact that he had his eyes on the creature.

The necklace was slipped from his neck and he didn't even notice a thing.

Nyxie moved to settle the creature, putting his worries to rest. He offered a polite smile and a shake of his head at her apology, taking it at face value, knowing the natural instinct of a creature to protect its master. "It is quite alright. I understand. I believe we were discussing a sample, and I was also curious about your mark. I assume it was active merely to communicate with your pet, though." He practically negated the need for Nyxie to support her plot, easily supporting it himself, probably delighting the Svefra with his abundance of cluelessness.

Unadulterated Fun (Matthew)

Oh, she was definitely delighted.

Nyxie gave him a nod, looking down at Kai and then back up at the harlot, trying to hide the smirk in her warm smile. “Right, a sample. Well, I---”

A loud growl erupted from her stomach.

“Petch, I’m starving~” She chuckled lightly, a little embarrassed by the noise. It was clearly getting pretty late, and there was no way she’d continue to have her guts grumbling as they talked. Nyx figured it’d be better to quickly grab something to eat at the tavern nearby before she resumed her exploits.

“Did you have dinner yet?” The earnest question was given no time for an answer before she spoke up again “If not, there’s a place nearby called ‘The Broken Casket’ that we can go to.” Nyxie was eager to have Matthew join her even if he’d ate already, so she hoped that he’d get the drift. “But…”

But what? There was no need for her to hesitate. There was no reason to not take this man in whatever way she wanted. There was no point in even waiting a second longer to make her decision.

Just get out of the water, and head to the tavern. He’ll notice that his necklace is missing, and you’ll say that it must’ve fell into the sea. You’ll eat, you’ll drink, and you’ll talk. And then you’ll pay him. He’ll take care of you. The next morning, you’ll sell the necklace and leave for Alvadas. The end.

What was going to change between now and tomorrow? Nothing. Nothing was going to change between them. He’ll stay a harlot, willing to fulfill her needs and desires for a price, and she’ll stay a Svefra, willing to enjoy his wares without losing any mizas.

So then what’s my problem?

“Matthew, would you mind grabbing my clothes? They’re up on the dock.” Not wanting to dwell on seemingly irrational doubts any longer, Nyxie pushed them out of her mind. If the harlot chose to help, she’d watch him pull himself out of the ocean, water dripping from his fantastically fit figure as he picked up her stuff. “Great, now toss ‘em at me.” The redhead ignored any signs of perplexity, choosing only to respond after he’d given her the clothes.

“Thanks luv,” she grinned as she caught the fabric in her free hand. Kai kept her afloat, her legs kicking beneath the surface. “I’ll join you at the tavern in half a bell, okay? I’m just going to go freshen up a bit, and then tell my father where I’ll be.”

It was an appropriate excuse. Except the Captain trusted her enough to stay close to the docks, and she wasn’t too concerned about the way she looked. Nyxie just figured it was the right thing to do---hiding the necklace on the ship would be less stressful than hiding it in her clothes. And she knew she had every intention of coming back. Looking at Matthew and knowing that he held dark promises made Nyxie yearn to feel what he had to offer...

“By the way luv, if I hadn’t made it clear already---I’d like to buy your wares for the night.”

The redhead gave him a wink before waving goodbye, the arm holding the necklace latched onto Kai while they swam off into the distance.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Nyxie stood by the helm of her father's ship, watching the horizon starting to lighten with Syna's rays. There were dark circles under her watery eyes...but she hadn't cried. She hadn't gotten any sleep, either. She just couldn't stop thinking about him. Thinking about what he thought of her. Her thoughts swam in circles as she told herself that she didn't care what he thought. She did the right thing.

What extent was he talking about, anyways? At what point does he have to stop enjoying himself? Even more confusing was the fact that Nyxie didn't understand why all of it should actually matter to her. She should've been able to do what she wanted all along. But no. All she knew was that by the time she reached the casinor, she changed her mind.

The redhead looked down at the necklace she held in her hands. She had half a mind to just toss it into the ocean. It's not like she's ever going to see him again. The thing looked somewhat valuable, though, so there was a chance that she could make money off of it. Nyxie sighed, preparing to forget about him once and for all.

There were plenty of other fish in the sea.

OOCFeel free to end the thread with the next post :D Would you like to start the sequel, or should I? ^.^
