It was clear from her reaction that the Konti was less than happy with his response, withdrawing somewhat and lowering her gaze. Perhaps that meant she was listening, and some section of it had sunken through, Clyde thought to himself.
Clearly she had been excited by her "Achievement" of her spell, but Clyde was not. He had left his words purposely a bit vague, hinting at ideas and things that might or might not be true. Such as the purposeful idea of her magic being taken away from her, of him taking back his Reimancy that he had gifted her with. In a way it was untrue, but then he had never said he could, simply that perhaps he should. Not technically a lie, but still misleading.
"I.. I'm sorry. I thought you would be impressed, I was trying to be more efficient, I was.."
"I am sorry I disobeyed you. I don't want to die, and I do think I am worthy to keep what you have given me. I will do as you say, from now on."
Clyde nodded, meeting her eyes, staring her down.
“If you wish to be a Reimancer, cast aside all ideas of impressive shows of magic. Being big and showy and flashy does not mean being good. Good is what is necessary, good is what it does with practicality in mind, and with being the most effective and efficient with what you have. Never make two when one will do. Never do all at once what you can do much more effectively over time or over an area. If this was life or death and you had to do it all at once that is one thing, but when you have time to do things properly you should always do so.”
Taking in a deep breath, Clyde closed his eyes, pondering over words and ideas. Pondering over orders, some to a degree arbitrary. But perhaps it would also mean keeping her alive, and her using her magic properly.
“First rule of djed, all Reimancy is a trade off. Either you will have a fast spell that you do not fully understand or control, which you release into the world, or you will have a well formed and precise spell that through planning and hard work becomes what you will it to. Either you have a powerful spell, or you have a spell you fully control. The more power you go for, the less control you will have. Slowly such boundaries will expand, your limits will expand, and what is now hard will become a pittance. But regardless that rule will hold that the more power you will then the less control you will have. It even still holds for me.”
“Second rule, res is precious, is a part of you, do not disrespect it or use it wastefully. Do not transmute unless you must, always use attraction if you can, always take back what is leftover that is not wasted. Only make what you need, and only use it for what you must. Take your time, and realize its cost.”
“Rule three, do not use a spell outside of training, or outside of lab settings, unless you have performed it thrice. Once is a fluke, you might have done it by chance or the random factors. Twice means you can perform it, can do it and implement it. Thrice means you truly understand it, and can call upon it even without thinking. By then the unique rhythms and sways of the spell should come naturally, and you should be able to do it in the exact form without deviation. Learn these base spells well, and then if you must in battle alter or deviate them to suit your needs. But never perform a spell in combat or when your life depends upon it unless you truly understand it, or at least what it is based on.”
“Rule four, rest, recuperate, and prepare. Perform a spell, and then take a few chimes to center yourself. Take a drink of water, eat a little, rest, and then perform another spell if you must. If you have time to stop and rest, do so, give yourself time to replenish, and to think over your prior casting. If it is a difficult enough casting, perhaps just end training for the day, and take it up another day. Before casting clear your mind and focus yourself, take some time to meditate, and when you do cast use a focus mechanism. Gestures, incantations, Glyphs, if possible both Glyphs and one of the focus mechanism. While in battle you cannot do all, you always have time to use focus mechanism such as gestures or incantations.”
“Rule five, control your magic, do not let it control you. Use Reimancy because you must, or to train, or for something nothing else can do. Never let it control you, never let it choose your actions or when you cast. Keep a cool head, and do not push yourself beyond your limits. Know when you need to stop, and do so.”
Letting out a sigh, Clyde looked at the Konti once more, and looked out of the room. Out onto the Konti isle, the open air, and the elements.
“If you follow those rules, you might just live long enough to become decent with the magic. So long as you respect your magic, are not wasteful, and keep in control of it.”
Pausing for a moment, Clyde let all he had said sink in, and then gazed back at the konti.
“Well... I suppose that's about it for the lesson... Did you have any last minute questions, or should we end it here?”
