Sunberth is one of those places on Mizahar where free development and distribution of questionable drugs and draughts is more than just a possibility; it's an undeniable reality. Because of this, it's not out of the question that there are several kinds of the aforementioned in circulation about the city, and some might even be exported/smuggled out to other cities through merchant vessels or caravans. Since a solid resource doesn't exist of these types of drugs and draughts, however, it's high time we start putting one together. And, for this, we need all the help and ideas we can get.

Feel free to submit your ideas and complete write-ups in this thread. Make sure to include some of the following when you present the idea to us, however: a name for the drug or draught, the consumption effect as well as method of consumption (smoked, drank, chewed, etc). Additional details that could be useful are also production method, source and location where the required reagents to produce the drug or draught are originally found.

Woo! Drugs! Drugs for everyone! I mean... here's an idea.

Name: Taub
Consumption effect: Numbs pain and produces a general feel good (Euphoria and Relaxation being the primary), however upon come down the pain returns at an increased level - thus encouraging consumers to seek more to numb it.
Method of consumption: (Pipe) Smoked, though can be chewed if one can withstand the bitter taste.
Production method: Plant is firstly harvested, the flower is removed, the leaves separated from the stalk. They are then sliced and are left to be cured (with assistance of fire for a quicker turn around). From there they are smoked.
Source & Location: Local temperate climate, primary plant (Considering Aletrid from pricelist, thus would need a level 1 herbalism to identify - may want a custom plant for this however) that can be found in the Northern Wilds of Sunberth. Additional herbs are sometimes added to improve flavour. From there it can sold on and smoked.

Because why wouldn't Sunberth have something this terrifying?

Name(s): Tristaline, Breath of Sagallius, White Ash.

Consumption Effect: Once under the influence of Tristaline, one will experience the loss of free will, making them vulnerable to suggestion. In addition, vivid hallucinations are common but are subject to the nature of each individual user's imagination. Euphoria is another common trait, though it becomes less prevalent with higher doses and better quality. At the optimum dose most individuals can handle (no more than half a handful before there's risk of overdose), most are reduced to numb, obedient shells of themselves. During such an event most report complete amnesia the following day. One of its more mild advantages is its ability to end nausea.

Method of Consumption: If found growing wild, one may indulge themselves on as many as three seeds of the Tristaline plant to fall under the influence. More commonly found in powdered form, it may be snorted or simply inhaled.

Production Method: The fruit of the Tristaline plant is harvested and split. Its several dozen white seeds are collected and finely ground into delicate white powder, which gives it its nickname "White Ash."

Source and Location:
A rare find, the Tristaline plant grows in the darkest depths of the Sylira Wildlands. If one is lucky (or unlucky) enough to stumble on the plant, it would likely be while spelunking in areas of little sunlight and plenty of moisture. It blooms vivid, bio-luminous fruit every three years which is when it is ripe for seed harvest. This long cycle is what makes the drug so very rare and expensive. Though it would seem almost impossible to cultivate outside its natural habitat, rumors stir that someone has established such a business somewhere along Sunberth's underground...

Name: Beggar's Choice; Fool's Gold, Sweet Embrace
Type: Psychedelic Drug
Found in: Exclusively in Sunberth's Mines.
Consumption Method: chewing and swallowing.

Mortality Rate / consumption: 5% +/-
Lifespan of Addicts: 10 consumptions +/-

Cause of Death: As this drug, natural as it may be, has resided deep down the Sunberthian soil, only to be revealed by mining shafts and tunnels, it is unsurpising not a single sentient race has a system that can handle its highly dangerous effects. Not only does it completely mess up all the senses for a fairly long duration, which in truth is why it is consumed, but its spores cause a chain reaction when consumed one time too many, destroying vital organs indiscriminatly of any race on Mizahar.

Effect: Once approximately one dose, around 5 mushrooms, has been chewed andconsumed by the user. The effect starts around half a bell later, lasting in-between 8 to 12 hours, if you don't go completely insane. The effect impacts every single one of the senses, it's an extremely psychedelic and dangerous drug. Upon taking a dose in a short period of time, the consumer is completely lost in his most desired, subconscious, situation at the time of intake. The user will feel, in every possible way, the illusion of being where he wants to be and how he wants to be.
It's, unsurprisingly, an insanely euphoric drug. Once it takes effect, nothing can go wrong in the user's temporary 'reality'. In actual reality, the user is completely paralyzed and utterly lost in his thoughts and minds for the entire duration of the effect.

Dangers:

- Addiction - One of the most satisfying sensations a person or creature can have, usually mainly purchased and consumed by beings that are no longer able to hope for a better tomorrow

- Insanity - Getting stuck in the dreamworld. (Relative, depends on the user. A shaky or instable person has a high chance of 'getting stuck', while a strong-willed and secure person has a minor yet still very real chance of not being able to overcome the illusion.)

- Death.
  • If stuck in the drug, is imminent as starvation and dehydration are too, since the user is paralyzed for the duration of the illusion.
  • If 'overdosing', whether on short or long term, death is irreversible and one of the easiest methods of suicide amongst Sunberth's most unfortunates. This is because death comes fairly swift and, while excruciatingly painful in reality, the illusion of the drug would have taken effect before the fatal process begins affecting the body.

Reasoning behind the drug's names:

- Beggar's Choice | Beggars can't be choosers...Hence the name, it's basicly a last resort. Whether it's to end one's life immediately, or over the course of several consumptions, almost everyone in Sunberth knows that once you use it, even once....It's pretty much the end of the line for you.

- Fool's Gold | While this is mainly used by people who can no longer go on, there are some in Sunberth that even without feeling the noose around the neck, foolishly decide to try out this drug.

- Sweet Embrace | Basicly the term used for the drug by those that wish to end it right there and then.


(Notes: Hardcore drug, I know, but Sunberth isn't exactly a cute little town either. It's a brutal life for its residents and I can only imagine more than one think of ending their lives in the slums of Sunberth. Hence, this drug. It can also be used a poison if inventive.

Name(s): Chaonite, Tears of Rhysol

Consumption Effect: Those that drink the strange, clear liquid seem to become the very worst version of themselves. Users will experience feelings of grandeur about themselves. Empathy is unquestionably overridden by apathy. Individuals don't seem to care who they hurt, though there seems to be a preference to wield words before weapons. Conflict is sure to follow wherever the Chaonite user goes. While under the effects of the drug, users will become antagonistic and seek to incite a rise of some sort from those around them. They are most likely to bait even their most cherished loved ones in any manner they can, especially through harsh or unfair truths. While the Chaonite user is unable to lie, the truths they do tell may be twisted from sober beliefs in order to upset/manipulate those around them.

Method of Consumption: Drinking a small vial. It may be mixed with other liquids to hide the taste as it is generally sour.

Production Method: Distilled and sold in vials.

Source and Location: The Chaonite is an uncommon, poisonous plant found in dark, woody areas. Most harvesters only need to travel a few miles from Sunberth to find it. However, it is rare to find the Chaonite plant in other regions across Sylira.

Name Gold Dust; the more widely available and cheaper version (and most used/heavily 'stepped on') is known as Slum Dust.
Other names: Dust
Experience: Dusting
Abusers and addicts known as Slummers or Dust Lickers
Limitations: Pure Dust (e.g Gold Dust) is rarely found outside the Western Heights region of Sunberth
Circulation: The Brotherhood of Chains is said to have first created the drug and is the only gang that produces the pure product. Other gangs produce the heavily altered version most often found on the streets.

Method of consumption Multiple; Most often smoked from a pipe but can be crushed to a powder and either snorted or mixed with a carrier liquid (most often alcohol) and ingested.

Consumption effect Powerful psycho-stimulant that, upon initial consumption, provides a euphoric rush to the user. Depending on dosage and purity, it can also provide the user mental clarity and enhanced focus, alertness and endurance as well as a feeling of invincibility. Anxiety, paranoia and heart palpitations can occur regardless of tolerance levels or purity but occur more regularly with the street version. Chronic abuse leads to pain immunity, violent tendencies, dissociation and memory loss as well as a decline in overall health.
Onset: Depends on manner of consumption; effects are instantaneous when smoked and occur nearly as quickly when snorted. Oral ingestion, especially when mixed, can take anywhere from 30 chimes to a full bell.
Duration: Depends on manner of consumption; effects can last anywhere from four to eight bells when smoked or snorted. Oral ingestion duration varies due to being mixed and interacting with carrier liquids but generally lasts a full day (effects, however, are less intense).

Production method Plants, mineral rock and lichen are first ground into a fine powder before being philtered to unlock the desired properties and, lastly, dried and dyed to achieve the desired golden look.

Abridged, price list version :
Use: Smoked/Snorted/Dissolved in carrier liquid and drank, Effects: Powerful psycho-stimulant for those wanting more than just a buzz. This drug causes feelings of euphoria, mental clarity, enhanced stamina and invincibility (making the pure version popular at parties in the Western Heights). However, users of the street (unpure) version can turn aggressive and dissociative; memory loss and paranoia are other common side effects. Gold Dust - or just Dust - is made from combining local Sunberth mineral Ruwelite and Yomithrix lichen with Everlite. The leaves and stalk of Clogdol give the drug its golden appearance and Demona is required during the philtration process to create the pure blend. L2 herbalism, poison and philtration to identify and harvest/process.
