Get A Taste Of Location Design!

Image

The challenge is to design one location for a domain of YOUR choosing. Is the same old sites in Sunberth harshing your mellow? Build a new one, something that everyone can use as a setting. Does Lhavit's party scene need some spicing up? Perhaps an events center is in order? Are you feeling deep, dark, and dangerous? Maybe Kenash's Rujaro needs a swamp location to hang out in. Kalea can always use more locations because it is vast and there are barbarians around. Cyphrus' sweeping grass is filled with myth and legend. Bring it to life!

You get extra credit if you create monsters or interesting people for those locations! Our site artists are standing by to help you crop images and do fancy text if you need them too. Use them! They love to help!

If you sign up to do a location, just note that you're playing and give us a tiny idea of what we can anticipate! These are due no later than Monday morning. Good luck and have fun! And if we get the Perk Point System put back in place we'll definitely count any development here for there.

Oh. Did I forget to mention? Have fun! Kick your buddies butts! Make sure your location is the coolest of them all. Once we have them all turned in, we'll have a vote post so anyone and everyone can vote on their favorites! You can play with multiple alts too and add multiple entries.

Postby Eosi on January 23rd, 2016, 6:47 pm

Regrettably, I had to go back and edit this post. I will be bowing out of this challenge as my laptop charger is broken and the battery to that laptop is so dead that it must be plugged in in order to even be functional.

Now that itself is not a suitable excuse. But also I need to move soon and maybe at a moment's notice so instead I've spent the day packing. Next time!

Graders Please Note :
As Ball is getting closer and closer to maxing out Pyken as a skill, I would like to request that in places where Ball is not doing enough to constitute Pyken XP if Pyken technique lores could be issued instead.

Examples of proper XP level for Pyken would be: Ball developing or refining his technique by adding new thing against an actual moving target, not a dummy.

The use of basic skills alone are not enough to accomplish XP at Ball's current level of Pyken.

Thank you.

I will be handling all Ball related posts on Mondays @ 1800 my time *

Trust Builder

Building trusts starts by taking the first step to sign up.

Trust Builder is a riding arena that offers the rider and horse a chance to truly get to know each other. The owners of the building work in partnership with the Knights of Syliras to train their squires in riding and trusting their mounts. Though with Knight training during the week most squires come in every ten days but are more than welcome to come in after their lessons during the week. When a student or squire approach the building he/she is met by a sign over two large doors saying 'Trust Builder.' Upon entering the building students and squires a like are met the by two owners one a female Drykas and an older retired Knight of Syliras. Each attend the classes to help with their knowledge of horses and riding.

Roman is an older man who spent the majority of his younger years fighting as a Knight of Syliria. He came out scarred and blind in one eye though praises the gods for his continued survival while in service to the knights. As time went on after his dismissal he longed to help the young squires in some way, but time wore on and this dream was forgotten. One day he was walking and heard a young female Drykas pleading with the city officials to be allowed to open a riding arena for public use. He stepped up and offered to help the woman train the squires should the knights send them to the arena. After much negotiations the pair was allowed to open the building so long as the squires and young knights were allowed to use the arena every ten days as a way to work with their mounts.

Honey Redthorn is an older woman who works at Trust Builder. Don't let the name fool you; she can be very stern and to some very mean while teaching. She originally hails from Endrykas where one was to either learn how to trust their mare or stallion. When Honey first moved to Syliras, the girl was amazed to see that there was no place to ride a horse in peace during the week just on the tenth of every month. As time went on Honey found the perfect place in the city to set up the arena. She went before the council and begged them to allow her the building for the arena. Not until after an ex-knight stepped up to offer aid in running the business did the council agree to let the building be used.

Right count me in. I'm creating a location In sultros that isn't really something many people think of. It's to do with ores and metals if you want a hint.

Just a quick note here to let you guys know that even if you develop something for a domain, that storyteller still has to approve it and there is no pressure on them to do so. It should be right for their domain in their eyes.

Obviously things you develop for closed domains might not get used sadly. :( There are no storytellers to put them in. But if your heart is set on a closed domain, feel free to go for it. If you are uncertain about your idea, most of our staff are totally approachable so ask them for input!

The Bluethistle Caravansary

Set on the edge of the city, this cluster of tents strung out in a line serves as a place for travelers and traders to find rest. The Bluethistle Caravansary is a group of tents that have been placed together so that, from a distance, it appears to be one long tent. Upon entry to the caravansary, travelers are met by the husband and wife who run the inn. Zypher is a proud Drykas who has seen much on the plains. As he aged, the man and his wife decided to open a place for the roaming traders and wandering merchants to stay. Zypher's wife, Lilly, runs the registry and upon entry the first thing a visitor sees is a lush sitting area to the right. In the summer, the flaps are tied back and in the winter a furnace is lit so that customers can be comfortable while talking prices with the woman. Once the paper work and prices are settled, Zypher escorts the group to where they will be staying while in Endrykas.

The Bluethistle pavilion runs the business without much outside help. Zypher and Lilly use their children and relatives to help maintain cleanliness and, as needed, runners to fetch services from other Endrykas establishments such as the River Flower, the Guided Horse or the Whet Stone. Because of its importance and location, the Watch patrols the caravansary on a regular basis to help ensure order and security. All outside services are contracted on an individual basis and not the responsibility of the caravansary.

There are two different sizes of pavilion available for rent. The larger ones are meant for a small to medium-sized family and comprise the majority of the business. Individual tents are also available but these are fewer as there aren't many who travel alone in the Sea of Grass. Furnishings are provided though they are quite simple much like any Drykas home. Pallets for beds with layers of blankets and furs, an eating area with a small hutch for storage and a simple table and chair(s). Every lodging has an overhanging canopy that wagons, horses or other possessions can be stored beneath to protect them from the weather.

Right ladies and gentlemen I bring to you, My presentation for this weekend challenge.
I hope that Gillar like this.
After all I am attempting to toy with something in his city.

I took this opportunity to address something that many smiths use but not many of them actually produce themselves. Their base materials. The raw foundations upon which they work. So I based this place in sultros out in the citadel and I present to you...

Molten Rivers.
Metal works, trade goods and casting fineries.

Image

Lying within the walls of the citadel of sultros. Within arm’s reach of Midar’s bladed fist and hammerfell’s forge lies a quite unassuming place. From the outside it looks like a large sloped building built almost directly into the wall of the citadel. Apart from the large bore smoke stack that carries a constant waving haze of flicking air yet suspiciously little smoke. The thick doors made of large oaken planks and two small windows adorn the outer side of the building. Each window connected to a completely separate room to the main building. And connected to a hall that leads a litlte further under ground. From the small windowed rooms all business is conducted and most of the stock is stored. However the main room underneath this little stone building is where most of the action take place.

Upon opening the door to the main building people are confronted with a hallway and a flight of stairs which lead down into a small partition room. Opening the heavy oaken doors here one would be instantly blasted with almost unbearable heat as within lies a huge set of large blast furnaces each one filled with a separate metal in it’s liquid state. Glittering and glinting golds, silvers and bronzes in their most liquid form slosh back and forth within huge metal melting pots made of thick extremely hardened and heat treated steel the only material both strong enough to withstand the intense heats of the fires (other than isurian steel). Two workers to a cauldron they’d shift the cauldrons containing the liquid metal with chains, pouring it into specially designed smaller carry pots held in a metal brace to be used with the casts and moulds. Each filling a need for a certain type of material or a certain customers request. But the majority of the moulds are simple bevelled blocks designed for the shaping of ingots to be used by the local smiths and traders from other cities.

The whole building is in fact a giant underground smelting centre. And supplies most of the citadels smiths as well as most of the cities smiths with their base materials to construct on. The only metal it does not deal in the creation of is the isurian steel which is jealously guarded. Still from this place a business or a person may purchase ingots or specially requisitioned smelting crafts. From a variety of materials.

They also provide the ability to make specially ordered smelting mixes creating strange and exotic alloys if certain smiths ask for them from the master smelter himself.

Raw materials – 5lb Ingots

Cold Iron 1 gm/pound – 5gm Ingot
Copper 5 sm/pound – 2gm 5sm Ingot
Gold 5 gm/pound – 25gm Ingot
Iron 5 sm/pound – 2gm 5sm Ingot
Lead 5 sm/pound – 2gm 5sm Ingot
Silver 3 gm/pound – 15gm Ingot
Tin 1 gm/pound – 5gm Ingot
Zinc 5 sm/pound – 2gm 5sm Ingot

Alloys – 5lb Ingots

Brass 7 sm/pound – 3gm 5sm Ingot
Bronze 6 sm/pound – 3gm Ingot
Steel 1 gm/pound – 5gm Ingot

Specialty alloys – 5lb ingots
Inquire.

Smelter Master
ImageName: Garner Liquidfire Coglias

Race/Gender: Isur/Male

Notable Skills: Metal Smithing 97, Geology 73, Carving 66, Masonry 63, Unarmed combat 51, Negotiation 55, Etching 44, Mathematics 37, Physics 33.

Additional Info:
Garner is the furnace master. As such he is the man in charge of any and all possible blast furnace smelting. Over his many years of existence he’s learnt to identify the basic properties of rocks which contain ore and those which don’t. He can also determine the metal contained within each ore and as such he can split them into separate piles with little effort. When it comes to smelting and metalcraft via casting he has years of experience often in casting and alloying some very strange materials together.

His attitude is somewhat gruff if a little interested in learning asmany different things as he can about the metals he works with. He’s always open to new ideas for alloys and mixes of materials but that is provided he is paid upfront.
