This thread is for submission of completed projects such as locations, NPCs, creatures, and plants. Once submitted I will give any critiques and comments necessary to get your project ready for posting in the main forum. I would advise you to submit your idea in the discussion thread before you write it up and post it here so we can work out any major issues or kinks prior to you going through the effort of a full writeup. Other players are welcome to post their critiques and comments of player submitted work as long as they maintain respect and are constructive with their opinions.

Below are listed some templates you can use when compiling information for development. Please try to format locations and NPCs to the style that is already being used in Avanthal. All entries should have an image and this image MUST be hosted in Mizahar's galleries. Contact an ST with questions.

Suggestion Box - ver 2.0

Postby Junco on May 27th, 2016, 4:09 pm

ImageName: Hoarfrost Fox
Common Locations: Snowy tundra of Northern Reaches and Wastes
Frequency: Common
Threat Level: None

Characteristics: These foxes are small creatures that grow up to about a foot tall and two feet long. In adulthood their fur is a stark white, their nose and eyes the only dark spots on their body and the only thing that would make then recognizable from the snowy backdrop. Before maturation cubs are also white but have grey fur around their eyes, ears, spines and joints. This makes them much more noticeable and at a greater risk of danger. Because of their small stature, they are also very light in weight, making it very easy for them to walk atop feet of snow without falling in. These creatures are also easily startled and act like a deer in torchlight when first spotted. They freeze, hoping to not be seen and then dart from their hiding place, scurrying across the plains until they are out of sight again. Their diet consists of small rodents that live mainly underground. It is not uncommon to see an unaware fox stalking prey by staring intently on at the ground, until one moment when they spring up on their hind legs and pounce, nose first, into the snow, coming up again with a captured rabbit or other rodent in their clenches. These foxes live in snow dens they either find or make themselves. They are very skilled at digging and their dens usually stay strong for a long time, it is often found that other small mammals call these abandoned dens their home.

Social Structure: Although these animals are mostly solitary, around mating season, in the Spring, is it easy to spot a pair traveling and hunting together. Females often pick males and then spend many days at a time with them before deciding to mate. Once they are mated the male stays with the female until the litter is born. Usually born within a small makeshift ice den, females give birth to 2-3 cubs. The father leaves once the cubs open their eyes, about 5 days after birth. The mother raises the cubs until they learn to hunt and scavenge for themselves, around 1 season old, then she sets off alone again.

Miscellaneous: These animals are very common in the wastes and reaches, although hardly ever seen due to their fantastic camouflage. The Icewatch and Frostfawn hold do not regulate their hunting but it is rare to see their pelt or meat on the market as once one is found, they are difficult to catch. Their fur is very soft and a popular use is swindling newborns in their fur. Their meat is nothing special and does not sell for much more than regular deer meat.

EDIT: Changed the common location from plains to tundra per Prophets announcement that Avanthal is a tundra.

Suggestion Box - ver 2.0

Postby Junco on May 27th, 2016, 4:29 pm

ImageName: Snowy Owl
Common Locations: All across Taldera, more common in the North.
Frequency: Uncommon
Threat Level: Mild Threat

Characteristics: These birds are perfect for their snowy climates. They sport pure white plumage with the occasional smattering of black or brown spots near the tips of each wing or the top of the head. As they age their feathers turn whiter, losing any smatterings of color, females are typically darker than the average male. Although wild animals at heart, they are easily tamed and are a common sight among Avanthal falconers. Relatively large birds they stand around 20-28 inches tall and their wingspan can grow up to 4.5 feet. A healthy adult can weight up to 7 pounds. Unlike most owls, the Snowy Owl is not nocturnal, and therefore much easier to spot during travels and much more useful for human companionship. These owls hunt smaller game, lemmings, rabbits, and fish mostly. They have excellent hearing and eyesight and can spot a scurrying mammal from far away.

Social Structure: Most Snowy Owls usually have only one mate, but they do not stay abstinent if their normal mate had died or disappeared. A pair will often share a nest while they are together, residing in the high treetops of evergreen trees, and the males do as much part in care-taking as the mothers when it comes to their clutch or newborns. Females will lay from 3-10 eggs depending on the availability of food and both owls become very protective once they are laid. Coming too close to a nest will provoke them to attack, no matter the size of the trespasser.

Miscellaneous: Because of their diurnal habits, excellent hunting capabilities and friendliness towards humans, these birds are fantastic choices of pets to falconers. They are easily cared for and often gifts for beginners. They are also relatively cheap. Their pure white feathers are also often used for jewelry or decoration.

ImageName: Wooly Elk
Common Locations: Northern Taldera Tundra
Frequency: Very Common
Threat Level: Mild

Characteristics: The Wooly Elk are larger versions of their warmer climate counterparts. Standing from 6-8 feet tall and up to 10 feet long, these elk attribute most of their added weight (500-800lbs) to their extra think, wooly, fur and a few inches of fat contained under their skin for insulation. Unlike normal valley elk, these animals have evolved to combat the harsh Northern climates. They are strictly herbivores and eat mostly bark and leaves, and the occasional grasses that poke out of the snow. They travel through the plains and take shelter in one another rather than a physical land barrier. Males, called 'stags' are larger than the females and can be identified via large antlers, while females have no antlers at all. Young elk are spotted, though those are lost at about 2 years of age when they are deemed mature.

Social Structure: These animals travel in small herds of about 5-10 animals each. Usually there is only one male per herd who mates with each female, although in larger groups there may be a second male who mates with the cows the alpha does not. Cows give birth to usually one elk per year and if the Bambi is female the cow usually stays within the herd its whole life. However males tend to get chased off by the alpha as soon as they reach maturity. Sometimes a lone male elk will come across a herd and fight for ownership. These fights often end in death of one, using their large antlers as weapons they ram and slash at each other. Male elk shed their antlers once a year in Summer and they don't fully grow back until the end of fall. During this time the herd takes extra precautions and usually travels quicker an farther to avoid being tracked by predators.

Miscellaneous: One of the most common hunting targets of Avanthal, these elk herds are tracked closely by the Frostfawn Hold as well as the Icewatch. Their numbers are somewhat regulated and a couple herds are cared for by the Frostfawn Hold themselves. It is illegal to hunt a male, as they are very few and often mate with many, however it is legal to kill females. If a mother is killed the rest of the herd adopts the Bambi, so as long as the entire herd is not wiped out the Bambi's will not be abandoned. Bambi's are also illegal to hunt. Wooly Elk antlers are a great prize since they cannot be obtained directly from the animal. Any antlers obtained are from finding them shed during the Summer. The elks meat is common in Vantha diet and their fur is commonly used for clothing.

EDIT: Changed the common location from plains to tundra per Prophets announcement that Avanthal is a tundra.

Junco, I like your write-ups for the animals but I'm not so certain what I'm going to do with the fauna list so for now they will sit. Please be patient.

Epi-
The Vantha of old age: Jealous of Immortality - Not sure the point of this one
The snake and the cave: A Story of a Curious little Girl - Needs more of a moral than just a girl disappearing because she went exploring
Shooting Stars: Wishes do come true - I like it. Feel free to add this to the Lullaby thread.
The deep depths: Legends of an ancient creature locked beneath the shores of Avantha - needs some help with the flow but a good start
The Beserker Vantha - this is ok. I think if said around any icewatch members or sympathizers, you might run into problems.
The Vantha raised by Artic Wolves - Good
Turnif Snowsong and Mary Skyglow: A love between Arts - Good

Gossamer wrote:The friends wouldn't be personal NPCS unless you are supporting them. So the ST of Avanthal would have to approve them.

My PC would only be able to see them if he decided to search for them and since my PC is starting in Lhavit, his friends would be off at sea. I'll probably include them in my first post since they dropped him off in Lhavit but other than that, the two living NPCs would be hanging around near Avanthal. (I know dead NPCs don't necessarily have to be approved but I put one in anyway.) :)

Friends
Image Name: Felix Coolwater
Race: Vantha
DoB: 1, Winter, 492 AV
PoB: Avanthal, Teldera
Type: [Dead NPC]
Location: Died at Sea
Skills: Sailing (20), Astronomy (20), Teaching (10)

history :
Best friend and cousins from his mother's side, born on the same day. They were kindred spirits from the very beginning. While Felix was much more impulsive and overly enthusiastic, he was just as honest and passionate about what he does, like Soren. While their families aren't in the same hold, they somehow were still able to meet, by providence they say, when Felix checked in the Whitevine Healing Center for a nasty wound. That was where the two met. Johan, Soren's father, recognized him immediately and introduced Soren to Felix. Since Soren was chosen to practice and tend to Felix wounds, they got to know each other very quickly and became good friends. Even after Felix's wounds were healed they promised to keep in touch and they did. Felix often hired Soren for his healing in case the Coolwater crew ever got injured on one of their ventures. In return, Felix taught Soren all he knew about the alignment of the stars. Originally, Felix tried to teach him how to swim. However, all the poor boy would do was thrash and freak. It's quite funny how safe and confident Soren felt on a boat when a storm could easily capsize them. Unfortunately, that was exactly what happened. The Coolwater crew was lost in the storm, including Felix... Strange... The only one who couldn't swim, was the only one to survive the raging sea... Soren often grieves for Felix, his kindred spirit. Heart wounds still very fresh and rubbed with salt whenever his eyes glance up at the night sky...

Image Name: Lia'Liliana Seaglass
Race: Svefra
DoB: 20 Summer, 476 AV
PoB: Suvan Sea
Type: [Stationary NPC]
Location: Near Storm Bay*
Skills: Leadership (30), Sea Navigation (10), Sailing (10)

history :
Although this woman frightens him, he still deeply respects and cares for her. Soren believed for a time that this lady hated him to the deepest core since she only allowed him on board the Palivar because he was a stranded landlubber that had money. It wasn't until Soren saved the Lia's son, Dylan, that she came to truly accept him. She still thinks he's a spoiled little landlubber, but she cares for him just the same.

Image Name: Dylan Seaglass
Race: Svefra
DoB: 80, Summer, 490 AV
PoB: Suvan Sea
Type: [Stationary NPC]
Location: Near Storm Bay*
Skills: Sea Navigation (20), Sailing (10), Food Preservation (10), Teaching (10)

history :
Dylan was the one to start calling him Sores, being the first svefra to ever befriend Soren and teach him a little bit of Fravata*See "Languages: Poor". However, he wasn't always so benevolent towards Soren. When Soren was first pulled into the Palivar, Dylan was as cold as Lia'Liliana, his mother. He was actually the one that suggested they keep his mizas and throw him into the drink rather than take him to Lhavit. Despite the fact that Dylan would constantly bully Soren and try his patience, Soren prayed to his gods that they would one day get along or at least tolerate each other until they dropped him off at Lhavit. Although it wasn't the way Soren would have liked, the chance had come in the form of a serious accident. Although Dylan was considered an enemy, Soren used his knowledge of medicine to save Dylan and ultimately gain acceptance from the Svefra (even a mark from Rak'Keli as well*pending approval). Ever since then, Dylan and Soren finally formed a solid friendship. Dylan doesn't like to admit this but his eyes did get a little watery when he finally had to say goodbye to his new Vantha friend once they reached Lhavit.
