THE GATES OF SYLIRAS
Winter 38, 515 AV

The day Syliras made its first appearance on the southern horizon, it was snowing. It was a spectacular sight, and although Faradae was still slightly unsettled by the variety of snow she’s experienced in Nyka, this one seemed harmless enough. If anything, it was beautiful, clothing the bare trees in lustrous attire. For a while, she watched as heavy clouds discharged their load of pristine little crystals over the gentle hills surrounding the city and felt their icy prick on her cheeks. The snow was hardly to be described as strong, so her plumage safely kept her warm and dry for the most part.

She temporarily forgot about the weather when she saw the tower tip of Stormhold Castle. To her understanding, it was huge. She had not seen anything like it in Nyka. And this was where all of Syliras’ population lived? She thought the castle was magnificent, although she imagined that some of the citizens lived so far inside, they hardly ever saw the sunlight.

Letting herself drop a little lower, the bird corrected her course eastwards, towards the direction of the gates. The city, now towering over her, seemed even larger than it had from above, and she felt a little uncertain she’d be able to find Ball even if she got directions.

She landed close to the gates, between a couple bushes, carefully placing the letter leftovers on the ground. It was a little pitiful, really. Two of the three letters had gone missing, only the one to Ball remained. A few splashes of water had stained the parchment, unhindered by the case she’d brought, but it was still readable.

It was then that she noticed something she’d missed in her planning. An important detail, tiny, yet crucial. How on earth was she to obtain clothes? She had not brought anything along, and she currently held no money to afford a simple dress, either. Next time, she would slip a few mizas into her letter casing. They were not extremely heavy, and a little bit was more than enough to keep her well-dressed.

She was wiser now, but her situation remained unchanged. Going back was not an option. All she could do was go ahead and face it. She shifted into human form, shivering in the icy weather, and nude save for the letters in her palm, and stepped out of the undergrowth. The guards’ eyes grew round. They were obviously slightly unsettled by the sudden appearance of a naked woman trying to pass into their city, and pondering whether to laugh, feel vicariously embarrassed, let her pass to see what would happen or simply stab her to solve the problem.

It did not keep her from approaching them. “I’m a courier”, she stated, waving the letter in her left hand around and completely ignoring the obvious problem. “And I need to find a squire named Ball. Would you be so friendly as to give me directions?”

The guards had settled for a civil approach.
“Lady,” one of them started, staring into her face with some effort, “I really advise you to don some clothes before entering the city.”

Her spirits sank. How expected.
“You know,” she told them, “I did not skip clothing this morning because I thought it was so nice and warm outside.” They probably considered her mad, but in the face of her mission and the climate, she could hardly care less. “I simply don’t have anything to wear right now, and I really need to access the city.”

To her misfortune, the guards seemed rather unimpressed.

[The Gates] To Enter a City

Vivienne Clarissa
Vivienne enjoyed the nice Snowy weather of the day and it had brought her the desire to walk around the outskirts of the city although the sight her eyes and beholden made her do a double take as she approached to get a better view but swearing to herself this must not be what she was thinking it was she got a closer look.

In her Disbelief as she approached the scene she was greeted by what she had thought A Woman in the Nude flailing about a letter being apprehended by two male guards. "Ma'am i will assume you know that having no clothing on is...well for one not a good idea people could get all sorts of ideas and two illegal so im going to ask you to wear this and tell me why you have no clothes on yourself before this two men avert there eyes" She glared back at the guards who looked exceedingly embarrassed and handed the woman her cloak which would be good enough to cover her until she could find some real clothes for the other girl.

"You Said you were looking for the Squire Ball if i heard correctly ma'am i myself am a squire and could direct you there myself perhaps after you tell me what brings you here in the cold, and how you arrived in....such a manner" she blushed slightly almost feeling sorry for the two men that apprehended her.

Indicating the woman to follow her Vivienne sighed deeply it would be a burden on her conscience to let this lady running around a city with only a cloak on her the looks she would get if she told her caretaker of this would surely spoil anything else she had done.

Faradae
Faradae was about to become unhealthily disrespectful when a young girl stepped in on the scene. She was white, like clouds, not like snow. She was too round for snow, and her features too soft. There was a striking beauty about her, hard to describe with words, almost inhumanly so. The latter aspect was also fuelled by the utter whiteness of the girl. Everything about her blended into winter, save for the eyes, little drops of ink on a parchment, or tears in the sky. She looked young, but that did not keep her from performing an act of generosity.

Even her hair resembled the long, silver clouds of windy mornings. It was revealed when the young girl lifted the hood of her cloak from her head. Without as much as a giggle, she informed Faradae of her misstep and ridded herself of the warm garment, revealing simple, yet functional clothing underneath.

“Thank you,” Fara simply said, almost looking as baffled as the guards, who followed her every movement as she slipped into the cloak, mouths agape. She granted them a smile. “Thanks for your help, good sirs, but I believe I found a different guide." She held her head high as she walked past them, following the young squire.

“Thanks,” she repeated, once they were out of sight of the gates, and the embarrassment sunk in only now. “I apologize you had to see that, and I really appreciate what you did for me. I’ll pay you back somehow.” Although she currently did not yet know how to accomplish that. Instead, she focused on more imminent matters. “My name is Faradae,” she introduced herself and proceeded to tell her story. “I hail from Nyka, and as you may have heard earlier, I’m here with a message for a squire named Ball. As for my unusual situation,” and here she decided to trust the girl, because surely such a friendly young being could not pose any threat, “I’m a Kelvic courier, which allows me to become a bird and fly. I did not bring anything along to wear here, hence my lack of proper attire.” She still couldn’t believe she’d really forgotten about clothing. “Once I deliver my message, I’ll be able to pay my dues and buy a set of clothes.” It was a shame she could not simply bring the clothes along as she travelled. She’d have to keep a set of clothing in every place she wanted to visit, or know someone there who’d provide it for her. She could hardly hope to come upon a friendly soul like this young girl on each and every occasion.

“But now tell me, what is your name, generous lady?”

While the other woman spoke, they walked down one of the lanes leading from the gates to Stormhold Castle. As they drew closer, she marvelled at the building’s perfection, the smoothed stone worlds, the hundreds of little windows. It was a beautiful structure, and it seemed huge when viewed from the ground. She could not wait to see it from inside.

Vivienne Clarissa
"Vivienne Clarissa ma'am Squire of the order, A kelvic you say how fascinating come the years ive only heard stories of the kelvic the shapeshifters who can become animals at will i was unsure if they were experienced mages or just an interesting rumor but it seems i was mistaken, Anyway it was fine saving maidens is all in a knights Duty its something i may have to get used too". Chuckling Vivienne covered her mouth and coughed softly. "if it pleases you there is a clothing shop that we could perhaps visit and after you recieve payment you could pay me back afterwards and we could" She paused thinking of the hilarity of the situation. "Perhaps we could have a discussion of sorts in less....Uniuqe circumstances once you deliver your message". Smiling a close lipped smile she stopped they were inside the castle now only slightly and she shivered slightly. "Now where is that clothes shop..."

Faradae
“Vivienne Clarissa…” there was silence for but a moment as Faradae contemplated the name. It sounded noble, suiting the young squire’s appearance quite well. “A beautiful name,” she said, before falling silent while Vivienne rattled on about Kelvics and knightly duties. There was something childish to the way she laughed, and once again Faradae asked herself just how many summers this woman had seen in her life.

‘Probably more than myself’, she thought. She would never judge others based on their age, but Vivienne sent her wondering nonetheless.

“I’m not an experienced mage,” she admitted, “nor a rumour, as you can see.” She burst a smile. “But I can’t really explain how it works. The shapeshifting is an ability I’ve always possessed, and while both shapes are natural to me, if prompted, I’d tell you I’m a buzzard, rather than a human. I never learnt to shift my shape, nor do I have to invoke mysterious powers. It’s simply part of me, and as far as I can tell, that goes for all Kelvics.” It was a bold assumption, considering that her experience only spanned two Kelvics, one of which was herself.

She breathed a sigh of relief when Vivienne suggested visiting a clothing store and offered to lend her the required money until she had delivered her message.
“That would be wonderful,” she replied and followed the young lady into the Castle, where it was just as cold as outside. Faradae figured that the broad entrances into the heart of Syliras let in too much of the wintery air to make heating the outskirts viable. It would probably warmer as they advanced deeper into the building. She could see her companion shiver underneath her clothing, and felt a little guilty underneath the thick cloak she had tightly wrapped around herself. The fact that Vivienne now stopped in the middle of a draughty hallway in lack of directions hardly improved the situation. “I’m afraid I can’t really aid you,” she apologized, “this is the first time I’ve come to Syliras.”
