Savis Maren does not keep the same appearance for very long. The undead prefers to inhabit the bodies of females, a habit not yet meted out of her by the passage of time. However, Savis Maren does not have control over which body she takes while living in the city of Lhavit, as per her arrangement with the Constellations. Invariably, the undead will carry the scents of perfumes processed from the flowers of the mountain. This scent is used for the purpose of disguising the pungent aroma of the ethanol/formaldehyde hybrid of embalming fluid that she cleanses her body with every ten days. Bandages are nearly always wrapped around her arms and legs, coated with perfume and embalming fluid in equal measure.

The Nuit, while she does switch bodies, possesses characteristics that jump from form to form. She possesses piercing, silver eyes that are devoid of life and normally deprived of expression, as well. Her lips, gums, and mucous membranes are all jet-black from the presence of undeath about her. Savis Maren also possesses heavy black bags beneath her eyes, born from swelling characteristic of the shroud of the Daek-nuit.

Savis Maren is a creature that acclimates to circumstance. She possesses a heavily abrasive nature out of necessity, for the common reaction to her appearance and status as an undead is one of fear or disdain. As a result of eight decades of familiar distaste and disrespect at the hands of mortals, Savis Maren has adopted an equally severe prejudice of others, fearing that they will mistreat, insult and disrespect the Nuit. While the shroud of undeath invokes within Savis a natural inclination towards a cold and calculating existence, her inner self remains untouched by it. To most, her abrasive personality will strike them as impertinent and disrespectful, but it is nothing but a shield meant to protect her heart from the hatred of mortality and the depth of how severely it affects her. Probing deeper into the Nuit, one will find a grateful heart that craves interpersonal relationships that blossom past the threshold of mutual understanding and to the reaches of friendship. Experiences carve the perception of the world around Savis (as it would with anyone), and as a result, she finds that racism steeps deeply into her psyche. The following list is Savis' general opinion about the races she is aware of.

  • Ethaefal - Generally, Savis Maren detests members of this race more than others, bordering on even an irrational hatred of them. Savis feels the immortality and beauty afforded to the Ethaefal an insult to the hideous existence she leads. Ethaefal, by virtue of their perfection, insult Savis' sensibilities at the same time as they enthrall her. Her natural vanity and love for beauty draws Savis to the sight of the Ethaefal, but she hates them all the same. The conflict in feelings for these beautiful creatures causes Savis a great deal of emotional distress.
  • Eypharian - Savis knows very little about the Eypharian, but their lovely visages and the kind nature of Haneht has endeared the Nuit to this race. As stated, however, she knows very little about them aside from the fact that they have multiple arms and hail from a place called Eyktol.
  • Ghost - Savis has limited exposure to ghosts, having only met Jomi and Emma, both servants of Madeira Craven. Seeing two starkly different beings kept out of the reincarnation cycle through their sheer force of will confuses the Nuit and she finds herself judging ghosts less by their race and more by the content of their character. So far, it's hit and miss with the ethereal undead.
  • Human - As the most common race and the one Savis was once a part of, she finds conflicting feelings about mankind. She treasures companionship, but despises disrespect and finds that the latter hatred overtakes any desire to foster meaningful bonds. Humans that can breach her cold exterior find themselves accepted and even loved by the undead.
  • Jamoura - Savis has very limited experience with these massive primate creatures. However, that limited experience has her disliking them tremendously, due to nearly being trampled by an anemic, clumsy Jamoura known as Leshi. Due to this very limited experience, her view on the peaceful and kind Jamoura is skewed.
  • Konti - Unlike most of the races of Mizahar, Savis' experiences with Konti are purely positive and until she finds an unlikeable member of this race, she sees them as a whole as pleasant beings with whom she'd openly form positive relationships with.
  • Nuit - Being a part of this unnatural, cold and unstable race, Savis Maren holds a great measure of suspicion for other Nuit. She spent several years on the island of Sahova and decades before that in service to a Nuit master Animator who stole Savis from the clutch of death and essentially enslaved her. The experiences Savis has had with her own kind have created a disdain for other undead, but the irony of this dislike does not escape her. Other Nuit, if she meets one again, will generally be treated with respect, but she will do her utmost to expel any Nuit that enters Lhavit from the city. This is less due to her dislike and more due to an inherent fear of competition for the frankly lacking number of available corpses in Lhavit.
  • Zith - Savis Maren does not see Zith as a race of people. To her, they are animals, monsters and horrible, evil beings driven by bloodlust and bedlam. If it were up to Savis, the entirety of these things would be expunged from the world, and she feels as if no one would miss them. She's probably right.


Savis' outlook on unlife is that of ambition. While the Nuit sees people as harsh, unforgiving and generally to-be-avoided, the exposure her unnaturally long life has given her to magic has inspired her to persevere. Like most of her kind, the Nuit requires something to keep her invested in the existence she holds, and understandably, the notion of reincarnation is one she's come to terms with but ignores in favor of retaining the understanding she's amassed in her current existence. Savis Maren is utterly fascinated with djed and how proprietary knowledge of it and the numerous methods of manipulating it can elevate a being from a mundane understanding of what's possible to something... more. Savis sees magic as the light in the midst of her dreary existence, and its pursuit mirrored in other minds is the foremost factor that drives the Nuit to form meaningful relationships with other people. However, in the same vein of hunger for knowledge, an understanding of mundane craftsmanship, artistic talent, or an industrious nature will also call to the Nuit and expose to others a side that few have the opportunity to witness. As of the Winter of 518, Savis' search for contemporaries has broadened. With one staunch alliance (with Madeira Craven) secured, she also seeks after other individuals who can heighten her understanding of the world around her as well as companions with which to explore the rich worlds of art and culture that the city of Lhavit affords to its inhabitants. With such opportunities never offered to her before, Savis Maren treasures her citizenship and unerringly keeps to the conditions of her existence within Lhavit.

Savis Maren is a cold, calculating and eternal being. The rigors of undeath have rendered her impassive and uncaring of the concerns that normally plague mortals. With no need for sleep, food, rest of any kind, or breath, she walks the earth as a shadow of a living being. The Nuit's status creates hollows within her mind, emotions such as empathy and compassion nullified to the barest of concerns. Savis Maren's personality has not been entirely erased by her conversion into undeath. However, the traits that remain have been grossly exaggerated. Vanity has turned almost violent in nature, with the trait very deeply imprinting itself into every aspect of herself. It is vanity that influences all of her relationships, her dress, the places she goes and indeed, the choices she makes.

The irony in vanity is that Savis Maren, given her undead state, can never consider herself beautiful. This creates a very perverse paradox within her existence, where she uses herself as the measuring post between ugliness and beauty. There are scars within Savis' mind and she does not pretend that her musings are rational, but they exist and she has to confront the fact that she herself is no longer a being fully bound to reason as her first and foremost influence.

As of Autumn of 518, cracks have begun to form in her personality, cracks she is very much aware of. Savis' reason crumbled as she wasted away in a rotting corpse with no means of shifting to a new one. She managed to survive the ordeal, but the fissures have formed rifts between her mind and her sense of reality, with her at times lashing out verbally or even magically when her perceptions are challenged anew.

Savis Maren is abrasive as an outward defense mechanism. Her Nuit nature often draws the ire and disgust of those about her. The Nuit emits a dark aura about her, her pointed gaze often narrowing in distaste until she becomes familiar with those who share her space. Savis is a dark soul at the surface, shrouding herself in the obvious macabre nature of undeath, but deep within her psyche there still exists the vulnerable and all-too-human girl that undeath left untouched. If someone befriends Savis, they'll find that humanity intact, deep curiosity and a pleasant, loving nature buried deep within her unbeating heart.

Timeline

429 AV - Savis Maren is diagnosed with an incurable condition that robs her of feeling in her feet and steadily rising higher along her limbs.

431 AV, Spring - Desperate for a solution, Savis' parents turn to magic and are quickly informed that Savis' condition is incurable. In exchange for their daughter's life, they are forced to give her away to her savior, a mysterious Animator who promised that their daughter's life was not going to be wasted on sickness.

431, Autumn - New to her condition as a Nuit, Savis becomes accustomed to her existence, finding her state to be pitiable at best. Falling into a depression, the Nuit considers taking her own life only for her attempts to be thwarted by her master.

432, Winter - Convinced that her unlife was preferable to death, Savis finds herself returning to the world and serves as the assistant of her master, an ancient Nuit and a Master animator.

432 AV - 467 AV: Savis spends more than thirty years serving and traveling with her master without incident. However, his needs increase and her education into the magical arts begins with instruction in Auristics. Animation and Glyphing quickly follow, but her tutelage is slow and self-serving, meant only to assist the efforts of her master.

468 AV: While in transit from Cyphrus to Sylira, Zith swarm the campsite Savis and her master created. He is killed in the attack, but Savis trudges onward. Free from her servitude, Savis gathers what she can and makes way to Zeltiva, unaware of how long she'd been away from home.

469 AV: Savis finds that her parents passed away several years before. With little else to keep her on, the possibility of suicide rises again, but she convinces herself otherwise. She lives on in an effort to grow her knowledge, having found a taste for magic and seeking to further her study.

470-476AV: Savis migrates to Sahova, where she finds some measure of tutelage in the arcane, but is relegated to servitude once again. Here, she is granted an opportunity to learn Projection and takes to it rather fondly.

477-517AV: Savis becomes disillusioned with Sahova and is ejected from the island. Alone again, she wanders for years, finding homes in different provinces within Sylira.

518AV: Savis' practice is neglected for years in Sylira and she chooses to return to Kalea, settling on Lhavit as her intended home.

Tunes is a once-ordinary notebook given a voice through the magic of Animation. Savis has programmed the book with the knowledge of two languages and also with directives that command it to read the contents of a page touched on the top left corner. Otherwise, if not commanded to do anything and propped up so that its strings can strum correctly, the book will speak and talk autonomously, with a personality and voice born from Lhavit's own song and storybird, Mauriel. Tunes possesses a very sassy disposition, quite haughty and eager to express itself.


The Voice Box :

The Voice Box is four inches tall and wide, its surface embossed with grooves and painted over with small letters. The purpose of this cube is to receive commands by touch and form words using a system of wires and a tongue-like leather appendage inside of the cube. It does not speak without first processing commands and has several directives involved in its method for processing and transmitting speech. Its primary (only) function is to receive such inputs and transmit them vocally, possesses no capacity for independent thought or knowledge beyond that of the Common language and a sense of touch.

Savis commissioned a gadget from Edward Lucis that resembles the shape and functionality of the human arm. The gadget is thin and lithe, but possesses an anatomically correct semblance to an arm from the points of the fingers to the middle of the upper arm, before the shoulder. It measures twenty-two inches in length, but can be folded at the joints to occupy less than half the space. The arm weighs four pounds and while made of metal and wire, it is vulnerable to moderate forces.

Savis has since animated the Gadget Arm with the help of Raeyn, who acted as the Source for its movements. The Gadget arm moves on command from Savis, functioning identically to a human arm. It has flaps in the design that allow for it to perceive sounds.

The Gadget Arm possesses four main directives and is compiled with knowledge of the Common tongue that it uses to obey instructions. The word 'Breathe' activates the Gadget Arm, while the word 'Cease' deactivates it.


Wheels :

Savis commissioned yet another automaton from Edward Lucis. Wheels is a servant that takes the form of a three-foot tall metal stand with a door and hollowed compartment used for storage. At the top of the base is a mirror that acts as the mechanical servant's eye, capable of limited movement from side to side in order for it to follow its directives. Wheels is imbued with three primary directives, with the capacity to speak and understand Common with the use of a stringed mechanism located in its hollow compartment.

Wheels has four spherical wheels at its base that allows it to move in strange patterns not available to automatons with legs or single direction wheels. The automaton is programmed to follow Savis Maren and follow her verbal instructions. Wheels is always 'on', but will not move unless the command 'Abase' is spoken to it. The compartment is controlled with a different word, that being 'Radjud'. There is no traditional lock on the compartment, but it will use what strength its capable of to keep the compartment closed to access unless that command is spoken aloud.


Sil :
Created Here -->**Sil was a mannequin-like doll purchased from Lucis and Lucis in Lhavit. Given movement through the use of Animation, Sil responded to simple verbal commands. He has joints on each of his elbows, knees, and feet, allowing him limited movement. Sil activates when his name is spoken by Savis Maren and only follows her commands. When Savis Maren says, 'Roza', Sil fell out of motion and falls to the floor. Notably, Sil is incapable of standing on his own, lacking both joints in his shoulders and the intellectual capacity to know how to do so.

Madeira Craven

Madeira Craven is a Spiritism master hailing from a powerful family from Alvadas. Brought to Lhavit as a pawn to serve the function of cementing an alliance between two families, the Spiritist performs her service to the city dutifully. Her and Savis met at the Silk Palace, and immediately Madeira takes note of the Nuit in the room. Instead of being repelled by her undeath, however, she is enthralled and initiates contact. Through clever use of persuasion and some hypnotic influence, she breaches the Nuit's defenses and catches her off guard. After, Madeira invites Savis to live with her on the large, private property of Infinity Manor, using her sharp wit and silver tongue to make the idea palatable to the anti-social undead.

Savis and Madeira are bound to one another through necessity. Madeira offers resources by means of habitation, physical resources, and a sharp-witted ally, where Savis is a piece of the puzzle that Madeira is forming to achieve her aspirations of political success. A blooming friendship has since soured and the two remain bound to one another, knowing that their dark hearts share similar paths and that the two will only succeed together.
 
Mauriel

Mauriel is a beautiful, eternal Ethaefal that Savis met in the halls of Bharani Library. The two came off to a very rough start, with Savis' abrasive nature meeting the inability for Mauriel to withstand her presence. However, the two seemed to have found an understanding of one another. Interested in utilizing her qualities as a songbird to her advantage, the Nuit insisted on teaching Mauriel a basic understanding of Animation provided that the Lethaefal allowed Savis to use her as a Source.

As of Winter 518, Savis and Mauriel's relationship has taken a far more personal turn. The two have realized that their pasts are intertwined, and the emotions bubbling up between the both of them, while not fully addressed, binds them together in an undeniable way.
 
Haneht

Savis and Haneht meet in Alheas Park during a particularly foggy day in the midst of the wild djed incident of the Summer of 518 in Lhavit. Savis, already plagued with a failing voice, found a companion in the swirling fogs and sought to work with Haneht to exit Alheas Park safely. The two parted ways rather abruptly, but the Nuit holds very fond memories of her very short time with Haneht. More recently, in the early Winter of 518, Savis receives a letter from Haneht and writes back in an effort to rekindle a tragically short association.
 
Jomi

Jomi is a ghost who came to Lhavit along with Madeira Craven. As a servant to the powerful Spiritist, Jomi lived in Infinity Manor and was an entity known, but not met, by the Nuit until one fateful night. A brutal killing on the property of Infinity Manor brought the pair together in an investigation. Coerced by Jomi to join him in the aforementioned investigation and continuously berated by the ghost, Savis Maren holds a deep dislike for the ghost and even offered a grieving, hateful Spiritist known as Rostam an opportunity to do with the ghost as he pleased. Only time can tell how this relationship will evolve.
 
Raeyn

Raeyn and Savis Maren meet in the halls of Bharani Library. The Nuit's dislike for prying eyes convinces her to ask Raeyn to move from an isolated table and allow her to utilize the space. Raeyn, sensing that the Nuit wishes for solitude for reasons of an arcane or otherwise dubious nature, refuses. Savis and Raeyn reach a compromise, allowing the Nuit to use the space provided that Raeyn is party to whatever she plans to do. Savis agrees, and tutors Raeyn in basic Animation in exchange for using him as a Source for an Animation.
 
Edward Lucis

Relationship: Business Associate/Former Employer (NPC - Link)

Savis and Edward Lucis met in a rather distraught time of the Nuit's life. Rendered mute by the effects of wild djed within the city of Lhavit, Lucis finds compassion for the cold undead in his heart and offers her a job as a clerk. However, the Nuit's significant exposure to wild djed due to repeated use of magic renders her unable to return to work after a certain point in the season due to the severity of those effects. Lucis assumes that Savis abandoned her position and life in Lhavit and hires a new clerk. When Savis returns to the world and to Lucis and Lucis to apologize to the master Gadgeteer, she hands him a resignation which is met by the news of her non-existent employment. The two have a laugh and from there, the two develop a business relationship, where they work together to create automatons to Savis' specifications.
