Roulette hadn't really had much experience, if at all, in regards to res. So seeing Kamilla produce the red spikes was something else to witness. But hearing and seeing them whizz past? She yelped a little when the noise of the spike's passing sounded off. That was scary! Of course, as each missed, she could not help but notice that the woman seemed to take extra precautionary measures. Seeing that she stepped back a few paces, and appeared to reach for a weapon of some sort. It looked like a... A fan? What kind of fan was that?! There were sharp blades on the decorative part. Had the kelvic not heard the first of the monkeys getting too close, she would have stayed staring at the iron fan.

But it was not a good time to gawk. It was prepared to fight, or possible die having tried to fight. Either way, there was no more time to think. The collision from the first baboon hit hard. It hurt. It truly, and honestly hurt. The slam would likely leave more bruises on top of the ones she already sustained. However, the bite to the monkey's shoulder was her first attempt to clamp down and let instinct take over. With a wild, yet pained, screech - Roulette had ahold of the baboon's shoulder. She had planted her paws as hard as she could into the earthy trail and wildly thrashed around with her neck in an attempt to shake the poor thing enough to make it want to back off and leave.

Again, it wasn't her intention to kill the baboon. She wanted the three of them to simply leave. A flash of pain hotly ripped into her black fur pelt though as the monkey in her jaws managed to scratch her right flank. It hurt, but she did not let go. Instead, she thrashed harder and more violently. But then a second body was on top of her. Which slowed the thrashing some, but not completely. She let go of the first in order to try and buck the second monkey off her back, more angered growls came from her and she snapped her head from side to side to try to get the second one off her. They sure were strong though! As the third one approached, she felt a sense of fear trickle down her throat. Was she going to die here in this cave? What about the woman?

Kamilla Circe Gordon

It only took a few ticks for the first of the monkeys to make contact with the kelvic dog, slamming into the poor woman with significant force that even Kamilla could tell was painful. The kelvic returned the favor by clamping her jaws down on the monkey that let out a loud screech of pain as it was thrashed about, desperately trying to scratch its way to freedom. It seemed that the kelvic was quite vicious, as expected of someone who could turn into a dog. Regardless, Kamilla was grateful to not be facing the rabid primates alone.

Still preparing herself and res for the next of the monkeys, Kamilla was surprised when the second decided to pile on the poor kelvic as well, the third fast approaching. She’d definitely need to intervene.

Having produced a handful of res behind her back by now, Kamilla considered throwing another spell in the monkey’s direction but didn’t want to risk hitting her ally, the kelvic. Even a blast of wind had the potential of hurting her rescuer, something she wasn’t willing to risk. Instead, the mage closed the gap with quick steps until the trio of animals was right in front of her and swung her iron fan horizontally across, doing her best to aim above the kelvic so as not to hit her accidentally.

A loud how of pain could be heard as the blades of the fan easily sliced through the flesh of the monkey that hadn’t been bit, leaving a long crimson line along its back that quickly began to pour blood, white fur being tainted red. The pain caused the creature to freeze in shock, jumping off and away from the kelvic while already looking dazed and confused. Thank gods she’d hit her mark.

There was no time to celebrate as soon enough the third of the monkeys was leaping towards her, flying over the kelvic and it’s own ally in an attempt to get at Kamilla. This time, however, the mage was prepared, swinging her free hand out from behind her and pointing it straight at the airborne primate, the handful of res shaping itself into a thin one foot spike and quickly being fired. As soon as she’d imposed her directional force on the res, Kamilla transmuted it to stone, the spike hitting the monkey straight in the chest and sending it flying backwards through the air, landing with a lifeless thump, having being impaled by the spell.

The other monkey seemed to be limping and disorientated from the cut it received, which was still bleeding profusely, leaving bloody marks all over the cave floor, it’s dead companions life fluid pooling as well. Good. There was only one to go as Kamilla tried her best to keep her eye on it and the kelvic as they continued to fight. It was too risky for her to swing her iron fan at the two who were moving way too much.

Because I'm Happy, I'm Grateful

Roulette didn't hear Kamilla's approach as all her focus was purely on fighting off the baboons. The first, while dazed, hadn't gone back to immediately attacking her. Which left only a few ticks to thrash a little bit trying to dislodge the monkey on her back. And just ticks before the third came closer, she suddenly felt her back was free of the second's weight. But she did not have time to stop and look around in confusion because the first had recovered and was back at it. A flash of teeth and claws later announced she was fighting again with the first. Angry snarls and vicious growls erupted from the kelvic's muzzle as jaws snapped repeatedly.

She did not have time to see how the woman was doing. Nor really pay attention to the iron fan blade's coming down hard on the flesh of the second monkey. Or that the third monkey was dead on the earthy trail, from the transmuted res spike. But she did smell blood. The air became thick with it. It caused the hackles on her shoulders to rise uncomfortably. Whose blood was it? Becoming distracted for just a tick was a mistake waiting to happen.

As soon as she turned toward the woman to look for her, make sure she was alright, Roulette felt an incredibly painful bite to the nape of her neck. The monkey had almost gotten ahold her neck completely. Just barely missing its mark. But that didn't mean it didn't have ahold of her somehow. It might have been skin the monkey had, but it still hurt worse than the scratches to her right flank. She let out a resounding and pained yelp. The thrash the baboon did in return knocked her for a loop. She became momentarily stunned and felt a fresh wave of intense pain as claws dug into her back. The damn thing had wrapped itself around her!

Panic set in at that point. She thrashed around wildly in an attempt to shake it off her, but the damn thing had its teeth securely held there. The thrashing made it hurt worse as she desperately tried hard to shake loose. A few ear-splitting yelps erupt from her as the baboon's claws sink into her fur. If it wasn't black, it would have been painted an angry blood red hue. Droplets of her blood trickled and pooled around as she twisted and turned this way and that violently. And as fueled by adrenaline as she was, she did have limits.

Her thrashes became less pronounced, and her body seemed to sag a with the weight of the monkey. As much as she tried her hardest not to be pushed onto her back, she stumbled into the nearby wall. Was it going to end like this? Damn, this was a sorry way to go if that was the case! Exhaustion from the fight had started to set in. One leg caved in under the weight, then the others. Soon after, she found herself heaving from the effort, laying on her side as the monkey bit harder. This time releasing her neck and biting her right shoulder as it tried and failed to bite into her throat. Roulette let out a strangled yelp and tried her best to push it off with all four paws. But it was useless. The teeth that sank into her flesh hurt badly! She didn't have much strength left in her though by that point.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

With one of the monstrous monkeys seemingly out of the fight and the second clearly dead, things were finally beginning to look for the unlikely duo of ladies, only one of the relentless creatures remaining within the confines of the cave. It was two against one and the kelvic woman had already landed a very successful bite on the primate’s shoulder so Kamilla couldn’t see it lasting much longer. Unfortunately, she could not have been more wrong.

Still standing nearby the tussle with her iron fan drawn, Kamilla waited anxiously for her chance to strike at the monkey, ready to do so the moment the it was still enough for her to be sure she wouldn’t hit the kelvic. She’d thought that the fight would finally be slowing down to a halt until, the monkey decided to return the kelvic’s favor, singing its teeth deep into the back of the dog’s neck and drawing a pained whine that made even Kamilla wince. The kelvic then began to buck and wriggle in a desperate attempt to free itself from the monkey’s jaws but with very little success as the primate seemed intent on holding on no matter what.

It was a gruesome sight to see, two animals fighting to the death and even though Kamilla knew it was only natural in the jungle, this wasn’t that kind of situation, not by a long shot. The kelvic woman had been the one that rushed to her aid when the monkeys started their fruity bombardment and she’d not fled even as things got worse. It was Kamilla’s fault the kelvic was even in this mess and yet she was just standing and watching as the monkey did it’s best to bring the woman down.

Having had enough of her inaction once the kelvic had been brought down by the continuous attack from the monkey, even going so far as to aim another bite at the poor woman’s neck, Kamilla was forced forwards and into action. As she neared the two animals, she shit her fan in one swift motion, holding it above her head with both hands and then thrusting it down into the monkey’s side with as much force as her exhausted body could handle.

What a sorry sight the two women must have been, both of them covered in rancid fruit, bruised and bleeding. The kelvic on the ground and Kamilla so exhausted and out of breath that she’d collapse to her knees at any moment, the bite to her thigh staining her pants with blood. She’d only been trying to find a cave in search of a fish, how had things taken such a drastic turn.

Because I'm Happy, I'm Grateful

As Roulette tried everything to fight the monkey off her right shoulder, the pain was damn near blinding. And the worse part was, her muscles felt like they were on fire from sheer exhaustion. She didn't see Kamilla's approach, nor registered her iron fan's strike against the baboon until the teeth and claws released her tired black form. Heaving desperately for breath, seeing the woman was alright was more than she could have asked for. The monkey flailed for a good few ticks before it became motionless.

How did the day go so wrong? All she had aimed to do was some exploring. The nearest place was the cave. Roulette never expected the day to become so violent so fast the way it did. But then again, she would not have changed her course even if she could go back and change something. The kelvic looked up at the woman and wagged her tail weakly before giving a small whine. Then she set her maw on top of her right front paw while she panted for breath.

She didn't have the energy to shift back, so she simply laid there instead. Red eyes then took notice of the bite wound on Kamilla's leg as blood tinged the pants. Sure it was a sad sight to see both of them so utterly drained. But Roulette felt happy that the woman was at least safe. That had to count for something right? She gives her tail another round of weak wagging for Kamilla. Seeing the iron fan and blood on it, her eyes trailed to the monkey that was closest to them, and finally landed on the other two as well.

One looked like it had a spike going through its body. The other looked like it had died of sharp wounds and bled to death. The one closest to them had died of its own wounds that both she and the woman inflicted. In the pit of her stomach, she felt bad for the three of them. She had not intended for them to die, but it had happened. She felt grateful for both women being alive sure but felt sad all the same that the three baboons were dead. Roulette didn't really have too much energy right then to pad over properly to Kamilla, but she does her best and ends up half dragging half padding towards the woman before she plopped down next to her.

With her wet nose, she prods carefully around the woman's leg wound and gave a small whimper. In a way, she was trying to ask if Kamilla was alright or not. Whether or not this was understood though she wasn't entirely sure. But she would likely stand laying here beside the other for the time being. She felt too reluctant to move much. Her ears twitched and drew back some as she listened to the rest of the troop members outside the trail's entrance. They seemed to be leaving thankfully, and she felt grateful for the reprieve.

Relief. That was all that Kamilla could feel as she watched the final of the monster monkeys slump to the ground, hopefully to never get up again. Somehow her day had gone from searching for a cave to fighting for her life inside a cave, alongside a kelvic, against a pack of monkeys. Even the gods themselves wouldn’t have been able to convince the mage that this was how her day would turn out, but finally, it was over.

Initially she’d been worried that the rest of the pack would decide to follow suit after the duo of women had finally dealt with the trio of primates, but fortunately this was not the case. Looking up to see the pack calm down, discouraged by the outcome of the skirmish and thankfully turn around and disappear into the bushes. ”I... HATE... monkeys.” The words were huffed out between ragged breaths. While prior to the ordeal, Kamilla might have been indifferent to the species of mammal, but now she could say without a doubt that she despised them.

Once the fight seemed to be over and the rest of the pack retreated, Kamilla finally allowed her legs to give in, slumping to the ground weakly as the effects of the adrenaline ran out and all the pain that had been limited by it flooded over her body. Everything hurt. Every part of her body was sore, bruised or both from the onslaught of rancid fruit, which both herself and the kelvic were still covered in. Her lungs hurt from the exertion, each breath ragged, stinging her throat and her leg, there was a faint burning sensation but thankfully the long seemed to have numbed. It was a blessing in disguise, or at least that was how Kamilla felt. She really didn’t think she’d be able to handle the pain of the bite wound on top of everything else.

Doing her best to push her own pain aside, Kamilla watched as the kelvic dog dragged her way over to where she was sitting. ”Thank you... I wouldn’t have survived that if not for you.” The kelvic seemed to respond by poking at Kamilla’s injured leg and although the mage wasn’t nearly as good at reading canine dog language as she was with felines, she felt the message was quite clear.

Letting out a weak attempt at a reassuring smile, Kamilla finally forced herself to drop the iron fan she was still clutching tightly in one oh her hands, before poking at her own leg and moving her foot. ”It’s numb but I can still move it, so I think I’m okay. What about you? They really piled up on you.” She wondered why the kelvic chose to remain in dog form, but she would not question the women, she’d already done more than enough. ”Thank you... really. I’m grateful.” The words were genuine, although Kamilla was far from happy about needing to be saved once again. Her list of inadequacies seemed infinite at this point.

Because I'm Happy, I'm Grateful

It felt damned great to be able to lay down and just not move for a time. Roulette's black, flipped forward ears would swivel around in their respective ranges as if still trying to listen for the troop even though they had thankfully left. Never could be too careful right? If they decided to come back, then the pair would likely be worse off if not dead. She didn't know about Kamilla, but Roulette felt too damn exhausted to budge. The woman might hate the baboons, but she felt a newfound and very health respect for them.

Especially after getting her ass beat. It did not, however, mean that she would fear them. Far from it actually. But next time, she would probably watch from a safe distance. Unless someone else got into trouble. Then she would try to help them too. Maybe this was fool hearty thinking. And frankly almost got her killed. At least she was able to help though, even if in a small way. The woman was safe, and the rest of the troop had left after the skirmish ended. She felt happy about the safety of Kamilla and herself, grateful both were alive to see another day, yet saddened that three monkeys had to die to achieve this.

She would take this experience to heart though. Life was precious after all. After the iron fan was released from Kamilla's hand and the woman finally sank to her knees, spoke and even seemed to attempt a weak but reassuring smile, it felt like everything just might be alright for the rest of that day. And hopefully the night as well! Her tail wagged weakly again as it tapped tiredly against the earthy trail that she had plopped down and laid upon. It was her only means of communication if one could call it that. Bumping her nose toward one of Kamilla's hands, she tried her best to convey she was alright too. Her body felt too drained of energy to shift back into a human form. Roulette would explain this at a later time though.

For now...

She gave the woman another light whine before turning her maw towards her own right shoulder. Now that the fighting was done and over with, the adrenaline was completely out of her system by the feeling of it. Everything hurt. From head to tail. Everything! The bite wounds on the back of her neck felt like they were still bleeding a little bit. Likely those would scar up pretty good too. The bite mark to her shoulder was pretty bad as well. It actually hurt worse than the ones on the nape of her neck.

Her shoulder was still bleeding some as she swiped her tongue over it in an attempt to clean it. But forgetting for just a tick that her body was still covered in that rancid fruit... The horrors of tasting something so awful! With her jaws open, she knocked her head back, tongue lolling to the front as she shook her muzzle a little as if she had tasted something foul. Literally, that is what she had tasted though! Dears Gods that was rancid! With one front paw, she rubbed it against the side of her muzzle and gave a whine again.

Wow, that tasted bad! It was so horrid though it motivated her aching body to drag itself, quite literally, down further into the cave! She might have had the appearance she couldn't drag herself fast enough though. Refusing to close her jaws, she kept it open. Her tongue still hanging out the front. It might have even looked hilarious to some. But she blatantly refused to close it, certain she might accidentally swallow! On her way to dragging herself to the water, she dry heaved a few times before finally reaching the fresh water where the fish were. It was momentary, but she felt bad for the fish.

Pulling herself into the fresh water felt amazing. Bruised and injured, she didn't care for a few ticks. The water just felt nice. She stayed by the edge and laid down to let the water soak in. If there was a current it would help wash away some, if not all, of the bad juices from her. Panting steadily by that point, she dipped her maw a few times as an attempt to wash out her mouth from that sour taste that lingered. Just in case Kamilla hadn't followed toward the water though, she gave off a few barks. Otherwise, Roulette was happy to be laying down in the water right then.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

The way she was currently feeling, Kamilla thought she might never move from her spot on the ground again. Everything hurt, but from where she sat now, limbs unmoving and the expanding and contracting of her chest the only real visible sign of animation, she felt as if the pain was at its lowest possible level. Getting up, moving, even thinking about doing anything seemed like a bad idea that would only lead to more pain for the moment, but at the same time she knew she couldn’t just stay there.

A groan from her dry throat as common sense won out over the intention to remain a living statue for a while longer, watching as the kelvic weakly made her way deeper into the cave before barking in what seemed like an encouraging manner, certainly nothing like the aggression she’d heard a chime earlier. Besides the barking, Kamilla could swear she heard some splashing, her dry throat suddenly flaring up in anticipation.

Another groan escaped the mage’s lips as she finally began to move again, retrieving her iron fan before weakly pushing herself into her feet and moving towards where the kelvic had gone, a slight limp from her numb leg with every step. She’d been right, every movement caused either her overused leg muscles, her bruises or her threat to flare up in pain, most unpleasant.

As she made her way into the cave, Kamilla reached into the pack still attached to her body for her waterskin, not willing to risk drinking whatever water the cave contained. She took a big swig, gulping down the soothing liquid hungrily, out of breath by the time the waterskin left her lips. At least her throat wasn’t stinging anymore, that was one problem solved.

Arriving at the main chamber of the cave, Kamilla was surprised to see how beautiful the location was, water, fish, light streaming in from a whole in the roof of the cave. Was this the Estuary Cave she’d been searching for? The thought of all the trouble and pain she’d been through just because she was searching for the cave annoyed her. In her mind the cave itself was somewhat to blame for the ordeal.

The kelvic seemed to be enjoying the water, already splashing about, looking a lot more refreshed than before. The sight of the dog reminded Kamilla of herself and the fact that she stank like rancid fruit, the stench suddenly registering in her mind and hitting her with a flood of disgust. She raised her hand to cover her face instinctually, but it didn’t help, she was entirely coated in the stench.

Taking off her satchel and placing it on the ground, Kamilla knelt down beside the water making sure it wasn’t deeper than she was tall. ”I might just join you.” With that she placed a foot in the water, not bothering to take off her boots or anything else. Following the boot was the second then the rest of her lower half.

The water was colder than expected, a shock to the system and it added a sting to her numb leg once it reached the bite marks, crimson seeping through pants and into the water. Thankfully, from where she stood, the water only barely reached above waist, she couldn’t swim after all. A few more ticks of anticipation and Kamilla dunked herself entirely, using her hands to scrub at her skin and hair as she emerged, wanting to get every bit of the sticky fruit juice off of her.

”This is helping, thanks.” The water soothed her aches and pain, somewhat, but it was no substitute for actual medical attention, which Kamilla thought they were both in need of. ”We should head back to Syka and go see the healer, I don’t want the bite to get infected.” It did feel slightly odd to speak to the kelvic in her dog form, even though she spoke to her yowlwing Yennefer all the time.
