The late afternoon sun was bright in the skies, and while the relentless summer heat had eased, the humidity certainly had not. If anything, it had gotten worse, especially with the downpour they had received during the morning.

Sophia loved the heat, she basked in it like a lizard would, but she very much disliked humidity. Of course, living in Syka one had to tolerate it, but it didn’t mean you had to enjoy it. She just hated being sticky, and humidity was all about being sticky.

The Svefra was currently preparing to open her business. With the dawning of fall, the opening was now upon her. She had spent the summer trying to create as much stock as she could, though it had proved a lot harder than she could ever have imagined. For a start, there was the fact that she had had to learn everything from scratch. Sophia had only known how to make oils when she had begun, so figuring out how to make those oils into other useful products had been a lot of trial and error. As such, her product selection was limited, but at least nothing she was selling would accidentally poison someone.

Sophia was in her beachfront home at her desk, going through her lists on everything she had grown and created to make up her opening stock. The Svefra was getting pretty good at organising herself now, although sometimes she felt like she spent more time writing lists than she did making products. Someday she would find the perfect balance.

Figuring she had done enough list making for one day, she pushed her chair away from the desk and rose, stepping into the more open space of her home. As she did so, something hit her. Not a physical object, but more of a feeling. She stopped in her tracks as a fleeting prickling ran across her entire body, a small gasp leaving her mouth. It lasted less than a tic, but even after it had passed Sophia felt odd. She frowned, looking out over the beach. Something was different about the view from mere moments ago. Her eyeline was higher, somehow.

Confused, and sure she was imagining things, Sophia shook her head lightly and made to continue over to the lower level of her house. Only her legs didn’t work. She realised she couldn’t step, it felt as though she didn’t have two legs at all. She looked down at herself and horror flooded her body and then she was screaming.

After a moment in which the screaming did absolutely nothing to change what she could see, it trailed off into a pitiful whine before Sophia let herself fall silent. Where her legs were, she now had a snake tail, one thick enough to hold her torso upright. It looked almost comical, spilling from the skirt of her pink dress, the golden yellow scales that covered it clashing horribly against the fabric.

Cautiously, she reached down to prod the tail. Yes, she could feel it. It definitely belonged to her. As she did so, Sophia noticed that the backs of her arms were also covered in a delicate layer of the scales, fading out towards her hands. Breathing hard, she tried not to let panic overwhelm her, hands balling into fists at her sides.

Sophia was too scared to try and move again, but she couldn’t just stay standing in the middle of her house forever. Did it even count as standing if she was using a tail and not legs? Hysterical laughter bubbled out of her lips at the ridiculous thoughts her mid was throwing around. She closed her eyes, taking deep breaths and counting methodically until she felt a little calmer. She needed to find her mirror and that meant it was time to move.

It turned out that Sophia hadn’t needed to worry about trying to move at all. Her body appeared to know exactly what to do, and she felt the muscles within the tail bunching and extending while the scales along the underside gripped onto the wooden floor to provide a point to move forward from. The tail curved from side to side, propelling her across the room in a serpentine glide that was elegant and much faster than walking. It felt both natural and entirely alien at the same time, and she stopped trying to think about it too much before the notion overwhelmed her.

Quickly she managed to locate the small hand mirror, and upon raising it to her face she almost dropped it again. A strangled noise of shock left her as she stared into a face that had echoes of the one she recognised as her own, but was very clearly not the one she knew.
Eyes of molten gold, slashed through with thin black pupils stared back at her, flickering as they moved over the rest of her features. Her brow was much more pronounced, and her forehead was adorned with the same scales that covered her arms. High cheekbones were also dusted with the scales, and as her lips parted she saw two slender, long fangs where her canines used to be.

Hand shaking, Sophia returned the mirror to its crate. All she wanted to do was sit down and cry, but she didn’t know how to sit. Now that the initial shock was wearing off, confusion was settling into her mind. How on Mizahar had she turned into this… creature? What was she?! Vague memories of stories aboard her family ship stirred in her thoughts. Svefra were well travelled, always meeting new people and visiting often far-flung places. She had heard mention of snake-people before from her kin, but only briefly. Had she somehow changed race?

It didn’t seem like it should be possible, but here she was, with fangs and a snake tail. It must be magic, she couldn’t think of any other explanation. But why? Where had the magic come from. It certainly hadn’t been Sophia herself. It had to have been someone else, and as the thought dawned on her, she wondered then of the other residents of Syka. Had they been turned into snake people too?

She had to find out. Sophia immediately thought of Kamilla. She knew that the brunette knew of magics, so perhaps she might know what would cause such a thing to happen. Sophia headed for the stairs that led from her home to the beach, the speed of her movements again taking her by surprise. However upon reaching the stairs, she stopped. Can snakes use stairs? There was only one way to find out, and she was determined to make it to the cave where her friend now lived, so carefully, cautiously, Sophia started to descend.

Fall. Kamilla couldn't believe it had already been two seasons since the new year, two seasons since she'd arrived in Syka. Two seasons and yet she hadn't felt that dreaded empty feeling that had chased her for years now. Perhaps Syka truly was where she was meant to be, not that the mage believed in destiny, she figured it was far more likely that she'd simply been too busy to worry about something as trivial as an empty feeling. Since she'd arrived in the settlement she'd been faced with an array of stations and ordeals so vastly different from each other that she had almost begun to expect unexpected occurrences when things were growing too quiet, though she'd prefer not to be faced with any more wildlife.

Monkeys, nandhai, aquatic people and the scariest of all, Dhani, were all things she'd had near death experiences with in the past two seasons, the latter still appeared in her more uncomfortable dreams from time to time, bordering on nightmares.

Despite all the gloom and doom she'd still managed to survive and with ample positive occurrences as well, for the first time since her life in Sunberth, Kamilla actually had people she considered to be her friends, something that surprised even her. She'd built a very comfortable home from herself out of a small mountain/cliff and on top of everything else, she now lived in paradise. Her previous concerns of growing bored with life in secluded settlement with a very small population seemed to have vanished over her time in Syka, things were truly good.

Today though, despite her newfound bonds, Kamilla was planning on sticking to an unintentional tradition she'd developed over the years. At the turning of the season, the first day, the mage had always spent the entire day relaxing at home, and although it certainly hadn't been out of choice at first, it had become a loose tradition of hers none the less.

Currently, Kamilla was getting undressed in her cozy cave, standing beside a smooth stone bathtub of her own creation, it was placed near the open end of the cave, only two feet away from the invisible barrier that separated the 'inside' of her home from the 'outside', the only proof that the barrier was even there was the odd shimmer it gave off every now and then, like a ripple of light reflecting off of tiny shards of glass floating in mid air.

First she dipped a toe to test the waters, acutely aware of the hideous burn mark that covered her lower leg, the water was lukewarm, perfect. From there Kamilla slid the rest of her naked form into the tub, settling comfortably beneath the surface, only her head protruding. While the stone walls, floors and ceiling of the cave did a good job at keeping her home a cool temperature, Kamilla felt no need to take warm baths since she'd arrived in Syka, lukewarm suited her just fine.

Several chimes past with her staying almost completely still as she relaxed, casting appreciative glances to the side to take in the seemingly infinite blue skies outside, before her eyes eventually closed as she settled into somewhat of a meditative state, simply enjoying the lack of activity or noise… thankfully Roo seemed to be in a rare quiet mood to do.

"Uh, Kam?"

Or not.

Kamilla raised an eyebrow in annoyance at the sound of the flowers voice, not bothering to open an eye in response to the interruption, but before she could voice her annoyance she felt something… strange.

A tingling sensation, not unlike the feeling of blood rushing to a limb after its circulation had been compromised, began to spread across her body like a wave of sensation. It began at her finger and toe tips and grew until her entire body was tingling, it was not unlike the swirling of her own res when she was trying to access it, except the energy was clearly foreign and and far more intense than she'd ever experienced. The tingling sensation quickly turned to a sort of dull ache throughout as the energy swirled at her core and then with a final subsiding wave of relief, traveling in the opposite direction that the tingles had, it was gone.

Eyes shot open as Kamilla searched her home for whoever or whatever had caused the sensation, or for any visible proof but everything looked completely normal. "What happened?" She began, noticing the slightest difference in the sound of her voice, it sounded gentler, though it was to such a small degree that Kamilla was certain she'd just imagined it.

"You just started glowing and now you're uh…" The plant fell silent, seemingly at a loss for words, truly a rare occurrence for the talkative flower.

Still waiting for Roo's answer, Kamilla raised a hand out of the water and on to the side of the tub, freezing as soon as she saw the pale and adorned limb. She froze in shock for a brief moment, only able to observe the pattern of what looked like opalescent scales on her once notably scaleless arm. Regaining mobility, Kamilla brought the foreign appendage closer to her face, observing it with a mixture of awe and confusion painted on her face. What was happening?

Wanting to confirm that she wasn't hallucinating, Kamilla brought her second arm above the water's surface, seeing that it mirrored the first, as well as noticing that both her hands were kind of webbed looking, slightly. Still unconvinced that such a thing could be happening, the mage submerged her entire body under the water for a second before standing straight up in the tub, her body feeling as if it had slid through the water with an ease she'd never experienced.

Eyes now shut, Kamilla ran her hands over her face, feeling what she knew would be scales and through her wet, slick and somehow straighter feeling hair, before finally opening her eyes to investigate the rest of her body, half expecting to have woken from her daydream and half knowing she wouldn't be familiar with what she'd see. The latter had been correct. Much like her arms, the rest of her body was covered in smooth pale skin adorned by a layer of fair patterned scales running up the sides of her legs and body.

"What happened to you!?" Came the panicked voice of her pet plant, "Was it the water?"

She knew it wasn't the water, of that she was certain, as she stepped out of the bath. She'd felt the swirling energies and had no doubt they were responsible for her miraculous metamorphosis.

It turned out that snakes were perfectly capable of descending stairs. The muscles of her new tail expanded and contracted to carry her downwards, the scales along the underside offering ample grip on the wooden steps. The size of her tail was the thing that hindered her, for her stairs were not the deepest. It took her a while, a good number of chimes to descend just a few stairs, since her mind kept panicking that she would topple over or fall off them. But her body did not let her down, and eventually she was on the sand below.

The sand felt beautiful beneath her in way she had never experienced before. Sophia loved to walk along the beach barefoot, scratchy grains getting between her toes and the warmth of the golden ground on the soles of her feet. On the soft underside of her snake tail, this felt just like that only… more. The warmth of the sand was blissful, it relaxed her immediately and made her feel regenerated. She could feel the grains shifting under her weight as she moved and she wondered if snakes were like the lizards she had seen sunning themselves upon rocks.

It took her a moment to get used to moving across the sand, for the loose grains were definitely not as grippy as the wooden floor of her home. Her brain had tried to override her body and had asked it to move by pushing herself forwards, but all she achieved was to throw sand behind herself. After a brief moment in which her mind decided that she would be stuck on the beach in this exact spot forever, Sophia closed her eyes and tried to stop overthinking things. Her muscles had known what to do before, so they could do it again.

Sure enough, when she finally relaxed, rather than try to control her movements Sophia simply decided in her mind where she wanted to get to. She was aiming for the pathway that ran through the settlement, as it was the easiest way to get to her friend’s house. Instinctively her body obeyed, and she moved across the sand in a sort of sideways motion, quickly coming upon the pathway where she could resume the usual undulating motion one associated with snakes.

Once more she was amazed at the speed her new body could move. Sophia was not the fittest person by any means, and she certainly was not a very fast runner. Winding along the pathway now, she was far quicker than her top speed on two legs. As such, her journey to Kamilla’s did not take her very long at all, and she was soon able to see the neat doorway cut into the side of a cliff that led to the brunette’s home.

As she drew nearer to the door, Sophia wondered what Kamilla would look like. Would she have dark scales to match her hair? Would she stand taller than Sophia? She hadn’t seen a single other person on her journey, so there was no way of knowing just how many people in the settlement had been affected by this strange occurrence.

Sophia paused at the doorway, peering in at the staircase winding its way up and out of sight. She knew that she could go down steps, but up? Before she tried, Sophia leaned forward into the space and called up to let Kamilla know she was here.
“Kamilla?”

Sophia started to make her way up the steps, raising the front part of her body up and onto the first, tail following. She then pushed off again to rise onto the second step, and on she went, each step a little easier than the last. The stone felt cold beneath her, colder than it ever had before, but she pressed onwards for that was the least of her worries.

As she neared the top of the steps, she called out again to make sure she wasn’t going to take her friend by surprise.
“Kam, it’ss Ssssophia.”
As the words fell on her own ears, Sophia clapped her hands over her mouth. What had happened to her voice?! She had frozen near the top step, and slowly she let her hands drop back to her side. It made sense if she thought about it, her body had taken on the form of a giant snake, and her mouth definitely felt different. Snakes hissed. She supposed she should be thankful that she could speak at all.

Sophia pushed herself up onto the top step, peering into the open area that made up the main space of Kamilla’s home.
“Kamilla?”

"I don't know Roo. Some kind of magic… foreign obviously..."

The way the talking flower was behaving, one might have thought it was the one going through the transformation. Yennefer, however, cast a lazy glance in Kamilla's direction from her spot on the bed before returning to her nap. In a literal world of change, it was always comforting to see that the yowlwing's behavior remained a constant.

Smirking in amusement at the feline's traction, Kamilla's eyes drifted back to the tub, fixated on the rippling surface of water, her reflection was too distorted to see anything but colors, though just the hues alone revealed to her that a lot had changed, pale whites and yellows, dark mass in sight, which meant…

"My hair…" She began, pulling some long strands over her shoulder and in front of her face, not recognizing the soft, almost white, tone. Color aside, Kamilla noted that her once thick mass of waves had been relaxed by thin long straight strands, something she'd never experienced before. Instead of reaching down to her waste, the blonde hair reached almost below her backside, she could feel it clinging to her wet, partially scaly skin. "What on Miz is going on…"

Returning her gaze to the tub of water, it's surface now much calmer, Kamilla was presented with an almost perfect reflection of herself, eyes widening in shock. There was something deeply uncomfortable about looking at her reflection and not recognising what she saw. As she'd already determined, her skin was pale, almost porcelain, the same smooth opalescent scales ran around the sides of her face and crossed her forehead. Thankfully her facial structure hadn't changed, she was at least recognizable, though the one change that she quite liked were her eyes, two soft lavender irises peering back at her from the water, where they seemed to belong.

Still confused but at least relieved that she was still mostly herself, albeit a somewhat aquatic version thereof, Kamilla padded over to her chest of drawers, retrieving a pair of white underwear and pulling it onto her damp body. She wanted to see if the metamorphosis had spread far or if it was something exclusive to her, the knowledge wouldn't help much, but at least then she'd be able to determine either it was more likely aimed at her, or a cause of one of the many magic items she'd found since arriving in Syka, though she doubted both.

"Kamilla…"

A glance towards the door, was she imagining it? Lavender irises went to Roo who hadn't seemed to notice anything. Great. Now she eas hearing things.

"Kam, it'ss Ssssophia…"
.
This time she was sure she'd heard it, recognizing the voice but not the manner in which it spoke. "Sophia?" she called out, turning to face the dark corridor that was the entrance to her home.

She took a step towards the entrance across the cave, freezing in place as a large golden creature appeared out of the darkness, the very sight of its monstrous form causing her heart to jump and her body to numb. She recognised the beast, she'd barely survived an encounter with one a season prior. It was a Dhani.

Overcome with fear, Kamilla began to rapidly back pedal, tripping over her own feet and landing hard against the invisible barrier that separated her home from her patio, her breathing heavy, gills flaring on her neck, as she looked up at the massive creature she was now trapped with.

"Stay back!"

Despite her state of terror, something in the back of her mind told her to take another look at the monstrous serpent in her home, this time recognizing the familiar bright pink dress the creature was wearing, the very same dress Sophia had worn on her birthday. Was this creature her svefra friend? "S...Sophia?" Although she was asking, Kamilla was already fairly certain of it, it seemed that the strange magic had indeed reached farther then her home, with differing results.

Still anxious, Kamilla managed to slide herself upward against the shimmering barrier until she was back on her feet, facing the creature.

"Speech"

“Sophia?”
The voice that floated over to Sophia was definitely Kamilla’s, though there was a more… musical quality to it. It was almost imperceptible, but Sophia’s hearing picked it up easily. Her brow lowered a little as she thought. So her friend’s voice had changed too, which would lead her to believe that she had been affected by this strange magic, but it definitely didn’t sound has her own did. Did that mean that Kamilla was not a snake?

Sophia flicked her eyes up, searching the room ahead for the brunette. As Kamilla came into view, she instinctively tried to smile, though her new fangs made it rather difficult. Whatever semblance of a smile had worked onto her face quickly dropped however, as the person before her was so very different to her friend and was clearly very terrified of something.

She turned her head quickly to look behind herself, blinking once in confusion at the empty stairway. A thump from the room drew her attention back to see the Kamilla-esq blonde had tripped in her hurry to move away, and was now staring right into Sophia’s face, fear written across all of her features.
“Stay back!”

Sophia blinked again and stayed statue still where she stood. Golden eyes filled with confusion as they took in the pale skinned woman crouched as far away from her as she could get. After a few tics, the confusion was replaced with realisation as she remembered what she looked like. She must be nearly ten feet tall, with a serpentine face and a snakes tail. Sophia had no idea how to make herself look less intimidating, but she slowly raised her hands in a palm-forward, peaceful gesture and tried to coil her tail tighter to bring her a little closer to the ground, thus making herself a little shorter.

“S…Sophia?”
Relief flooded through her, and she nodded. “It’sss me.” Would she ever get used to her new voice? “It’ss me, I promissse.”
As Kamilla slowly pushed herself to her feet, Sophia studied her friend’s new form. Kamilla’s skin had paled to the colour of the lightest sand, and her hair was even whiter than that. Kamilla also had scales dusting her forehead and arms, though unlike Sophia’s they shimmered, and it was difficult to tell what colour they actually were.
“You’re a Konti.”

There was a tone of surprise sitting behind Sophia’s statement. Indeed, her friend had been changed much like she had, but Kamilla had become even more beautiful, while Sophia… well, she had not. As Sophia’s golden eyes met the, now, lavender ones of her friend, her brow dropped in an expression of worry.
“Kamilla, what’ss happened to usss?”

She made to move forwards, but stopped herself at the last minute. Sophia’s new form clearly scared Kamilla, and it hurt the Svefra to see the fear on her friend’s face that was directed at her. Instead, she wrapped her arms around herself, gripping her elbows. It must have been a ridiculous sight, a huge Dhani cowering by the doorway, a too-small, bright pink dress not quite covering its torso.
“What could have done thisss?”

Although she'd already begun to put two and two together to realise that the creature blocking her escape route was once the blonde svefra Sophia, it wasn't until the Dhani opened its fanged mouth to confirm it that Kamilla's subconscious seemed to accept it as truth. Taking a deep breath and releasing it, her body visibly relaxed somewhat, though her lavender gaze never left the serpentine figure on the opposite side of the cave. "I'm sorry Sophia, you just startled me a boy." Quite the understatement, but Kamilla was unsure of what else to say.

"You're a Konti."

Konti. "Is that what this is?" Of course Kamilla had heard rumours of peel seers from a distant isle when she'd been younger, but she'd never imagined that they were real. Right now they couldn't have been any more real considering she was one.

The new Sophia went on to ask Kamilla about what had caused the, apparently, widespread metamorphosis. A question Kamilla did not have the answer to.

"I wish I could tell you, Sophia… but I'm just as confused as you."

Despite accepting that the giant golden snake was her friend, Kamilla noticed that she still had her pale butt pressed against the shimmering barrier that dissected her cave into its inner and outer parts. It couldn't be helped, regardless of who the Dhani was, the mage just couldn't convince herself to feel completely at ease. She did, however, manage to stand up and adopt a slightly more relaxed posture, still crossing her hands over her chest defensively.

"I really am sorry about my reaction, I just had a bad experience with a Dhani last season." Even after apologising, Kamilla still felt a pang of guilt for her behaviour. Yes, Sophia's appearance may have been terrifying, but she could only imagine what it must have been like for the svefra herself. To be trapped in such an… unusual body.

"I think we both need some air…" she began, tapping the barrier behind her and whispering "Release.", causing it to shrink away until it was a single drape hanging on one end of the large opening.

With the barrier out of the way, Kamilla took advantage of the larger space, moving towards the far end of her cliffside patio before turning to face the Dhani wherever she may have been, so long as it wasn't too close to herself. "It seems like a large wave of magic has spread across most of Syka, if not further. Whatever it was, was clearly very powerful to have covered so much ground." She tried her best to sound matter-of-factly but couldn't stop the hint of desire in her voice. Of course an object or being of such power would peak her interest, it was only natural.

"What do you know about Konti? This is my first time seeing one… though I'm not sure if it counts when it's me." She paused for a moment, not wanting to sound too self centred, "And what about you? What's it like being a Dhani?" Have you been able to change between your snake form and this… hybrid creature." She remembered her encounter with the Dhani in the wild, that one had been notably larger and less yellow than Sophia, and it had started off a giant snake before taking the armed form that the svefra currently inhabited.

Sophia remained where she was, just inside the threshold of Kamilla’s home. She could see the battle that the brunette was having with herself over Sophia’s new form. Clearly there was an old fear that ran deep, and it was fighting with the knowledge that what she could see was actually the Svefra she knew. She nodded once at Kamilla’s words, the movement jerky and fast. Everything she did was so fast now.

She tried to smile again as Kamilla wondered about herself. Sophia knew with absolute certainty that it was a Konti’s form she could see, and the hint of wonder in her friend’s voice was endearing. She dropped her gaze to Kam’s hands and feet, picking out the delicate webbing, marvelling at the opalescent scales that made her pale skin shimmer.

“…I’m just as confused as you.”
It had been a bit of a stab in the dark to hope that Kamilla would know what had happened to them. Deep down Sophia had known that the brunette probably wouldn’t have an answer, and that she had come here for reassurance. To find out if anyone else had been changed like herself. It was something of a comfort to know that the change hadn’t been limited to herself, though on seeing Kamilla, she wished that she hadn’t taken on such a large and intimidating guise.

“I really am sorry about my reaction…”
Sophia met Kamilla’s lavender gaze. Dhani. That was the word she had forgotten earlier. She was a Dhani. “It’ss okay. I forgot what I looked like.” A memory popped into her mind then, and that instinctual smile tried to cross her lips again, fangs getting in the way.
“We can call it even now, after the way I reacted to you during that crazy ssstorm.” She laughed lightly, though it sounded wrong in her ears and the sound quickly trailed off.

Eyes followed the Konti Kamilla as she removed her magical barrier. Sophia took the opportunity to move away from the door she was still blocking, trying her best to keep her movements as slow as she could, though that turned out to be incredibly difficult. She kept to the wall, moving just close enough to the new opening to feel the breeze from outside, but staying back enough so as not to crowd her friend.

Sophia nodded in agreement at her statement.
“You think it’sss magic too? I mean… how could it not be I sssuppose. I’ve never heard of ssuch magic though, have you?” Granted Sophia’s knowledge of magic was incredibly limited, but she figured that this magic was something that would at least pop up in rumour from time to time as it was just so… odd. “Do you think it happened to everyone?”

“Konti? Not much really. There wass one here before you arrived. Sssshe was a healer. Konti are of the water, I’m fairly ssure you can probably breathe underwater now if you wanted to.” Sophia gestured with a hand vaguely at Kamilla’s head. She couldn’t see them thanks to the wave of pale hair, but she knew that Kamilla would have gills upon her neck. “You look much like sshe did, so I would say it countsss.”

What was it like to be a Dhani? Sophia considered the question for a moment.
“It’ss… fassst?” She was aware that probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense. “I mean I can move pretty quickly. It took me half the time to get here than it usually doesss. If I think about it too much though the fact that I don’t actually have legss anymore isss… odd.” She grimaced at her friend. “And I am sscaring myssself with my own voice.”

Sophia frowned as the latter half of Kamilla’s question came to the forefront of her mind.
“My… sssnake form? What do you mean?”

[Kam] Of Snakes and Water Women

Kamilla was grateful that Sophia seemed to understand the effects her new appearance could have on other people and didn't seem too upset by the mage's reaction. Honestly, even without her prior bad experience with a Dhani, Kamilla doubted that she would have reacted any differently. Snakes seemed to make people uncomfortable on instinctual level and here Sophia was, a giant talking snake with a set of arms. It had been too much for her conscious mind to register at once, so naturally her instincts had taken over.

"We can call it even now, after the way I reacted to you during that crazy ssstorm."

Kamilla raised an eyebrow in confusion, directing the look at the massive holden serpent before the realisation of what she was saying caught up with her, an amused smile crossing the Konti's porcelain features. "I suppose that's true…" Sophia had been quite startled and wary of her the day she'd revealed her reimancy ton the svefra, not that she'd had a choice, if not for her magic the two women and their pets would surely have perished in the giant storm of the previous season… along with their pets. Not to mention, Kamilla would not have had the home that the two of them were currently in.

Sophia offered a question before deciding she already knew the answer, an obvious one, what else besides magic could cause such a miraculous occurrence, except perhaps gods? Next she offered a question that the new Konti had already asked herself a few times. "I don't know, if it reached you all the way in the settlement, then I think it's safe to assume that… at the very least… it's affected everyone in Syka. Whether it reached further, I can't say. Although, to even cover the settlement must have required an immense amount of power, do doubt it's reached beyond us." Though considering she still had no idea what exactly had caused the change, she was simply making an educated guess.

Next the new Dhani went on to explain what she knew about Kamilla's new form, apparently having met one in Syka before. "Breathe underwater?" The mage had already figured that her new form was somewhat accustomed to being in the water because of the scales and slightly webbed extremities but she certainly hadn't considered she'd be that well adapted.

With this new bee in her bonnet, Kamilla made her way over to her bed, plucking a small had mirror from it and examining herself, noting the thin slits on either side of her neck. Gills? She'd certainly have to try using them… preferably after the giant serpent, Sophia, had left.

Shifting the attention from her seemingly amphibious self and back to her reptilian friend, Kamilla could only cross her arms over her chest and listen. It was no surprise that Sophia felt faster than before, she recalled the terrifying speed with which the Dhani had attacked herself and Ken the season before. She did feel bad about the lack of legs though, Kamilla couldn't imagine being so far removed from her usual form, she'd really gotten lucky. As for the sibilant speech, "I ssuppose that comess with the territory." Kamilla was not a joker, or funny in general, she wondered if her weak attempt would make things worse.

Sophia's next question made it clear to Kamilla that the once svefra had even less knowledge about the snake race than she did. "Well I'm definitely no expert, I've only encountered one once… Ken seemed to know a bit about them, though he seems to have a strong dislike of them too." She paused, remembering the redhead's anger when facing the monstrosity. "But the one that attacked us was just a snake at first, albeit enormous. It later turned into… well, what you are now."

She felt no need to explain any further, "Unfortunately, I don't have any solutions or ideas…" she paused to clench a fist in annoyance, "It seems my knowledge is lacking in ways I didn't even know possible." It was difficult to admit, but not at all surprising. There had been so she'd wanted to, but never gotten a chance to learn about on Sahova.

"Speech"

Sophia nodded carefully. She agreed with Kamilla that it was likely the rest of Syka had been affected. The settlement wasn’t on the scale of a city, and there weren’t really that many of them. But still.
“Although, to even cover the settlement must have required an immense amount of power…”
She nodded again, though didn’t add comment, her knowledge of magic limiting her to the thoughts she had already voiced. It would stand to reason that it took a lot of magic to change one person’s race, so to change several? The mind boggled.

Sophia watched Kamilla as she examined her features in a small mirror. As the new Konti moved her hair to examine her neck, golden eyes could see the delicate gills that now slashed through her neck.
“I asssume that iss what they are for. I never sssaw Okara in the water, but fisssh have them, don’t they.” It was a logical enough thought, and besides, the webbing on Kamilla’s hands was reason enough to believe the Konti race would be somewhat aquatic.

A wry smile tried to wind its way over Sophia’s mouth at Kamilla’s next comment. She appreciated the light-hearted attempt to make the situation less horrible. Once again, she quickly stopped herself, feeling the long fangs brushing on her lower lip.
“My mouth feelss ssso weird…”

Sophia listened carefully to what Kamilla had to say about her new Dhani form. Apparently she had been attacked by a huge snake, which had turned into the half snake-human Sophia currently was. She raised an eyebrow, or tried to at least. What actually happened was that her entire brow rose, leaving her looking surprised, which was not all that far off how she felt. How on earth does one turn from a snake into a half human? How would a body even do that?

Of course, there were Kelvic in the world, and their transformations were magical, light-filled things.
“How… how did it change? Like a Kelvic?” Even if that were the case, Sophia still couldn’t imagine it. Perhaps she would have to seek out Ines.

As she was mulling this over, the rest of Kamilla’s words sunk in and she looked sharply over at her friend.
“Wait. Are people going to attack me?” The panic was evident in Sophia’s voice, and it took her a moment to compose herself. She knew there was a Dhani who occasionally visited the settlement, though Sophia had never met her. She also knew the people of Syka, and surely as long as Sophia wasn’t going around looking menacing, she should be okay. Of course, everything about her felt menacing right now, and she found herself hoping that she wouldn’t meet anyone else on her way back home.

Sophia noticed the clenching of Kamilla’s fist. She knew that her friend prized herself on her knowledge, one of the reasons Sophia had sought her out first.
“It isss a sstrange occurrence. I am not sssure many people would know what could do thiss.” She thought for a moment before brightening.
“Maybe the foundersss will know? They alwayss ssseem to know everything that iss going on.” Reluctant as Sophia now was to go back out into the settlement with the knowledge that people seemed to instinctively dislike her new form, she would be happy enough to be doing something to find out more about it. At the very least, the founders might be able to tell her more about the Dhani race.
NOTE: During the Fall Sophia is a Dhani, specifically a golden eyelash viper. See here for more detailed info.

As expected, Sophia was immediately interested in the possibility of having the ability to change forms, though Kamilla wasn't sure how becoming even more of a snake would be an improvement, though that aside, she certainly understood the desire to learn about what her new body was capable of. The more she thought about it, the more she realised how odd it was to be thrust into a brand new form that one wasn't accustomed too, though she supposed to the undead nuit, it was simply the norm. Recalling the shambling undead of Sahova, Kamilla pondered whether they could be poured into any kind of body, like an animal or golem, or if it had to be humanoid… not that it mattered, she a long ways away from where that answer could be found.

Shrugging as she returned her attention to her massively unsettling serpentine friend and her question, Kamilla offered an apologetic smile, the expression appearing far more genuine than usual on her softer new features. "I don't know, the snake fled into its cave for about half a chime, we thought it was done with us, but then reemerged with a set of arms and angrier than ever." She shuddered at the thought of the massive monster thrashing and snapping at the trio, lavender eyes going to Yennefer who was still cowering in the farthest corner of the cave from Sophia. "I think Yen learned her lesson about running off into the jungle because of it…"

"Wait. Are people going to attack me?"

Kamilla frowned in response to the idea of anyone attacking the overly nice svefra, before her eyes reminded her of why that was now a more likely scenario. Biting her lip I'm an attempt to not react in a way that would cause her reptilian friend to worry too much. "Just try not to sneak up or surprise anyone and you should be fine. Syka is far more welcoming than any other place I've been to on Miz. On Sa- … Just try and announce your presence and your intentions so no one gets the wrong idea." She turned away and let out a sigh, having almost mentioned Sahova, a secret she kept for no reason as she highly doubted that many of Syka's residents even knew what the Undead Isle was.

Returning her lavender gaze to Sophia, Kamilla's hands went to cross over her chest as she examined the golden serpent that was her kind hearted friend. "You're right. They might… I often get the feeling they know I'm a mage. It's quite frustrating." She recalled Matthias suggesting she ask Duncan for tips on building her home… even though she'd never mentioned using reimancy to build it, though she supposed she didn't exactly look like an actual builder.

"I think we should just try and keep call for now, until we can find a lead on what's going on." It was thr best she could think to say.

Taking a deep breath to bolster her nerves, Kamilla took a few cautious steps closer to her terrifying friend, eyes examining every party of her golden exterior and settling on the long pointy fangs, a subtle wince playing across her features. "Do you have… venom? If so would you mind if I collected some?" Of course Kamilla had no idea what she'd do with Sophia's venom, nor did it occur to her how weird of a request she was making, but as was often the case with the mage, curiosity took the lead.
