Irriari swore as golems approached her. After the incident, curses had become common greetings to almost all the golems on the island. The golems that moved towards her now were not phased by her less than flowery language, and continued forward, reaching for her with armored claws and various other implements. It only took a second to launch skyward and claw the first of the four monstrosities in it’s torso, if one could even call the armored plate it donned such a thing. In the air, with a warped birds eye view, Irriari reminded herself that these animated demons were not at all human, and attributing human features to them could cost her life. She moved downward, her wings buffering her descent, and continued clawing and ripping at every piece of metal she found. While her claws could hardly rend metal like they could with human flesh, she refused to be at their mercy. If any of the Nuit complained about the damage their toys sustained it would be simple enough to claim self defense.

By the time Alakina arrived, Irriari had already suffered a few cuts and scrapes on her shins and arms in her attempts to ward off the relentless golems. Thankfully Alakina called them off, or her presence calmed them, whichever it was, irriari was thankful, and her blood sight slowly retreated.
“Do you want to tell me what these petching things had planned, Alakina? Haven’t you Nuit had your fun already?”

Alakina dismissed her question, and continued on her own agenda, which hardly surprised the zith at all. It was the way of these nuit that felt superior to others, and it annoyed her. The women continued talking and explaining what she was to do before thrusting a bow into Irriari’s hands. Irriari almost protested, she had her own both after all, but she examined the bow as Alakina spoke. No wonder the Nuit would skin her for losing it- it was very old, and of excellent craftsmanship. Now, she had two bows! Irriari nodded throughout the exchange, still inspecting the bow, while making all the expected noises and acknowledgements. Alakina shoved a quiver of arrows towards her, and based on the fletching at the top, they seemed equally well made. Finally, the women was done speaking, and Irriari pivoted on her heel, already thinking about other things that didn’t include the nuit.

Plans swirled into her head as she ran her hands down the bow and touched the taut string that would rain death down on the golems that dares to disturb her poison crafting. She walked forward into a bigger room and a movement from the side of her vision caught her eye. Another nuit was caged, and beckoning her over to join him. She noted the nuit’s desires, but first strapped the quiver she had been given next to her own and grabbed one of her older plain arrows from her zith made quiver and pulled the arrow against the newer of the two bows. It was a simple shot- and the arrow exploded into two shards as it hit the stone wall directly in front of her. The new bow had power, even though the string was harder to draw. Now, satisfied with the bows power, Irriari walked up to the caged nuit and spoke.

"So, they finally caged you nuits up? Good call."

She paused for a second and then continued

"I'm sorry- that was a joke, but I was serious. I'm not entirely fond of the nuit. Anyways, I'm assuming you might be fighting the nuit too? What is it that you do?"
Her wings flared out around her as she continued planning and wondering why the golems had attacked Sahova.

[Epic Quest] Karakuri (Sahova All-Stars)

Postby Rayage on July 13th, 2011, 6:29 am

The entirety of his walk consisted of strange thoughts focused on what could have happened. The little tremor intrigued the nuit to no end; maybe it was just being new to the place or maybe because he never felt anything quite like it or maybe it was because he was just a couple sliver mizas short of being golden. Whatever the case was it even overrode his obsession with alchemy. He needed to find answers and he needed to get some clarity. With all those thoughts and possibilities running though his mind it made his look seem distracted and he look like a wandering fool. There was no excuse for that kind of behavior, especially for an Alchemist.

Though as obsessive as he was and as captivating his thoughts were of what could have happened the train slowed to a grinding halt as his eyes spotted two monsters, two huge and incredibly powerful looking creatures lumbering for him. With a brief smile, still not registering the possible danger he was in, he thought he had it all figured out. The tremor was caused by a massive break out of various beasts within the citadel! That had to be it, but then he noticed one key detail that set his mind to rest, they were chained and leashed to no one but his own master. With that realization it took his view of the creatures to the next level. They… they were beautiful, perfection!

A casual smile in response to the hello of Karte he walked forward to meet him, and then was ordered between the great beasts. Being so close his eye could examine them in detail and he really seemed more interested in the modified bears than his own master. This experience made him all too happy and a grin would be plastered about his face as the animals curiously examined him, ”So, golems were the cause of the tremor…” he said mainly to himself before turning back to the animals surrounding him, ”They are beautiful.” he told Karte with a somewhat silly smile on his face. He almost laughed like some silly schoolgirl but he kept that in. This was the life, but he wondered what his master meant when he said that he would be out there with the others. There was going to be a battle of some sort?

”Lilly and Martha” he repeated their names with the obvious pleasure of meeting them. His eyes glued to the magnificence that was the beasts until Karte produced a bag and explained what was in. Once Ray got the bag he looked in to see the scrolls with ICE marking on them. That only made him smile, though never having used one before he guessed he could figure it out when the time came. They didn’t seem all that hard to use. He guessed only time would tell.

Giving his master a fond smile he looked towards Lilly and Martha once more before taking the chains in his hand and beginning anew his walk of the citadel. So, the golems were outside… That meant he had to find the Vestibule. Grinning almost stupidly as he walked between the bears he couldn’t believe that he was actually handling some of his masters creations. That is, he was assuming that Karte made them.

Finding his way to the Vestibule wasn’t all that hard once you have been here for a while. The place still was a maze, don’t mistake that. Never forget how large Sahova is because the moment you do is the moment fate decides just how lost he wants you in the mazelike place of twisting passages and turning halls. Though finding his way with the two bear he made his way there. It seemed to have quite the commotion going on with golems going every which way, and some of them didn’t look too friendly. Amazing what Animation could create but it had nothing on Alchemy.

Stopping to collect himself amongst the entire hubbub he noticed that someone was waving him over. Who was he and why should Ray bother to even go over there? He wondered, but thought that it might be the other people that were defending the Citadel with. Noticing the Zith come first he slowly made his way towards the pair thinking to himself what a bother this all was when he could be working on his next project. Seeing the two having some conversation he decided to join in hearing the last question that the Zith spoke he would answer, ”I am an Alchemist.” knowing the question wasn’t directed toward him he smirked anyways. He didn’t care what the living thought of him, ”May I ask what hole a zith would come crawling out of?” He laughed a little, ”I’m joking.” he reassured her, but whether or not that was the truth was left open for debate.
“Method is more important than strength, when you wish to control your enemies. By dropping golden beads near a snake, a crow once managed to have a passer-by kill the snake for the beads.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

[Epic Quest] Karakuri (Sahova All-Stars)

Postby Irriari on July 26th, 2011, 2:21 am

Irriari glared at the second nuit who had wandered his way into the vestibule. He led two beasts, or perhaps, the beasts led him, into the large room. In response, Irriari kept her wings spread wide and glared at the large animated creatures while trying to stifle a look of disgust. While she appreciated the creations that the Sahovan nuit had made, some of them tended to violate the laws of nature more than the zith was comfortable with. She could easily fight a bear or a wolf, as they tended to react in ways that could be predicted, but these odd creatures had no discernible pattern of behavior, and it made her nervous.

The rude nuit jumped into her conversation without any regard for the other man. She listened to him talk, and waited a moment before responding

“Well how wonderful. An alchemist. I'm sure your sufficient combat skills will save us all, or is that why they assigned you those beasts, because you cannot fight on your own?”

Irriari didn't doubt the truth in her words and stopped herself before the scathing statements continued. She would have to work with this undead thing eventually, so she could at least introduce herself.

“My name is Irriari. I am a poisoner, and a fighter.”

Her words carried a hint of an edge, and she hoped that the alchemist would understand that magic did not scare her nearly as much as a fellow poisoner or warrior.

[Epic Quest] Karakuri (Sahova All-Stars)

Postby Neuge on July 28th, 2011, 6:05 pm

Neuge's interest flared as he continued staring at the Zith. Such a unique creature. The wings were a remarkable attribute. Maybe he'd seek out her corpse for inhabiting some day. "We're not the ones who belong in cages my dear." He spoke kindly yet firmly. "There's something wrong going on and I think it's.. important if we've been gathered like this. In all my time on Sahova, limited as it was, I'd yet to experience something so dire that people were forced here like I was. Let us be calm. I'm sure your combative skills will be of great assistance."

The dead man stared at the Zith a moment longer before turning to the other Nuit. "So you're an Alchemist." He paused before continuing, hesitant of offending the man. "Are you talented or not at your profession?" Neuge gestured towards the bear with the hand he wasn't using to hold his bags. "I'm half wondering if you actually made those. They seem too beautiful to be real." Stepping back to get a good view of the two other denizens, the pale man smiled. "My name's Neuge by the way. Let's stay alive." He chuckled slightly at the irony of his words and gripped his gift bags tightly. "Or as close to living as we can get."

[Epic Quest] Karakuri (Sahova All-Stars)

Postby Panna Cotta on July 30th, 2011, 4:35 pm

One of the biggest problems in Sahova was that you never know who's who until an opportunity to meet one another presents itself. Apprentices were driven like slaves, magicians confined themselves in a laboratory. It could be compared to an ascetic life, if monasteries housed undead who worship nothing but themselves and the magic that they create. Being away from solitary confinement was usually a bad thing, most specially to the Nuit wizards who preferred to be left alone with their doomsday projects.

The Zith was welcomed the Sahovan way - you're worth nothing unless you're a magician, and even less so if you're not undead. The Nuits had friction between themselves, often suspicious of one another, always asserting dominance and self-righteousness against one another. But those gathered that day on the Vestibule were all worms from the bottom rung of the ladder - they could bicker and fight between themselves, but they held no true power over one another. It was evident in the way that they all seemed to be unaware of what was really going on, all of them were pawns summoned to battle.

As they continued to regard one another with curiosity and diffidence, two figures appeared from within the Citadel. One was an obviously rotting man, slowly gliding his way through the floor. He seemed to be whispering to himself, eyes darting from the wall to the apprentices inside the room to the door outside the Citadel. The man gave everyone the creeps, but nobody knew who he was. He was probably someone important, as he went past the lot of them without so much as an acknowledgement. He has serious business outside. His mad laughter echoed in the Vestibule.

The other man was more fresh, was wearing someone quite bulky and meaty. One glance was enough to realize he was Nuit as well, probably recently body jumped. His round face was helmeted by straight hair parted on the side. The features were forgettable, but his voice was an entirely different thing. He had a deep sonorous voice. One word from out of his lips and all the apprentices in the Vestibule acknowledged him as their superior. "Come." He said, "We have a lot of golems to put to sleep."

He later introduced himself as, "Farke." He was polite enough to ask everyone's names, checked the items they were provided with. He assumed that they knew how to carry themselves, wasted no time in briefing. "The Citadel is under attack by an unknown number of golems. Our goal is to take them down." No why's, who's, how's. Sahova had lived far too long to even start wondering why there were beings outside the walls preparing for an attack. Hostility, openly suggested or imagined, were always met with an equally devastating counter attack.

At the very least, Master Farke gave his own opinion on the matter, as he "Thinks the golems are hacked. I have a suspicion who." His words made the apprentices feel like whoever was suspected to be behind this mad orchestration will be probably "put to sleep" as well. To Irriari, a hacked golem didn't really mean anything. Neuge and Ray may be familiar - some golems are often tampered with, though many animators claim that is was probably a mishandling of the soul vector during creation. No matter how it is explained, the bottomline was that golems were the enemy.

Master Farke led them out of the Citadel's twin doors, through the first portcullis. They walked past the courtyard without stopping for a breath. The most logical way to defend the Citadel would have been to man the fort, but for some reason they found themselves outside the Citadel lined up together with a number of golems.

"Hard thing about this part is that you aren't sure which golem's the enemy and which is not." He had a wise look in his eyes, he was already thinking two steps ahead. Although he didn't bother to share his thoughts. Farke glanced to his sides, expecting the apprentices to line up with him. Even more marvelous was the fact that the Sentry lined up outside with them - the golems similar to the Docks Overseer Golems, just as big but thrice as deadly. These were built as war machines, created for the purpose of defending Sahova. Where were they before these all happened? Their existence was almost a myth!

The earth whispered the incoming attack: treads were rolling, golems were assembling. Farke squinted at his men, "Pull your own weight. And if you happen to be a useless piece of sack, at least try to bring one golem down with you."

The first of their enemies arrived: half a mile away six tank-like golems appeared in the horizon. One of them launched a missile. "I don't know what the petch is that," Farke pointed at the projectile coming their way, "but it looks like something that we should take down. Scrolls ready? Best way to attack them is from about a hundred spans away. Anybody here too stupid to figure out how the scrolls work?" If anybody asked, he told them the scrolls were triggered by blood sacrifice - but of course - a drop is usually potent enough to activate the power within the scroll. He did not explain the kind of power stored within the scrolls, and instead continued, "You, Zith, can you make yourself useful and scout ahead?" He meant: take that missile down bitch.

[Epic Quest] Karakuri (Sahova All-Stars)

Postby Irriari on August 3rd, 2011, 7:37 pm

As Irriari continued to banter back and forth with the two Nuit in the vestibule, her ears detected the steady movement of feet, hitting the ground, headed towards them. From the Citadel, two men approached and it only took the zith a second to realize that they were nuit. It was stupid of her to want to see a human, or, as the Nuit called them, a pulser. Though she never thought that she would prefer humans to nuit, Irriari found herself wishing for the leaving breathing race too many times to count. The first of the nuit that moved slowly across the floor scared Irriari. His eyes darted from place to place and she doubted he was sane, though few of the nuit were, in her opinion. He laughed to himself as he passed and Irriari shook slightly as he did. Thankfully he did not wish to stay among the apprentices, though the other nuit, who introduced himself as Farke, did.

Their task was outlined as Farke spoke and the apprentices followed. "The Citadel is under attack by an unknown number of golems. Our goal is to take them down." Farke informed them, and it was all Irriari needed to hear from the undead creature. Now, someone here was speaking her language. Though she didn't say so openly, she agreed with his next statement. There was no reason to ask why the attack had been launched or even who started it. Such inquiries were beyond pointless and often did more harm than good. No matter whether it was ten thousand golems or ten, the objective stayed the same. Irriari ignored the rest of the nuits words and focused on her own plans and supplies. Poison wouldn't work against golems, and even if it would have, her poisoning kit was too far into the Citadel to be retrieved. Her best line of attack, she reasoned, would be to shoot from the air until her arrows ran out. While she had never seen an attack by golems, Irriari doubted they had long range weaponry at their disposal. As an added bonus, if the nuit managed to blow themselves up on the ground, she would be protected and away from their squabbling. Her second weapon, as backup, would be her claws. The zith doubted that her claws would harm the golems unless she could find and exploit a weakness. They had been honed for human flesh, after all. Finally, Irriari had one last concern. What would the environment be like? Often people, especially humans, failed to use the natural resources around them in battle. In a room, one could throw a chair at an opponent, and in the wilds, a trap could be made out of sharpened sticks. Irriari had never tried the latter, and doubted she would have time to employ such a technique on the advancing golem horde.

As the group passed through the massive wooden doors, through the first portcullis, Irriari glanced around and tried to envision the area around her as a battle field. Where were the exits? The weapons? The enemies? Farke waited impatiently for the apprentices to gather around him at his sides, and Irriari moved to his right, though she had hoped to stay far away from him. Around her, the ground moved ominously, signaling the advance of the enemy lines. In her own battles, Irriari had never heard such noises or felt the ground tremble slightly beneath her feet. It was worrisome, but as always, the objective remained the same. She would simply have to remember that. A line of six golems approached. Irriari noted their size and wondered how any of the apprentices assembled could even destroy a part of the gigantic mass.

Finally, her first order came from Farke. She had to take the missle that had been launched from one of the golems to the far right. The missile looked like one of her arrows though the size of the magically propelled bolt dwarfed any she had ever seen. Instead of feather fletching, Irriari saw the telltale glow of magic surrounding the end of the projectile as she pushed downward against the ground and flew skyward. Soon, she was far enough up to observe the who battlefield, though her attention and focus was on the approaching missile.

Irriari pulled the bow that she had been given by Alakina off of her left shoulder. Quickly, she drew an arrow from the quiver that she had been provided with and hooked the arrow head to the string before pulling it back and aiming for the missile. The arrow flew through the air, straighter and quicker than any from her own bow. Even with the perfect line and speed, the arrow still missed it's target. After traveling it's full distance in the air, it dropped downward, and erupted in an explosion of flame and noise as it hit the ground below. So that was what Alakina had meant! As she watched, Irriari was already drawing her second arrow from the quiver. Her mistake was obvious. This was not a stationary enemy, and she was treating it like it was a rabbit in the Sea of Grass. With her second arrow, Irriari aimed a bit ahead of the path of the missile, but still, she missed again. Swearing angrily in zithanese, Irriari watched the bolt as it missed the missile by a couple of feet, only this time, it was too far down, and the missile continued, unabated. The zith breathed in deeply as she drew her third exploding arrow and aimed above and ahead of the missiles path. BOOM. The arrow collided with the back of the missile and exploded loudly. The missile shifted and shook, but still continued moving, this time, towards the ground.

Irriari laughed happily, as one victim literally bit the dust. It was hardly as satisfying as fighting a living being, but it would work for now until she got off of the island. Now, she simply had to destroy the golem that had launched the arrow. Surely, if she didn't, it would fire many more. Irriari's wings propelled her forward, further away from Farke and the other nuit. She was high in the air, but the zith hated being closer to the golems. Drawing one explosive arrow, Irriari used the principles she had learned from the missile, though the golems weren't moving as quickly as the projectile had been. Her hand clenched the limb of the bow tightly as she strung her fourth arrow to the string. Irriari aimed down the bow towards the ground and the advancing line of hostile golems. She aimed ahead of and to the right of the line she was facing, hoping that her hit would at least slow them down. The arrow streaked downward, and Irriari smiled as flames and smoke billowed upward from the point of impact.

Farke did not expect the Zith to enjoy the task, or at least fall into aggression so quickly. There were maybe a few more things he did not know about Ziths, or Irriari, but he gave a nod of approval. He turned to the other Nuits around him.

"Well? Wasn't that nice? Let's send the pulsers first and let them do our job for us." There were a few laughs from the others. Farke was the kind of man who did not really let on what he thought, perhaps his expertise as the "Chief Executioner" as others called him behind his back allowed him to have this kind of attitude. He was being unhimself, that's for sure, and that meant he was more worried than he should be.

The tanks were mostly made of wood, but they were reinforced with metal. It was hard to distinguish them from one another, but memory served Farke faithfully, and he knew they were Alahean siege weapons. He never thought he'd see the day their own golems would turn against them. A tick at the back of his head discomforted him. A Mangonel, a Battering Ram, a Ballista - there were still two of each, not counting the ones that Irriari have subsequently damaged or taken down. Or the ones still coming in from the horizon. These were living siege weapons, he had to remind himself.

Farke had one of his eyes on Neuge, "You aren't a real Sahovan, are you?" It was a statement. "Do you know how to use those?" He pointed a finger at the bags Neuge held. "Those aren't labeled 'For emergency use only'." He probably meant for Neuge to start marching forward and take point as well. His voice was neutral, but it hinted at Neuge's inability to perform magic using scrolls. This was probably Neuge's first time. Maybe it would even be his last time. Or the first of many. Farke shrugged to himself.

Ray, meanwhile was having a hard time handling both Lily and Martha. They were somewhat pulling him towards the golems, and he was certainly too frail to even pull them back. He inched forward, the two alchemical beasts growling in excitement. The golems in front were getting terribly near. Soon, he'd be trapped in crossfire (should there be any). He needed to devise his own tactics, especially since Karte gave nothing about Lily and Martha except that they are held in chains.

Congrats to Irriari for being August's Featured Character! :D

[Epic Quest] Karakuri (Sahova All-Stars)

Postby Rayage on August 15th, 2011, 5:36 am

Rayage looked at the Zith with some disdain in his eyes as she questioned his fighting abilities. Though instead of being enraged he smiled and laughed a little. He knew that he was no fighter, and he was glad that she knew it as well. ”Oh all Zith are the same.” he started in a little too overconfident tone, ”Fighting abilities mean nothing. It’s not brute strength that wins the fight, but the person with the most knowledge, knowledge is everything, and with that alone you can win wars.” and while the statement wasn’t entirely true it was something. ”These beasts are my swords, I see no difference whether it’s my own strength or Lillys and Marthas that helps in this fight as long as we win. Not everyone can be as dim as you, but we all have our place Irriari.” He stated, superiority oozing from him, or at least the false perception of it.

Turning to the other nuit Ray smiled at him, but that quickly turned to a frown as he questioned his skills as an Alchemist, ”Im very,” there seemed to be a deep meaning to the word ‘very’, ”good at what I do, and that is all you really need to know.” he told the other nuit glad that he does appreciate his masters work. He was quite short with him because one, he didn’t need people snooping about what he was doing, and two, he just plain didn’t trust the guy yet. Though he nodded at Neuges words, ”Yes, lets stay alive. I have too much work that needs to be done to die here.” He said glad that all of them had the same goals in mind. No one needed to die, and if they die from such a battle they didn’t deserve to survive anyways. He will prove his worth to Sahova, not only by fulfilling his promises to the place, but also protecting it from whatever threated this place. He was sure with Lilly and Martha they would have no problem in defending the grounds.

Opening his mouth to speak he stopped when two figures crossed across the Citadel. Catching his eye he stopped, he had a whole speech prepared in his mind about the power that Alchemy offered and how that he could take the army himself, but that could all wait to a later time. It seemed that the one that stayed behind was going to lead them. This was going to be more amusing than he had pictured or could even imagine. Though the tone of Farkes voice was rather serious and seemed to have a certain power of demanding attention he could not take him too seriously. I mean, who was he to tell Ray what to do, but out of obligation to Sahova he would listen to him only to get ahead. Yes, getting ahead was his main goal, and his recent creation of Homunculus 1-A was his first little step to being on top.

These golems that are attacking will pay for what they are doing; Ray and all his power would make it so. He looked at the two homunculi beside him. He was surprised that such a large number of golems could have been ‘hacked’ right under Sahovas nose, and even more so being their numbers being unknown. That was a slight worry, but he was confident in the creature’s skills that Master Karte gave him that the worry was rather light hearted and very… underestimated.

Walking out and past the safety of the walls and then they stopped. Lining up with the rest of them Ray had his homunculi on either side of him, as they seemed accustomed to this as well, or maybe at least trained to stay with the master. Spotting all the golems both lined up with them, and the ones on the other side he was shocked as the numbers were truly staggering. Though, he smiled, this was a perfect time to show what a good Alchemist can do to turn the tides of a fight.

Looking unthreatened by the missile that was hurling towards them he kept his mind on the battlefield ahead, the golems were advancing and at a rate that was kind of too fast for the Alchemists liking. Spotting the Zith take to the air his mind, and eyes, went with her observing the first shot that she fired. It missed, but in a way it did hit. Smiling he looked at the explosion that it provided, how beautiful. He nodded in approval, yes, all the products of magic were beautiful, but, he had say, those of Alchemy topped them all.

Being drawn from his thoughts he realized that he was somewhat walking forward. Laughing a little it seemed the fever of battle has gotten into the two creatures that were in his care. Karte did say take them for a walk, did he not? Though his smug grin faded as he was getting a little too close to the approaching golems to be comfortable, ”Uh, Lilly, Martha, Stop!” he demanded giving a light tug to the chains that bound the bear-like creatures. Still being dragged forward his heart sank as the battle ready animals just wanted to rip into the machines that threatened Sahova. This, of course, was a good thing, but he did not want to be stuck in the crossfire. No, ”I said, halt!” he commanded again most likely looking like a fool to the rest who were assembled on the battlefield. What kind of alchemist can’t control their own creations? What a laugh, but then again they were not his creations. He didn’t train them, and this is the first time working with them ever.

He had to think fast or risk being taken down by the golems. Not going to go out without a fight he quickly grabbed a scroll from the bag and opened it, biting his finger until it bled he hurriedly placed it on the parchment and activated the glyph. Aiming it at the nearest advancing golem it fired off its icy powers buying him more time to think before Lilly and Martha drag him into the heart of the battle.

Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge, he thought. He was too weak to drag the beasts back and he always said it was knowledge that won battles not brute strength. Seeing another golem get too close, and the homunculi getting even more excited at the approaching wave he aimed the scroll and shot another round off. He wasn’t the best of aimer, or well not with a bow, but these scrolls were easy to use, or so he found them to be. Knowledge, was the key, and then… then it hit him. Knowledge was the key. What was one thing that all animals lacked? Intelligence and that is what Ray had. What he had they did not and what they had he did not. It was a great balance.

A confident smile returning to his face he could control them like he tried to control everyone else, with hypnotism. It was brilliant. They would not only be held in chains physically, but mentally as well. ”Stop.” he said in a voice that was laced with Djed, its influence filling his voice with power and giving it a much more demanding tone. Though it went deeper than that, it went deeper than the primal urge to kill these golems, the command was a hypnotic suggestion, and therefore bypassed the conscious mind and buried itself deep into the subconscious of the animals.

The growling and snarling continued, but the command was heard, finally, and therefore it was obeyed. The creatures stopped. Giving a quick sigh of relief that it had worked he could feel a tug on the chains again. They wanted to go, they wanted to attack anything that they could see, and he could see it. There was such an animalist urge that he recognized, one that he had seen long ago, and one that he hadn’t forgotten. It was the same look that the wolf gave him, that puppy of a thing, oh so eager to kill him. That look gave him excitement beyond anything else, and only made him wish that the golems would move just a bit faster.

Taking aim again with the scroll he activated it again and shot another ice bolt into the crowd of approaching golems. Now, he realized, he was the farthest one up, and the first the hoard would meet. Laughing some, because in serious situations one cannot help but to disarm them, he continued shooting bolts from the scrolls, another, another, another, and another. Shooting a total of seven shots so far…
“Method is more important than strength, when you wish to control your enemies. By dropping golden beads near a snake, a crow once managed to have a passer-by kill the snake for the beads.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
