[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

So...did the description to the Underground Forest get revised? I recall reading it and it being a place filled with colorful fungus and a delightful place for a first date (which Kovac did :)) Now it is a nasty place with giant bats and bugs and dirty chiet miners!

Yes. The underground forest is now a horrible place. I expect to see you luring young girls there soon?

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Postby Rista on July 24th, 2011, 9:58 pm

depends on your reasons I suppose ;] If it's more fun to bring a girl to a horrible place than a nice and pretty one.. then I think you might have problems. Unless you're planning on scaring her into your waiting arms of course, because then it is completely legitimate. I think. maybe.

Here begins a long Rant :
Is there a cure for rambling, itchy fingers? Everything I write feel inconsistent and choppy, and I don't know what to do about it. Actually describing a scenery has become very difficult, expressing emotions even more so. It's all down to 'she said. She thought. She turned and walked over there, where she...' and so on. It feels like I shouldn't write anything at all, and yet I can't focus on anything but writing. Is it a decease?

On a different note, is there a good way to describe your characters looks and benefits without making them sound like perfect and godly beings with perfect toes? Or actually succeed with something without it sounding like they always do everything correct and by the book...

I feel flawed in my writing. There is this frustration that I want to write, I know what to say but can't convey it in a proper way, and because of that everything becomes less than what it should be. My character is running away without waiting for me to catch up, like a dog that tore the leash out of your hand, and before I've had the time to explain what she's doing in a good way, she's on to doing something else. Or thinking something else. Maybe I should have made myself a calm, thoughtful character that rarely does anything without thinking it through both twice and five times. It's probably not even Rista's fault. I do want to blame my lack of vocabulary in the English language. How many ways are there to bring the attention to the person that is acting, without saying 'she' all the time? She, the girl, the yasi, the.. what? Another thing that annoys me is my consistent use of 'and'. She did that, and then she turned around. Then she did something else, and that was well enough but...

Yah. The question is how to fix it. Stop writing and start reading? Probably, the risk is that I end up copying someone else's way of writing. Write even more? Sure, can do. As seen, I can write forever without stopping. The problem is to let someone else in for a bit to add a comment, and then I need to pick up the trail, regain the feeling and get back into the flow. How do you bring characters closer to each other without starting to powerplay? I think it's got something to do with perspective, or perhaps feeling. Something about focusing less about what they're feeling and thinking, and more about what they do, and how. But not too much, because that would make it self-centered and miss the target. I suppose it's a form of art; to raise the bow, aim, fire, miss completely and then go to collect the arrow without turning it into a monologue about how your miserable childhood and personal flaws makes you glare at all the people who actually hit their targets. Sure it makes things personal, but gods how boring it sounds.

Then again, I suppose it's hard to see anything when it's all chopped up and spread out in threads when you face different persons and write differently each time. The moods are different, the feeling for the character is different, the surroundings and the people you act against are different. How do you gather the overall impression when everything is so fragmented?
*goes to collect a sandwich*
Anyway, I lost the mood a bit, so I'll stop here.

Wow, that made no sense at all...

Anyway, is anyone interested in a thread? I have several, I know, but there's always room for more. As for ideas.. I'm up for anything really. A fight would be interesting, or the aftermath of one. More training is always nice, meeting people is fun and discussing philosophy is something you can never do too much. Teasing, taunting, working the ass of, befriending, teaching... kicking the ass of... I'm open for anything xD

I don't think you have anything to worry about, Rista. Your writing is awesome. I often have some of the same problems, but reading your posts they don't seem so obvious (as in I haven't noticed them at all) :)

Thanks Fois, it's actually really good to hear. I'm still not entirely sure where that rant came from, but it feels better already so I guess it helped ^^

Whoops, wrong account. It's still Rista, though she seems to be having some odd company atm.. I couldn't help myself from making a second char, but with the difficulties I had with him I think this will have to be the limit. Aaanyway, changing is good.

hm, annoying. Seems I couldn't embed it for some reason.. Anyway, I found a good song that made me think of Wind Reach ^^ It's the soundtrack from Owls of Ga'Hoole, which is a movie I have to see when it gets out. I wonder if I can get a hold of the book too.. :D
