"She is going to learn how to ride with a saddle, Drykas." The voice that answered was not Edreina's, and so the woman started slightly, turning Jorven carefully towards the source. Instead, Edreina saw that the horse mistress had returned and was now leaning against the corral's fencing with an annoyed look on her face. One of the few things that she did not take well to was interference in teaching someone to become a proper horsewoman or man. Under the woman's gaze, the Svefra withered ever so slightly. But, deep down, she did not realize why the stable mistress was upset. Had this not saved her a bit of trouble in the long run? Or... perhaps this woman felt it was her place to teach Edreina the ways of the four-legged monsters. This dry world did not, Edreina remembered, work like upon the Suvan where the responsibilites of passing on knowledge was shared among the pod. The truth was, Serena had not planned on having the redhaired woman upon the horse until a day or two from now; the saddle had been brought along to make measurements and check for fit. Pushing her too far too fast would create an inept horsewoman who did not fully respect nor trust their mount. But, leave her with one of the Wandering Horse Clans and, well, she should have seen it coming. It was not too bad, she decided. At least the Drykas held their horses in as high a regard as she. She smiled slightly - Edreina relaxed just a touch - mentally applauding the woman for her bravery, and slapped the hitherto unnoticed black saddle resting upon the fence of the corral beside her. "This is how I will be teaching you, and until you're more comfortable on a horse's back, this is how you will ride." Unsteadily, Edreina dismounted just as Serena turned to the Drykas. "Oh don't give me that look. It's just as safe and better for a long journey. When she gets better, though, she can form her own opinion." Apparently, there was a match of Saddle versus Yvas going on. "By the way, your Yvas has been repaired. You can pick it up and pay a stablehand by the breeding barn." The Svefra glanced at her new friend, picking upon the fact that such was a not-so-subtle queue for him to leave. Normally, she would have resented being told what to do. But, living on the Anchorage had taught her that if someone knew better than you and was telling you to do something, it was best for you to listen. Otherwise, you might end up with a fish-hook in your arse. But, what about Viper? He had been kind to her... But he was not a lover nor was he an acquaintance; she had let him convince her to not only get onto a horse, but let him ride behind her. So, he fell into the broad category of "friend". For a tick, she chewed on her lip before stepping forward to hug him lightly. She wanted to thank him for showing her that not all Drykas were monsters, that not all would attempt to steal her away in the night... Instead, she settled for, "Thanks for the help, Viper." Found in the redhead's voice was a genuine kindness and appreciation often lost in this hard-world. When Edreina made a friend, she truly made a friend... not a business connection, not an asset, but a friend. |
