OOC Info [Alvadas] False Impressions

Welcome to the OOC thread for Winter 513! Pop in and say hello.

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

Considered one of the most mysterious cities in Mizahar, Alvadas is called The City of Illusions. It is the home of Ionu and the notorious Inverted. This city sits on one of the main crossroads through The Region of Kalea.

[Alvadas] False Impressions

Hey! Welcome to our new players!

I wanted to toss out a question to you all kickin around this ooc.

What would you like to see in Alvadas? What kind of adventures would you like to have?

I'm working on a few things behind the scenes and I wanted to get some player input on how to redesign some of the city for the best environment for you Illusion chasers.

[Alvadas] False Impressions

Postby Seju on January 1st, 2014, 6:45 pm

I've already mentioned giving the Isur a more distinct presence in Alvadas, but I'd like to see if anybody else has opinions on that subject. I've also noticed that while there's a good variety of locations in the city, there aren't many outside the walls. But that's something we can all try our hands at drafting.

Unraveling mysteries while having a characters' heads messed with is what I enjoy most in adventures. I think it's been done successfully in Alvadas and I'd like to keep it going. I mean, illusions... they're among the best plot devices.

The one thing I'd push for are seasonal quests. They're ambitious, but lots of fun and very inclusive.

To elaborate on Seju's idea for seasonal quests, I really like the idea of puzzles and riddles. I think Alvadas has a great potential for that, where other cities might focus more on physical or magical prowess. I'm not sure how we would have to compromise players' solving skills and that of characters, but it's an idea.

And I think it's been mentioned somewhere before, but I am also interested in developing/joining the Inverted.

I would support the idea of a greater isur presence, especially since we already have a little Charbosi and Alvadas seems pretty friendly to outsiders. Locations outside the walls seem like they would be beyond the reach of the city's usual illusions though. Maybe that could make them even more dangerous than being within the city? Like wizards and rebels who don't even follow what few rules Ionu has?

Gratz Tap! You know what I mean. ;)

I like Seju's idea of out-of-city locations. Maybe a series of traveler's waystations with bare-bones supplies to aid inexperienced traveling players (and account for their survival...lol).

I also have long had an idea for an "oracle" location where information on the pre-valterian world could be had. It obviously couldn't be easy to get the info and would probably need to be modded.

It was actually sort of the fate I had in store for Ku, way, way back when I created him.

I could PM you the back story if you'd like.

Sure! I'd love to see your take on it. (Of course, Pre-Val stuff I need to run through the higher powers that be)

I have five important influential families coming into Alvadas, an updated linkmap + players guide, and some Womiyu rewrites coming in.

The families should give you all a chance to play politics in the thriving illusion-ridden community...and put in a bit more danger and intrigue.

One of the families speaks for the Isur and is also the voice of Sultros and its trade with Alvadas...so rest assured, the Isur are getting a Magecrafting lab and some living space and such :P

Seasonal quests always seemed dangerously bloated to me. A lot of folk joined and they slowed down to such a pace that they often only ended a season or two later than when they started. I don't mind running seasonal mini-quests...keep the participation small, but leave important clues and information that you call can meet and collaborate in character about...perhaps preparing for the next SQ.

But a giant one is always too chaotic for me...folks drop out, the story takes hits, and when they go into almost a year after they started...I feel like the end results of the story are so far past relevant that it might as well have not happened.

Although I am willing to negotiate/debate that, Seju.

Renate...I love the idea for puzzles...I only hope I can keep up with some of you. I'm not really much of a puzzley person, but I can certainly look into making things a bit less direct and a bit more abstract.

[Alvadas] False Impressions

I second Renate's idea of joining/developing the Inverted. After all, we're looking to attract lots of performers to Alvadas.

And there's nothing wrong with mini-quests; look at what Twister is doing in Sunberth with attempting to do 3 monthly quests this season instead of one big one.

As far as Alvadas-specific locations that I didn't see but think might fit in here: a costume store. A shop to buy and sell masquerade outfits, wigs, masks, and various outfits.

I'd also like to see a store or Bizarre stall that sold puzzles, be it chains that link together, blocks that fit together or even jigsaw puzzles. I know Mizahar has games and cards, so such a store would not be out of place, especially in Mizahar.

I'd also like to suggest a park with an outdoor dais, a place for people to give speeches and exhort the crowds on whatever issues they feel like speaking about. A city that enjoys art and culture and has places like the Crook Playhouse could certainly have a nice park.

Finally, a Museum of Oddities and Curiousities. These could be totally made up and run by a con-artist for all it mattered, but it could have stuff like "A marble from the Lost city of Suva!" or "A feather from a fable eagle of Skyinarta!" and "A clay familiar from the Planet of Stone People!" (This would be a Pycon assistant to the con-man, of course.)

The benefit of this last place is it could be used to spur on various other threads and quests; the owner could hire Kuvarkh to design something for the museum, or he could hire people like Ko and Seju to go quest for something rumored to be out in the Wilds.

Well done, Rowland.

I'll take those shop ideas into consideration as I flesh out the new linkmap.

Also, Shoutout to Elysium for my fancy new attire. I'll be wearing it around for a bit...she also made the first one (Cause I suck at coding) so thankee for dropping in Ely and making me so damn pretty.

Query, would you all be interested in developing locations, NPC's, Holidays, and Monsters if there was a reward of some sort involved? I know that other cities use a perk points system for help and I ranted in my interview about how much fun developing and folks using your ideas can be.

Is developing something you all would be interested in contributing to?laborum

Nice new look, Tap!
We are indeed lucky to have you.
I think that The Bizarre was supposed to fill in the gap for any odd shop you needed to find. Sort of a cure-all selection of kiosks and booths to provide anything you couldn't find in an already-existing forum. But any new and specific shops would be better.

A Museum is a great idea. What a grand excuse for all manner of shenanigans.

Good avatar, Rowland. Much more showy that that drab Harry Dresden rip-off. :p
