All the more while Gale tried to encourage Martin to calm down the child would prove to be like his father, stubborn that is until something else important came to attention to him. Upon the moving to another place Martin calmed just a little bit but he still seemed to fuss, even when he was in the shop with Gale the fusses didn't end but came in a few bouts. All the same though, Martin proved no challenge in handling other than the attempts to calm the child. He was anxious now. Anxious and very likely hungry, and when the artist did the trick of showing the very thing that would be the baby's food, well then finally the baby himself took to find interest in the bread.

Upon being handed just a small piece of the bread Martin looked at it like it was some sort of mysterious plaything. It wasn't his parents sure... but what was it exactly? It was a bit rough but mostly crumbly? How did it taste? Martin checked it out. His hands brought up to his mouth as he stuck a portion of the piece within and sucked on it for a moment, eyes that belonged to his mother now down on the object in his hand as he looked at it curiously. Sure. It tastes alright, though not much to taste really. It dissolved in his mouth too. Little did he know that it was the same thing as the last few pieces he ate before, mostly because they were soaked to the core with milk as that was his main diet. Pretty soon other things would come in, but that would be later on as the baby learned to control his mouth and throat for proper swallowing.

Once Gale had bought the items that were necessary for the child Martin proved to be all the more occupied with just that one piece of bread he had, it was enough to distract him from the current events as Gale would finally head out and onward to the docks. While happened the baby would continue to try and "eat", if one could consider it eating, the bread by sucking on what portion he could get in his mouth. In turn of course he ended up drooling a LOT, enough to literally cover his chin as he looked at the very soggy bread piece in his hands. Curious to see his Godfather try and eat it Martin would try and put it to Gale's own mouth, a cute smile on the baby's face as he attempted to do so.

So Close Yet So Far

Kendhl's search for Gale had exhausted her. How did a ghost become exhausted, when they have no need to breathe or use muscles? She thought over this question whilst heading back to the Mirahil Pass. She wouldn't wander far, this time. Maybe she'd look for him tomorrow. Maybe. She could visit Ricky's house, too.

Another thought struck her. Why was Gale taking care of Ricky's baby and not Ricky or Telion? Was Ricky gone? If he was, then... Where had he gone? Something must've happened. He wouldn't leave his child... If it was actually his.

Kendhl would look for Gale tomorrow. That was her final decision. If Ricky wasn't there, she'd ask him where he was. It seemed like a good idea. If she didn't find Gale tomorrow, she'd look for him the next day. But all this searching had somehow exhausted her soulmist.

The former Kelvic floated out of the Pass and into the Wildlands, keeping near enough to know which way Zeltiva was.

"Have a good day, Gale."

OOCI'm so very, very, VERY sorry for the late reply x x It's been nearly a full week. Feel free to berate me if you wish. I'm sorry!

So Close Yet So Far

Postby Gale Austin McCenry on April 26th, 2014, 7:06 pm

OOCOh don't worry about it Kenny! Things like that happen! We understand!

Also! I'm basing the childcare thing off of what would really happen in that sort of a time period, seeing as it was the woman's job to take care of the babies way back when while the men usually worked.

PS! I think I'm going to wrap it up here, so I'm going to kinda play Martin a little bit so I can finish up. Feel free to do your last post with Martin though Ricks if you want.

The streets were just as busy as Gale had left it when he entered the General Store. Though this time, Martin was quiet, which was a huge relief, seeing as he had enough people starring. It wasn't often that a man carried a child around the city, for typically the woman do most of the childcare. But there was no woman or mom or even father to take care of Martin. Just Gale. And thus, Gale went on to the docks, not bothering to return a glance at the one's who watched the emaciated artist walk by with a basket and a baby. However, Gale found it difficult to carry both at the same time. Especially the basket. Try carrying a basket with a gallon of milk and bread with only two fingers. Yeah, it's difficult.

The sailor came to a stop by the side of the path, setting down the basket for a few ticks. "Hold up Martin." He said to his Godson as if Martin would care if he shifted the basket into a better position. Gale then ran his arm through the large loop that served as a handle, having it hang from the hitch in his elbow. It made the basket lopsided a little from the basket being so wide and leaning against his side, but that was alright. Nothing would spill out, he was sure.

Gale continued on his way, making it to the docks in a matter of chimes without further complications, seeing as Martin's attention was occupied and he could actually carry the basket now. He made his way to the sandy shore and set the basket down a half a dozen paces away from the water's edge. He then took a seat himself with a low grunt. The man took in a deep breath, smelling the familiar aroma of salt and sea. The smell that he had grown to love, and he hoped Martin would to. It was a wonderful smell.

Gale crossed his legs and looked down at the child and his bread. Gale's eyes widened and he laughed at all the drool the boy produced. " How can you drool that much in just a few chimes!" He exclaimed with a chuckle. "Silly boy." He shook his head softly and took a tuff of the blanket in his hand. As carefully as he could, he wiped the spit away from Martin's chin and even some on his neck, seeing as the drool trailed down from his chin some. "There you go Martin." Gale stated once finished.

His eyes watched the baby play and suck on his bread. Right, he was probably hungry. "Let me get you a new piece." Gale said, attempting to get the soggy bread piece away from the curious baby. Once he did, the widower grabbed the gallon of milk and untied the string in which held the fabric covering the lid. He stripped the fabric away, and with some slight trouble, opened the lid. He reached around the jug to the bread. He pulled it over and placed it on his lap. The sailor then broke off a piece and held it in the milk. That's what Telion said, right? Bread in milk? He was sure it was bread and milk.

He removed the now soggy bread from the milk and looked back at Martin. Wait- was he suppose to let him suck it or eat it? Gale pondered this for a few ticks. He eventually came to the conclusion that Martin was unable to swallow the bread as a hole, and therefore, sucking on it was what she told him to do.

"There you go Martin." He smiled, holding the milky bread to him, hoping he would take as much interest in this soggy piece of bread as he did with the previous one.

If Martin did, Gale would hold the piece for Martin until it either was out of milk or Martin tried to grab it from his hands, in which Gale would let go so Martin can hold it. But once he let go or tossed the useless, soggy bread away, he pulled off a much bigger piece for himself, seeing as he forgot to purchase something for himself at the Fish Market and the General Store. But that's alright. He could share with Martin, seeing as he had another loaf of bread at home.

Gale took an eager bite out of the chunk and chewed it for a few ticks before biting off another third of the piece he held in his hand. He swallowed, finished off the piece, and then tore off a chunk and dipped it in milk for Martin. He took away the piece Martin had and gave him the new one. He then tore off another handful for himself. He repeated this process until a little less than half the loaf was gone and Martin appeared to be full. He put the bread away and returned the lid to the Milk jar to clean up.

Now that both of them had eaten, Gale hoped that Martin was at least distracted enough that he wouldn't throw another fit. But just to make sure, Gale Pulled Martin out of his arms (which actually felt good, considering his arm was tired from holding him so long) and placed him in his lap. "Are you happy now, baby Martin?" He smiled softly, taking a gentle hold of Martin's hands with his. He played with them lightly, swinging them softly back and forth to a random little hum. Those hums eventually turned into little do dums and ho hums, which made Gale giggle, and probably Martin as well.

Though, the play didn't escalate much from this little 'dance', and eventually, even this stopped. Gale smiled with a low chuckle and picked up the baby,"Come here you." He held Martin in the air as he plopped onto his back, pulling his legs up. He laughed to himself and placed Martin on his stomach and then his his hands again. He moved them around gently, but there was no humming or or do doing like before, for Gale simply smiled at his Godson fondly.

His mind started to drift into thought. Simple questions and difficult ones at the same time. Things like, what was Martin feeling, with his parents gone? Was he sad only when he thought about them? Or did he always feel sad? Gale hoped that he wasn't sad all the time. Though, he was sure Ricky and Telion were. Having to leave everything behind. Their home, their family, even their own son. Gale could never imagine having to leave everything behind. Just up and leave by a simple whim of fate. No, he couldn't do that. He couldn't handle such a thing, seeing as he hardly had anything to hold onto anymore. All he had was them. Ricky, Telion, and Martin. And now he might not even have that... When they return, it might not even be that...

Gale's eyes started to water, though, he plastered on a smile as he looked at Martin. "Do not worry. They will be back." He spoke to himself more so than Martin. "They will be back."

So Close Yet So Far

As the Godfather cleaned the drool of his Godson’s chin and neck the baby smiled a quirky smile to him, still prone to try and offer Gale what was left of the mushy bread that had been soaked in the slobber the baby made while they’d been moving around the whole time. Of course when Gale finally took the piece to toss it aside Martin watched as it flung away into the sand, and then looked up to his caretaker curiously as to why he would do such a thing. Then of course the already soaked piece of bread was offered before the child, which was taken curiously by Martin as he pulled it into his mouth to suck on it. Once the baby realized that this was milk soaked bread, the very thing he’d been living off of since his mother departed, his eyes seemed to widen and light up with wonder as he looked to the Godfather once more. The baby was indeed pleased to be tasting the one thing that helped nurture him and aid in his growth, and as the very grain dissolved within his mouth to allow the nutritious calcium be swallowed he tried to clap his hands together a couple of times.

It was his way of communicating since he’d not any way to speak, as the child had learned with his parents that gestures and notions served as indicators to what he wanted half the time. Again another small chunk that had been soaked was presented before the baby, and this led to the child taking it with a "Mhmhmmhm!" as he looked at the delicious dripping food in his hands. The feeding process continued until at last Martin more or less treated the last few pieces of bread given to him like toys rather than food, a couple thrown into the sand just as Gale did earlier as the boy tried to mime the Godfather. Of course there was also the adorable moments where he would offer what he was given back up to Gale as though he were being generous, and sharing his food with the one that provided him the means to be full. Then came the moment of fun between the two as Gale played with Martin, laughs prominent in the child as he squirmed about eagerly from the attention he was given.

The humming seemed to interest the child well enough but the act of playing alone made Martin seem happy once more, his mind no doubt solely focused on the guardian that held him close with a fond smile on his face. Then of course the playing stopped with in turn led to the boy quieting down and being more or less curious about Gale himself. He watched as the artist seemed to dive deep into thought about something, something he hadn’t any capability to wonder as he was but a small child still growing in the world… although his own thoughts were often the same as the one that held him. Upon the smile and reassurance that Gale said, Martin smiled back to the artist and leaned into him in a manner that was the same as a hug. Somehow deep down Martin knew that his parents would be back, even if it was painful to be without them for the time being. Yet in the boy’s own eyes there lived something that Gale would be familiar with, as it was in both the eyes of the mother and father that left him in Gale’s charge. Hope. Hope that everything wouldn’t be long, and hope that he would see both momma and papa again soon.
