Red Diamond Tavern

The Red Diamond Tavern, being one of the popular places to go to visit with others, sit by a fire, and tell tales as the Vantha love to do, is a large place with plenty of room and homelike features. The tavern's main room is noted primarily for having a large fireplace at the far end, above which is usually hung a set of horns of any creature in the Frozen Wilderness. As a long-standing competition exists between the hunters, there is always a game to see who can bring down the larger beast and present its horns as proof. Each new record remains there for all to see and tell of until a larger catch is introduced. Around the large stone fireplace itself is set a dozen cushioned chairs, large and comfortable for those who enjoy watching a fire burn and conversing with others. The remainder of the room is spotted with various wooden tables with typically four chairs apiece at each.

In the corner of the room is a staircase that leads to a second level of the same room, which has little more than the same wooden tables and chairs. The second level is mostly like a large balcony that rests over the bar and back into the building a ways more. From up there, one can see almost the entire first level, with the exception of the bar directly below. Typically, wanderers unfamiliar with Avanthal, the occasional shady character, or people who just want some privacy will populate the upstairs area. The common attendants tend to migrate more towards the well-lit downstairs and usually towards the fire if they've finished meals.

Behind the bar itself are two doors, one that leads back to a kitchen, and a trapdoor that leads down into the basement/cellar. Nobody but the owners/employees are allowed anywhere behind the bar, let alone through either door.

Ciroc trudged through the front door of the tavern, immediately sitting down in the table closest he could get to the fireplace. A rather disgruntled and mean looking vantha glared at him as he sat in the seat he was about to.
Sorry, mate. Should have been quicker. he said as the vantha continued to glare and walked off. He took off his helm and sat it on the table, which had done little to keep out the cold. He had regained his calm composure, mostly anyway. It was rare when he lost it, but the cold did not do well for his mood.
He took a quick look around the tavern as he sat, taking note of all the exits and places just in case he needed a quick escape. You never knew when stealing would be profitable if you need it, and a tavern was the best place to do it.

Ciroc was able to warm himself relatively quickly as he sat by the fire. As he relaxed by the fire to warm himself, he remembered the last time he ate was last night, he didn't want to stop and hunt for food for an hour when he could have been here in that same amount of time. He called a rather pretty barmaid over, who was delivering drinks to a few people sitting on the opposite side of the bar. Yeah, I want the nights special, and a gallon of ale." He said and handed the barmaid the money for the food and ale. He watched her as she delivered the drinks to the others on the side of the bar. He yawned lazily and continued to warm himself as he waited on his food.

Rue entered the Tavern quickly and quietly, escaping the cold wind and her idiot mutt Pip. She made her way close to fire, warming herself in the orange glow on one of the cushions. Letting out a sigh of relief she stretched her hands to the fire softly humming to herself. The Tavern was busy, with chatter echoing off the walls and laughter fallowing close behind. The people of Avanthal seemed to be in good spirits.

Her mind wondered aimlessly as she sat back in the chair. What would she do for the rest of the season and where would she go next? Wind Reach sounded ideal, though she knew nothing about the place. She could go south for the winter like usual but it seemed too routine. The barmaid interrupted her thoughts by asking if she would like anything. Rue politely refused and resumed her thinking. Peering over her shoulder she looked at the door for a moment before looking back at the fire. Fire, as mesmerizing as it always was with people, always had the drawback of feeling like it was burning your skin after you were around it too long.

Clinton opened the door carefully. He had been drawn in by the noise and had fallowed the rowdiness to the tavern. He tapped his cane in front of himself in tighter motions to insure his safety though he bumped into an empty table. Placing his hands on the wood he traced the rim until his arm hit the back of a chair. Sighing loudly he shakily sat in the seat, making sure he wasn’t about to fall and began listening to the noises of the room.

The smell of cooked meat tingled in his nose, sending a pleasant shiver down his spine and the fire gave a loud pop as more wood was added. Even though he was nowhere near it he could feel the warmth radiating across the room in waves. Feeling as if he could sleep Clint hastily ordered a glass of water, hoping that it would perk him up.

Ciroc was already almost finished eating by the time the newcomers had arrived. He had just finished chugging down another mouthful of ale as he spotted the girl, and the obviously blind man walk in. He watched the man walk about, with sure enough footing and avoiding any collisions, except for bumping into an empty table, which he sat down in.
Ciroc sloppily placed what he hadn't already eaten on a plate, and stood, a little drunk from the ale, and walked a little crookedly over to the table where the blind man sat. He sat his plate down and sat next to him, without asking. "Hope you don't mind me sitting here." He said without waiting for an answer. "So whats a blind man doing in a place like this? he asked. He glanced at the girl that had sat by the fire, wondering what she was doing here all alone.

Stretching out in front of the fire Rue looked behind her once more. Two men caught her sights. One was drinking – quite heavily – while the other looked, well, shabby. Slowly she sat up to get a better look. They were not locals; at least they did not look like they were from Avanthal. The man who was drinking looked a bit tipsy as he spoke with the other, who was looking right at her, though he seemed not to notice her intrusion.

As the fire blazed his eyes turned a milky white. Rue cringed as she realized the man was possibly blind. Suddenly she was very interested in her shoes and after some debating decided she was craving the company of her annoying dog. Looking out the frosted window she didn’t feel that the trip back would be all that inviting but by now the fire was becoming uncomfortably hot and she itched to move away from the stuffiness of the tavern. Lifting herself from the chair she began to walk towards the door.

Svasra Snowsong

"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."
-Marcus Garvey

Timestamp: 1st of Winter, 512, early afternoon

As Svasra pushed the door open to the Red Diamond today, she was eager to see the welcoming atmosphere of the Tavern. She breathed in the familiar scents and listened to the quite rumbles of the afternoon crowd, smiling at any familiar faces she might have run into. The Red Diamond was where Svasra frequented to tell stories, and test out the ones she had made herself. It was where she met new friends, and new races, and a constant stream of new ears to tell her legends to. It was a second home, in a way, and Svasra was now looking to make it her job also.

The Snowsong made her way to the bar, humming lightly under her breath as she waited for the attention of the owner to turn to her. "Hello, I'm Svasra Snowsong," she said with a smile. "I was actually asking about the position of barmaid, if that was still available?" she continued, blinking her gray-blue gaze at the man.

Trikien as clumsy as he is had believed that for once his wings worked. This thought was unfortunately interrupted by his hard tumble to the outside of the cavern. This would bother him if it did not put him in joy. He picked his self up and walked into the building he was now facing.

He was hoping to see a new face, someone to talk to. He sat down waiting in silence on the table so no one sits on him. With almost no emotion on his face to everyone he is a statue, a statue that hopes two people will sit down thinking that is all he is so maybe he could talk to them.

Several hours pass and Trikien leaves disappointed and lonely.

Svasra

The man was handing off a mug of cider to a patron when Svasra approached. After she spoke he blinked a few times until he realized what she wanted.

“Oh! You’re here about the barmaid position. Sorry, I was concentrating on that order and didn’t quite realize what you were saying. I’m not the owner though, just a bartender. The owner rarely comes around here though so I wouldn’t waste your time waiting on him. He’s a bit old and frail so too much walking his hard on him. The person you want to talk to though is Huzak, she’s the manager and takes care of hiring on new staff.” The man patiently explained the situation to Svasra. Then he turned towards a heavy-set, serious looking woman further down the bar.

“Huzak! There’s a girl here looking for some work!” the man called over the soft roar of the patrons gathered around the bar. The woman turned and bustled towards Svasra and the bartender. She was a middle-aged woman with lines around her mouth but a kind glint in her eye.

“What’s going on here? You looking for work girl? What’s your name and what kind of work are you looking for?” Huzak looked Svasra over and then reached for a cloth to wipe off her wet hands as she stood and talked.

Svasra Snowsong

" ... I’m not the owner though, just a bartender." Whoops. Svasra's cheeks lightly colored in mild embarrassment, though the man stayed pleasant and explained there was someone here to see anyways. “Huzak! There’s a girl here looking for some work!” Turning her eyes briefly to the approaching woman, Svasra smiled at the bartender.
"Thank you, I apologize for my earlier mistake," she said with a polite bow of her head.

The manager seemed a down-to-earth woman, already wiping her hands and spewing questions to get to the bottom of the situation, “What’s going on here? You looking for work girl? What’s your name and what kind of work are you looking for?” Svasra smiled warmly, appreciating that the manager took the time now to speak with her instead of asking her to time back later when there were less patrons. If that was ever a situation.
"I'm Svasra Snowsong, ma'am," Svasra began, extending a hand across the bar. "I was inquiring about the barmaid position you had advertised?" she continued, pitching her voice over the rolling noise of the tavern. "I was hoping it was still available and I might be qualified to apply for it."
