Merevaika

38th Fall 515
Home sweet home. The smoky smell drifted through the tents, big and small, the familiar scent of camp fires greeting Merevaika with happy memories. Finally, she was back, and everything seemed just as glorious as she remembered it. Whites and greys scattered the plains, tents dotted in rows or spirals of random patterns, in between them columns of smoke reaching out to support the sky. Zulrav's light wind brushed against her back and the sounds of Pavi and horses met her ears. Oh, how she missed the language of the grasslands. No more struggling with that infuriating common, now she was back with her own language, back in her right place, back in the city of tents, horses and Drykas. Back home.

She looked back for a split second, spotting the dark figures that made up the rest of her traveling group. They had good times and bad, with danger, hardship and arguments amongst themselves, but they came out of it stronger than before, and all in one piece. It had been hard and tiring, but definitely worth it.

Merevaika had ridden ahead from them for several reasons. The first was the fact that her longing to see the city once more was overpowering, and she had galloped with Eryunt over the hills until Endrykas was only a few chimes away. Second was the fact that the Drykas weren't always welcoming to foreigners, so traveling with then might mean the treatment would be extended to her as well. However, just rejoining the city might cause initial distrust and the majority of interested parties would know that they were together anyway. If the web didn't reveal the group travelling together, the hunters they had passed knew, and it was likely that the others would rejoin Merevaika anyway, even if it was just to say goodbye.

Hopefully the Drykas would welcome them with open arms, and let them join them for the Fall events, which were the hunting and foraging that happened every year. That's what she liked about Endrykas: the sense of familiarity, the sense of routine. Riverfall seemed crazy and random, but then again, that was simply the time she spent there. The other native Riverfallians, mainly the Akalak, the strange tall blue men, had found that strange too, so perhaps in that respect it was normally like Endrykas too. Merevaika wouldn't know. Now, she was just glad to be home. Clicking her tongue, she patted Eryunt forward, closing in on her city.

"Relax your body," Dravite smiled, speaking in a low, gentle tone of voice, "close your eyes and try to picture nothing."

The young woman sat in front of him was a new recruit who had joined The Watch at the beginning of fall; she didn't quite have the experience she needed in webbing to make the cut, but what she lacked in the art, she made up for in determination and her expertise with a bow. Dravite had spent the morning watching her shoot target after target without any trouble at all; while his skill with the bow remained dismal, Coral Sunsand had struggled to pick up the ancient skill their ancestors had passed down from generation to generation, but promised to share her secrets of the bow for a little of Dravite's help regarding webbing.
"And then?"
"What do you see?" The horse lord asked.
"Only darkness."
"Good, clear your mind and let your body go heavy and limp, wait and the blue, glowing strands of the web will reach out to you."
Coral was quiet for a time before opening one eye to see if the watchman was looking at her, "this is hopeless!" She complained, "I can't concentrate when you're looking at me!"
Dravite laughed and shuffled around so that he had his back to her, "better?"
"Marginally."
"Good, try again."

A chime passed and then two more before Dravite finally looked back over his shoulder at Coral who looked as if she had fallen asleep. He spun round to nudge her shoulder with the back of his forefinger and smiled; it seemed she had managed to slip into the web after all. Deciding to join the woman, Dravite bowed his head and let his thoughts go, slipping into a state of meditation where his vision went first, followed by sound and finally feeling. He wandered through the web slowly, taking in his surroundings, catching the odd bit of information or the end of a message here and there.
"Coral, can you hear me?"
"Yes," replied a gleeful voice, "I did it!"
"What do you see?"
"I... I wandered out past the Amethyst Clan into the grasslands and now I can't find my way back."
Dravite's laughter echoed through the web, "Hold on, I'll come find you."

Coral wasn't hard to find, not for the man some now considered an expert in his field. He explained to Coral what she should do if she ever became lost again and that she should only make short trips, never venturing too far until she was more familiar with the way it all worked. As Dravite led the woman back towards the city he noticed a disturbance, fed to him through the woven strands of djed like a strum of a string instrument, "who is that?" The man wondered aloud, "quick Coral, we need to hurry, there are a group of strangers not too far from the city and my guess is they've come here from Riverfall."

Outside of his trance Dravite waited for Coral to return to herself before he helped the woman to her feet, "should I follow you?" She asked hesitantly.
"Of course, think of it as an extended training trip," the horse lord smiled.

The two of them ran outside of The Watch tent and got onto their horses, "Lian!" Dravite called, not sure if the man was shooting arrows or going over a lesson with one of the instructors, "quickly, there's a strange group heading towards the city; come and investigate with us!"

With that Dravite gave his Strider the command to go and the pair set off, hoping Lian wasn't too far behind them. Another two watchmen joined them upon Dravite’s command just outside the Wind-Knotted gates and together the galloped towards the distant threat; no one got into Endrykas without going through The Watch, who were ever-vigilant. When the smoke and smell of the city was still in sight but far from their reach, the group stumbled upon the lone woman, circling her with their horses before coming to an abrupt stop. Dravite ordered Cree to back up a step or two as not to make the stranger's horse nervous and then extended a greeting to her; welcome, safety, curious, questions, the man signed, "who are you and what is your business in our city; why do you travel ahead of your group?"

All visitors were met outside the gates, given the once over for any signs of ill health that might spread and unintentionally afflict hundreds if not thousands of the Drykas people; the good of many rested on the hands of a few. Dravite ordered the two Watchmen they had met at the gate to ride on ahead and confront the rest of the group in case they decided to split up and make a run for it.
“Where have you travelled from?” He asked then.

Return To Endrykas

Concentration was always important while honing one's skills. But it was especially important when trying to learn a new aspect of a skill. And that was what Lian was trying to do now. As a hunter, Lian had avoided hunting birds because of the difficulty in bring one down once it had taken flight. There were enough other things to hunt that it didn't matter as much if there were some that were beyond his skills.

As a member of the Watch, that had changed. One of the threats that Lian had to defend his people from were the zith. Terrifying monsters that seemed to eat people and carry them off as slaves with equal chance. Monsters that could fly. Lian had to master the ability to take down a flying target, or he would be at a severe disadvantage against the zith each and every time he faced them. It was no longer an option to simply ignore his inability, and go after other prey.

That was the task that Lian was working on now. The first step was to get used to shooting at targets that were above him. One of his instructors had brought Lian on an area within the training field where targets were attached to posts at a wide variety of heights. Some were down near the ground, where a shot could cripple a fleeing enemy without killing them so they could be questioned if need be. Others were positioned high up on posts, the tallest of which were several man lengths from the ground.

These were the targets that concerned him now. Starting with the first target that was positioned six feet or so from the ground. Head height for a tall man, rather than trying to shoot from chest height as he was accustomed to. Lian studied the target carefully. When he was ready, he tilted his bow up, adjusting the angle to what he thought would hit the target. After a few ticks, he adjusted his aim again. Then he put an arrow to his string, and released it.

The arrow struck the post, a good foot below the target. Frowning, Lian tried again, this time adjusting the angle of his bow higher. His next arrow missed again, but it was closer to the target at least. The next bell was one that was filled with frustration as Lian tried again, and again, and again to hit the target. Each time was met with both failure, and success. Failure because each and every arrow missed the target completely. But there was some success in that his aim steadily improved, and by the end of the bell, his arrows were steadily hitting the post just a few inches below the target. One even grazed the rim as it embedded itself into the post just below the target.

Finally, after Lian was about to give up for a while, one of his arrows struck the bottom ring of the target. Not a good shot, exactly, but the feeling of elation of having hit the target at all was enough to keep him going. Lian wanted to figure out exactly how he had managed to do so. And after yet another bell of practice, he found the angle he needed to hit the target consistently. None of his shots were even close to the center of the target, but he had seen measurable improvement.

Lian sat down in the grass, and set his bow beside him. He wanted to take a drink of water to replace the fluids he had lost while practicing, so he took a deep drink from his canteen. Then he sat back, and just rested for a few chimes. He would begin practicing again once he had rested. Lian wanted to at least be able to hit the second or third ring from the center of this target consistently before he called it a day.

But Dravite's voice calling his name put an end to all of that. Practice was forgotten as Lian leaped to his feet, bow in hand, and whistled sharply for Talise. She sensed the urgency in his call, and wasted no time in galloping up to him. Lian mounted swiftly, jumping up to gain more speed as he swung his leg over her barrel. The moment he was settled in his seat, Talise was off and running. Lian guided her subtly with gestures from his legs, and seat while trying not to disturb anyone as they trained.

It didn't take long for Lian to meet up with Dravite, using the Web to guide him to his friend's location. Dravite had a woman with him, one he recognized as a newer recruit than himself, but he didn't know her personally. Before long, they had circled a lone woman rider. Lian was more than happy to let Dravite take the lead in questioning her. But he was there to lend his support in whatever way might be needed..

Return To Endrykas

Postby Merevaika on September 30th, 2015, 9:12 pm

Merevaika

She was quickly met by a group of the Watch: four men, of which two rode back to meet her companions, and a young woman who looked less experienced than the two men with her. She felt uncomfortable at the meeting, surprised at the number that had come to the newcomer to the city. Foreigners were often treated with doubt, and she herself had preconceptions about them, but sending all these men for a few people? The group traveling was small, perhaps the same size as the group of Watch. What worried her more was that three had stayed with her. Did she appear a threat?

Merevaika stopped her horse, observing theirs. They had Striders too, noble horses, but Merevaika believed that Eryunt was the greatest, no other horse matching him. But of course they would bonded, as Drykas. No one was fully Drykas without their Strider, and Merevaika had the marks that proved her as part of them.

Moving her cloak off her shoulder, she revealed the bare arm, marked with the windmarks that she had received so long ago. It was enough to prove that she deserved to belong in the city, and wore it proudly, sitting up straight.

"Who are you and what is your business in our city; why do you travel ahead of your group? Where have you travelled from?” The man with the sandy coloured hair asked, signing welcome, safety, curious, questions. She was glad that he meant no harm to her, his arrival only standard procedure. Still, he asked a lot of questions, and Merevaika didn't want to sit and answer them all day. She wanted to return home.

She showed this with a few signs, Annoyance, desire to return home. It might have seemed rude, but anyone who had been that far from home that long would have understood her feelings. It wasn't natural to spend such a long time away from your home, and returning seemed to remove some weight off her shoulders, something she hadn't even realised was there until it was gone.

"I am Merevaika," she replied, hesitating a little before adding "Merevaika Stormchaser." She had made a promise to her father that she would always remain Stormchaser, but it brought bad memories. And the pavilion name would remain unknown to all but a select few who had been around to hear of the small pavilion which hadn't lasted long. It was a pointless name, but she still wore it, and needed to wear it proudly.

"My business? Simply returning home after a stay in Riverfall and a long journey home." She smiled at that, happy at the thought.
"I simply ride ahead for I miss my home, and wish to return to it as soon as I can. Is there anything wrong with that?" Her words were honest, but her smile was sly, permanently appearing as if she was up to mischief. Merevaika had done nothing wrong, however.

Dravite smiled, he could understand the woman’s enthusiasm, recalling what it had been like to see the high pitched tents of Endrykas peeking above the low rolling slopes in the spring when the Windborne pavilion he had grown up in sought refuge in the city of tents for a few days to restock before they lost themselves in the tall grass again; taking their chances out on the golden tide that was the Sea of Grass. Understanding, patience he signed to her while they awaited news from the two men that had darted ahead to check out the rest of the group.

Upon their return not two chimes later, one leaned close to Dravite and explained that most of them, if not all didn’t seem to be from Endrykas, but intended to visit along with their guide, Merevaika. None of them had responded well to the investigating group and didn’t seem to understand much of the language. The horse lord straightened up on his large, buckskin stallion and turned his attention on Merevaika once more; this time, he was not smiling.
“We’ve had a lot of trouble with outsiders this fall, two of The Watch were brutally cut down in a public place, a woman was beheaded and another has gone missing east of our territory in the last few days, thus, we’re forced to ask that you set up camp here for the night while our team go through your belongings and question the members of the group you’re traveling with; if everything checks out, you will be permitted to enter the city tomorrow morning by the tenth bell.”

He glanced over her momentarily, she did not seem ill, but perhaps a little tired; Stormchaser was not a name he had come across during his time in the city, but her windmarks and firm grasp on the language made her all-Drykas. With that the man signed, thank you for your cooperation, which made his words seem so final, the fact that he looked away after this clearly said that he would not accept any form of argument from the woman, no matter how desperate she was to enter the city.

The young woman at his side smiled at Dravite and gave a curt nod of her head as if to say that she agreed with his decision; Coral hadn’t been in The Watch long, but appreciated that she was trusted to tag along on smaller missions such as these. Dravite signalled for Lian and the others to start with their search and questioning while the group of travellers were free to start setting up their camp, far enough away that they would not be considered a threat, but close enough within the patrolled area of the city’s outskirts that they would feel safe overnight.

While the group set to work, Dravite distanced himself from the team and rode his horse in the direction the travellers had come from to make sure no one else was wandering behind them. He commanded his Strider to stop just out of sight and slipped from the animal’s back to sit down in the tall grass and fall into a trance that would take him deep into the web, letting him cover a lot more ground. He doubled back soon and sent a message home, informing his betters of the arrival of a group traveling from Riverfall; remaining in the web to await any further orders.

Lian listened intently as the woman introduced herself as Merevaika Stormchaser. Although he was unfamiliar with her pavilion, she was obviously Drykas. Had she been alone, allowing her to pass into the city would be a mere formality. But the foreigners with her changed matters considerably.

With all of the trouble they had had with foreigners in the city earlier in the season, no one wanted to risk allowing more of them through the gates without being completely certain that they were not a threat. The woman, Drykas or not, was under some suspicion as well, merely for being with the group of outsiders. Not as much as she would have been had she not been a Drykas, of course, but Lian was more than a little relieved when Dravite told Merevaika that she and the others would have to camp outside the city overnight, giving them a chance to search their belongings, and question the foreigners.

When Dravite gestured for him to begin searching the group, Lian moved towards Merevaika with purpose. She seemed like a good place to start. Lian didn't really expect to find anything out of the ordinary, but it was wise to check all the same. By starting with Merevaika first, he was at least giving her the courtesy of not having to wait while the foreigners were searched and questioned.

"Sorry about this." he offered politely, with a gesture of "mild apology," and "required."

If uncontested, Lian would begun a careful search of the woman's belongings. He would be through, but take the added care needed so that nothing would be damaged in any way. He would even carefully put things back where he found them if allowed to do so.

"Why were you in Riverfall? How long were you there? Who are these foreigners, and what is their purpose here?" were among a few of the questions he asked Merevaika as he did his job..

Return To Endrykas

Postby Merevaika on October 12th, 2015, 6:00 pm

Merevaika

The two men who had been sent to talk to her companion returned, and one reported back to the man who seemed in charge of the group. Merevaika couldn't quite make out what was being said, but after it, the main man turned to her without a smile, and she could sense bad news. Her body tensed, and Eryunt sensed the uncomfortable feeling, tensing himself. They prepared themselves for what was to come.

There had been "trouble with foreigners", she was meant to be searched and questioned. "Tomorrow?" The feelings in her voice were mimicked in her hand symbols. Anger, fustration, disbelief. "I am not a foreigner! I am Drykas! I deserve my home!" The man simply signed Thank you for your cooperation and the woman smiled, nodding her head with agreement. This was not happening. This couldn't be. They were denying her of her right to enter her home, and were expecting her to go along with it.

This man moved away, and she spat at him, signing a few more angry signs. He didn't deserve to be a member of the Watch. He deserved to be an unbonded pig.

Another, one with long dark brown hair, moved forward to search her, apologizing. At least her had the courtesy to do so. She deserved more than an apology, and this man wasn't the one who was meant to give it to her. He was just following orders, and felt her disappointment. Or seemed to anyway. Handing over her possessions, she let him search them, knowing there was nothing in there that was incriminating. All he would find would be the last few remains of her rations, her clothes, her survival and household possessions and the leashes and grooming kit. The worst thing he could find would be her bow and her knife, which she carried anyway, the bow on her back and the knife at her hip. And they were more tools than weapons, and to believe she meant harm with them would be idiotic, as she hunted.

Searching her would be futile, but she let him, and he was careful, even packing everything back away. He seemed nice, the polite, respectable member of the Watch. Not the type the other man was.

He asked her questions, and she answered them bored, although without any refusal. "I visited Riverfall to explore a new city, to learn, to have a change of scenery. I simply stayed because there was more to explore. I arrived sometime in spring,"Uncertainty, forgot "And the foreigners are my companions. One, the kelvic, shares a tent with me. The benshira woman mines. There is a guide also, who is simply guiding us, and I don't think he will stay long anyway. I don't know about Zephari, but the Kelvic is simply coming because I am, and because he shares a tent. That is as far as I know."

"A Kelvic, one of the desert folk, and two Drykas," Dravite admitted through the web.
"And what of the Drykas?" The echoed voice of his better replied.
"One is a professional guild, the other his aspiring, or so he's told us."
"And of the professional?"
"He seeks no more than enough food to get him back to Riverfall and has no quarrels with waiting."
"I will send a man with a parcel of food for him so that he may start his journey to the garden city."
"Any further orders?" Dravite inquired.
"Ask the Drykas woman who she and her friends intend to stay with while they are here."
"As you wish, Aris."
"Oh and Blackwater?"
"Yes?"
"Nothing, report back in person by the eighteenth bell."
"I'll be there."

Dravite drifted back through the web slowly and did a loop of the city outskirts to double check for anything that might bring them trouble during the night. Other than a pair of feisty looking jackals, all seemed well on the plain. The return to his physical form was a snug fit and Dravite strained his neck until he felt a familiar and rather comforting click of his backbone.

Cree was turned back towards the group at a trot before the horse lord gave the command for his Strider to gallop. Feeling the wind in his hair was unlike any freedom he knew and though he understood the Drykas woman must be upset with him, only someone who had seen what he had seen in his line of work could truly understand the dangers even a group this small posed to the city. She would feel differently, he thought, if it was her father or mother that had been gutted in front of her this fall. His job was to protect the masses and every decision was made with careful deliberation and thought on his part.

Dravite turned Cree towards the group with a nudge of his foot and was slowly intersected by Coral who saw the Strider stop suddenly in his tracks. The horse lord held on to the yvas tightly and righted himself on the animal's back to pull up alongside her. "They don't seem to be traveling with anything strange," she assured the man.
"And do they look in good health?" Dravite asked.
"Just exhausted after their trip; though the woman who greeted us at the front seems to have a spitting problem."
"Understandable," the man nodded before perking a brow, "spitting?"
Coral waved and tried not to laugh, "she spat after you as you left."
Dravite's mouth hardened to form an unamused line on his face, disgusting, he signed, foul, disrespect, un-Drykas-like, "how strange."

The two rode on and parted ways when Coral returned to the second part of the group to help her comrades. Dravite returned to Lian who seemed to be packing up his search, "who was it you intended to stay with during your time here?" Dravite inquired, cutting straight to the question; if he had seemed approachable and soft natured before, all of that was gone now, "we will need to check with the group to find out whether or not they're expecting you. If you know where the other two will be staying, please let me know."

Just then a young watchman rode up the rise with a package intended for the guide; he couldn't have been any older than thirteen but was decorated with his windmarks and travelled upon the back of a fine palomino mare, undoubtedly Strider, "for the guide?" The boy smiled.
"He is over there," Dravite pointed.

The boy rode on to deliver the goods before turning to home. Merevaika's guide pulled up alongside her and held out his hand for payment, "Riverfall to Endrykas as promised," he smiled, as if somewhat sorry to hear the group was being forced to camp out; nothing he hadn't seen before which was why he would prefer to get back on the road.

Lian was relieved when the woman didn't resist the required search. Her possessions were pretty much what one would expect to find on one who had traveled through the Sea of Grass. The remains of food rations, clothes, survival gear, a grooming kit, a bow, and a knife. The bow and knife were on her body rather than in her pack. But they were to be expected, too. It would be a stupid fool indeed who dared travel through the Sea of Grass without a weapon.

The questions were answered promptly. And if the woman sounded bored, Lian couldn't really blame her. Lian couldn't personally see the attraction of going to Riverfall at all, never mind staying for a couple of seasons. Or any other city, for that matter. But he did understand that some people did feel such an urge. For some, it was because they were unbonded and were seeking something more than they had among the Clans. That was obviously not the case for this woman. But trade was plentiful between Endrykas and Riverfall. While he had little use for anything beyond his home, he did know that some people were curious about strange places. It wasn't for him, but there was nothing wrong about being curious about what was different, and strange. And it was better to explore such things away from Endrykas rather than risk bringing something home that might harm them.

The other Drykas was a guide. That seemed strange to Lian since the woman was a Drykas. Why would she need a guide back to her own home? Then again, not every Drykas was skilled in Webbing. If it were him, he would be able to sink into the Web, and find his way home. His problem would be with the distance currently between the two cities. Being able to find his way home, and actually being able to get there were two very different things. So maybe she simply wasn't skilled in Webbing. The thought of needing a guide wasn't so strange then. Another possibility was that the woman was working with the guide. Either as a hunter, or a guard.

Talk of a miner was of more concern to Lian than the need for a guide. Lian didn't pretend to know much about mining, but he did think he remembered hearing once that miners were people who violated the earth in search of treasures and secrets. Such things were a terrible violation of the goddess Semele. And as such, they were completely, and utterly wrong. Forbidden. Lian didn't like the idea of a miner entering the city. What if the foreign woman decided to try and dig up the ground all over Endrykas? Or elsewhere in the Sea of Grass? She would bear watching while she was in the city. The kelvic was of less concern, but would still bear watching as long as he stayed in the city. With him, though, the concern was simple due to him being a foreigner, nothing more personal.

Lian might have been concerned that there were more foreigners lingering in the distance, possibly in an attempt to ambush the Watch members who were confronting the group. But when Dravite returned, he came from the direction the group had arrived from. And he didn't look tense, or alarmed. Knowing that his friend had probably gone to search for signs of others in the Web, Lian was reassured that there were none.

Dravite began questioning the Drykas woman intently. Who was she staying with? Did they know she was coming? Did she know where the two foreigners would be staying? Lian listened carefully to the questions, and would do the same when the woman answered them. Dravite's mood had changed completely in the time he was gone. All signs of being approachable were gone. Lian wondered what had caused the change. But now wasn't the time to ask.

When Lian got the chance, he would inform Dravite of what he had found and learned while questioning the Drykas woman. But this wasn't the time for that, either. For now, he would stand beside his friend, offering a unified front.

Lian kept a close eye on the group. But he also watched as a young Watchman rode up on a palomino strider mare. The boy was carrying a package, which he gave to the Drykas guide once Dravite pointed him out. Then he left. Lian realized that arrangements for the package to be brought had been made through the Web. Once he had gone, the guide turned to Merevaika, clearly expecting to be paid for his services. The tone in the man's voice, suggested that he wasn't at all surprised to learn that the group had to spend the night camped outside the city, and that he was eager to get back on the road again.

Lian paid close attention to what Dravite was doing. The questions he asked, how he asked them, even the tone he used. Although this wasn't his first mission...and hopefully this mission would go better than his first had...he had not been on many yet. So he wanted to learn everything he could from the more experienced Watch members in the group in preparation for when he was given solo missions, or ones where he was the most experienced member in the group..

Return To Endrykas

If the Drykas in charge had been rude before, he was even worse now, absolutely no sign of welcoming. He came back on his horse, a Strider forced to carry a man of his behaviour, most likely, and began demanding more questions. It appeared that this would be endless, barraged with stupid pointless questions that has no answers or had been asked a million times before. If the man cared to look, he would see the anger emanating from her, face half scowled and body tight, holding itself with superiority. She was the true Drykas here, watch or not.

Before she had chance to answer the questions, a boy from the city delievered a package to her guide, who had come up to her to ask for the money. That was how they had arranged it. Payment on delivery, apart from enough to cover the purchases of equipment. Rooting around in her bags, she managed to find enough to satisfy him, passing it over with politeness. Just like the man should have acted towards her. She smiled, but angry eyes darted over to him, as if to say this is the way to treat me.

Once the business with the guide had concluded, her face sunk back into the frown, facing the members of the Watch again. His questions had been absurd, and she almost laughed just thinking about them. Who was she staying with? Who was she, the woman with no pavilion staying with? Her reply was dripping heavily with sarcasm. "I'm staying with the Ziths. Although there is a dhani there too. Perhaps it was one of those Symnaestra people - all the same to me." She rolled her eyes, before giving the true response, this one laced with utter boredom. " The kelvic is staying with me, and I don't know about Zephari. If you wanted someone who is inside Endrykas, you aren't getting anything. There's no one to name. I hope that suits you, if so, I'll be going then. "

Merevaika clicked her horse forward, moving away from the group towards the city with desperation. She wouldn't move fast, not as if she was escaping, but only get Eryunt into a light trot. If someone got in her way, she would most likely just glare at them, before trying to move around them. Denviel scampered up to her, casting nervous looks at all the men around. Sensing the anger she had towards them, he growled lightly as he followed, warning them to move away.

Hopefully Kei and Zephari would get through their interviews. She felt sorry for them, but almost wished she hadn't taken them. Perhaps if that was the case, the entry into Endrykas would be easy. But they had come with her, and now she was stuck waiting to enter, with a large group of the Watch have come to greet her. What had happened when she had left? Merevaika was losing patience, and if they tried to stop her, they'd have to deal with a very angry Drykas woman.
