Trading was something she was familiar with. But to trade twenty goldsworth of something, that was impossible. The only thing she had of real expense was her swords, and she would not let those go. But she'd be willing to trade something.

"Two hundred gold, and I will give you a pretty good lock and key." She called out, trying to think up a way to make it sound more spectacular than it was. "It's from Alvadas." She added, even though it was lame. She knew that metal was not easy to come across in Endrykas, and while she couldn't remember what price she had paid for it, she doubted it was all that much in Alvadas. "Metal, if you want it." She hooked a thumb back towards the city to show that she didn't have it with her. Tucking her left knee in, she gripped hte Yvas and turned bones back towards the city, glancing behind her to make sure that Drykas was going to follow her.

When he did turn around with her, Mayra thought about what exactly buying a pregnant horse entailed. "Do you think I can make it to Eyktol on Bones? With the foal?" She asked, suddenly worried. Once she got there, to her people, she would find help. But while she was on her own, she would be lost on what to do. Her area of birthing extended to dogs and cats. And her knowledge on foals was non-existant. So if this foal was born when she was on her own, there was no hope Dravite would get it back, even if she planned on coming back. "I can't take care of it until I get to my tribe." She admitted. She didn't have to say that if Bones wouldn't make it with the foal, he wouldn't be getting the foal back. That much was obvious to both parties.

Unless, of course, Bones wasnt due for a while. Mayra didn't know, but Dravite did. Perhaps his lack of worry meant she would be fine, but the halfbreed just wanted to make sure.

Dravite had Cree turn after Bones and follow the mare back towards the city. Mayra had changed their price again which caused them man to think perhaps her offer of the lock and key might actually be worth something, but for a man who had grown up with nothing being sacred to him, what in the world would he use a lock and key for? “Alvadas,” the man repeated and not knowing any better, agreed to the trade before they made it to Mayra’s camp, “Lock from strange land,” he nodded, “Good.”

Of course, Mayra had asked about Bones and her foal and whether or not the horse would make the trip. Something about that made the usually detached woman seem somehow endearing; she cared about animals, a trait they shared. “Mare good travel, spring foal; no worry,” he explained, “Mayra ride careful, Bones go far; useless pony carry goods.”

When they got to Mayra’s camp Dravite climbed down from his Strider and went to the mare to pet her face and stroke the hair from her eyes; they had been through a lot of gruelling training together, but finally the animal knew how to show her rider some respect. He had been thrown from her back a couple of times, once going right over her head, but looking at the pair now, no one would know, for he held no grudges and it seemed neither did she.
“Keep yvas,” he insisted, “fit Bones well.”

Trusting Dravite for his word, she ducked into the tent. It wasn't hard to find the lock and key, since she hadn't actually touched it since it was tossed at hte bottom of her things. Most of her tent had been cleared out anyway. Small gifts trades in the market, usually for food, to get rid of her excess junk. It wasn't hard to travel short distances with, but for the long trekk she would certainly need significantly less. Txiro wouldn't be necessary. Examining the metal, she realized it wasn't the best quality but shrugged it off.

When she emerged, there was a heavy chunk of metal in one fist an a small coinpurse in the other. Yet the mixed breed did not immediately hand Dravite his loot. "Dravite." She said, hesitating. As if giving him his payment would seal the deal, which it would. And if their trade was complete, then it would mean that she had no excuse not to go now. "You want Txiro as well?" She turned her converstaion abruptly, motioning towards the pony who had followed them back. "I'm not taking much with me. I won't need him." She grinned at the silly notion. As if Dravite would take the pack pony for anything. Or would he? The man seemed to think the beast was a nuisance rather than what Mayra saw as a huge help during moves.

Not wanting to prolong the unofficial goodbye any longer, she extended her claws to present the thin gold rimmed coins to Dravite, but held onto the lock. Once he had taken them, she wiggle the key loose from where it was tied to the lock with a thin twine strap. Sticking it in the lock, she handed it to him as well. "Don't petch it up. I paid good money for that." She lied. She didn't acutally know how much she paid for it, but she knew the metal lock would be wortha little more value to him than her. She didn't need to lock anything up anymore. She was going to be with family.

And then she couldn't help herself. The knowledge that it would only be a few days before set was on her own was weighing down on her. Not giving the barbarian a warning, she lept forward, wrapping her arms around the one man she could have considered a friend. But the halfbreed only squeezed him for a moment before letting go, prepared to give a healthy insult if he commented on the fact. She wasn't going to say goodbye though, that would simply be too much.

Learning To Ride

Dravite looked a little taken aback by the offer Mayra had made for him to take Txiro. He stared at the pony for a long time and came to the conclusion that he had no use for it whatsoever, and yet, again he wondered about the offer; did Mayra think the pony would be better off in Endrykas? Would he suffer in the desert?

In one hand she placed the small coin purse and in the other, the lock and key; something about the exchange seemed to say ‘goodbye,’ though Dravite would refuse to utter such words. When Mayra embraced him then, with his hands full, Dravite had little time to react, though the way he leaned forwards as the woman quickly retracted seemed to suggest that he was about to hug her in turn. The horse lord smiled, slipped the items into the pockets of his trousers and fixed his shirt where it had come loose.

“Dravite look after pony,” he agreed, “Teach Kyan care for horse. Mayra take when return,” of course he assumed that Mayra did indeed plan on returning and that this would be a short term arrangement.

He stepped closer to the woman and reached out as if to take her hand, only to close his fingers around her upper arm instead and offer a reassuring squeeze. After a tick he pulled Mayra into a hug and pressed a kiss to her cheek, “Mayra find home,” the watchman said, “Or come home.”

After that he departed having given Bones one last pat. He took the useless pony Txiro with him, rope wrapped loosely around the animal’s neck as he led it away on foot with Cree keeping pace at his side; the large stallion took a rather comical looking glance at the pony as if he didn’t quite understand why it was following his bonded rider. Dravite didn’t look back, that wasn’t the Drykas way.
