Hey all,

Just popping in to let you know that, as the new AS, I'll be taking over for Goss in the Suvan Sea's development. Don't worry, that doesn't mean I don't want your ideas. In fact, I'd love to continue hearing them! Having other people's input will make the Suvan Sea that much more creative and fun...and will make my job a whole lot easier! However, I would like to change a couple of things - mainly, instead of posting the locations yourself in the forum, post them here and I'll post them in the forum myself. This is for organization issues more than anything else, and I'll be sure to say who gave the idea for that location.

Also, I'd like to have all the locations in the Linkmap filled out before adding new ones. If you could try and think up ideas for these already existing locations (many are nothing more than a name - shouldn't be too hard) then I'd be much obliged.

While I'll work on writing up any and all unclaimed locations, those will still be open for anyone's ideas. However, there are a couple of places I'd like to write up myself, so I am going to request the following locations are not chosen...

- Caiyha's Fist Isle
- Skywatch Observatory
- Blood Isles
- Kalista Island
- Cape Deception
- Siku's Breath

That's really all I have to say for that. All the submissions thus far are really good, guys. I can't find any fault with them. All three (Black Beach Cavern, Ryker's Point, and Yuanu Ruins) will be added, though I will just name the akvatari of Ryker's Point as the Siren of Ryker's Point instead of creating a name for her that nobody would know in the first place. (That, of course, might change if someone actually encounters this Siren.)

The shipwrighting facilities sound like a good idea, Marlow, although it seems like they would be in a city for no other reason than they would need supplies. However, I will talk with the rest of the staff and see about it, since that would play a large part in the Suvan Sea.

Cassidy, you hit the nail on the head with your description of the climate, but I think what Goss has down in the Linkmap are fine in terms of describing the temperature and climate conditions in the region. The details will be left up to the players in their independent threads.

I'll also see to it that the locations Goss has already accepted get added.

Overall, thank you all so much for the incredible ideas you've given to the Suvan Sea and I hope to see more!

Visai Caverns


Right next to the sea, filled with salt soaked air resides the caverns. The few that know of the caverns existence mostly come to know it as a good place to weather out the harsh winter storms that roll across the land, and in it's depth can be found the remnants of a sole few long forgotten campfires. From land, the cavern's are for the most part invisible, the wide, slim entrance hidden by the tall grass and sloping landscape leaving many a drykas to pass by it without knowing it was ever there. From see, on a bright morning it can be seen, but it isn't the most inviting sight, and nor does the landscape around it provide a very inviting berth for a curious one's ship. Those few that have ventured inside never before have ventured deeper than the opening chamber, and if they had, no tales linger to speak of what happened to them.

In it's depths, even animals as fearsome as the glassbeaks do not venture for whatever reason. Bones litter the walls that border it's sides, seeming to coat the very floor as the patch continues and bizarre paintings drawn in blood soon begin to mar the walls. At the end rests a small chamber, a pool of murky water resting in its center, and in every inch of stone surface are glyphs of varying size and complexity. A tattered, bundle of cotton rests in a corner of the seemingly empty chamber, the lone remnants of what had once been a bedroll. The chamber's occupant is rarely seen, once feared, and now quite mad. Where exactly he is in the vast caverns at any point in time is impossible to predict. The sole oddity of the place besides all the frantic scribble is the finely crafted wooden portal hewn into the chamber's back wall that remains a mystery to even the current occupant of said chamber. Runes and glyphs cover to portal's surface though, and should a rational mind view it with maybe a touch of magic to help him, he could see the powerful shields that web across it's surface.

Formerly a traveling mage of some renown overgiving and years spent alone have rotted his mind, and so forced him to stay in seclusion as his paranoia reached it's peak. Once he did not live alone, once his dear friend had kept him company, but those times are long past now along with the man's memory of what had happened to his good friend. Yes, it was perhaps for the better that he did not remember that by his own hands he killed his friend, and better yet that he does not recognize the bleached white bones of his former companion resting only but a few feet from his long abused bedroll. No, Alarous is much lost, much to lost to even question why there is a wooden portal hewn into the stone wall, or why none of his efforts seem to open it.

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

As of now, all locations (including Visai Caverns, so that's accepted too) posted here have been added to the Suvan Sea and it's linkmap. I changed around the wording and distribution of skills of most of them, in small quantities, but here are some of the bigger changes:

  • There in no ghost in Black Beach Cavern.
  • I added a drykas spiritist to Yuanu Ruins.
  • I changed the picture for Yuanu Ruins, Ryker's Point, and Visai Caverns.

Anyways, guys, thanks for all the help so far, and keep the ideas coming!

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

Hi, Trident!

Have you considered sort of developing a location, like an island in the Suvan Sea, where the pirates meet up (though outsiders are, I guess, welcome as well), or where a number of them reside in (like elders)? This idea also sprout out because I noticed most of the other races have major cities. I know the Svefra "own" the sea itself, but it's so vast, and a place for meet-ups would probably be cool as well (think Shipwreck Cove from Pirates of the Caribbean!). It could also serve as a place for those who need shipwrights, etc. I think I saw that idea somewhere in this thread.

...I totally got this idea from watching Pirates of the Caribbean for the nth time.

Sorry for throwing in this idea while the others aren't done yet, but I thought I might as well before I forget. I know you're busy, so feel free to scrap this. ;p Also, is it so obvious I am obsessed with the Svefra (harharhar).

Hi Gabby,

How is it that you can always read my mind? A meeting place is already in the works, courtesy of Archelon. It's known as the Anchorage Flotilla and is a literal town of boats that travel around. Svefra and sailors use it as a neutral trading/meeting place. It's next on my list, so it should be up soon!

Kanvi Whirlpool

The Kanvi Whirlpool is a bit of a misnomer. It is much more aptly named as a maelstrom due to its size and strength. This maelstrom is well known to those that inhabit the area. It is the largest known, and can be quite dangerous to medium sized ships, especially those not of Svefra design. It is several times wider than the prized Palivar of the Svefra. Those finely attuned to the seas know that it is formed by the collision of two extremely deep currents, one from the southern, warmer waters, and another from the northern, more temperate seas. Due to its size, the Kanvi Whirlpool is easily seen from a distance, and therefore, easily avoided. There isn't much danger to the Svefra's finely made ships, and many of the bolder sailors will test their Casinors in the maelstrom. The small nimble ships make it easy to ride atop the swirl and escape. The larger Palivar is able to power through the whirlpool due to the sheer amount of wind its sails can catch.

The Kanvi Whirlpool is much more than a simple danger of the seas though. It is a habitat of strange proportions. Most notable are the Kanvi squid, the highest member of this strange food chain. The squid enjoy the protection of the maelstrom from large predators such as sharks and dolphins, while feeding upon the other inhabitants. Strangely enough, the hierarchy isn't just metaphorical in the Kanvi, but also literal. The squid patrol the highest levels of the whirlpool, often feeding upon new arrivals, or the fish that make up the next tier below. Many of the fish here are small, and dart like, so as to be able to navigate the whirlpool more easily.

If one is unlucky enough, or especially lucky, they will reach the base of the whirlpool, all the way at the bottom of the sea floor. This area is the whole reason why this ecosystem exists. There are several large walls and spires of coral down here that protect the base of the whirlpool from outside predators. This area is often referred to as Laviku's Throne.

The squid, and all inhabitants, lay their eggs here. One might think these eggs would be easy pickings for another species in here, but that is not the case. Because the parents' aren't able to stay and watch over all of the eggs due to the nature of living in a whirlpool, they must be watched by another.

The Nursery Shrimp

The Nursery Shrimp is unique to the Kanvi Whirlpool. It's inherent duty is to protect all of the eggs of the inhabitants of the Whirlpool's ecosystem. But it doesn't do this job for free. The cost? Eggs. More specifically are eggs that will not hatch. No one knows how the Nursery Shrimp can detect it, but it is able to know which eggs will survive long enough to hatch, and those that won't. So in exchange for protection, it eats the bad eggs, and allows the healthy ones to live. Any fish that attempts to feed here is quickly dealt with in a flash of deadly teeth and razor sharp spines by all of the shrimp in the area. They protect as one, and kill as one.

Many Svefra desire both the eggs and the shrimp themselves, as neither are found anywhere else. So the strongest, boldest, and luckiest of the Svefra will attempt the deadly swim, or ride out the whirlpool, to the bottom, just for an attempt to retrieve a single egg. They are an extreme delicacy, and are often sought after by those down on their luck, or those testing their limits. No Svefra has ever been able to continuously farm these with significant success. Luck seems to be one of the most important factors of all, a common trait of the seas.

Here is Lake Levar! I said I would write it up a long time ago. I'm really sorry that it took so long. If anything seems off or wrong, let me know and I'll fix it up :)

Lake Levar is a large but somewhat secluded lake which is not too far from the limits of Karjin. The lake sits not too far from the shore of the Suvan Sea. The lake is surrounded on all sides, except one where the lake stretches out into Suki Bay, by stone about one hundred feet high. Upon these stone walls grows all sorts of Talderian flora. Mosses, ivy, and even gigantic trees have dug their roots into these stones. Some say this stone was blessed by Tivaku which causes the plants to grow so lushly in it's crevices. Others claim it is Kihala who breathes life into the rock where normally plants could not grow. Both stories seem to bring about their God or Goddess' followers to see if the myths are true.

There are only two ways to reach Lake Levar without jumping from the tall stone walls. There is a opening at the south of the lake which is on a down slope to the rocky bed to the lake. There is no true shore to speak of on the lake. Only places where the rocks are higher and enable the visitor to stand higher.

ImageThe other way to enter is through Suki Bay, which juts out on the south east side of the lake. The walls of the lake slowly shorten as they reach the bay until they finally seem to disappear into the stone bed of the water. The shore stretches out from the water to touch the land near Karjin. The shore is made of smooth stones of all sizes and shapes. Some are even rumored to have been formed from runoff pebbles from the lake's stone walls.

The level of the water is constantly fluctuating due to the little room for runoff of water, except at the Suki Bay. It all depends on how much rain the lake receives. There are times when the lake appears to have a bit of a shore due to it's water evaporating and exposing the stones at it's bed. On the same note, there are times when the water begins to creep up the down slope to the lake and one must swim just to get within the stone walls if they are not at the bay entrance.

The creation of Lake Levar was one made solely of nature. The snow and rain eroded the center. Where the lake now sits had been a depression in the ground to begin with but with Taldera's harsh winters and fair share of rain, the elements carved out the land where the lake sits now.

Lake Levar is populated by many different kinds of fish from trout, to salmon, to pike. One can also find otter swimming in it's waters. On occasion bears, weasels, foxes, or other predators will venture into the lake in search of fish or a place to wash their fur.

Location: Mid-western Upper Suvan Sea

Among the sunken treasures of the Suvan Sea is Crown Reef. Named for its characteristically shaped coral spires, Crown Reef had only started as a Charoda’s get away. A home away from home, a palace in its own right, Crown Reef has its own high walls, corridors, and towers…on a miniature scale. The only true royalty about it is the centerpiece reef structured with a living space and large storage space. What once housed artifacts of the past have been taken away by some means unknown. The high walls of the mini-castle kept larger predators like sharks out, and the towers were mostly built for a signal. The towers in their entirety are coated in a phosphorescent coral species that glows in the deep, dark ocean, a signal for the original architect to find his way home. Since then, other coral species have been rooted in the surrounding area, making the castle more vibrant than ever.

The castle, unfortunately, has long been abandoned, even after years of Charodae migrating through or even moving in. However, that has left plenty of room for expansion. Charodae have used their gift to change this once small castle to a post in its own right. While mostly dominated by small and crude coral structures to serve basic necessities, some of the sea-dwellers have adapted the area into a check point for many of the few underwater adventurers. Seahorses and velispars can be tended to and most long terms residents are fairly competent in their coral manipulation to set new comers up with the basics if another part of the reef isn’t open already. Sometimes functioning as a market for the deep sea adventure types, there are plenty of weird gizmos and relics to find there. Where they came from is unknown to most.

The structure of Crown Reef is fairly basic. Over the span of a small fort, as far as Charodae-specific accommodations are concerned, the reef stacks up “two stories” over an underwater hill. The coral that makes up the reef’s structure is rough, boney, and alive. The reef naturally expends by itself, and the Charodae are sure to keep their doors open by curving the tops outward. Other invasive species, brought for decoration and utility, also populate the reef and its surrounding area. The whole reed lights up in the darkest hours. The hill is just high enough for the noon sky above and the sun’s rays to reach and light up the reef.

The hill itself is questionably formed by volcanic rock. Magma vents a few miles from the hill are periodically spewing molten earth up in formation of a new hill which, once it has grown to a point, is pushed away with the moving crust of the world making way for a new hill to form. There’s only rumor of Azneth Charodae patrolling the area to prevent the total formation or eruption of an underwater volcano, but no one ever notices a Charoda living around long enough to manage that.

Joining the Charodae, velispars, and seahorses are a number of aquatic species – fish, crustaceans, cephalopods, and mollusks. No dire species are native to the area, and the sheer design usually does not permit for sharks, dolphin or whales – although pods are still a wonder to witness when they pass over the hill or along its summit. The community is based around the idea of B.Y.O.S., “bring your own…stuff.” The reef is accessible on all sides and welcomes many. The reef itself is deep enough to avoid the raider threads above and, it that’s not enough, is also walled in like the Crown Castle itself.

For a Charoda on the open seas, this is one of the places under the world to see at least once, and all the more often if in search of some adventure in the northern Suvan.

All these ideas are great, guys! All of them are accepted, albeit with minor edits - all of that will be listed below. I've already added Kanvi Squid and Nursery Shrimp to the wiki, and all three locations will be added to the forum soon.
