Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

I like the sound of Glasswater Bay (and Torvin Island), but it might be a little too far south for me to do?
If it is then I can try Karjin Bay.

Great job so far guys. I'll beautify your posts with headers and proper backgrounds later in the week, and once they are good to go, you can post them yourselves in the Suvan! I'll fix up the linkmap with links too.

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

Postby Lier Wavedancer on July 6th, 2011, 6:32 pm

Since I'm playing a Svefra now, I thought it'd be nifty to help develop some locations I can use as background for threads. Here's the first... I hope people like it. :)

Black Beach Cavern

Image

Located at the northern tip of Cyphrus, Black Beach Cavern is largely unknown to local land-dwellers and invisible to merchant ships that do not sail closely to the coast. The Svefra who have discovered the location a long time ago assume that it is part of the ancient cave system their Drykas neighbors used before the Valterrian struck.

Black Beach can only be accessed through a small opening that is easy to sail past without noticing anything. The opening is almost circular, speaking of skilled hands that carved the cavern, and the tides added the rest. Because of its size, only a small Casinor can pass through and only when the waves are low during ebb. A few feet into the cavern water turns into land. It is sand mixed with soft earth that the visitor finds, adding an unusually dark shade to the ground. It is not quite sand, but not quite earth, one side of the story behind Black Beach’s name. Shrubs of grass and small bushes grow around the beach area, but do not populate the back for Syna’s rays do not reach it anymore. The whole cavern is shaped like a large worm, with curved walls, a ceiling made of earth and rock, and sandy ground. Remnants of campfires scatter the entrance area. Towards the back, the occasional empty bottle of rum can be found. Sometimes these bottles still have some liquid in them, or a mysterious message a drunken Svefra might have left for the next visitor.

A ballad is known, sung in Fratava, that centers on Black Beach Cavern. It tells the story of two people in love, a young woman and an old man who was struck by a terminal illness. When the man was about to die, the woman brought him to the cavern and begged Dira not to take him away from her yet. However, the Goddess was merciless and took the man’s life just when his body reached its limit. The woman mourned and stayed at the cavern for days and days, cared for by her family. When she finally left she composed a ballad that would forever remind the Svefra of her story and how Black Beach Cavern got its name.

After that, several who have visited the cavern at night tell of a strange whispering and moaning. They believe the ghost of the woman’s lover still haunts the cavern, hoping for her return. Also, most Svefra believe that visiting the cavern and leaving a bottle of rum or some food behind as a gift honors the dead and calms Dira.

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

Ruins where Suva once was there? I'd love to see try and dive down and see if I can find anything there. Maybe a few ship raiser npcs, people who raise/loot shipwrecked ships. (Yes tech should be good enough to do most boats imo)

I definitely second the idea of underwater ruins. I think it would be really neat.

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

What I'm interested in is the shipwrighting facilities of the Svefra in Taldera. I'm most interested in the shipyard where they built the last Lia'Tavanka's Navar.

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

Postby Cassidy Undertow on October 5th, 2011, 10:16 pm

I'd be interested in writing up the climate section for the Suvan Sea, but before I wanted to make sure my mental image of it wasn't too far off the mark. I kind of imagine the Northern Suvan to be like the black sea but a bit on the cooler side and the Southern to be like the Mediterranean conditions.

I'm only comparing them like this so I can get a basis for what kind of sea conditions there would be during each season; thunderstorms, water spouts, calm seas etc.

Suvan Sea Development - Ideas and Requests

Postby Archelon on October 6th, 2011, 12:52 am

People wanted an underground ruined city so.. *shrugs* :) YAY for random idea chains from reading this thread. You guys can take this from here :P

Ryker's Point

Image

Ryker's Point is a series of sea spires near the center of the Suvan Sea, serving it's purpose as guide to the many ships which pass or in the worst case scenario: tie up to in a storm...

These tall stone formations are actually unnatural in their making, formed from ancient windworn and crumbling minarets of a once proud city of Suva which now lies deep beneath the ocean waves. If one person were to enter the 'sea caves' of Ryker's point succesfully they would find themselves reaching ancient stairwells that dive deep under the ocean's surface into theflooded areas of the city below. Though in truth- pressurized pockets still remain deep below the minarets in some of the larger buildings, but who knows if they 're still breathable?

Rumors say there is the ghost of an ancient akvatari siren remains on Ryker's point, and rumors of her singing have lead many a mariner astray. No explorer dispatched to find out the truth of these matters has come back from their explorations yet.

NPC's:
Name : ???? Whatever a female akvatari would be.
Alias: "The Mariner's Woe"
Race : Ghost
Skills: Materialization 30, Singing 51, Seduction 51, Any other applicable skills.
Thank you all for the privildege of moderating, unfortunately with deaths in the family and ailing health I am retiring. All thread grades I had on my pc have been forwarded to founders and paragon, so expect them posted soon.
It's been a mixed bag at times , but with all the good and the bad and mixed signals, I can honestly say: Thank you. Please support the next mods of sunberth as well as you have done me.

Yuanu Ruins

Long forgotten has this place been that resides so close to the grass many hoofed feet trek across each day. The ruins of once was a village that skirted the edge of a empire once proud and strong. The Valterrian was not what had destroyed this village and killed the entire population, no that responsibility rests solely on the shoulders of Emperor Galifer. Seeming to be a mere whim of the spirit he had coldly ordered all of the town's residents slaughtered for 'treason' as he called it. More closer to the truth, pre-val historians whispered that it was more likely that he had done it to cover up a secret, a secret exposed somehow by one of the villagers and brought to his ears by the malicious words of a guard with his own agenda.

There had been no such information uncovered though, the men and women were simple people living there lives as only they could. Galifer didn't care though, and before his very dinner table he saw to it that every man, woman, and child was executed before his dinner table while he laughed and drank to their torment. For a time after that, the place was a congregation place for what is known of still as a 'mass haunting', though none managed to recognize it as so for not a few months later the world tore open and shaped anew. The Valterrian shaped the world before the dead's eyes and most of those that had resided there where at last able to let go of the place of their final passing as the waves of change rolled across the land and returned back to the cycle of things.

Now in the ruins, few ghosts still mill about, and those few are decidedly one and all from a time long past before the Valterrian changed the very essence of things. They yet hold on to there death, and refuse to let themselves fall back into the cycle of reincarnation out of conviction to something still yet unknown. Old stories from when men and women first rose from the caves after the cataclysm tell of silent sentinels forever tasked to watch over a powerful secret buried deep under the founding stone's of the village. What is known by most is little, and only that for the most part any who venture that way usually return strange, and stay that way till at least they are a days ride from the ruins, in which they suddenly seem to awake with no knowledge of what had happened.

NPC LIst- The Four Sentinels

-Alveta Windlo

In life she had been a harpist, and had a talent for sewing, always found to be sitting beside her window sill, or outside on a tree stump to enjoy the sun while she worked. Her quiet demure nature that made her well liked among many in life carried on into death, making her the more pensive out of the four, and the calming presence in the group. By those rare few that have seen her, she has been wearing a simple white dress, and appearing to have her auburn hair tied into a delicate pony tail.

Skills:

Pre-death- Sewing: 51, Harp: 27, Rhetoric: 30, Leadership: 20

As a Ghost- Possession: 30, Soulmist Projection: 85, Materialization: 53

-Gravous Lench

A kind old man in life, a bitter soul in death but one that has learned patience as well. His mind has not weathered the centuries as well as Alveta has, but he has kept strong, and resolute through it all. He was ready for death when his time came, but the death of his own daughter before his eyes kept his spirit tethered to this world in hopes of seeing the mad emperor slain for his grievous action, and with the Valterrian came such a measure of peace, but so to with it came a discovery and one that kept him and the other four close to this spot for fear it might fall into the wrong hands. He is a much rarer site than any of his 'companions' as age, not much caring to be viewed by the living and tends to stay much closer to where his old house had been though he isn't above keeping watch when his time is due. To those unlucky few he appears to he looks to be a serene old man, with crows feet that etch the edges of his eyes, and with a deep scowl that dispels any kindness that may have once been found there.

Skills:

Pre-death: Battle-axe: 27, Running: 27, Tactics: 35

As a Ghost: Possession: 51, Soulmist Projection: 57, Materialization: 52

-Carthen Magestro

A common laborer, and father of five in life made him to be a simple man though much of his history went on known within the sleepy village. Now in death, those he shares vigil with know well the of past he cared to share with him, and though he was young at death, there is yet much he experienced that has made him who he is, and is in no small part responsible for why they must remain here for years on end to guard that which he had help bring here. He usually is the one to deal with any intruders after Alveta has talked with them and they refuse to hear her warning. Most don't remember ever seeing him, though vague recollections consist of a well muscled man walking towards them before everything goes dark.

Skills:

Pre-death: Body Building: 55, Intelligence: 78, Stealth 57, Shortsword: 54

As a Ghost: Possession: 59, Soulmist Projection: 27, Materialization: 87

-Valorona Starveil

A resident wizard of the village for only two years, she is the only one currently among the sentinels not to have been born and lived in the village their entire lives. A profound sadness she has had to endure for all these centuries and it has nearly made her mad on occasion, though Alveta has always been there to keep the grieving one sane and focused on their all to important task. To those rare few that have ventured near, she is often the first to be sighted out of all the sentinels, usually found on the beach near the water kneeling in a tattered grey dress, her wails carrying long over the water for the loss of her beloved.

Skills:

Pre-death: Reimancy: 30, Hypnotism: 27, Morphing: 37, Shielding: 23, Glyphing: 21, Summoning: 57

As a Ghost: Possession: 84, Soulmist Projection: 38, Materialization: 52
