The NPC/Location/Creature Creation Center

Do you have a cool idea that you want to share with the rest of the city? Do you have interesting NPCs that you would love to see in the city? Well, we would love to hear it. Want to share a location, have a vision of someplace that is not currently in Alvadas, create it! You get to work with a great moderators of Alvadas on your little projects. All that I ask is that you:

  • Post creation here
  • A Moderator read it to see if it will fit into Alvadas. If there is anything to change a mod will ask you to fix it and run the edited version past him/her again.
  • Once approved you can post it in the wiki, or in the forums as cannon. All locations I can add to the linkmap.

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

If your player is related to the NPC you create, you need to understand that your PC CANNOT reap unreasonable benefits from the NPC. Meaning, the NPC teaches your PC something, that very same NPC needs to teach everyone something. You don't get a free place to stay, you don't get an added rank, etc. just from being related to the NPC.

You cannot create a location that magically spawns gold and jewels from vapor or holes in the ground. No finding super wizard mega strong magic sticks or the like. Be fair! Flesh this out as much as you can so that those who may decide to play here will have a good idea of what they're working with. Don't leave any room for excuse to get mad at someone who isn't playing your coined location up to your par.

Alvadas NPC/Location/Creature Creation Center

Postby Alric Wilmot on May 12th, 2012, 11:28 pm

Attempt to make an NPC. I intend to be apprenticed by her.

Secret :
Jahoma

Image

Basic Information

Race: Human
Birthday & Age : 467 AV, 45
Gender: Female

Languages

Common: Fluent

Physical Description

Jahoma is a rather plump woman with fair skin. She has grey hair and a thin drawn out face. She regularly wears simple black cotton clothes when out of her Speaker uniform. She has lived a hard life, and it shows on her face. Despite that, it is hard to see her without a smile. She's easy to anger, but in truth she rather enjoys being angry. She usually doesn't bother styling her hair, and leaves it mid-length.

Character Concept

Jahoma is not bitter. She's disagreeable. She does not bother learning other peoples names, instead giving them nicknames based on her first impression. She has no friends, and honestly never wanted any. She is set in her ways, and does not listen to anyone who tries to change them. She dislikes almost everyone, but has been known to take a fancy to the odd or defiant.

She is a Speaker for the Womiyu, and finds her greatest joy in humiliating others. In truth she cares little for Ionu. Instead she joined solely to cause misery to others. She is most definitely sadistic, but is lawful too. She upholds laws and regulations, and gives others begrudging respect if they do the same. If they don't, she won't hesitate to do her job.

She speaks her mind regularly and enjoys insulting others. She even enjoys being insulted, to some degree. She finds strife, and all suffering hilarious, and as such does not hold grudges to those who might do her harm. Whether others hold grudges against her is another story.

Character History

Jahoma was born to two drunkards, who barely even stayed sober enough to realize they had a daughter. As such she rarely, if ever, had any supervision of any kind. She had no friends as a child, and often vented by tearing the legs of small reptiles and mammals. She delighted in the release, and it made her feel much better about her situation as she saw the animals suffer.

As she grew older, this grew to people. She would often set up rather vicious pranks on others, laughing at their misery. She once pranked the wrong person, however, and accidentally crossed paths with a Speaker. The Speaker, however, was kind and had pity on her. He took her on as an apprentice, and channeled her destructive energy into her work. He also attempted to show her the glory of Ionu, though he never really succeeded.

The Torch Leaf

Image

Plant Name: The Torch Tree

Location: Near, but not in sight of, Verlyna's Emerald Pond.

Season most Prominent: Summer

Usages: The torch leaf, found on the Torch Tree, is a medicinal leaf used in the treatment of burns and aids in the reduction of inflammation. It is strictly used on the out side of the body, and if ingested it turns into a burning poison that spreads quickly throughout the body.

Preparation: In order to gain use to the torch leaf's healing qualities, it must first be ground into a fine, golden-red powder. The entire leaf, excluding the stem, is used in this process. Once transformed into a powder, it is dumped into a small pan of boiling water and then left to cool for an entire day. The properties of the leaf turn the water into a waxy substance that can be applied to the inflamed/burned area directly, or soaked into medical wrappings. The minimum number of leaves used in the preparations is twenty (20).

General Description: The Torch Tree is a tree unique only to Alvadas. It is found near, but not in sight of, Verlyna's Emerald Pond. The Torch Tree got its name from the unique leaves it bares every summer. The leaf, known as the Torch Leaf, has a green body with edges lined in a shimmering golden-red that resembles the burning of a fire. On the first day of every summer, the leaves bloom out of the tree's branches - making the tree look as if it had gone up in flame. It retains this appearance until the last day of summer, when the leaves catch fire and fall to the ground in ashes.

Being unique to Alvadas, the torch tree leaf's medicinal properties can only be used in Alvadas. When prepared the correct way, the leaf has the ability to aid in burn wounds and inflammation. If taken out of the city, the leaf bursts into flames and turns to ash. Besides being a medicinal leaf, it can also serve as a dangerous poison. If ingested, the mythical properties placed on it by Ionu causes the person to feel as if all the veins in their body are on fire. It spreads quickly, and the body dies within twenty minutes of ingesting it. As of yet, there is no antidote for it.

Plant Name: The Hissing Lily

Location: Temple of Ionu

Season most Prominent: Spring

ImageImage

General Description:
The Hissing Lily is a plant with two flowers to a stalk. One produces a popular non-addictive hallucinogenic fruit. The fruit hangs below the lower flower, both of which come in rich shades of blue and purple.

Over these, however, is a single large white flower with a hissing face. It is from these larger flowers that the plant gets its name. The larger flower attempts to bite all who get close. It warns those who stand too near with its hissing. If the warning should not be heeded, the white flower can bite the offender. The bite is painful, but non life-threatening. However, it is usually best avoided for reasons connected to the fruit of its lower flower.

Usages: The fruit found underneath the petals of the Hissing Lily are a very popular hallucinogen. The fruit itself is rather bland, neither sweet nor bitter. Its popularity comes from several random effects and general feelings of euphoria. After the fruit is ingested, it takes only a few seconds for the subject to lose motor function and experience some of the following. Let it be noted that not all subjects react in the same way.

  • Uncontrollable laughter
  • Past memories, such as revisiting places from childhood memory
  • Sensations of motion, or being pulled or twisted by forces
  • Visions of membranes, films and various two-dimensional surfaces
  • Merging with or becoming objects
  • Overlapping realities, such as the perception of being in several locations at once

In addition to these effects, there is a general feeling of detachment, as if your body is not yours, but simply something you watch everything else from. The fruit is often used by priests and worshipers of Ionu in Religious rituals. Though during these times, some unlucky acolytes are required to oversee the process, and are not allowed to partake in them. This is so they can oversee the proceedings and make sure no one injures themselves.

Preparation: While the fruit, for the most part, is harmless, it is very difficult to obtain. Not only that, but those who ingest the fruit must be watched by a third party or they risk putting themselves into very dangerous situations. It is not uncommon for an unwatched person to injure themselves.

To obtain the fruit, one must brave the fangs of the Hissing Lily. The reflexes of the Hissing Lily are incredible, and it is extremely unlikely anyone could pluck the fruit fast enough to avoid being bitten. The Hissing Lily’s fangs hold no poison, per-say. But they provide a sort of antidote, negating the hallucinogen of its own fruit. Those bitten will not experience the euphoria or other common reasons why the fruit is harvested. After all, the fruit is rather tasteless and offers no nutritional value. This 'antidote' lasts for upwards of a week. The Hissing Lily’s fruit is commonly plucked by Ionu’s priests, who can use their marks to bypass the fangs with well placed illusions. It is much simpler to purchase these from the priests, than to pluck them from the plants.

Alvadas NPC/Location/Creature Creation Center

Postby Kat on June 19th, 2012, 11:47 pm

ImagePlant Name: Weedle

Location: Throughout Alvadas

Season most Prominent: Spring

General Description:
The Weedle is a small weed known only to Alvadas that grows to be approximately 10(ten) inches tall. Coming in a variety of colours it is categorized by a thick stem, around 1(one)inch thick. Its ‘bloom’ is actually a solid, spongy half circle that is about 5(five) inches wide with numerous little caves on its face. Inside each cave is the eye of the plant, a small blue berry-looking piece with a light purple iris and a solid black pupil. These eyes or berries can be as large as 3(three) centimetres to as small as a babies pinkie nail. It has no leaves to speak of and is generally plain looking.

This plant takes three weeks to bloom and usually does so mid-spring, the berries only appearing during the third week. These berries will last nearly two weeks before they shrivel and fall off leaving an empty cave until a new one is grown. It will continue this cycle until the plant itself dies. The berries themselves are really quite disgusting, very fatty and chewy without having much taste and leaving a bitter film in one’s mouth.

It is a parasitic plant that cannot grow on its own and only appears in bushes or on vines--it cannot grow on flowers. While it can be connected to nearly any plant the only way to actually plant this seed yourself is to place it in the roots of another plant. Seeds of this plant are actually in the roots themselves and are transported naturally via worms. This plant dies once it completely drains its host after which it withers away to nothing, leaving only a brown shrivelled stem.

While not particularly dangerous in its own right this plant does have a reputation for being quite creepy and quite helpful. Its eyes or berries can actually improve vision for a short period of time.

Usages: The Weedle (other than being a pest and killing off your plants) is used to improve vision for short periods of time, only lasting a maximum of 1(one) day and a minimum of 10(ten) seconds. This improvement is akin to that of a Hawks. To properly use this plant one must ingest the berry only, ingesting the stem or bloom will result in mild food-poisoning in a worst case scenario. If used outside of the body (e.g. a paste) it will cause a rash that lasts for about one week.

While the berries may improve vision there are also a few side-effects, to say the least. The side-effects are generally mild but continuous use or even first time use can result with consequences and generally speaking eating more berries results in heavier consequences. These effects can include some or all of the following:

  • Temporary (maximum of a year with a minimum of two weeks) or permanent blindness (most common case)
  • Dry heaving
  • Loss of sense of taste for a season
  • Wandering eye
  • Nausea

Preparation: In order gain access to the improved vision one need only pick the berries, the threat level of this harvesting this plant depends on what plant they have attached themselves to. The amount of berries needed to improve vision works in levels of 5(five). For every five berries picked your vision improves for about 3(three) minutes and so on and so forth. The hardest part about picking this plant is remembering not to actually pluck it and pulling out the eye or berry.

If cut from the stem the berry loses all vision improving properties and dies within several minutes after being detached from the host. The spongy bloom causes a bit of a problem and pulling a ripe berry is as difficult as actually pulling someones eye from their socket. Usually the harvesting is done by having one person hold the bloom and tug the berry out as far as they can and another snipping the connection. Of course, if squeezed or even held too tightly one can easily crush all the berries.

After picking the berries they will work for, give or take, three days. Although they work best if ingested immediately and the longer the delay the more berries you must ingest to gain even a minute. For example, eating five berries on the third day will give you a maximum of 30(thirty) seconds of improved vision.

NPC: Lound Vortos
Known as Lost Lound

Picture:
Image

Name: Lound Vortos
Race: Human
Date of Birth: 33rd of Summer 441AV
Place of Birth: Alvadas
Title: /
Skills:
[table2]Beekeeping | 30
Begging | 10
Gardening | 10
Storytelling | 10
Observation | 5[/table2]
Gnosis: Hapchance (represents Alvadas disappearing part by part, two usages left, required DS permission to spend one in thread)
Description of NPC: Lound Vortos is 'that old guy' you would see around in Alvadas. He is a beekeeper, but due to his tendency to forget things and Alvadas' tricky nature it happens that his bees get lost around the city quiet often. If a confused furious bee attacks you you may safely assume that it's his and that he pissed it off. He is actually already too old for any proper job, but instead he walks around in search for his lost bees. More often than not, he's too slow for the city. Before he would arrive to desired location it would be moved to another end of the city. It is believed that Ionu likes to play with old man, never allowing him to be lucky and find place in few seconds. Some would say it's cruel, but Lound, resident of Alvadas since his birth, has accepted his fate long ago. That is why people in Alvadas very often see image of, so called, Lost Lound, walking down the street swearing or yelling at some kids. Lost Lound is, however, everywhere. He is eyes and ears of the city, since he spends whole day wandering around. He's popular information bloker, since he isn't intelligent enough to ask much for his information. He'll tell you what he knows about a person for few Mizas, or if you're lucky to find him when he's in bad mood and unable to think, even for free. Residents of Alvadas usually know about him and understand jokes about him, while foreigners may end up surprised. Lost Lound also likes to babble when he is in good mood and, if you don't have some time to spend or information to lure out, better stay away from chit-chats with him. Even greetings. Seriously.

Creature: Mintonons

Picture: 1 | 2 | 3
Type of Creature: I don't know.*blush*
Frequency: Common
Major Features:
Creatures specialized in disguise which morph into usual objects and pull pranks on people.
Abilities:
Mintononos can morph, taking numerous shapes (which are similar to Pycon). However, in those shapes they cannot move. They're not capable to morph into gadgeteered object, they use their morphing ability only for hiding. Their morphing is also possible to be only an illusion instead of real morphing. Those creatures were never caught, so people aren't sure of things like that. Most people would not know about their existence, even though they're common, because they're master in disguise.
Most Common In: Alvadas?
Summary/Abstract:
Mintononos (singular: Mintonono) are fairly common specie in Alvadas and are rarely seen outside it (some travelers claim that they saw them in wilderness close to the city). Specie is known for it's ability to shape forms, but only wooden and metal ones. They aren't more intelligent than normal animal, maybe even less, since their intelligence only activates for tricks, pranks and disguise.
Mintononos feed like normal omnivorous animal and do that secretly. Nobody knows where they find food or how do they hide from curious eyes. It is believed that creatures are under Ionu's protection.
Their only purpose in life is to prank people. They will set a trap in no time and hide, becoming simple ornament on someone's door or on coffee table and similar. They are common both outdoors and indoors.
If you wish to kill Mintonono (which is highly not recommended, since it is believed they're under Ionu's protection) you only need to break it while in morphed form. You may recognize it if it takes shape on something highly familiar to you, like your door, but remember that Alvadas is tricky city and character most likely wouldn't notice or care about non-significant changes in ornaments.
History:
It is believed that this creatures are rather young specie, maybe mostly 200 year old. There are few myths on how they became: much as Pycons, due to alchemy experiment, as animatons or that they're creation of Ionu him/herself. It is known that first generation mastered pranks, leading city to disaster and citizens into despair. With Ionu's help, creatures calmed and now just pull occasional prank to kill boredom. Every generation is worse than their ancestor and it is believed that magic inside them will soon disappear.
Appearance:
They change form and can be seen as any obstacle made of wood or metal. Their true form is animalistic, unknown. It is probably similar to mouse, just with slightly bigger and stronger limbs, so they could carry heavier objects (up to 3lbs), but you will never see this form until magic in Mintononos becomes weak enough.

Name: Gutterton's Finest
Specific Location: Haha, It's Alvadas (Most Common on Street Corners)
Accessibility: Isn't Hard To Find
Relevance to Alvadas: A quaint restaurant you can go to enjoy a nice meal anytime of day. Open 24/7 with interchanging waiters/waitresses that always keep an extremely weird smile on their face. With the owner living upstairs, the man has created several weird beings, being skilled in Animation. To name a few off are the coat racks that go around to customers, taking their coats before their meal, then returning them right before they get up. Another would be the talking lights that loom over each table. The lights can be silenced if wished by the customer; if a loner walks in the lights can keep them company while they have no one to talk to. With two Gnosis marks from Ionu, the owner projects amazing illusions into the picture frames to make it seem flabbergasting including rocking sea waves, burning fire, real waterfalls, a running horse, and it's said there's even a booth where the owner has made the elderly woman inside it talk. When you enter the store you are greeted with fancy doors and drapes. There is a mahogany desk where a waiter or waitress greets you. Then another one of Brandin Gutterton's creations come out and seat you to an open table where a waiter or waitress will be with you shortly. This is a peaceful place to come for fun and laughs and relaxation. Violence is not tolerated at all in Gutterton's Finest whatsoever. The troublemaker(s) will be asked to take it outside. Name: Jool's Py-Ken dojo

Specific Location: In Alvadas somewhere, usually in a place safe from being trampled
Accessibility: Only Pygon's are small enough to enter
Relevance to Alvadas: A Place where Pycon's can learn how to defend themselves
NPCs Present: The Dojo's only instructor is Jool
Picture: Image
Name: Jool
Race: Pygon
Date of Birth: 3rd of Winter 491 av (21 years old)
Place of Birth: Sunberth
Title: Sensei of Py-ken
Skills:
Skill EXP Proficiency
Py-ken 65 Expert
Weapon Py-Whip 55 Expert
Weapon Py-Sting 55 Expert
Weapon Py-Pole 55 Expert
Acrobatics 37 Competent
Escape Artist 40 Competent

Gnosis: 1 mark of Evantia
Description of NPC: Despite appearing female Jool is a male Pygon. His gender is obvious to other Pygons but continues to baffle the other races. His form is of an elegant looking porcelain doll with beautifully sculpted hair and false ball joints to keep up his facade. His body is a light grey and his eyes are the colour of Terra Cotta pots.
He doesn't mind when humans mistake him for a female in fact he gains great enjoyment startling them with his deep commanding voice. He is only insulted if a fellow Pycon thinks he's a female as his gender should be obvious to them. Despite his love of pranking humans he's a fairly serious Pycon and spends most of his days training the Pygon martial arts in his dojo currently located in Alavadas.
He was trained in Pygon specific martial arts ever since he had first grown legs. He was raised for a couple of years in his Pyve in Sunberth but left for Syliras. Due to his doll like appearance he easily found work as a body guard for upper class women and girls. He soon began to hate his job as the women he worked for only thought of him as an beautiful object and didn't value him for his fighting prowess. He Left Syliras and eventually ended up in Alvadas where he used his money working as a body guard to create a Dogo to teach Pygons how to defend themselves.
Dangers: Having Jool work you into a broken and beaten little puddle of clay.

Type of Creature: Omnivorous, passive hunters, insects.

Frequency: Common in the wilds that surround Alvadas.

Major Features: Travel in large swarms and work as a collective, uses a form of illusionism, and creates a paralytic toxin.

Abilities: Magic using insects that have developed the ability to create the illusion of thick fog. These swarms hunt in large clouds and follow prey around trapping them in a seemingly endless thick fog. Generally these creatures disorient animal and human sight and wait until they either fall or perish from the toxins they can produce.

Most Common In: Shaded, forested, areas of Kalea.

Summary/Abstract: We were lost in the forest for several long hours. A thick fog in the air along with a strange scent. We had walked these forests for several years and never had encountered this thick of a fog for so many hours. The smell it irritated my nose after a few hours. It burned my eyes after several hours. Trent, my dog had whimpered and convulsed near the top of the last hour. I stayed to see if I could do something to help him, but it’s body grew stiff. I could still feel it’s heart thumping but it didn’t take in any breath. The thump reached a crescendo before it grew still and I knew then my dog had passed.

I finally decided to light a fire in the fog and noticed the fog had parted as if the heat created a barrier from the fog. The fog began to recede away from my dog’s corpse and as clarity greeted my eyes it revealed a swarm of winged insects. It had barely been a half hour, the fog had rolled back over my sweet pup’s body. The insects, invisible to my eyesight continued to eat and I watched in mild intrigue and disgust as the dog’s body was slowly dissolved to just bone in the fog. My breathing had instantly grown better, whatever that smell was it didn’t seem to linger near the flames. I used a torch to find my way back to the trail and out of that devilish trap. What fascinating insects.

History: These insects as they are today were a result of the most recent Djed storm. Most likely the flying insects only were able to create an air born paralytic to kill small mammals such as mice and rats. They would lay in wait, sensing the heat signatures of their prey. They’d gas them, it only took a good whiff of their poisonous cloud to be effective, and wait for the animal to die before feasting on them. Their toxins are created due to their diet of a certain plant of which is also poisonous to other creatures.

The ability to create the fog came as some of the insects began to behave as one unit after the Djed storm. Swarming, it became a natural ability to trick the senses into believing there is an actual thick fog. Their heat seeking abilities to spot mammals became heightened but they are essentially blind. This way to hunt food was beneficial to them due to being able to blanket larger areas in toxins as well as disorient animals to plunge to their deaths. Larger animals meant more food than what they could normally get singularly.

Appearance: Beetle like, they grow to about the size quarter of a miza. Domed shells protect their wings while not in flight. Large mandibles at their front help tear meat and cut plant matter. They come in colors of all sorts but the most common colors in males are yellow, orange, and reds. Females generally come in darker colors such as brown, green, grey.
