Dare To Be Different
I'm Plotting Halloween Stuff And Talking Makeup. No Dudes Allowed.

I love Halloween. I'm all about it. This year we haven't decorated or carved punkins because of other things going on as I've already posted about. But that doesn't mean we still aren't doing things. I'm leading my pagan circle this year in Ancestor Thankfulness (which is really what Samhain aka Halloween is about) and doing past life regressions. I'm also focused on my costume because we're dressing up this year. I'm going eclectic witch, which is fun when your going to go gather with a ton of male witches (most of my circle are dudes) and and do witchy things. But I'm putting an elemental theme on it this year. I'm infusing my costuming with fire. That includes my makeup. So I'm going total reds and fire colors with a tad bit of burgundy. I've already plotted out and collaged my look. Here's the eyes. What are you guys going as?

Image

I'm using the top left look with the highlights of the top right look and the eyeliner of the lower middle. Fire baby. Total fire. Did I mention my hair is deep burgundy atm? It looks black but when I'm roaming around in the sun its to quote a co-worker "OMG JEN" about the red of the lower center shadow maybe a tad bit more burgundy. It was purple for a while. :) I think I lost my mind when I hit my last birthday because suddenly I started plucking my eyebrows, carefully applying makeup daily in eclectic ways, and re-polishing my nails which are naturally very long in all sorts of crazy polish daily. Currently I'm wearing Sally Hansen's Lustre Shine in Azure. I picked up the whole collection of all eight duochrome colorshifts this weekend. Scarab which is a green/blue/gold is probably my favorite. But currently I'm wearing Azure. Here's a swatch of it below. Swatches, for you uneducated in polish speak folks, are when chicks paint their nails, grab the bottle, and photograph it. Everyone knows polish looks different out of the bottle on nails than it does in the bottle. So to really know the true color, you have to swatch it. Here's the Azure swatch, which doesn't do it justice because duochromes don't always photograph well. But in real life its gorgeous.

Image

The picture doesn't do this polish credit. It's a deep blueberry grape sparkle with a duochrome with dark lavender so as you turn it in the sun or even in the weirdest light it glows from purple to blue. Right now sitting in the darkish living room it looks deep grape. I always start out with a dark color that's a good quality nail polish and then put something over it in a day or two when I'm tired of the color. In this case I'll probably throw a foil polish over it like SH's Hidden Treasure or a glittery polish like SH's Snow Globe. I bet you guys didn't know I'm a closet polish addict. Fact. I totally am. I don't have my nail's done. I do them myself. And they are one way I cling to my girliness in an industry dominated by men. And I'll tell you one thing.. the guys always notice when I change my color or come to work with one hand a different coat than the other - yesterday I was wearing Piece of Papaya by Hard Candy on one hand but on the other I had the same polish with an overlay of a Masquerade which is a top coat of black glitter and papaya pink colored glittery circles.

Here's some idea of Piece of Papaya and Masquarade:

Now, piece of advice. If you get good quality polishes, don't wear topcoats by themselves like the girl in the above picture did. They look like absolute dog doo doo. Throw a base coat of something on under it. If you can't be even remotely creative, throw on a good solid matte black. Then it looks gorgeous like the makers designed it to look, and not so... much like you've been in a kindergarten class and have stick glue and glitter slopped on your nails.

And now, when I get tired of the Azure by itself, I'll pick some awesome topcoat shiny out of my polish stash and throw it over the top. Polish is anything but boring. How can it be with all the awesome names folks call them. Like this one, slanted to go over my gorgeous Azure. Claw of Cthulhu. How badass is that?

Image

It has to suck to be a dude. You guys miss out on soooo much cool stuff.

Be careful working with reds or it might look like you got punched in the eye! Using purples and blacks mixed together helps a lot. Eyeliner is so much fun to play with when doing this too. I bet a black lipstick would look bea-ut-i-fulllll.

I'd love to see the finished product.

And I also found this Phoenix makeup tutorial. Relevant.
She's crazy, though. I guess there's something wrong inside.
She's crazy, though. I guess she took control.

Thanks for the advice and video. I have a very native skintone so red pops on me and doesn't look like battered women syndrome. It helps to have a deep bronze green tinge to one's skin instead of that pasty blue most of you white folks have. I'll take pics I'm sure, plus there will be at least one if not two Mizahar folks unrelated to me in attendance to attest to the efforts. But I'll take pictures, I'm sure. Facebook always needs canon fodder. :)

Graders Please Note :
As Ball is getting closer and closer to maxing out Pyken as a skill, I would like to request that in places where Ball is not doing enough to constitute Pyken XP if Pyken technique lores could be issued instead.

Examples of proper XP level for Pyken would be: Ball developing or refining his technique by adding new thing against an actual moving target, not a dummy.

The use of basic skills alone are not enough to accomplish XP at Ball's current level of Pyken.

Thank you.

I will be handling all Ball related posts on Mondays @ 1800 my time *

My Halloween will consist of making the perfect Zombie paint for oldest daughter (she is obsessed..every year she goes all zombie...I have perfected the art of painting dead bruised flesh >.>), fairy princess make up for the second oldest (that is my fave!), fixing camouflage face paint for my 8 year old boy going as a Navy Seal, and then of course convincing the 4 year old that no, he does not need to munch on candy whilst we walk door to door. I love this time of year, I used to dress up and go all out for Halloween before my kiddos were born, now its all about them and that makes me smile :D

And Goss, I am super jealous of the fact that you can get away with the super cute red shadow. I am one of those pasty pale white people, red hair too boot...thankfully no freckles but I am as irish as they come and noooo red shades for me. I look frightening even in red lipstick. It just doesn't go well with my coloring.

I see no reason why guys cannot wear/enjoy make-up. For any of them who are missing out on the fun, that's an easy problem to fix ;)

ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!
Seriously... people. Can't you read Mizahar's backstory?

This site is not DISNEY.COM. You cannot have a bimbo skill-less PC, a child PC, a down-trodden whatever sort PC that was RAISED BY WILD ANIMALS. Wild Animals aren't even going to save you. This is not Jungle Book. This is not Julie Of The Wolves. This is not a world where a wild animal is going to be your best buddy or your pet. It's just not going to happen. Wild animals eat you. They don't care if a Goddess or God represents them. Crows are going to pluck out your eyeballs and snack on them like delicious bloody cherries. Please understand this. And please stop asking me, the help desk, and chat why you can't be raised by glassbeaks and turn out just fine.

In case you've forgotten the Theme here it is:

Mizahar was the home of a set of once-thriving twin empires, Suvan and Alahea. The constant struggle for dominance, trade and military might took its toll on both empires. War broke out, washed over the land, and left one Empire the victor (Suvan) and one the defeated (Alahea). But victory was short lived and taken with less than the humility it deserved, for Suvan forgot the most important lessons of all. Nothing is as it seems on the surface and love knows no boundaries. On what should have been the pinnacle day of Suvans victory over Alahea - a celebration to rival all celebrations that had been or ever were - instead turned into the single most destructive event in Mizahar's history; The Valterrian. The Valterrian lead to a divine war that reforged the world, killed most of its population, and forced the survivors underground to attempt to live through the ice age that followed the enormous volcanism and floods that swept the land.

To say that Mizahar is post-apocalyptic would be technically true, but spiritually inaccurate. The setting is key to the stories Mizaharians tell. The world has passed beyond the initial days of death, passed beyond the ice and storms of the premature and prolonged winter, and has finally passed beyond the time of rebirth where the denizens emerged from their hiding to repopulate the fresh new feral world. Then, it was the struggle to survive. Now, however, the story is about rebuilding, redesigning, and finding a way to interact with unknown and sometimes frighteningly different races that were born in the flames of destruction. Humans still dominate the landscape, making up more than 200,000 of the total 250,000 of the population remaining after the Valterrian and its consequences. Gone is the old world of politics and power struggles. Gone too are the vast resources of wealth and magical technology, and the luxury of indulging long-term desires to 'know' and having time to 'find out' answers. The new world is dangerous. Populations are still carving out niches and staking out their territories. Food crops are finally being planted and harvested with regularity, allowing cities to be built or rebuilt because food is less of a problem than it once was.

Life has been given a second chance. Mizahar is about that second chance.

What...Ravens aren't going to come bring me meat and Deer won't bring me buckets of water while I live secluded away from everyone else so that I can't possibly hope to find a RP partner on the side of an active volcano?

This PC has the Blight gnosis. As such, you as a player need to be aware of what that consists of. Wrenmae has an invisible aura that amplifies sickness and disease. Wounds may become infected, small sneezes may become coughing, and a slight fever may become more serious. A nuit's body will also break down faster in the presence of the Blight. These effects may not be immediate, but within the few days following your encounter, the symptoms will manifest. Some sooner than others. I cannot control your character, so creativity will be left up to you. Best wishes and stay healthy!

Special shoutout to Fallon for my new CS
