Some really really good points here. I've been having some of these same thoughts and trying to work on my hesitation to hit up the more established players. In my case it's not so much "These people will eat me alive," and more "What possible reason could all these supercool people ever have to want anything to do with me."

Very well put, y'all. I'll be taking this to heart.

I just want to say that this scrap pointed out some of my frustrations brilliantly.

Thanks for this Jen, well said.

[Gossamer's Scrapbook] The Ethereal Canyon

Reading your post on how new players can easily be intimidated by the veterans here, I definitely can understand how flustering it is to find thread partners too; even after a couple of hiatus' that have come around. Even after I poke around the forum looking at the players I see new ones come and go, and there has even been an occasion or two where a new player has admitted that they were intimidated because of how much development was put into the character.

Not meaning to jump in on the topic out of random, just really felt like sharing in on this as well. The only reason why I go into thorough detail into making these plots is to give players a chance to jump in, be a part of something fun and see where it takes them along the way! Sure I enjoy seeing what happens to my character, maybe even enjoy torturing him a little sometimes, but mostly I want to see others try to get involved and see them grow as well. Its more than just fun to see other characters grow, because it creates something special between that character and that writer. Which is why I try my best to create these situations for my character, to provide opportunities for others to join in and make something of an adventure; and in the process see that character reach new heights. :)

I love threading with new PCs, even if it's just to flesh out their character. I don't care if I get XP or lores. (although I do love my lores) I enjoy helping flesh out new PCs. Getting help from the only Symenestra in WR should be a pretty epic start to help flesh a character.

I'm On The Mend
And cooking again, naturally, and dude food at that.

When you're sick you don't eat anything at all. And this becomes a problem when you have lots of chickens that think its spring. I finally feel human again today had haven't spent the morning throwing up or laying on the couch out of my gord and at work bitching out all the swift drivers and puking between trailers. It's been a really fun week. I hate being sick. So anyhow, I decided to use up some of the eggs we had stockpiled from the last week or so, plus a huge chunk of ham we had leftover and am making a huge breakfast casserole. It's no out of the oven yet (its still early on the west coast) so I snapped a pic of it cooking to show you and thought I'd share the recipe.

Now, mind you, this is the below recipe DOUBLED. Why? Cause most hash browns store bought (if you use homemade hash browns it doesn't work so well because of the water content in fresh spuds) come in 30 oz. packages and who wants to have a half package laying around. Besides, if you are going to make Casserole, MAKE A DAMN CASSEROLE and feed an army for a few days.. isn't that the point?

1 (12 oz. package) Hash Brown Potatoes
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup diced ham
4 oz. cheddar cheese, shredded
4 oz. Swiss or Jack cheese, shredded
6 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/4 tsp. seasoned salt
1 (6 oz.) can diced roasted green chillies
In greased pan/casserole dish, spread hash brown potatoes. Brush with melted butter. -Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes. Layer ham, cheeses and chillies on "crust". Combine eggs, milk and salt and place on top of ham/cheese mixture.
Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes.
Use salsa to taste. Serves 6 to 8.

Now... this is total non-diet dude food. The guys in your life will eat this up. Make the ham pieces fairly chunky and they will have it gone in like two or three minutes. I always add extra herbs and if I'm making it for girls, I cut the ham a lot smaller and mix a huge variety of cheeses in. The one pictured above just has three types of cheddars.. white, sharp, and a weird one that I cant spell or pronounce. But it's still delicious. And sometimes the guys just appreciate having it MEAT & CHEESE. The hash browns on the bottom get nice and crispy and its a lovely thing altogether.

And... I still have 50+ eggs to use... or sell. Anyone need eggs? Otherwise, if I am not working later today I'll probably make pound cake, which is the best way I know to use up eggs fast.

I wouldn't mind those Eggs Goss but I don't think they'd survive the plane trip nor would they last the sea voyage

Secret Pleasures & Unholy Willpower
Yes, I have them both. Well, maybe not so secret now.

I'm addicted to Islands Magazine. It's one of those magazines that advertise all sorts of trips and the writers from the magazine go there and explore. If you open it up, you thumb through pages and pages of exotic locations you can get too sometimes only by tall old fashioned sailing ship or long hikes in tropical jungles on islands that no one knows the name of. If there's a cave where you can go swimming among the columnary basalt pillars that date back to the jurrasic period, then this magazine features it.

It just showed up at my door one day and has been coming for years since. I think I've been getting it for near on ten years now and I think of it as a little fantasy escapism every month when it shows up. This months features? Top cruises from Grenada to Greenland... and I've already decided to go to Castaway Island in Fiji, visit the Conrad Maldives to sleep and eat underwater like a Konti, and then get pampered in Viceroy Bali.

My husband and I have been saving for a trip to Bali on our ten year anniversary. It should be a trip of a lifetime. Now I want to go to Taveuni as well.. cave swimming in Fiji's Garden Island anyone? I found this one online. But you know, the pics in Islands are a whole lot better. Lets compare and contrast.

But no. I'm being good. I'm reading HD Tickets and answering PMs. I am not going to read this magazine cover to cover and say screw my Miz duties. But I wanna... hence thats why I'm scrapping about it instead of totally shirking my duties.

Oooh, pretty!

Both of the pictures look pretty cool... but the Island Magazine one looks nicer, in my opinion. The top has pathways, and the lighting looks almost... artificial.

I went swimming in these rock pools over the summer, though they weren't that deep... there was sort of a path between the cliffs that connected to the beach, and were flooded half the time. Actually, at high tide, the beach was completely flooded... Probably one of the coolest places to swim, though...

This sounds similar, but a LOT better. Even if it means shirking on Miz, if the chance comes one day (you mentioned you were saving up, so....) do it!

Heads Up

I probably won't be around much this weekend. Maybe tomorrow, but that all depends on how tonight goes. We're having heavy snow down south of me and we have thirty seven undelivered loads sitting in the yard at work. So naturally they are calling in all the forces to go out and tackle the bad weather with big trucks. That means a night of traffic jams, chaining up 18 wheelers, trying not to get hit doing so, and generally freezing my ass off to either get the load delivered or spend hours trying and failing.

Yea! Isn't winter almost over? So yea.. posting will be sporadic at best... today because I'm out driving for most of it. Tomorrow because I anticipate sleeping off today all day tomorrow.

And Abs.. I bet that was very very fun. I just love flooded beaches and secluded inlets.
