[Gossamer's Scrapbook] The Ethereal Canyon I

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

The player scrapbooks forum is literally a place for writers to warm-up, brainstorm, keep little scraps of notes, or just post things to encourage themselves and each other. Each player can feel free to create their own thread - one per account - and use them accordingly.

A quiet aside, but perhaps it should be noted that the very best threads I've had in Mizahar as both player and a mod are those in which the unexpected happened. We can be so focused on the guarantee of our goals that we fail to fully enjoy obtaining them.

Caelum is on a road to redemption. I'd be massively disappointed if he got there tomorrow. Hell, I'd be upset if he gained fulfillment or sustainable love or ascending self actualization any time soon.

The point in giving your character goals isn't achieving them. The purpose from the beginning was nothing more or less than telling their story.

Graders Please Note :
As Ball is getting closer and closer to maxing out Pyken as a skill, I would like to request that in places where Ball is not doing enough to constitute Pyken XP if Pyken technique lores could be issued instead.

Examples of proper XP level for Pyken would be: Ball developing or refining his technique by adding new thing against an actual moving target, not a dummy.

The use of basic skills alone are not enough to accomplish XP at Ball's current level of Pyken.

Thank you.

The Help Desk and Other Things.

Lets just start with other things. If you are SO STUPID that you have to pick a well known actor as your avatar then find out he's taken.... you have it coming. Then if you ask around in chat if another well known actor is also taken, I have come to the conclusion your just flat out lazy as well as dumb. Go find avatars from other folks that aren't famous and use them. There are whole websites out there by individual people trying to make a name for themselves in modeling or fashion or photography and most of them will let you use their images if you ask nicely.

Stop being stupid. Stop being lazy. Stop throwing baby fits when your first choice is already in use. And if I ask you to change your goddamn avatar because someone else is using it.... PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO SO.... and be smarter about picking someone next time. If you don't, then don't bother asking me for another thing ever. Cause you know... my memory is long and hell hath no fury like a site admin that has to keep repeating herself like a scratched broken record.

Chat. I hold you responsible for this as well. If someone asks if X Actor of an A or B list caliber is taken, just say yes. They always are.

Now... onto the Help Desk. I can't even stand to look at it any more. The only cute posts are by Traverse who always cheers me up by her persistence when she knows I've seen something and have immediately forgot to act on it. Her latest little gem was getting the TALOBA and ZINRAH medals in for the Seasonal Challenges. The thread title?

[Gossamer] HEY GOSS LOOK AT ME!

Cute. I laughed. And she actually had to nudge it a couple of times to catch me looking at it when 'I wasn't on my phone and at home where I could dig around in the shell and use the FTP to get her medals loaded up so they could be installed. Sorry about that wait, Alex.

Then of course, I dug into a few tickets. I had several Konti that got gifts awarded right off the bat. My favorite was Happy Birthday. That was a cool gift and very cleverly designed.

Then I had to read about the jerkface newbie that demanded a Vexation Gnosis based on the fact he wanted to hurt corrupt politicans in Syliras (dude, there's only good knights there that are lead by the Founding Family who isn't corrupt but lets everyone live with them for their mutual benefit). Yea.. he liked to torture small animals and cut them up while they were still alive. THis wasn't even a story mind you, it was a list of why he was so awesome he deserved a gnosis mark. GAG. I had to come write about it here instead of actually reading Edith and Prak's gnosis stories which they have bumped but I haven't had time to read yet. Blame it on the new guy... he's gross.

Oh... and the people that need to retire after two posts. And the spammers who are selling things in closed threads like Chinese knock off watches.

And then all the frigging NPC requests. People... do you really need like fifteen NPCS? You do? Okay... I honestly don't mind them so much when you do them right the first time and understand that you have to feed them and clothe them and take care of them unless they are in flashbacks then who the fuck cares anyhow right?

The only thing I haven't seen recently in the HD is teenage drama. It's been on the site though. It always ruins my fun. I truthfully can tell you I hate teenagers. I never was one. I hit twelve and grew up immediately in my college classes and nerddome. I left for college in another state at 16 and was done by twenty and out in the work force. Thank god too. I don't know how you parents stand it and how you teens can live with each other. It's not so much that teens are bad people. For the most part they are good. But man the whole world DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND THEM. ITS NOT ABOUT THEM. But it is.. you know... when they are teens.

I really want to post. If you haven't heard from me for a while please feel free to nudge me or my PC. My subscribe list is all messed up and six pages long. I need to take an afternoon and go through it but I haven't found the time between pms, HD Tickets, etc.

Oh.. and that leaves me one more negative rant in this scrap full of negativity. World Development Forum. If you don't follow proper procedure in there, then honestly don't expect much from me in terms of permission or help. And honestly if you start your posts out with something negative like... "Oh this lore article leaves a lot to be desired or sucks..." Remember I probably wrote it. And honestly I could care less what you think really. Most of the lore that is 'lacking' is lacking because its just an overview or a placeholder has been put there to be filled in later. If its just a list of things, don't expect much. And if I don't see any serious attempts to show me what you can do rather than you just telling me what you are GOING to do... then I'm not going to give you the time of day. Why? Because if I want something flushed out its often easier to do it myself and do it the way I consider the right way for the site then put up with someone's negativity and lore bashing and then sad attempts to make it better.

I'd honestly like to see half the people that brag they could do it better actually do it better. I subscribe to the put up or shut up philosophy. And you know what? I rarely see anyone put up. And well, you know what usually happens to get them to shut up. We suggest they move elsewhere.

I honestly wish this scrap was more positive, but right now I can't be. I'm feeling overwhelmed and there is too much to do with just a single person roaming around trying to work down the list that everyone else is adding too daily.

*Pats Gossboss* I felt overwhelmed myself when I ran Syliras solo (but with the awesome help of Graders, Serendipity, Nightmare, and others, we pulled through). That was just one Domain, egads, I can't imagine how heavy your tasks must be as a Founder. I really respect your persistence.

P.S: Do direct me to this... Vexation McJerkface player, I'll have... to enlighten him, with Kindness Blade and Compassionate arrows. ^.^

I really admire your patience and hard work. I don't think I can even comprehend how much you do for this site. It is the greatest roleplaying site I've found, and you are a huge part of making it what it is, and continuing to help it grow. There are over ten thousand registered users, and the fact that you can manage to give individual players attention amazes me. Just... Wow.

Update

Thank you for the kind words.

I just wanted to let everyone know that if you tried to contact me today I was gone the entire day running sets up and down the freeway. When I'm driving I don't answer PMs, Texts, and certainly not AIMs. I'm not mad at anyone, I was just extremely busy picking up the mess nightshift left last night. And it was a huge mess at my job. So lovely... so absolutely lovely. I went into work at 330am... and got off about 330ish. By the time I got home, showered, and relaxed, most of the evening is gone.

Posts will be forthcoming later. I'm going to try to get a few things done tonight though - namely the HD caught up. If someone hasn't had their HD Ticket answered, please bump it.. its lost in pages and pages of spam.

Thanks!

Goss

Random Adventure: The Search For A Horse Butt Scratcher
I know you guys like reading this stuff...

So... as most of you know... I have horses. I have really big horses. They get really shaggy like Shetland ponies. One of them is 22,00 lbs and 18.2 hh. She's a belgian draft. She gets so itchy this time of year that she scratches on trees, fences, cars, people, anyone until her hair is shed out. It takes a lot of time... she has a lot of hair. I've always wanted to get my horse a shedding aid, but they are hard to come by.

I've seen these in pastures but I've never been able to find one. Its a big rough bristly thing that looks like a bottle cleaner. I was talking to a friend who was over visiting and we were laughing and pulling hair off one of the big horses and she's like... "Wow, you need something for them to scratch on... this hair is taking forever to shed." I told her about seeing the scratching posts for horses, and she said she'd think about it. A few minutes later after she'd left (her and her husband stayed three hours visiting... between horses, politics, bees, etc.. we had a great time) and said she'd mentioned it to her husband and he knew exactly what they were. STREET SWEEPER BRUSHES repurposed.

I felt so dumb! I've wanted one for years but didn't know how to search for what I was looking for. All the cow catalogs didn't have them and none of the horse supply websites did either. So once I knew what it was, I posted up on FB to see if anyone know anyone at the Dept Of Trans or a City Worker, and someone did... posted an add up on criags list, and today I was off on a six hour round trip to retrieve my new horse buttscratcher. I'm so excited. Now I just have to wait a few days for the ground to dry out enough to cement in a post to slide it over. Here's what I'm talking about... only the one in this picture isn't mine and isn't very big. I got a HUGE one. The guy that was selling them had a 7 foot long HUGE one that was perfect for my drafty.

So here's the final product, and below it are pics of the trip. I put roughly 450 miles on my pickup today and laughed the whole way with a great gal pal who rode shotgun to navigate. :)
