The Nine

Winter 19th 513

The representative for the Drykas, Avikal is outraged at the negative attitude that the Knights and people of the city are showing to his people and wants to put a stop to it. To do that he needs a voice from the people. The proud Drykas has put up a petition around the city looking for others to sign and state their idea of how this is an injustice rather than an act of caution. He is hoping that the people will rise up and speak their minds against this, and help the city to see the error of their ways.

OOCThis is how this works, if you are interested in speaking on the matter that started on the 15th of winter you post here stating if you think the drykas are being treated unfairly or if you believe the Knights have just cause. Yay vs Nay which ever side gets more votes wins the argument. This doesn't mean that the Knights will change their minds, but who knows, they might and it might also mean something for your PC. :D

The Nine (Drykas)

The blond-haired instructor tried her best to keep her rage from bursting. Her devotion to Priskil and the comforting light from her palm kept her in check. The Drykas, foul slavers and kidnappers who trotted into Syliras, wrenching women and children away from their families. These were the worst kind of people, what they did was evil, no doubt about it. Nothing justified the act of snatching away a person's freedom, people like these were the ones who made this petched-up world even more petched-up. Syliras accepted them with open arms and what did they get in return? Raids and pillages. With a determined face, Rachel signed the petition with the words.

"Foul bandits and slavers, return each and every single one of those poor souls your people took, then you can start demanding better treatment. By Priskil, may Her light burn all of your wicked hearts."

The Nine (Drykas)

This subject was personal for young Ryia for a few reasons. A woman that she had known, a friend of the family had gone missing and it was the idea of many that she had been taken by Drykas raiders. Her eldest sister, and parton Helena Brock had been in a battle with them and had told her a lot about them, none of it on a good note. It was expected that the Order would take action, and after hearing what many knights were saying, the Drykas were getting off easy.

The whole thing was unfortunate, but so far nothing horrible had happened to the Drykas in the city, and from where she stood, the councilmen was drawing more negative attention to an already sore subject. Ryia waited while another wrote their thoughts down and stepped forward to write her own. It is the job of the Knighthood to keep order and peace in the city. That is what we/they are doing. Please be patient while this is sorted out.

The Nine (Drykas)

Postby Ethan Ironhorse on December 15th, 2013, 5:57 pm

Ethan reviewed the petition over again and again. His grandfather had been Drykas, a blacksmith for them, Ethan remembered the long talks about his grandfathers people and traditions. He had never known why he had left the plains, Ethan had always assumed that it had been his grandmother that had convinced him. Yet, Ethan had never worked up the courage to ask his grandfather about it, for there always seemed a little too much pain when speaking about it. Ethan knew that had he been alive, he would have cursed the bigotry and the peoples little understanding of the Drykas.

Yet Ethan thought about the raids… How many people had died and been captured? How many women and men had Syliras lost to raiding parties? Yet was it right to blame the few that traded and worked in Syliras on the traditions of their people? Additionally, the morality rate of the Drykas on the plains was such that raiding, as crazy as it seemed, was the only way for them to continue as a people. The pain they caused us, was the same pain they caused themselves, yet they did it to continue to survive. Ethan picked up a quill and thought over and over about what to write.

Life and Family, from one comes the thread that forever interweaves the other. The Drykas are proud of that connection, their love of family is interwoven throughout their lives just as their connection to the grasslands. Yet that thread of life can be cut and death can break a family just as much as hate. The Drykas seek to survive, and in their struggle to do so have turned to raiding to find and expand their families. Their struggle has affected Sylirians, for so many the destruction and removal of family and friends has caused hate. They believe that those taken are treated poorly or sold to others to forever be bound in chains. The Drykas do not believe this, those taken are brought into a family, bound not in chains but by the struggle of life. The Drykas care for those taken like family, because they become family.

It is from this misunderstanding that hate has found root in Syliras. From hate, the knighthood has responded by turning their eyes on the Windmark that seek to expand their familes through proper means. We of Syliras should not fear the Windmark amongst us, they seek to improve their people and families, those are the concepts that Syliras was founded on, and we should help those doing so. The Knighthood has the right to protect us from raiding, but if we punish those that are among us seeking other ways to survive we leave only raiding as their choice and compound the problem. We have to work with the Windmark, understanding their traditions and needs to come up with a compromise to stop the raiding.

This is my plea, before we destroy our connections to these proud and strong people, we should seek understanding of the problem and find the path of peace for both of us.

The Nine (Drykas)

Postby Shane Wallsly on December 30th, 2013, 9:11 pm

Shane had never before been important enough to engage in any kind of political decision on any level but when an important looking person was preaching about a petition in the marketplace Shane decided to stop and listen to him. He had heard about the Drykas raids and because of it the patrols had been increased ad he'd barely made a pittance that season.

He'd heard terrible thigns about Drykas taking woman to be their breeding slaves and forcing men to do their hard work for them. They sounded worse than the Syliran Knights. Now they were saying that the Knights were being unfair for keeping a closer eye on them? Then again it seemed silly to Shane that they would think the Drykas within the city were the same as any other member of their race. After all most of the Knights were human and none of them had ever hypnotised a toddler before. He had and he was humans too. In a way this was just like watching every human just in case they too decided to hypnotise a toddler. So, with the brashness of youth he wrote upon the petition “NO TWO PEOPLE ARE ALIKE SO DON'T BLAME EVERY DRYKAS FOR THE CRIMES OF OTHER DRYKAS – SHANE WALLSLY

As he walked away he rather wished that he could write legibly without doing it in capitals. Whoever read that petition was going to think a baby signed it...

The Nine (Drykas)

Postby Markus Andres on January 22nd, 2014, 10:11 am

Markus had felt the rage course through his veins at the atrocity the Drykas race had inflicted upon the knights. Struck them in their own backyard. Felt the anger at not having been down there stopping them from kidnapping Sylirans for their vile self-indulgent purposes. It was the feeling of being useless against the threat that frustrated Markus the most. So when he saw the petition he found an outlet that might vent some of the anger and frustration. Markus saw no other way than the Drykas in Syliras show their innocence. Some had written a long statements, someone had written exclusively in bold letters which irritated Markus and automatically diminished the worth of his words in his mind.

We were cowardly and treacherously attacked by the Drykas. Friends and family taken from us by force, either through slavery or death. This was a grave insult to everyone who calls Syliras their home, to the honour of the city itself and us knights. I want those responsible put to justice and those taken returned to us.

I wish for the Drykas residing in Syliras prove they had nothing to do with these vile attacks on our city. Prove they are innocent and denounce the actions of their kin. Prove they can be trusted. It is not unreasonable to expect them to be forthcoming in this regard considering what has transpired. But, and I believe this should go without saying, my Drykas brethren and sisters in the order are above any and all suspicion, they have time and time again proven themselves true to our proud city and our righteous cause, I trust my brothers and sisters in the sword implicitly.

The Nine (Drykas)

Kreig didn't know what to decide quite frankly, on one hand the Drykas had caused greif in their acts of kidnapping... children and women have been kidnapped and that struck Kreig's heart deeply, it made him not angry, but sad...even sadder for the Drykas living here as they probably had no hand in the kidnappings ' I hope' If they did, then those of them who had helped best leave the city else they cause further trouble for their kin.

His sister was quite angry at them, that much was certain as he read her words.

Kreig looked at the petition and sighed, he knew what must be done as he signed the petition and wrote these words;

"I've no knowledge of why the Drykas had taken and spilled the blood of friends and family. Such a thing is beyond what I know unless one of the Drykas cares to enlighten us and if the people are willing to listen. All I know is that the blame lie with those who have done the deed, the ones who caused the tragedy without any regret or without hesitation. In good concious I cannot blame the Drykas who currently live or do business in Syliras, there is no point in hating them and thus I will not treat them any differently.

I certainly will not accuse those in the order who are Drykas, even if they were simply squires like myself and not yet knights. They have chosen a life to protect people, they have given up their old homes for this and for that I feel they are better men and women than I and those who grew up in the order.

This does not mean I trust the Drykas, however, their innocence is something they need prove to the people and to the Order whilst unfair treatment to the Drykas should be below us and thus halted. I am but one man and this is but one signature, yet I hope the words it carried weight.

Shiress flung herself over the paper in a fit of rage. Grabbing for the quill, she composed herself with a deep breath and wrote:

No man should take another for a slave! No man deserves to be held in chains and forced to work to please another. It can not be accepted in any way and within any race. All Drykas within the city walls should willingly and openly renounce slavery in action as well as belief, lest be driven from the city! - Shiress

Spinning on her heel, she pressed the quill into the chest of the one waiting behind her and stomped away. "It's ridiculous, all of it!"

On the last day of Winter, Avikal and those who worked with him set out through the city in the cold of the evening to collect all of the petitions. It didn't take as long as they had thought, and as they found out some of the petitions had been ripped up and others used for disgusting means.

Once they returned to the office with the petitions that did make it through Avikal looked through them. It had been very close, only losing out by one vote, but that one vote counted a lot.

The Drykas was angered by this, the Knights were being unkind to his people and disrespecting their culture. However he was voiceless and if he couldn't get the people behind him what hope was left. Still, Avikal was a proud Drykas and he wouldn't let this go..not yet.
