That's the reference. ;) No Angels was not the first song they did that I heard, but it is one I greatly enjoy.

Frankly, I never expected to fill my scrapbook primarily with music videos (I must aspire to change this). However, here is some In This Moment to add onto the pile. I really enjoy this sound, too. <_< My taste is a bit eclectic. Just a bit.

There is actually a story behind where I was shown this one and the person who showed me it, but that will be a story for another time.

I know I said I would PM you, but I thought it might be easier to post this here. :) I got a bit carried away so I've got a beginning: what I will call a brief introduction to French/Spanish films (And I know there's loads of stuff I am going to think of later) and I will move on to other foreign films later. I've boldened once I personally find the more important ones, although they're all brilliant.

Spanish-language Directors/films
a) Pedro Almodovar - especially "Volver" and earlier stuff such as "Atame!"and "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" or "Entre Tinieblas". These films are stunning, but not for the faint-hearted. "Entre Tinieblas" or "Dark Habits" in English (which is a pun for "dark habits" worn by Nuns but also the "dark habits" the nuns display, such as being writers of erotic fiction, masochists, homicidal or heroin addicts)

b) Guillermo del Toro - Again, you have possibly already watched some of his films, but just to make it clear, "Pan's Labyrinth", "Julia's eyes", "The Orphanage" and "The Devil's Backbone". If you're anything like me, these are not films to watch just before bed.

d) Carlos Saura - La Caza (Very tense film exploring lasting effects of the Civil War) and, one of my personal favourites, "Cría Cuervos" - it has a great theme song and, even as a child, Ana Torrent is a class act.

e) Victor Erice - "El Espiritu de la Colmena" and "El sur"

f) Alejandro Jodorowsky - Try "El Topo" and "The Holy Mountain" - They are a little odd, much like the Almodovar, but surrealist rather than using vulgarity as a stylistic point.

g) Fernando Trueba - "Belle Epoque": Cute film that launched Penelope Cruz's career.

h) Alejandro Amenabar - "Mar Adentro" (I cried at this film and I don't usually cry at films. It's got some excellent comedy and Javier Bardem is excellent in the role of a tetraplegic) and "Abre los ojos"

I) Isabelle Coixet - "My life without me"

4 Franco era films (Spain)
a) Surcos - José Antonio Nieves Conde: Gritty portrayal of Urban migration.
b) Bienvenido Mister Marshall! - Luis Garcia Berlanga: Great example of how film-makers appeased the censors yet sort of criticised the regime.
c) Marcelino, Pan y Vino - Ladislao Vajda: This is also a slice of history. It was the most successful Franco-friendly film ever made in Spain.
d)Viridiana - Luis Bunuel: On the other end of the scale, watching this during Franco could get you sent to prison. Also an excellent film.

Other Spanish-speaking, as an afterthought:
a) The motorcycle diaries.
b) No (2012)
c) Maria full of Grace - about a pregnant drug mule = powerful stuff.
d) Bombón - it's about a dog. Not really my sort of film but I enjoyed it anyway.
e) Elefante Blanco (2012)
f) Y tu Mama tambien - Alfonso Cuaron

French Directors
a) Éric Rohmer (this is the director I specialise in) - His films tend to be a little more conversation-based/philosophical rather than with complex storylines or action sequences. Thus, try "Le Rayon Vert", "L'ami de mon amie" or "Pauline a la plage". I suggest trying one and, if you don't like it, then possibly avoiding the rest.

b) Claude Chabrol - "Nada" and "Que la bete meure" are my personal favourites, but also excellent are classics like "Le Boucher" and "Madame Bovary" or "Les Biches".

c) Francois Truffaut - "Jules et Jim" is the classic example of Truffaut imo, but "Les quatre cents coups" is probably his most famous and "Tirez sur le Pianiste" is very good.

d) Jacques Demy - Completely different style. All three of these films are musicals but perhaps not musicals in the way you're used to them. "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" has no non-sung dialogue whatsoever. "Les Demoiselles de Rochefort" and "Peau d'Ane" are also excellent.

e) Marcel Carné - "Hotel du Nord", "Les Enfants du Paradis" and "Le jour se leve" are his best and most famous. Les Enfants has been dubbed the French Gone with the Wind. The last film is about a man in an apartment waiting for the dawn to break, when he knows he will die, and showing the moments that lead up to this death.

f) Renoir - La Grande Illusion - dubbed "Cinematic Enemy No.1" by the Nazis, this is an excellent portrayal of class conflict as well as the first world war. Be warned, it can be heavy going for those not accustomed to Renoir. Also, La Regle du Jeu (though it's really quite dated)

g) If you're at all interested in understanding the French Psyche, I advice Louis de Funes films - he is the greatest comedic actor France has turned out and, in my opinion, simply the best comedic actor anywhere. Possible films include "Le Corniaud", "L'aile ou la cuisse", "Oscar" or "Le Gendarme de St Tropez" but, above all, "Les adventures de Rabbi Jacob" and "La Grande Vadrouille"

French - Modern
a) Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis - an excellent comedy.
b) Intouchables - another excellent comedy. Voted the cultural event of 2011 by the French people.
c) Amour - Stunning film my Haneke which rightfully won an Oscar and was nominated for four others.
d) La Vie en Rose - the biopic of Edith Piaf is heartbreaking and incredibly stylish. Also, Marion Cotillard's acting in this is wonderful. Again, you can absolutely see why she won the Oscar.
e) Amélie (a must see)

This makes me so happy, I can't even describe.

Thank you for sharing your list! :) I'm quite excited to get started on watching them, and maybe posting my thoughts about them in here once I'm done. I tend to form opinions swiftly, and give things a chance even if I may dislike similar things.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! For all your trouble, and for sharing especially.

What a coincidence, I got a few glimpses of Louis de Funes yesterday because his films were on TV... My parents seem to love him. I'm not sure what to think about those old films, but he was fun to watch.

Also, Amélie. Must see indeed! The soundtrack is beautiful too.

Sometimes, I get ridiculously frustrated by people.

I'm going to rant. This is a rant warning.
Edit: Also, vulgarity. I'm really sorry. I got impassioned. ><

There are people in this world who will not like you, and there are people in this world who will like you. I find it absolutely ridiculous when people take the fact someone dislikes them to such a level that they act out on it.

Like, HOLY SHIT.

I was in chat one day, and a person in there was whining (if you start talking about how someone dislikes you and how you find their reasons petty, you're probably whining) about how a well-known player, a moderator, disliked them because this person didn't like horses.

On top of that, they were saying that they had the temptation to play a character who killed horses in Cyphrus, just for it.

What the fuck? What the actual fuck? This has bothered me for the last few days and prompted this post, because I find it so ridiculous that someone takes the opinion of another player they've never met so seriously. No, it's alright to want to be liked. It's alright to want people to like you. It's alright to plot about being a horse killer.

It's not alright to do it for entirely selfish reasons.

IF SOMEONE DOES NOT LIKE YOU, ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU AREN'T THEIR TYPE AND MOVE ON.

Frankly, she probably dislikes you because you're really fucking petty, or there is an aspect of your personality that she's not responding to favourably. Don't dig yourself a ditch by being a bitch.

If someone's going to call you out for trying to cheat the system, for misleading new players, or for generally being a dickhead in private, acknowledge you've made a mistake, correct it, and move on. I really dislike those people who see the fact someone dislikes them personally as a reason to leave the site. I dislike the people who do shitty things and then get shitty responses and then decide to make more shitty decisions by whining about the shitty responses until they get called out on it. Then, they leave, and I salute their departure. We are better off with less shit.

I have a high horse, I really do, but I feel like I can manage mine. If your horse is too fucking tall for you, or you can't dismount your soapbox long enough to clear the shit out of your system, you probably need a really long break. People are going to dislike you for any number of things. Fuck, if someone dislikes you for not liking horses, prove that you're a good person to yourself and don't bother talking to them. Just let it go. You'll win some and you'll lose some. Is it really so damn hard to not make an ass of yourself?

Don't be a little shit and we won't make it a big shit.

Anna, out.
