You Were Everything

There are many types of love, from the spark between a pair of souls to the bond of parent and child, yet sometimes the greatest love stories are those that are forbidden. Sama’el and Denen, the characters featured in this month’s thread, are very dear to my heart. Denen has such a pure, unrequited love for Sam, yet their love can never be. They are bereft, broken, consumed by regrets and shades of the past. They are not good enough, even for each other. The writing in this thread is sublime, infusing it with a lyrical power that most of us can only dream of attaining. The world shrinks to the point where you believe it ends outside the flimsy canvas of the tent, which flaps with a profundity of emotion.

There is something poignant about this thread, for it is infinitely relatable. Many of us have survived a similar predicament. The love that we bear for others is often returned, though not in the form we desire. To be loved as a friend is painful. To cause a friend pain is just as troubling, yet we must remain true to ourselves. There is no way to deny our inner feelings. And yet, there are always moments where we falter, confused by our desire for more and the urge to flee. These are the moments that define us. They whisper of what could be, and what slips through our fingers. The need to be held, to become one with another person, is overwhelming, especially when your life is consumed by writhing shades. For a fragment of time, you can truly have everything you desire. Enjoy it, even if you wake with regrets, because nothing lasts forever.

Denen and Sama’el may not have a future together, but for one night, at least, they had each other. They are not merely figments of a keyboard. They evoke the sort of emotion that we do not see very often in role-play. They become real.

This is a perfect choice for featured thread. I came across it one day through random browsing, and was unexpectedly gripped. Two characters, whose story and struggles I had never encountered before that moment, completely grabbed me. Congratulations, Denen and Sam, on an incredible thread. I am now pledged to reading everything involving your characters.

I'm so glad this thread got featured. I remember raving to everyone about it after I graded it. The story really deeply impacted me, and stirred something I hadn't felt in a long time. It's such a beautiful tale.
