[OOC Thread] Welcome to the NaNoWriMo Forum!

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy roleplay forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

This forum contains all the NaNo threads from years gone past. Thus far we have only 2011 archived! But hopefully we'll have a ton more forthcoming as the years go by and NaNo's come and go.

Mizahar's NaNoWriMo!

Image

I know you guys are getting excited, so I'm going ahead and setting up a forum for all sorts of things you might want to do: Share tips, charts, set goals, etc. I'll sticky this thread, but feel free to use it as an OOC thread as well. Then I'm going to add a "Goals" thread so folks can start listing thier PC's goals like I've seen in several scrapbooks. I'm also going to post the Registration thread, but that will not be open until Midnight October 31st/Nov 1st PST time.. so it will be locked until then. No early starts or pre-written threads. It all must be done in November!

Good Luck Everyone!

One of my favorite parts of the NaNo forums, which I was wondering if we could have our own Mizas version, was the prompts forum. I get stuck often and even the silliest idea can start the flow of ideas and grow into a great big lake of ideas.

How does everyone feel about a prompts forum? I also think this will be a great time for me to bump this thread and let people get some use out of it...ok...mostly me. Still, should be fun right?

So I was thinking we needed some sort of Gold Star winner for NaNo this year.. a top word count. We could even have some honorable mentions in terms of categories like best fight scenes, etc. I definitely think the highest winner would work, but what do you guys think about some other honorable mention awards? Yes, no? Too much work? We could vote during december and announce the winners on Christmas or something. We could even throw in a 'most insane mod for grading all the nano threads in their region' award of some sort. Seodai's suggestion.

I believe that would be a great way to liven things up even more. I look at all the medals available for earning and see the categories that they fall under. Who knows, maybe NaNoWriMo Mizahar Style can be a new category. Though, how will threads be nominated? By the mods grading and then we put up threads for people to vote on the threads that we chose? (if that makes any sense at all)

12 hour shifts have started, and Im working 6-7 days a week mandatory overtime. My replies will be slow until I can adjust to this new groove.

Ok below are some awards I can think of.

NaNo Awards
Most words written Across characters: Awarded to the person who has the highest word count across all of the characters they play during November. Because I know some people are going for this across multiple characters.

Most Words per single character: Goes to the character with the highest singular word count for November

Best fight scene: Awarded to the character (Or characters) who have the best fight scene during November.

Best character development thread:
goes to the characters in the best written internal character development thread During November.

Best Dream Thread: Goes to characters in the most well written dream thread written for November.

Best Flashback thread: Goes to the characters in the best flashback thread written in November.

November Skillz: Goes to the character (characters) involved in the best skill development thread.

November Lore: Goes to the character who in a single thread accumulated the most lores in a single completed thread.

November Booty: Goes to the player who accumulated the most items in a single thread either bought or killed for.

I think the medals should either be more general or even more specified. I don't think this will work if we just do a random combination of both.

What I mean is this: I think it needs to be one of those two things. If they are all general, everyone can qualify for them. Example: Highest Word Count, Most threads completed, Most Posts, Most Skill points acquired etc... That way everyone who participated, no matter what their thread topics were, get a shot at winning something.

But on the other hand the medals for specific things are also a good idea, like Best Fight Scene, Weirdest Dream, Best Flashback etc.. Basically what I am thinking is something along the lines of the Wind Reach Thread Challenges.

This way, not only are there ideas for people to fall back on when they are running low on imagination, but there are specific things everyone needs to hit in order to qualify for a medal.

IE:

NaNoWriMo Miz Thread Challenge

*PC must complete one of the following to be eligible for the medal.

Dream Medal:
-Have a dream induced by drugs
-Have a dream induced by alcohol
-Have a dream that includes more than 3 people (aka not a solo thread)
-Have a dream that takes your PC out of this world

Fight Medal:
-Your PC breaks someones bones
-Your PC fights off someone way stronger than them
-Your PC starts a fight and then runs from it

Etc etc etc..

Obviously those are really, really bad examples. But if you have it set up like that, anyone that does any kind of thread including one of those things listed under that medal is eligible for it. That will also save us time in the future when we are discussing who is nominated for what.

It should also be the persons own responsibility to document these progressions.

Ideas? Thoughts? Confused?

So basically...

Winner: 50,000 words.
Top Word Winner: 50,000 words + Highest Word Count.
Thread Challenge: 50,000 words + all elements in a thread challenge list incorporated. :)
NaNo Survivor: Mod Who Grades at least 10 NaNo Threads.

Would that work? Three medals?

Perhaps an award for someone who completes it for more than one pc?

I know I want to try for more than one... since I am ever so sane.

I think giving multiple pcs nano medals is good enough for that one, Growl. I mean if we had such a medal think about it... which account do I stuff it on? All of yours? No way...
