I am literally sick of people not knowing what the word "literally" means.

lit·er·al/ˈlitərəl/
Adjective:
Taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or allegory.

It does not mean "actually" or "totally". It means that whatever you said is happening EXACTLY as you described it. "I literally laughed my ass off" means that you no longer have a behind and you should see a doctor.

Btw was totes joking. I'm not literally sick. I am metaphorically sick.

For reals though. It is not that hard. Don't come to me about this "artistic license" crap. It's a language, languages have words, words have meaning, and this one is not debatable. There is no ambiguity. The word "literally" has one meaning, and it is not meant to emphasize the truth of what you are saying. It is meant to inform the listener or reader that you are not using metaphor.
