Two words that I bet many people have used, but don't know exist (I personally only learned these semi-recently). Definitions from Dictionary.com. Just some bits of knowledge to anyone who's interested.

pique - often misspelled as "peak" or "peaked"
(verb, piqued, piqu·ing)

1.to affect with sharp irritation and resentment, especially by some wound to pride: She was greatly piqued when they refused her invitation.
2.to wound (the pride, vanity, etc.).
3.to excite (interest, curiosity, etc.): Her curiosity was piqued by the gossip.
4. to arouse an emotion or provoke to action: to pique someone to answer a challenge.

faze - often misspelled as "phased" or "unphased"
(verb, fazed, faz·ing, antonym: unfazed)

to cause to be disturbed or disconcerted; daunt: The worst insults cannot faze him.

I have a bad habit of misspelling faze. The letter 'z' in words is evil. PHASE LOOKS RIGHT. Strange that people don't know they exist, though.

That's because Americans are the ones putting "z" into all the words! Case example... realise. No, let's say realize. Hmmm...

Because its pronounced 'real-eyes' with a z-sound, not 'real-ice' with a sssss-sound!

And don't complain about us adding z's... You Brits are the ones putting extra u's all over the place where they don't need to be.

But, in the American-English vs British-English debate, Eddie Izzard (a British Transvestite comedian) said it best:

You say 'erbs', and we say 'herbs', because there's a fucking 'H' in it!

Oi Brits! Think you're so fancy with your pronunciation of "herb", always claiming, "there's an H in it!" What about the word "hour" eh? Eh?

Eyes is also said like there's a 'z' in it. I'm surprised you didn't realise that as you typed it.

Seriously Americans, stop confusing us up here. We don't know how to spell anything any more.

If we're going to talk about confusion in pronunciation and spelling, then I'm calling you all out on this one. Over here, we pronounce things as they're spelled, we don't have a thousand different ways to pronounce... let's say, 'a'.

(And we don't pronounce eyes with a 'z'... I didn't even know this until I read this thread, hahah!)
