Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

40th Day of Winter, 510 AV

The crew of the Shimmering Dawn were thoroughly unimpressed by the wondrous sight of Riverfall. Then again, most of them had been working the trade route from Ahnatep to Syliras for long and long again - it was the harshest route, the longest, and as such would generally only attract those sailors who could stand to be away from post for seasons at a time. Not to mention those who could keep a ship together even through some of the most dangerous shoals in Mizahar.

One of the crew, however, let the rope he was coiling fall slack as he glanced up at the cliffs and then stopped to stare longer. Not a sailor, this one, not by any natural inclination. But when a man had to get from one side of the world to the other, he tended to do what needed to be done to get there. By all rights he shouldn't have been allowed on the crew, so little did he know of sailing itself, but there was talk that the Captain had bet the passage in a game of cards, more because he knew he couldn't lose than because he was willing to let a stranger with little experience on his boat. But lose he did, and he was honorable enough to keep his word - even if it meant that his newest crewmember was stuck doing the worst sorts of duties.

A season and a half of emptying bilge buckets, setting rat traps, scrubbing floors, and any other menial, skill-less job they could find had left Murdoch Kin'rath about as dead inside as any slave's galley would have. He went through the motions every day, and every day he retreated a little further back into himself, until the crew whispered quietly to themselves that it might as well have been a golem hauling ropes around for them.

His hands and face were burned brown from the constant beating of the sun, and his skin was wind-chapped from exposure to the elements. He was still a handsome man, but more rugged now than he'd been when he simply dandied around the streets and gambling halls of Syliras. He sported a shaggy beard that was more protection against the chill bite of the wind than any attempt at hygiene or grooming, and his hair fell to his shoulders in brown-and-sun-streaked waves.

He watched as the ship pulled into the docks, staring at the shore like a thirsty man stares at a mirage in the desert. Riverfall - he'd heard it mentioned many times in Syliras. They weren't that far. He was almost home. He could stay on the ship another half-season, maybe a little longer, and look upon the shining walls of the human city again.

"Petch that," he mumbled to himself, kicking the rope aside and sprinting for the gangplank. The other crew members startled a little to see him so suddenly animated - and for the first time since they'd pulled anchor, he grinned.

"Thanks for the ride, kids," he yelled, hauling ass down to the docks and leaving the whole lot of them behind. It wasn't as if he had any belongings other than the clothes on his back, the weapons in his pockets, and the gold he still carried from Sunberth.

Within a few minutes, he disappeared into the crowd. When he was finally confronted by an Akalak guard, he stopped full-tilt and stared up at him. "Damn. Big fellow, ain't you? Look, I need an inn. Preferably something with a whole shyke-ton of booze in it." The Akalak grinned, and gave him directions to the Kulkukan, and Doc promptly took off in that direction.

The merchant ship - despite the weeks aboard it, the name escaped her now - docked at Riverfall port as the sun was nearing the western horizon. Standing on deck, but increasingly wary of the sailors carrying heavy goods on and off the boat and the likelihood of getting shoved out of the way, Nenai hurriedly removed her shoes, shoved them in her pack and climbed the ships mast. Even those that hadn't traveled with her since Kalinor were used to the Symenestra's skittish climbing after the lengthy sea travel, and paid the lithe girl no mind. She stopped once she was about seven feet up the mast, the microscopic hooks extended from the palms of her hands and soles of her feet keeping her securely in place.

The waterfall, which a crew member had informed her earlier flowed from Bluevein River, rushing to meet the Suvan sea created a constant misty spray, which had left Nenai's hair, skin and shell armor coated with a layer of salty moisture. She mused that it would be more pleasant in the Summer, when the chilled ocean winds of an approaching Spring night weren't frantically trying to freeze her to the bone.

Once the foot traffic on deck slowed, Nenai carefully descended the mast and replaced her shoes. One of the merchants that had traveled with her since Kalinor paused in his preparations and asked if she would need assistance finding her way around Riverfall. A kind gesture, which she declined with a shake of her head, a close-lipped smile and a "Thank you" in Common.

Stepping off of the ship and onto the docks, Nenai was almost immediately intercepted by an Akalak, who had been watched the ship and keeping tabs on the goods going on and off. "Hello there, can I help you with anything?" He offered in Common, much to her relief. Despite all of the shipmates reassurances that all of the Akalak spoke Common and did not rely entirely on Tukant, she hadn't been able to completely believe that they weren't going to leave her amongst speakers of a language she was poorly practiced at.

This relief did not, however, make the Akalak's height and muscle mass any less intimidating, and Nenai stammered a quick "ThankyounothankyouI'mfine!" in Common before spinning on her heels and fleeing towards the city.

The Akalak, puzzled by the stranger but assured by her akwardness that she (probably) wasn't a threat, shrugged and returned to his business.

I'm finally here. After 6 hours of swimming, he had finally found the city he was looking for. Though he was hoping he could find a teacher to learn from in the city, he was really here to buy supplies, it being the closest welcoming city to Akvatari Isle he could find. He was hoping that they had a Bazaar or something open so that he could get food. Perhaps he could also get some work here while he was at it. But first he had to rest. He ate some of the last of his food, deployed his tent and bedroll, and collapsed. Finally, he could rest.

Season of the Summer, Day 24, 511 AV

The Charoda surfaced from the water in the early morning, when the fog still hung heavy at the base of the Akalakian city and obscured her sight of everything but the ripples around her. Candira knew water; it was uninteresting compared to the rumors of the grand city, hovering tauntingly behind the mist. She waited with baited breath, anxious for the sun to rise and vanquish the natural obstruction. Slowly, slowly, Riverfall emerged.

The city rose proudly from the ground, dominating the cliff face with beauty and power. Candira, her slick head barely floating above the water, stared in awe at the sight. Even the river, rushing down in a stream of blue, was mesmerizing. Trance-like, she flipped her feet and glided forward through the calm bay. The few ships that dotted the port were anchored, frozen with the fog and promise of a ruined ship against the rocks, and she gave them no mind. Her only goal was to arrive safely.

Candira pulled herself ashore, scampering onto a small slip of sand and up the dockside. She watched the morning hubbub unravel, eyes wide with marvell. Men were beginning to work, all colors of blue and green and all sizes of muscle. The woman hugged her dripping cloak closer to her body, pinching it closed in front with webbed fingers.

A man approached her, clipboard in hand and she smiled. "Hello there," he said, thankfully in Common. "Can I help you with anything?"

Candira shook her head. "Just a visitor," she said. He mentioned a few places of interest, and she thanked him before entering the city.

Lucius came closer to the city, and the closer he got, the more beatiful the city seemed to be.
Sadly, it was no Alvadas, but that was ofcourse his personal opinion.

When they finally docked, Lucius was the first one to get off the boat.
He had been lucky that the trade ship was willing to take him with them.

he waved goodbye to the captain and the crew that he had entertained during the trip, and took his first steps into the city of riverfalls.

This was Lucius first time outside Alvadas. He gazed at everything he could lay his eyes upon.
Everything seemed so..new and interesting.
Then suddenly a friendly voice was heard from behind him.

"What's your business in Riverfalls, stranger?"

Lucius turned around to find an old, ragged man sitting on a barrel.
He smiled and replied:

"Oh, what is my business, you ask? Why does a stranger have to have business in order to travel to faraway regions that he have never seen or experienced before? My business my friend, is that of learning and experience, nothing more and nothing less."

The old man said nothing, He simply looked at Lucius and nodded to him to proceed.
The old man was ofcourse curious why a man with such an exotic and outright strange outfit was visiting their city, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to know.

Lucius smiled at the old man, turned around and kept walking.
He had finally reached his destination. His travels and adventures had finally begun.

Postby Kerehi Ymasu on August 28th, 2011, 9:39 pm

53 of Spring, 509 AV

Memories still fresh in Kerehi's mind played over and over again as she neared the docks of the city of Riverfall.

The soft currents of the ocean played with the sea weed sending it waving back and forth. Kerehi looked around at her home on the bottom of the sea. The magnificent coral of her beautiful city, her loving family and the great halls of art and performers all of this spoke of reasons for her to stay. Her heart ached at the thought of leaving her family but her mind could not help but wonder what more would be out there. Beyond these coral halls of Charbosi and the savage tribal lands of the Falyndar coast, she wondered what wonders lay beyond it all in the world of the land dwellers.

The memory faded as another turbulent wave threw the young Charoda back as she attempted to near the surface again. Kerehi splayed her webbed fingers and pulled herself to the surface again fighting against the waves. In hindsight entering the city near the waterfall may not have been the best idea.

Nearing the edge of the dock she pulled herself up climbing the supports for the pier and thrusting one webbed hand over the edge of the dock. The bustle of people could be heard up above and it made Kerehi smile. She would be meeting her first humans in a few short breaths. She folded her gills flat against her body and pulled in a lung full of air. The dryness of the sea breeze caused her to cough at the foreign feeling in her body.

The fit passed and Kerehi was able to focus her eyes, standing straight she smiled and extended her hand to the first person she saw. Her smile wavered and started to wilt. The man in front of her had a strong serious face and had skin the color of the rolling deep ocean itself. She had heard stories of the humans on land but never once had the stories mentioned that they were blue...or over 7 feet tall.

Hello there, can I help you with anything?

His deep voice rumbled through her, a hard voice of a warrior. Kerehi cleared her throat and returned his common with her own. My name is Kerehi...might you please point me towards the inn good sir? She made sure to be as polite as possible. All her years of school would hopefully pay off if she could make a good impression here.

Postby Daevin Calyso on September 3rd, 2011, 5:51 pm

3rd day of Fall, 209 AV

Daevin could feel his stomach roil as he set foot on the dock, walking on sold ground for the first time in months. That, combined with the gravity of what he was doing, left his skin blanched as he strode out onto the planks of the docking area. The bustle of the trade stretched out before him, the cities blue skinned natives hard at work transporting goods.

More than a few gave him a sidelong glance as he began to make his way towards the city, and once again Daevin found himself cursing his lineage. The long, wadded tufts of hair that flowed down past his shoulders still held the grit of the sea, and the clear, piercing blue eyes denoted him as a Svera. And to mainlanders, Svera were pirates.

The young Svera would argue that not all of his kind were criminals. He could not, however, make a legitimate point for his own case. Daevin had served in one pirate crew or another from an early age.

A voice rang clear above the din of the crowd, and the young pirate winced as one of the blue men strode forward. Daevin acknowledged the greeting with a nod, but said nothing.

"Hello there, can I help you with anything?" said the man.

It was hard for the young Svera to keep a frown from spreading across his face; he may have spent his life at sea, but he was no fool. This man was an observer, watching who and what came into the city. Daevin was exactly the type they wouldn't relish having as a visitor.

"I've come for the trade, sir, and to see the sights of the city."

The man nodded stiffly. "Welcome to Riverfall, friend."

Daevin nodded in return and moved forward towards the city, all the while feeling a pair of prying eyes on his back.

Cassidy swiftly secured the Tide Herald to the docks. She stepped up on it's railings to survey the docks as best she could from her short vantage, she had to look for several minutes through the busy crowd to locate the dockmaster's office. As soon as it was located, she jumped down onto the docks and became as much a part of the crowd as a Svefra woman could be in a city full of blue men. Her freshly shined but clearly well-worn boots cramped her feet uncomfortably though she tried to walk naturally her gait was a little stiff; she rarely wore shoes at sea.

Making her way through the crowd she stopped when the Akalak addressed her, "Yes, could you point to where I can pay my docking fee?" The man gestured and Cassidy moved on. She thank him and moved on in the direction he'd indicated, no time for idle chit-chat she was here to do business. The first order of business was paying her docking fees and letting it be known the Tide Herald would be taking on passangers.

Erik was busy tying down his own ship, to a chorus of squawks from his tavan Squall. He was once again in his own world to interested in one thing to notice anything else going on around him. After finishing it and settling Squall he slid over the railing onto the dock. With the ship tied down and Squall once more asleep in a pile of ropes, Erik glanced around the dock, looking for Cassidy. Spotting her he quickly fell in line behind her, following her path to the dock master’s office.

It was strange to be on land again, and amongst a crowd. Even though he would of loved to stop and look around Cassidy was being her normal self, putting business before everything else. With a sigh he kept pace with her, already dreading having to pay to dock and the coming work that would surely follow.

57 of Fall 511 AV

The large trade ship docked quickly and efficently at the port in riverfall, the sight as the sailors navigated through the rocky sea below the large cliff side holding the city was still sharp in Sabe's mind. The beautiful waterfall that streamed down the cliff and the slight fog over the surface of the sea was a breathtaking sight and unfourtunatly quickly gone as the ship made it into port. Eira whined quietly, pressing her muzzle to Sabe's leg, the Imperial Watcher, despite loving water the dog greatly disliked being on a ship in starc contrast to Sabe."I know, we'll get of soon," the Konti murmered quietly, her words meant only for Eira. Stepping off the ship stumbling a bit as her body adjusted to solid ground again Sabe looked wide eyed at the busy harbor, in all her life she had only known Mura and it was so different from Riverfall, not only because of the majority of the people were tall, muscular Akalaks. Sabe rested a hand on Eira's back for courage as she navigated carefully to avoid being in the way for the workers. She was stopped by an Akalak asking her what he could do to help. "I would like to know the way to the Sanctuary please." Taking note on his directions Sabe nodded in thanks and started heading up the tiers to reach to top most plane of Riverfall.
