Rayage considered the situation they were forced into as he looked up at the pillar of billowing smoke indicating a fire was nearby. Nothing was quite as perplexing as this. He glared at Evalin as she mentioned the elevator, it was an honest mistake, and as he pointed out before it was better him than her. If her Djed had gotten sapped then she would have been less than useless, only to have those oafs that she calls Diverse follow and guard her wherever she may go. ”I do remember the elevator.” he said, ”You bring up such fond times.” he said, ”Perhaps the child should learn when to bring up the past and when to lay things to rest.” he told her sternly. Nothing was more aggravating right now than that womans voice.
”You are right, Elianos.” he said, ”Caution would be advisable, but we can only go so slow.” he said, ”If we go too slow we will be wasting time.” he said, a concept that the nuit was not fond of at all. Time was a precious thing, and those who would waste it deserve not the air they breathe. Treasure it, for as all nuits know, time passes by way too fast. It seemed only yesterday when his world was turned upside down by the valterrian. He could remember that day in perfect clarity, where he was, and what he was doing… Shaking the memories from him with a nod of his head, ”We go onwards, but be on your guard.” he advised turning to the forest. ”Let us not waste any more time here, but, Evalin,” he singled her out, ”Let us not waste power just because we have it.” he said with a small but mocking laugh.
Though he told them that they should move on, he patiently waited for Elianos to finish his spell. The man had magic that he could only dream of having, and it would be advisable to listen to what he had to say. Though Ray knew by the look Elianos was casting, he didn’t know exactly what he was doing. The nuit had not yet graced him with knowledge of the power he holds. He didn’t expect he would. The man before him had his own way of doing things, and as long as his way of doing things didn’t lead to any direct harm to himself, then Ray was fine with letting Elianos do what he pleases. If it didn’t concern himself, what did he care?
With whatever information Eianos wished to report shared, Ray would lead the way into the forest, or at least be the first one to step into it. Following the smokes path was much harder to do under the cover of the forest, but every now and then Ray would get a glimpse of it from spacing between the trees. His eyes were turned skyward, but his other senses were trying to analize the surroundings making sure there was no threats. Now, he knew that one of his companions was much better at that than he was, but it did not keep him from trying. He didn’t need any harm to come to the body he inhabits. For as he traveled doubt started to attack his mind. It was a strange thing, he never doubted himself, but this time it hit him like a storm. Evalin bringing up the elevator, and Elianos’ words of warning echoed in his mind. The fire… it was too convenient. Was he leading them all to their deaths?
He laughed at such thoughts and shook them away, batting them off with a mental stick. How could he have a lapse in judgment?! He was an immortal, proud and forever. He knew more than most mortals ever would in five life times. He was wise, and old, not only that but accomplished in the art of his choice. There was no way… No. Fate conspired against them at every turn. If he was wrong, then it wasn’t his fault, but Fates. Fate ruins everything. His words brought him comfort and soon he calmed himself down, and just in time too.
It had been but a half bells walk and the fire would come into sight. Stepping into a small clearing Ray looked at the fire, and then looked around… No one was here, well at first glance. Then a person came into his field of vision, and he called out to her. Ray was assuming it was a girl because her back was turned showing them only hair of silver, ”You, woman.” he called out to her, ”Were you the one who started the fire?” he asked expecting an answer. It really wasn’t Rays style to just call out someone like this, but he has had a very rough day so far and he felt that they needed answers.
Being so caught up in his questioning of the mystery person, Ray hardly noticed the ruins that lay before her.
